The restaurant isn't just about its beautiful outdoor area, which offers plenty of shelter even in the rain. The real treasures lie within the building, with its vaulted cellar and historic fireplace. The entire interior, including the dining room, is stylistically in keeping with the former monastery. We can only say the very best about the food on offer. We would describe it as fine dining with an excellent wine selection. In short, we would award the restaurant a star.

The restaurant is highly recommended. We were there with several people one weekend evening. We sat in a cozy, sheltered, covered courtyard. From the appetizers to the main course and dessert, everything was very good and super fresh. Many thanks also to the really friendly service.

I didn't feel particularly comfortable there; the service was below average, and I had to wait quite a long time for my food. The food was okay to average.

We ate here for the first time yesterday and were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The service was very attentive and friendly, and our pasta was delicious. We'll definitely be back.

It still exists: authentic, old-school pizza! What a delight for the senses. Not just from a wood-fired oven, but also with beechwood and a perfectly calibrated rotation. I would have loved to sit in front of the oven all evening, but there's the bar in between, and besides, my spot in the courtyard was so cozy. Mmm: crispy, juicy, not too oily. Pizza at its best. The best pizza in Mainz, I'd say the best pizza in southern Germany. Oh, honestly, it wasn't any better in Bologna either. Keep it up!

I have eaten here at least a dozen times. Tonight was quite dreadful (first time). I asked for a table inside and was told it was full. Upon finishing my short mealon the terrace, I found the dining table nearly empty. Service was broken: I only ordered 2 dishes and wine , 4 different wait staff looked after me but none smiled. The beef in my carpaccio smelled a bit off but was still tasty( all previous times, it was wow) my carbonara tasted burned. The usual crusty Italian loaf was substituted by a strange eggy bread devoid of crunch. Overall very disappointing. I may never return and definitely stop recommending this beloved food spot(past tense).

You sit outside in a back courtyard, which is okay. The chairs are unfortunately uncomfortable, and I wasn't the only one who needed to stretch my legs, otherwise we would have ended up in need of care. My calzone was okay, but I've had better. The regular pizza has a great crust, but the pasta dishes are too small. My daughter doesn't eat huge amounts, but she was still hungry afterwards, and I also thought they looked small. The waiter sometimes didn't let you finish your sentence and didn't even ask some of the people at the table what they wanted while he played with his pen. If someone waved from another table, they just rolled their eyes and walked away. I don't know why this place is so hyped, but I've had much better and friendlier meals there. I can't say anything about the seats inside, unfortunately. The restrooms are clean.

I've been to Ristorante alCortile several times and have always felt completely at home. The service is extremely friendly and attentive – even the owner is enthusiastic about helping out. The pizza is excellent, but the sometimes changing specialties are also highly recommended. Whether on the terrace or in the stylish interior, especially in the cozy "cellar": the atmosphere invites you to enjoy and linger. I'd be happy to return again and again!

Yesterday we drove to Mainz especially for this restaurant. This restaurant used to be excellent, but what we experienced yesterday was a disaster. We arrived and wanted to order a salad. They said there was no salad because the delivery hadn't arrived. OK, understandable. It was strange that 10 minutes later the person at the next table got a salad. When we asked, we were told there was a problem in the kitchen and that they couldn't make the salad for fear of spam. So two different answers. The service left a lot to be desired. We ordered extra quickly because of the children. Everyone else got their food before us. Normally they at least bring you bread. Then we asked for bread and another waiter came straight away and asked what was wrong. Then the food finally arrived. They could have saved themselves the bread. You pay so much money and then they don't even apologize. It's outrageous.

The pizza was truly delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was great. I highly recommend it – and when I'm back in Mainz, I'll be back for a second round. 🙂

Al Cortile had been recommended to me several times, which is why I really wanted to go there. We had a reservation for 8:30 p.m., and even though it was so late, there was no table outside for us, so we had to wait 20 minutes. When you walk past Al Cortile, you see this cute little winter garden, but if you get a seat in the back part of the outdoor area, you're sitting like you're in front of a garage door, illuminated by lights that are far too bright, in a carelessly decorated back area. I don't understand how the front area can be so beautiful, while the back looks so bare. We had bruschetta for starters and two pasta dishes for main courses. The bruschetta actually came pretty quickly, but the main course was served around 10:00 p.m. From what we heard from the neighboring tables, they also waited about an hour for their food, and some of them even received it separately. Al Cortile advertises fresh, homemade pasta, which I wouldn't agree with. My spaghetti was a bit too al dente, some of it really hard, and my companion's tortellini was almost like supermarket tortellini. Because of this, I personally find the prices a bit high. However, since the place is incredibly busy, it's quite possible we just caught a really bad moment. I highly recommend making a reservation.

I have rarely eaten such delicious Italian food as I did in this restaurant. We sat downstairs in the vaulted cellar with friends. No internet reception, which I found very positive because no one was on their cell phones. Unfortunately we ordered the starter wrong, but it was still very tasty. What I found to be a highlight was that the homemade noodles were really homemade. Pasta filled with asparagus, simply extremely delicious. I tried the pizza at my friends' house and the dough was really great. Nicely mildly soured and you can immediately taste the long dough. But the best thing, as silly as it sounds, was the panna cotta for dessert. I have never eaten such delicious panna cotta and by far. Absolutely sensational. The atmosphere was really nice. I will now go to this restaurant every time we visit our friends in Mainz. Thank you for the great evening!

As always, a real treat! The excellent food, attentive service, and pleasant and stylish ambiance ensure we always have a wonderful evening here. Both the wood-fired pizza and the Orecchiette alla Vesuviana are unique and irresistible.

We were here for my birthday. The food was consistently delicious. They even improvised pasta with tomato sauce for our children, which wasn't on the menu. The wine and service were also excellent!

A truly lovely evening with friends, in a pleasant atmosphere, with very friendly service and, above all, delicious wine and food. The only downside is that you only have a table for two hours, so we unfortunately couldn't order dessert because we were running out of time. But we would go back anytime.

If you really want to eat well, this restaurant is a top recommendation. We order mussels, pizza and duck liver. All dishes were of outstanding quality and taste. The pizza was by far the best pizza we have ever had in an Italian restaurant. The duck liver was cooked to perfection and tasted a real sensation. The mussels tasted flawlessly. The atmosphere is very cozy and worthy of a top Italian restaurant. Conclusion: A top address for people who value good food and a nice ambience.

The alCortile impressed us with its great ambience, excellent service and delicious food. The dishes were fresh, prepared with great attention to detail and tasted excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We felt completely comfortable and will definitely come back. Absolute recommendation!

We ate downstairs, it felt like we were in a canteen. Zero Italian flair. The grated Parmigiano was taken away immediately after asking. Very economical! Pizza f.d. Price too small, salad not rich and poor. 1st and last time. There is better Italian. Local😉

This restaurant has been around since I was a child and has never waned in terms of the top quality of the food and drinks prepared. Added to this is the unique, cozy, elegantly rustic atmosphere with the really coolest staff you can imagine! Not a single extra request will be denied here! 5/5 well deserved!

Very nice restaurant with friendly service. What is most convincing about a restaurant: the food. Best pizza ever, the panna cotta was also simply delicious! And I often eat pizza and panna cotta 😂 In the end I had to leave quickly (to the train); no problem, the panna cotta was there in two minutes. Overall, just a great, lovely evening! It's best to reserve in advance, as it was very busy (and rightly so).

The staff is very friendly and attentive. The Mediterranean, upscale cuisine is always excellent, every dish freshly prepared and delicious. I can only warmly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit!

Pizza advertised as being by the sea. Unfortunately fish was preserved from the jar. Cost €19.90. That's not okay.

A culinary experience! We went there for dinner with friends. The atmosphere and the waiters are friendly and accommodating, you feel like you are on a short vacation in Italy. The selection of food and drinks is enormous and there is something for everyone. We'd love to come back!

All dishes were attractively prepared and tasted convincing across the board. ordered take out dinner, was told 20-30 minutes. i paid 75 euros in advance… waited an hour and saw that the kitchen was idle. got some abusive (anti-semitic ?? i dont speak german) responses from the two men running it. i threatened to call the police and they finally gave my money back. Meanwhile my famiy ( including young children) didnt get food. Avoid at all costs!!!

For me the best Italian in Mainz. Wonderful spaghetti carbonara (with guanciale and Pecorino Romano)… just as it should be! Pizza Mozzarella di Bufala (with extra salame piccante)! Mussels in white wine or tomato sauce! Something for everyone. Great selection of starters and desserts. I feel comfortable and always in good hands with the staff. I therefore cannot understand the criticism of some reviews. If you smile and are nice, you usually get a smile and great service in return. If you are looking for a restaurant with a lively atmosphere, with great quality ingredients and feel just as comfortable next to people in jeans and a shirt as next to people in a suit and a shirt...this is the right place for you. Not cheap but justified. Always my pleasure.

5 Stars Best Italian restaurant in Mainz! Every time I visit home, the first thing I do is grab a pizza at AlCortile, it’s that good! But it doesn’t stop there. Every single pasta dish is absolutely delicious too. I can only recommend this place! The staff are super friendly, the location is perfect, and the interior is spot on. You can really tell the owner puts a lot of care into everything.

I've been a regular at alCortile for a long time and I'm impressed every time. The stone oven pizza in particular is an absolute highlight: the base is crispy, the ingredients are fresh and the seasoning is simply perfect. You can feel that great value is placed on quality and authentic taste here. The team is always warm and attentive, which creates a particularly welcoming atmosphere. If you enjoy Italian cuisine, you should definitely stop by - I'll always be happy to come back!

We have visited this restaurant several times. So far it has always been excellent. The food was also very good today. However, with high prices I also expect very good service. The service wasn't good. The waiter mixed up non-alcoholic and regular beer (a no go!), didn't know the menu and didn't know that glasses shouldn't be touched by the top. Our reservation also went wrong and we sat almost alone in the basement with a less pleasant atmosphere. Too bad Unfortunately, the waiter was completely unreasonable and didn't see the mistakes. Conclusion: Very good food and high prices, which are absolutely disproportionate to the service.

It's a shame we weren't happy at all today. We've been here many times but today wasn't good at all. The table we had ordered for a long time was not available at the agreed time, even though we asked again by phone 2 days before, that's bad. we had to sit in the almost empty basement. The service was a complete disaster. And then something else: If I order non-alcoholic beer and then get one with alcohol, that's not okay. At a restaurant in this upscale price range, I also expect upscale service. I also think it's bad when we tell the waiter our disappointment in a very matter-of-fact and friendly way, not a word of apology, but just evasions and excuses. Two stars for the food, zero for the rest. So we'll take a break here and get to know the other restaurant in Mainz.

I had a business lunch at alCortile. Despite the pre-Christmas season and the restaurant being fully booked, everything was excellent. Recommendation: make a reservation and enjoy the hustle and bustle.

I come from Frankfurt and go to Mainz specifically for good pizza and pasta. My absolute favorites are pizza with chanterelles or pizza with porcini mushrooms. The carpaccio is also super fresh and I discovered a cool new drink there in the summer, Italicus Spritz. Highly recommended. The owner is also super nice and personally checks that everything is correct. I would like to see an Italian like that in Frankfurt too.

Food was good but quite expensive. I had a pizza, my friends had various kinds of pastas, pizzas and desserts, everybody liked their food even the Italians. So main issue was price for example the water and soft drinks that refrained me from ordering more food... Pity.

If you want a partially raw pizza that tastes like nothing but dough, you've come to the right place. The other dishes were also very tasty in terms of taste. On top of that, you can also wait more than an hour for the starter and, after asking several times, another 1.5 hours for the main course. If you point out the unreasonable taste and the eternal waiting time to the restaurant manager, he sees no fault with himself or his restaurant, but only with the customer, because he has been doing the whole thing like this for 35 years. All in all a very sobering first and last visit. We absolutely cannot understand the many positive reviews; the alCortile is definitely not recommended.

The al Cortile, an Italian ristorante in the heart of Mainz's old town. In summer you sit on the great terrace and at this time of year in the cozy fireplace room. The food was delicious (you can't decide, pizza or pasta). The service is attentive and very friendly. We really enjoy coming here.

Pumpkin raviolacci with salsiccia and beetroot were outstanding and an absolute highlight in terms of taste, for which I would definitely come again. My wife's pizza was average and really nothing special for the price. She would probably prefer the pasta next time too. The rooms really appealed to us. The service was attentive, but the facial expressions were as expressionless as possible. We would have liked a more friendly atmosphere here, but everyone has a bad day.

We go out to eat very often and were actually looking forward to an Italian restaurant as we know it, but we were supposed to come back in two hours, even though there were free tables in the basement, a bit strange, but we just went for a walk. We had pasta and a fish dish, all very tasty!! We'd love to come back but it's better to reserve in advance.

I ordered a pizza and an aperitif. The pizza was okay. Unfortunately the service wasn't very attentive. The tables for two are placed far too closely together so that there is no cozy atmosphere. The Ristorante alCortile is a very nice restaurant in a stylish atmosphere. Fresh pasta specialties, classic fish and meat dishes, as well as rustic Italian dishes are served. It takes some getting used to that a table is reserved either from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or from 8:15 p.m.... this meant that a queue formed that got entry at 6:00 p.m. sharp! The food is delicious and the service is nice. What more could you want! 👍
