Rio Grande in Rellingen

Delicious food & very friendly service

I used to love going to this restaurant and always looked forward to the spare ribs. Nowhere else were they as delicious as in Rio Grande Rellingen! Yes, emphasis is on “were”. Since our last visit, the Rio Grande has changed hands. I'll start from the beginning: We had reserved a table for two outside by phone – for our 15th anniversary. We wanted to sit on the edge facing the street if possible. There used to be umbrellas outside if I remember correctly. These were replaced by a huge awning, which was not fully extended to the street. This meant we couldn't sit there because of the strong sunlight. When we arrived we were greeted hesitantly. It was quite empty, we had almost free choice of seats. (By the way, the building still looks cozy as always, except that I've been missing the large aquarium for years; it was dismantled a few years ago.) The first table we tried outside was on a trellis and wobbled. The second table was next to the fountain and had a list because of the floor. The third was a table for at least 6 people and consisted of 2 tables. There was far too little space for the next row of tables, the chairs were just squeezed between them, but we decided on this table anyway, luckily there wasn't anyone at the table behind it. Unfortunately, that changed quickly and it became extremely tight. No one could sit directly behind my husband because there was simply not enough space. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. We then ordered quickly because we were already very hungry and decided on the barbecue spare ribs with country potatoes, sour cream and BBQ sauce. My special request to leave out the sour cream was accepted without any problems. The food arrived about five minutes after we ordered - that seemed strange to us. We both started with our potatoes, they just tasted like fat, not really tasty without sour cream or BBQ sauce if you're a potato fan. The ribs no longer looked like they used to. Back then they consisted of two large rows of baby ribs: clearly defined, no added fat, very tender. Today there were 2 rows again, on top of baby ribs, underneath a row of larger ribs. The baby ribs were tender and tasted rather weak and a bit dry, they weren't seasoned as deliciously as before and sometimes I had a musty smell in my nose when I was eating them. After the first row of ribs (there were only a few ribs), it was time for the piece below. It was pretty fat, had indefinable pieces on the top and bottom and a few bones were broken (a splintery thing when eating). Then we were astonished and disgusted: the silver skin was not removed! It was difficult to cut and was also difficult to eat. I've never experienced anything like that in a restaurant! My husband took the trouble and picked off the silver skin because he found it so disgusting... I just ate it as much as possible, but it wasn't tasty, and here too I always had a musty smell in my nose. Hunger drove it in! Halfway through the second row of ribs, we asked the waiter whether it was customary here that the silverskin was not removed. He couldn't answer that, but then wanted to ask. Since my husband was already very frustrated with the disgusting food, he just said "don't bother asking, we've almost eaten it." When he's hungry, he just eats up. Personally, I didn't gnaw the last two ribs; the bone splinters were too dangerous for me. We actually wanted to have cocktails, after all it was our anniversary. But our mood was in the basement, so we immediately asked for the bill. The waiter wanted to give us another schnapps on the house, but we didn't want any more. It's extremely rare that we don't leave a tip, but that was the case this time.

Were there on April 22nd, 2025 with 7 people without a reservation. Still got a good spot. The food was consistently delicious and the service was very friendly and accommodating. We'll be back!!

Excellent restaurant, attentive and friendly service with a good price-performance ratio. A nice team. Steaks, lunch is highly recommended. The menu is varied, cocktails under €10. Ample parking spaces.

I had an incredible experience at [Rio Grande restaurant ,Rellingen ]! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive !The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish I tried was bursting with authentic flavors, and the portions were generous. The filet steak 300g was a standout, cooked to perfection!

I ate there for the first time and wasn't happy. My baked potato was too soft and didn't taste good, and the salmon had two small pieces. You can eat better elsewhere for this money. Sorry food deserves 1 star

We have our civil wedding in the Rio Grande on March 6th, 2025 Celebrated with 32 people. Communication went great right from the start and without any problems. We decided on a few dishes that we would like to offer that evening. First of all there was a really delicious salad. The food came relatively quickly for such a large group of people and in really short intervals so that we all had our food almost at the same time. The food was really great… from vegetarian castles to steak, everything was there and everything was really great. The waiters were all friendly and didn't show any signs of stress. Plates, forks and a large knife were brought to us to cut the cake. The service that evening was really great and we couldn't have imagined a better location for this special day. We were allowed to use the evening before the wedding to decorate. On the day of the wedding there were already glasses and plenty of bottles of water on the tables so that we were well looked after from the start. At the end there was a bottle of wine and a Prosecco on the house. We will come back and are already looking forward to planning the next celebrations there. Thank you

Die Reservierung hat gut funktioniert. Wir betraten18.50 h das Restaurant und uns wurde sofort ein Tisch zugewiesen. Danach 35 Minuten warten auf einen Kellner zur Bestellung. Nach Zuruf kam er an unseren Tisch. Wir bestellten Getränke und danach speisen. Gegen 20.20 hatten wir dann unser Essen. Ich bestellte einen Riesen Burger. Die einzelnen beefscheiben waren Recht scharf gebraten Man schmeckte das angebrannte. Die dritte- und letzte Scheibe war auf einer Seite verkohlt, also nicht genießbar. Kommi vom Kellner......ach....das tut mir aber leid. Das Restaurant war echt gut besucht. Das Personal schien jedoch mit dem Ansturm kopl überfordert. Besuche sie bestimmt nicht wieder.

We only got our food after 1 1/2 hours, there was no apology and we didn't get any compensation or anything like that at the house's expense. No recommendation!

The food is usually very rich and tasty, the service is very friendly and helpful. Apart from that, you can sit outside in summer and in colder times you can sit very comfortably inside (with decorations that always match the season). In addition, the restaurant always offers different dishes every month and at lunchtime (until 5 p.m.) - just give it a try.

Food was top. The fillet steak was great and to the point. However, I wouldn't get the fries again because of their very thin thickness. However, there are delicious baked potatoes or fried potatoes. My daughter's pasta came a little late. The little girl then got dessert on the house. That's called customer loyalty! Top operation and service.

Eating steak twice in one day is a bit decadent, but it's a good comparison. For me, the decor is a good mix between a typical steakhouse and something a little more airy. Service was super friendly, very well organized and always there when you needed it. Food quite excellent. Extra class. Here too, medium rare. Definitely coming back.

The food has gotten better again and so have the portions. However, the prices have risen considerably and the staff has become less friendly. The atmosphere is no longer what it used to be... What a shame!!

Gute Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken. Ich hatte den Mr. Avocado Burger. Dieser war lecker. Die Portionsgröẞe ist für mein Empfinden recht gross. Es waren viele Pommes dabei, die auch recht lecker waren und vor allen Dingen auch heiß. Service war auch prima und präsent , es wurde stets nachgefragt, ob man noch etwas nachbestellen möchte. Baulich gibt es in dem Lokal viele Stufen, insbesondere zum WC, welches im Keller ist. Parkplätze, die zum Lokal gehören, gibt es auf gegenüberliegenden Strassenseite.

The service is very friendly and you feel welcome. The food, on the other hand, is really not a burner. I had the fillet pan. 2 pieces of meat in the pan with a sauce that looked like it came from a bag... which unfortunately also reflected in the taste.. I think it came from that Bag .. The Caesaraalat doesn't deserve the name and the price is simply a rip-off. There was green lettuce, torn into small pieces, with far too much dressing on it...tomatoes adorned it...cut too big and unnecessary...and then the cheese was missing...!!!! I'm just saying...someone in the kitchen has no idea... For 2 people 60 euros for a meal that didn't taste good...never again... It's a shame about the service...they're great and the ones behind the scenes should be too

The food was really good, but the starters came with the main course and that created chaos on the table, plus a starter soup that was on the house, definitely a great idea, but should be announced in advance as not everyone eats the soup wanted to, the waiter got a little angry and tried to get rid of the soup. When I was paying, things got really bad. I pointed out that I would get the bill because I had invited, and the waiter, who gave me the bill quietly, shouted the amount loudly around, and even people at the next table were shaking their heads shaken.

The man who served us today was unprofessional and sometimes unfriendly. For example, when ordering, he stood at the other end of the table and you had to place the order loudly across the table. The starter was passed over the railing to the table. Too bad! Even the schnapps after dinner wasn't offered today, austerity measures??? Not sure if I'll go again?!

The Beyond Burger came with a dry, broken bun, with the patty lying almost all alone between the halves. Two or three thin slices of pickled cucumber, a large slice of tomato, two small leaves of iceberg lettuce. The top and bottom halves were very thinly coated with guacamole. When I asked why there was no burger sauce or ketchup, I was told succinctly, “We have burgers like that.” However, the other non-vegetarian burgers at the table looked completely different. Overall, a very miserable Beyond Burger for just under €20 - definitely not recommended.

I really recommend eating here. My friend and I were very disappointed. The fries were soggy. Oversalt EVERYTHING, the meat like the sole of a shoe. The baguette was burnt and €22 for a plate. An absolute disgrace. The only good thing was the nice waitress. She was very understandable that we absolutely didn't like the food. We certainly won't come again. A good restaurant only works with good cuisine. Unfortunately the nice waitress can't do anything about it. The entire restaurant falls and stands with the kitchen. We sent the food back. I really don't recommend going there unless a new chef is hired. My friend has been working in the catering industry for years and knows what makes a good restaurant and what you can expect.

So it wasn't bad in itself, but I ordered a medium stake and it was well done, then the waiter was very rude and I think for €100 I just didn't get what I expected. That's why I left dissatisfied. In my opinion you should be able to charge a price of 50-70 € for 2 people given the quality of the food and service. But not €100

In itself a nice and cozy restaurant, but we were rather disappointed with yesterday's craftsmanship. At the beginning we ordered 3 beers, 2 beers and an Alster water were served. The rib-eye steak, which was ordered at medium cooking level, was bloody and therefore rather rare. The ribs & chicken combination was of poor quality (ribs tasted like they had been reheated 3 times) and even made you feel unwell afterwards. When asked about this, the staff responded understandingly and offered a spirit, which we accepted, but to our surprise it appeared on the bill. We won't be coming back.

Very nice and friendly. The food came to everyone at the table (9 people) at the same time, which made us very happy. The portions are very generous, so you really feel full. Very atmospherically furnished and the toilets are clean and tidy. A real recommendation!

Unfortunately, since the change in ownership, the food is no longer recommended at all. Both in terms of quality, consistency and taste. Salad soaking wet, croutons soft, meat overcooked and burnt, meat taste sour to bitter. The enormous price increase doesn't match this either. However, service staff tried hard. Overall, it's a shame.

We were there on Saturday evening. A nice welcome, a funny, courteous waiter and a very tasty meal. What more do you want. We'd love to come back ☺️
