A restaurant with a sensational view over the Rhine, also a beautiful beer garden, all located directly on a beautiful walking path. The food is good with good value for money, the ambience is nice.

The food is very good but the prices are very high. If you offer main courses for an average of 20+€ but only offer the ambience of a garden restaurant, the ratio is not right. A salad, for example, cost around €12 a few years ago, but now it costs €17 or €18. This is a price increase that cannot be explained by inflation alone. We will avoid the customs house in the future and look for cheaper alternatives.

Fantastic location, right on the Rhine. The restaurant offers good German cuisine at normal prices. The staff are friendly and attentive.

We had dinner at the Zollhaus restaurant. We ate roast pork with red cabbage. My wife ate a salad with bread dumplings. Both dishes are simply great. Highly recommended.

September 2024 nachmittags Auf der dortigen Webseite des Restaurants wird Werbung gemacht, zum "Tisch reservieren" - also wollte ich mitmachen, ABER im nächsten Schritt wird mitgeteilt, dass diese Funktion derzeit nicht zur Verfügung steht - alternativ soll man telefonisch oder per eMail reservieren. Letzte Aktualisierung der Webseite im Juni 2024 - hier hätte man auch einmal die nicht funktionierende Reservierungsfunktion ändern können, da dies schon länger der Fall ist. Auf meine Reservierung, kam dann folgender Wortlaut zurück: "Ich habe Ihnen einen Tisch reserviert"... Vor Ort angekommen, habe ich am Eingang gewartet - nach kurzer Zeit, kam die Inhaberin und begrüßte mich mit: "Kann man Ihnen helfen?" Ein Tisch mit Reservierungsschild war mir zugeteilt, schön am Fenster, mit Blick auf den Rhein. Des Weiteren kommt die Chefin mit der Speise-/Getränkekarte, welche Sie mir allerdings geschlossen, auf meinen Tisch legte. In diesem Moment dachte ich nur 'willkommen oder egal'...? In Folge kommt ein Mitarbeiter - dieser freundlich und zuvorkommend und willens, gute Laune während des Besuches, beim Gast zu verbreiten. Bestellung: > Weinschorle: Affentaler Rieslingschorle 0,5l für 5,50 € > Aktionskarte: > 1/2 Dutzend Achat-Schnecken mit hausgemachter Kräuterbutter überbacken im Pfännchen serviert, dazu Baguette für 8,90 € > Tafelspitz vom Rind mit Meerrettichsauce dazu Boullionkartoffeln, Preiselberren und Rote-Bete-Salat für 25,90 € > Dessertkarte: Espresso Affogato für 4,00 € > Digestif: Ramazotti 30% mit 2cl für 4,00 € ********** Zusammenfassung: Der Wein war lecker - die Achat-Schnecken waren soweit geschmacklich gut, allerdings empfand ich diese als sehr klein, da Achat übersetzt 'afrikanische Riesenschnecke' heisst und dies war hier nicht gegeben > daher sollte man diesen Begriff in der Karte so nicht erwähnen, bzw. Achat-Schnecken aus der Dose schreiben, da der Begriff für Kenner von Schnecken schon irreführend sein kann. Der Tafelspitz, das Fleisch war stellenweise leider nicht weich genug - grundsätzlich zwar essbar, die Fettschicht am Rand, war noch sichtbar. Die Boullionkartoffeln waren zwar schön klein geschnitten, aber waren geschmacklich leider ungewürzt geblieben, zumindest habe ich dies so geschmacklich empfunden. Gegen Ende meines Besuches, hat auch das Personal gewechselt und eine weitere Mitarbeiterin kam, zum Bedienen bzw. Abkassieren der Gäste. Diese wiederum gegenüber der zweiten Kraft, war wieder völlig unnahbar und sie strahlte nichts aus. Ich hatte beim bezahlen, fast wiederum das Gefühl, wie zu Beginn 'willkommen oder egal' ...? Daher stelle ich diesen Besuch heute unter das Thema >> "Willkommen oder egal"... Wünsche allen Betroffenen alles Gute und vielleicht beim nächsten Mal "etwas lächeln" - kostet auch nicht extra und wertet das Ganze gleich viel besser auf ... :-)

Arrived Monday evening at around 6:45 p.m. Apart from us there are only 2 other guests, opening time according to the website until 9 p.m. We didn't feel welcome at all, more like "what else do they want here now?"... Great food but service absolutely unfriendly. After eating we were almost thrown out and had to pay because they closed at 8 p.m. As soon as we left the restaurant, the key was turned in the lock behind us and, to top it off, the outside light was switched off so that we had to trudge to the car in the pitch dark. Extremely disappointed, we were looking forward to a cozy evening. Conclusion: Summer and beer garden are great, you definitely won't see us here again in autumn/winter. Really a shame.

Visit on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in the afternoon The restaurant's website advertises the option to "reserve a table" - so I wanted to join in, BUT in the next step they informed me that this function is currently not available - alternatively you should reserve by phone or email. The website was last updated in June 2024 - the non-working reservation function could have been changed here, as this has been the case for a long time. When I made my reservation, the following wording came back: "I have reserved a table for you"... When I arrived on site, I waited at the entrance - after a short time, the owner came and greeted me with: "Can we help you?" I was assigned a table with a reservation sign, nice by the window, with a view of the Rhine. The boss also comes with the menu/drinks menu, which she closed and placed on my table. At that moment I just thought 'welcome or whatever'...? As a result, an employee arrives - friendly and accommodating and willing to spread a good mood to the guest during the visit. An order: > Wine spritzer: Affentaler Riesling spritzer 0.5l for €5.50 > Action card: > 1/2 dozen agate snails gratinated with homemade herb butter served in a pan, with a baguette for €8.90 > Beef boiled beef with horseradish sauce, served with bouillon potatoes, lingonberries and beetroot salad for €25.90 > Dessert menu: Espresso Affogato for €4.00 > Digestif: Ramazotti 30% with 2cl for €4.00 ********* Summary: The wine was delicious - the agate snails tasted good, but I found them to be very small, as agate means 'giant African snail' and this was not the case here > therefore this term should not be mentioned on the menu . Write agate snails from a can, as the term can be misleading for connoisseurs of snails. The boiled beef, the meat, was unfortunately not soft enough in places - although it was basically edible, the layer of fat on the edge was still visible. The bouillon potatoes were cut nice and small, but unfortunately the taste was unseasoned, at least that's how I felt it tasted. Towards the end of my visit, the staff also changed and another employee came to serve and collect money from the guests. This, in turn, was completely inaccessible to the second force and did not radiate anything. When I paid, I almost had the same feeling at the beginning as 'welcome or whatever'...? That's why I'm putting this visit under the topic >> "Welcome or no matter"... Wish everyone affected all the best and maybe "smile a little" next time - it doesn't cost extra and it adds a lot more value to the whole thing... :-)

It was cozy for a drink and a bite to eat. Unfortunately there are too many mosquitoes on the way that you couldn't stand it for long.

As a larger group, we were always very satisfied and full. The view of the Rhine is magnificent. The service staff are all very hospitable. The dishes with fried fish are recommended. We'll be back!

Today we were at the Zollhaus am Rhein for the first time, but definitely not the last. Our food was delicious, the service was very friendly and quick, and the price-performance ratio was good. We had a place right on the water... so everything was perfect!

Unfortunately I can't agree with the good reviews. The ambience is quite nice, service was quite nice and a bit overwhelmed, but our food (3 different dishes) was absolutely bland, tasteless and didn't taste good at all. We had to get our own pepper and salt, drinks were good.

The food was very good. Unfortunately, the espresso we ordered was not brought to us after our meal and we were no longer noticed or asked if we wanted to order anything else. We then had an espresso somewhere else.

We have loved the Zollhaus for many, many years, i.e. looking out over the Rhine under shady trees with cool drinks and the best view. A perfect starting or finishing point for excursions. The food is hearty and the portions are large enough to fill you up. The people in service are as quick as shooting stars!

We've been coming to the customs house on motorcycles for years. Nothing special, but always good for a stop with a view of the Rhine. Matjes highly recommended!

After a bike ride, like many of us, we stopped at the customs house. It was quite full, but you are happy to share space with other guests, so you should find it yourself. But then you will be served very quickly. Even though the terrace was full, the meal didn't take very long. The fish was delicious, especially the fish platter and there was a small salad with it 😋

The restaurant and beer garden are a good destination for a Sunday trip and if you get a table at the water's edge you can watch ships... the tuna salad was very good, but I would recommend that with fries or something similar. Only 2 slices of crispbread a little for me. Fried fish with potato salad a classic, a sufficient portion, you can't go wrong.

The waitresses seem stressed and therefore quite unfriendly. We waited almost 30 minutes for our food (currywurst with fries), which isn't bad in itself, but when guests who arrived 20 minutes after us got their food before us, it was annoying. We asked what was going on with our food, then it suddenly came straight away, but my friend was forgotten (she only got her food when the rest of us had already finished, and only after we asked again). The food itself was fine.

Went to the customs house with friends for the first time yesterday. I had goulash soup which was very tasty. My husband had the fried fish strips with potato salad. The pike perch with salad also looked very tasty. Finally, a delicious ice cream or an iced coffee convinced us that we would definitely come back.

I waited 25 minutes for my order (meatball and currywurst with baguette) at the kiosk next to it. After I asked if it would take long, the two guys started with my order. Honestly, I lost my appetite and canceled the order. I was yelled at afterward. One of the employees was quite aggressive and threatened me never to come here again. Of course the managing director of the customs house had no time. It's a shame about the good environment…

The food portions are very small, value for money 👎🏼. Service staff without structure. On days like May 1st or Father's Day, it's better to support the clubs and eat something good and cheap there.

If it weren't for the view of the Rhine and the pretty nice beer garden, we wouldn't go there anymore. Eating is fine, but what we always notice...there are always problems with the service. For example, if you ask for an extra pepper and salt mill, you wait in vain... yes, even if you ask multiple times. We're just coming to have a drink.

Absolute failure for a tour break I was eating at the Zollhaus with 4 friends after a long bike ride. We ordered a steak with fries, once fish with potato salad, twice currywurst with fries and once the Maultaschen. Each of us also drank a beer. The five of us ate everything, but only because we were all hungry after a 25 kilometer bike ride, otherwise we would have left half of it behind. We talked again as we continued our journey and my friends commented that it was "more of a snack bar than a restaurant", "processing like on an assembly line" and "uncoordinated". For one of them, the food only came after we asked several times, and only when the rest of us were almost finished. My steak was dry-fried and if I hadn't had anything to drink I would have choked on the piece of meat, it was very, very dry. We've decided we'd rather go somewhere else from now on, even if we have to drive 10 kilometers to do it. Even if the VAT has been increased for the catering industry, you at least expect to get something good for your money, otherwise you could have cooked at home. Absolute failure, never again.

The restaurant at the Zollhaus is not recommended, the service was too slow for the gastronomic standard and uncoordinated. The food was dry, the fries smelled and tasted strange, and the salad was watered down and tasted like nothing, and the schnitzel was more breading than meat, and for €21, that's a shame. When you mentioned the above-mentioned points of criticism to the boss, the conversation was immediately stopped and you were treated as if you were not worthy of the conversation (scum), and you weren't even listened to to the end. The head chef and the main cook came to our table and when they were asked about the deficiencies, they vehemently denied that we were wrong and that the feedback from the guests was there because it was well attended. (In my opinion the restaurant is only busy because of the ferry and because there is usually nothing else nearby where you could eat). And the criticism was avoided because it couldn't be tolerated, and our friends who were sitting at the table also said that the two gentlemen from the kitchen acted arrogantly and treated you that way. However, the Custom House has bad food at overpriced prices, poor conditions, and poor management. The visit was a failure and you should find another place to eat.

Nice location right on the Rhine to have a drink and chill out. I had ordered matjes and they came 2 pieces of herring with fried potato, piece of cucumber, piece of tomato. So far OK, but the sauce comes from a TETRAPACK and costs 16.90 NO THANKS
