This restaurant is highly recommended. Even the soup was delicious.

The food was very tasty, but the portions were a bit small.

We ordered food, one serving of veggie korma and one serving of palak paneer, and I have to say, the food wasn't particularly good. I'm half Indian, and unfortunately, for me, the food didn't really have anything to do with Indian food. It was quite salty but otherwise bland in flavor. Delivery was quick, and the rice was good. I hate giving bad reviews, but I'll try to be constructive.

Spontan hier vorbeigekommen, da es gut besucht war. Ich wurde nett begrüßt und hatte einen schönen Platz draußen auf dem Freisitz, wo man auch schön das rege Treiben auf der Straße beobachten konnte. Ich hatte ganz klassisch das Butter Murg und dazu ein Knoblauch Naan, beides war hervorragend. Kann ich nur empfehlen

We ordered food at 4:30pm for 7pm. The food still hadn't been delivered at 7:30 p.m. If the restaurant can't deliver food on time with 2.5 hours notice, then they shouldn't offer deliveries. Sorry, but that doesn't work at all. The naan is not good, it seems like ready-made food. There are no herbs (cilantro, ginger) to be seen or felt in the sauce. I ate Indian food in Dresden a week ago and it was worlds better. The naan there was fluffy, the sauces were much tastier. Sorry - we won't be stopping here at Safran. Quality and price don't match. We've been to India too, so we know what it might taste like.

The food was okay. There could have been more sauce instead of rice and the sauce could have been warmer. Otherwise the service was very nice and we received our food quickly :) Lots of choice for vegetarians!

Meine Rezensionen in Google Maps wurden (wer weißt von wem) jedes Mal als Diffamierung gemeldet, was natürlich absolut Quatsch ohne keinerlei rechtliche Basis ist. Scheinbar kann jemand mit negativen Bewertungen nicht klar kommen 😂 Deswegen, disclaimer: ALLES was ich hier schreibe sind nur subjektive Meinungsäußerungen, die NICHT auf unwahren Tatsachen beruhen. Nichts von dem was ich hier sage soll als Tatsachenbehauptung verstanden werden. Diese Rezension hat zwei Ziele: 1. dem Restaurant mit konstruktiven Feedback zu helfen, seine Dienste zu verbessern. 2. zur Vielfalt an Meinungen und Erfahrungen zu beitragen, um anderen Kunden zu helfen, weil ein Rezensionssystem erst dann bei Geschmackssachen hilfreich sein kann, wenn viele unterschiedliche Meinungen vertreten sind. Meine ehrliche Rezension: Ich liebe indisches Essen. Ich habe mehrere Jahren in verschiedenen Orten im Süden und Norden von Indien gelebt, als ich dort Yoga gelernt habe. Und in 30 Jahren nomadisches Lebens habe ich sehr viele indische Restaurants überall auf der Welt ausprobiert. Ich habe mehrmals hier bestellt, nur weil sie die einzige in Leipzig sind, die Lammachse haben. Im Vergleich zu MEINEN anderen Erfahrungen mit indischem Essen, schmeckten MIR alle Gerichte bei Safran sehr gleich zu einander, und sehr fad. MEINEM Geschmack nach waren die Saucen zu süß und zu wässrig. Das Personal EMPFAND ICH sowohl vor Ort wie auch telefonisch als zwar formell höflich aber eher abwesend/kalt, und ICH hatte das GEFÜHL, dass sie auch einfachen Bitten (wie zB "Ich hätte dieses Gericht gerne mit Lammachse statt gehacktem Lamm") ungerne nachgegangen sind. Fazit: Alles im Leben ist relativ, und andere Leuten werden andere Meinungen haben. Am besten soll man verschiedene Orten ausprobieren, und sich eine persönliche Meinung damit machen, welche man am besten vermeiden soll! Ich bestelle lieber woanders. Irgendwoanders 😉

Favorite Indian in town! Every time I am impressed by the food, the charm and the service. Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. There is an endless selection of classic food & drinks! A mango lassi rounds everything off. A true recommendation from the heart.

Abomination in the name of Indian food. The Biryani had cauliflower and peas in it along with chicken? No chicken biryani has these vegetables in it. The curries and soup had the same base. Raita is supposed to be majorly yoghurt with some vegetables soaked in it. Here it was a salad which Indians don't even eat like salad leaves. The butter chicken here is made from chicken breast piece which is just straight up wrong. Butter chicken should be cooked with bone-in tandoori leg and thigh pieces. Most places in India don't even give an option of boneless chicken. If there is then it's mostly judged for kids and even then it has thighs cause they're juicier pieces of chicken.

They saved our behinds today, New Year's Eve 2024. AND they gave us LOADS of paneer, AND my Jalfrezi is legit spicy, which I love! Normally it's impossible to get a proper spicy sauce, this one made me hiccup a couple times. LOVE IT! Delivery was also slightly faster than they estimated, that was cool.

We order here regularly and SAFRAN has always prepared impeccable food. The vegetarian offering is particularly impressive. The restaurant is small in size, but cozy. In summer you can sit outside. All employees are courteous and guest-oriented. Team Safran: You are the best.🙂

We were there for the second time yesterday: The food came quickly and was once again very good. The service was just as friendly and attentive as on our first (random) visit three or four weeks ago. Overall, the prices are reasonable by Leipzig standards.

The delivery person drives far too fast in the city and does not maintain the minimum distance from cyclists. This store is endangering lives! I don't eat here anymore on principle.

The food was an absolute dream. Special requests were taken into account. We would love to come back to Leipzig from Munich. We also talked to the owner for a long time. Really great restaurant!

Es gibt eine sehr große Auswahl an indischen Essen. Das Essen war sehr lecker, wurde heiß serviert. Die Angaben bezüglich der Schärfe auf der Karte stimmten überein. Ein besonderes kulinarisches Highlight ist das Essen im Tannendorigrill ,optisch so wie geschmacklich ein besonderes Highlight.

The Safran has been an Indian restaurant with consistently solid quality for years. There are restaurants that are comparable in price and have a slightly better taste. But in principle you can recommend the restaurant on Karli. The menu also offers a large selection of vegetarian dishes. The interior is a bit thrown together and a little worn out. The service staff is very friendly and attentive.

We had actually decided on another restaurant, but fate brought us to this restaurant. Like many, it is located on the street and is (almost) barrier-free in the basement. There is a small step to overcome at the entrance. If you ask nicely, you will get help. The furnishings are harmonious, but seem a bit old, but that's not a disadvantage, it adds to the atmosphere. The staff is friendly, helpful and tries very hard to fulfill the guests' wishes. The menu is extensive. There is something for everybody. The range is very broad. There are many things on the menu that we haven't seen in Indian restaurants before. We chose for - CHANNA PANEER (homemade Indian cream cheese with original Indian chickpeas, Indian spices and herbs in curry sauce) - MURG KORMA (juicy chicken breast fillet, grated homemade cream cheese, almonds, cashew paste, apple pieces and raisins fried in a creamy cream sauce) decided. We also used basmati rice. Other side dishes are also possible. For drinks we had an Indian red wine and a mango lassie. Let me say straight away that Indian cuisine is very, very diverse. Often 10 kilometers is enough and you have a different orientation. The use of spices and ingredients can produce different results with the same name for the food. The food was excellent and hit the spot. Nothing was left to be desired.

I can't understand why there are good ratings and reviews here. A friend of mine and I were there yesterday. We chose the restaurant because of the good rating of 4.5. The food was terrible. It just didn't taste like anything. I don't think I've ever eaten such bad Indian food in my life. And super exaggeratedly EXPENSIVE! So we were absolutely disappointed. The people who gave it good reviews here really have no idea about Indian cuisine! Hopefully someone left my comment and doesn't go there.

Not a good Indian restaurant. The tandoori chicken was very dry and tough, the dishes had surprisingly little taste... the only thing that was ok was the mango lassie.

We have eaten and ordered here several times. Food is absolutely delicious. Service is quick, extremely friendly and helpful. I've already tried a few paneer dishes. It's always a matter of taste but most of them tasted above average to me. The ambience in the restaurant still has potential - but is still cozy.

Die Bedienung ist äußerst höflich, obwohl der mir zugeteilte Kellner weder Deutsch noch Englisch sprach. Das Paneer war ziemlich labrig. Der bestellte grüne Salat mit Huhn und indischem Dressing war Eisbergsalat mit einer halben Dose Mais und Küchenjoghurt. Ich bekam nach einer Beschwerde nur Eisbergsalat mit ein paar Streifen Paprika, aber kein Huhn. Nach einer nochmaligen Beschwerde brachte man mir einen kleinen Teller aufgewärmtes Hühnerformfleisch. Es war widerlich. Das Dressing war noch immer Küchenjogurth. Besonders gut war das Safran noch nie, aber jetzt kann man es echt nicht mehr empfehlen.

Wir haben online 3 Gerichte bestellt. Alle sahen gleich aus und schmeckten auch fast gleich. Vor allem aber schmeckten alle fad und lieblos. Wir werden nicht wieder bestellen. Es ist schade, denn die Qualität war vor Jahren deutlich besser.

Oh wow, where to begin...? My husband placed an order. After an hour he called to ask its status and when they couldn't understand the address, they hung up. My husband called several times, but no answer. Eventually they did answer and he was informed the food just left the restaurant. So finally, after almost 2 hours, we got our order. The food itself was not very good. Naan was awful, rice had no flavour, but mango lassi was excellent! This is the very first time I didn't finish my naan. Over all, over 30€ spent on a dissapointing meal. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

Best Indian restaurant in Leipzig

The mango cream was stale and bad in taste. Needs to look at the quality. And who puts carrot , beans, cucumber, and cauliflower flower in mutton biryani? Add some taste and quantity instead of adding gemuse packet in rice. Most pathetic food i have ever eaten.

Awful food. Stale bread might taste better thn their biryani. Such a shame fooling people in name of Indian food with just colors and tasteless stuff.

Very tasty food, lots of vegetarian and vegan options, fair prices, I particularly liked the spicy food. The delivery service was also great today and arrived very quickly. 40 minutes delivery time to Stötteritz, that's really very fast. (on a Tuesday) Indian ambience on the Karli... well, it's ok, there's still something going on. To cut a long story short – you can actually make saffron! Picking up food or having it delivered is completely possible!

The food was good, although I've had better Indian food in various places so far. The service is excellent and, in my opinion, cannot be improved. The pan flute music, however, is unbearable! It is tuneless and urges you to leave early, despite the otherwise harmonious ambience.

Ich war bereits mehrfach im Safran zu Gast. Habe verschiedene Speisen der Karte gegessen und war immer sehr zufrieden. Als Vorspeise habe ich immer eine der Suppen gegessen, die allesamt klasse sind. Sowohl bei den Suppen als auch bei den Hauptspeisen werden gute Zutaten verwendet, es wird sehr angemessen gewürzt und die Qualität war stets gleichbleibend hoch. Die Bedienung absolut freundlich und zuvorkommend, je öfter ich dort war, hat es sich immer besser entwickelt. Zusammenfassend ist es für mich das perfekte Indische Restaurant in Leipzig, weil genau passend. Nicht zu fein und abgehoben und keine Abzocke. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Schlechter Service, wenig freundlich und starke Verständigungsprobleme. Häufig schon das falsche essen serviert bekommen, obwohl ich klar und deutlich die Speise und Nummer, sogar mir Wiederholung bestellt habe und trotzdem kommt das falsche essen xD

Kleine Portionen, wenig Geschmack und das Gemüse ist schmeckbar TK. Sehr schade.

Super leckeres indisches Essen. Mein Favorit ist das Murgh Vindaloo. Sollte jeder probieren, der scharfes leckeres Essen mag.

Mein erster Besuch in einem indischen Restaurant und ich muss sagen mega. Das Restaurant besticht durch seine gute Deko und die Flächendeckende Wandteppiche. Die netten Servicekräfte sind auf Zack und immer unterwegs. Jedoch vergaßen sie im Moment des herbei kommenden Gewitters die Gäste im Lokal und so entstand etwas Wartezeit. Alles in allem aber guter bis sehr guter Service. Das Essen war sehr lecker und ich werde gerne wieder kommen, sollte ich mal wieder in der Gegend sein. Das Paneer mit Reis und das Naan Brot mit Knoblauch war super lecker! War nicht mein letzter Besuch in einem indischen Restaurant.

Wir sind große Fans der indischen Küche und besuchen deswegen gerne das Lokal. Vor allem das Cheese-Naan können wir empfehlen, aber auch die vegetarischen Gerichte überzeugen uns sehr. Das Personal ist immer freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Einige gekennzeichnete vegetarische und vegane Gerichte, allgemein eine große Auswahl Der Service war freundlich, man kann drin und draußen sitzen, sowie auch zum Mitnehmen

Sehr sehr lecker! Eine große Auswahl an vielen tollen indischen Speisen. Sehr zu empfehlen sind das Ballonbrot und die Dips. Man kann draußen und drinnen verzehren. Aufgepasst, im Innenbereich riecht es sehr stark nach Essen und bleibt an der Kleidung haften. Wir kommen trotzdem immer wieder gern her.

Sehr gutes Restaurant, sehr nette Inhaber... wenn das Restaurant ausgebucht ist, kann es schonmal etwas länger dauern, aber jedenfalls nie zu lange- dafür ist es dann frisch und heiss. Das Essen ist generell sehr gut und preislich ist es auf die Größe zugeschnitten. Wir können es nur empfehlen...

Murg Vindaloo. Murg Karachi. Aloo Palak. 0.3+0.5 bier. Rekening 43.5€. ROLSTOELTOEGANKELIJK. Veel volk. Vlotte en vriendelijke bediening. Ik vroeg specifiek naar een ‘hot’ Vindaloo. Ze zouden het op z’n ‘Indian’ klaarmaken. Ik heb al 17 keer in India rondgereisd. Altijd Low Budget. En heb altijd ofwel streetfood of ‘very local’ gegeten. Ik weet dus hoe Indian food smaakt. De Vindaloo hier was bloedrood van de kleurstof en de beloofde ‘red heat’ was nergens te proeven. De Murg en de Aloo smaakten vlak, Effen, Zonder body. Alleen de komijn was (jammer) dominant aanwezig. Neen..er is geen enkele keuken beter dan de Indische. Maar hier werd slechts een matige ‘verwesterde’ brave versie geserveerd.
