Restaurant waterkant in Hamburg

This is a "hidden gem" in Hamburg. Really delicious and well tasting food - prepared and served with great tastes and in a way that is also a treat for the eyes! Great service here, I believe is something that the restaurant thinks goes without saying, so you get good service from the second you step in through the front door. This must be expensive, you say... not really... Cheap it is not, but great value-for-money is for sure is and at a very fair price, I would say. Definitely not the last time we come here to eat!!

I was there yesterday with two friends, and we had a wonderful evening! The food was excellent, and all the staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating—without seeming forced. Afterwards, we went to 20up and were lucky enough to get a table right away. We had a fantastic view over Hamburg—and delicious cocktails 😊 We're already looking forward to our next visit 🍾

It's simply amazing! At first, I felt a little out of place, as the atmosphere is quite upscale. We received a very warm welcome and were served with great courtesy and friendliness. The food is fantastic and, in my opinion, very reasonably priced considering its quality. The open kitchen is a fascinating place to watch the chefs at work and offers the opportunity to thank them for the meal. Highly recommended!

First of all: I wish I could give it more stars; this meal was one of the absolute highlights of our stay in Hamburg. Advance reservations are required. The ambiance was lovely, the service second to none: friendly, attentive, and attentive. The food: my husband's menu was a dream, and the wine was perfectly chosen. We considered it very good value for money. I had the best chanterelle soup of my life and a delicious veal Wiener schnitzel with truffled mashed potatoes. It's a shame Hamburg is so far away... This was the worst tuna steak I had in my life.. First, it was mostly raw, second no taste at all. Burrata was amazing though, lovely staff, beautiful restaurant.

Unobtrusive, discreet in the background, but always attentive and friendly. Exactly what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. The next morning, Waterkant reveals itself from a different perspective – as the breakfast room of the Empire Riverside Hotel. Here, too, quality is paramount: From fresh fruit to hot dishes, high-quality coffee specialties, and Nordic classics, everything is there. Elegantly presented, with a tranquil atmosphere and a sweeping view over the harbor. My conclusion: A stylish restaurant with sophisticated cuisine, first-class service, and a magnificent view. Whether at dinner in the evening or at breakfast in the morning – the Waterkant perfectly combines enjoyment and serenity. Mi experiencia en el restaurante hoy Probé este restaurante hoy, y la experiencia fue realmente maravillosa en todo el sentido de la palabra. Cada plato que probé fue increíblemente delicioso, tanto que terminé todo, ¡lo cual es inusual para mí! El servicio fue excelente. De hecho, había hecho una reserva hace un tiempo cuando todavía estaba en Qatar, y había pedido que todos los platos fueran libres de alcohol y no contuvieran carne, ya que solo como comida halal. Para mi sorpresa, todo superó mis expectativas. Los sabores eran excepcionales — ¡honestamente, me sorprendió lo sabroso que estaba todo! Agradezco sinceramente a todo el personal por su cálida hospitalidad, y un agradecimiento especial al chef por la increíble comida.

Il cibo non è assolutamente a livello delle aspettative ed il personale è scortese. Mi sono recato per una cena di affari, il menù era predefinito scegliendo alcuni piatti dal menu. Un antipasto insignificante, gamberetti con base di purè di patate dolci, salse incomprensibili, un piatto da non consigliare. Il secondo un filetto di vitello con 3 asparagi e 2 patate, carne tenera, asparagi buoni, un piatto senza lode e senza infamia. La cosa peggiore è che chiedo al maitre di Sala una schnitzel prima di ordinare il secondo, alla mia richiesta risponde secco con uno scortese “NO”. Non avendo il menu sotto mano non potevo immaginare quanto scoperto poco dopo, ovvero che la schnitzel era in menu e che lui non mi ha voluto proporre il piatto perché non incluso nel menu concordato. Alla fine della cena, dopo aver mangiato il dessert per curiosità prendo un menu e mi accorgo che la schnitzel era un piatto disponibile. Alllora chiedo chiarimenti al maitre di sala (un signore pelato con pizzetti) il quale sorpreso dalla mia richiesta di giustifica dicendo che mi ha detto “NO” perché non era inclusa nel menù predefinito. Li ho dovuto puntualizzare quanto fosse stato scortese, irrispettoso nei miei confronti in quanto avrebbe potuto dirmi che non era inclusa e mi avrebbe potuto proporre l’alternativa a pagamento, grazie a Dio posso permettermi 35 Euro per una schnitzel. Conclude dicendo che era stato un misunderstanding ma assolutamente non è così, grande sufficienza poca voglia di lavorare e scortesia. Male, molto male questa arroganza, non c’è attenzione al cliente in un ambiente e un locale che invece dovrebbe avere un approccio diverso al cliente . Purtroppo se il personale è questo non mi meraviglio perché il locale fosse semivuoto. Insomma cucina di medio livello e personale scortese, lo sconsiglio vivamente.

We arrived at 6:00 p.m. and had to be at the musical by 8:00 p.m. They organized everything perfectly, ensuring we were able to fit in the schedule, even for eight people with a starter and main course. The staff were also very friendly, attentive, and accommodating.

We recently visited Waterkant and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We had a table near the open kitchen, but it was never noisy, and it was fascinating to watch the Waterkant team at work. Everything ran smoothly, and the service was excellent. We opted for the surprise menu, and every course was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!

Food poisoning… The fish wasn’t fresh. The plating looked bad — nothing like their Instagram photo ( last picture) Friendly service, but quite slow. Warm atmosphere overall, but the experience was ruined by the bad food…. ANSWER TO YOUR RESPONSE : Thank your for your consideration… Yes, it was confirmed by a doctor. I’m glad to read that no other customers were affected. As for the meal, it wasn’t exquisite, nor was it bad. I was hungry – so I ate. My experience was neither particularly pleasant nor unpleasant. I started feeling the effects about 30 minutes after eating. That said, I’d like to highlight once again how warm and kind the lady who served it was – she really made the experience more pleasant. As for the photos, they weren’t originally meant as a complaint – I was simply sharing them with a friend remotely. It was only afterwards that I realized they didn’t showcase the dish in the best light….

Überraschungsmenü für ein Geburtstagsabendessen gewählt. Es war der Hit - auch durch die hervorragende Begleitung unseres Kellners. Ein absoluter Profi im positiven Sinne, der uns in jeder Minute mitgenommen und das Dinner zu einen Höhepunkt unseres HH-Aufenthaltes gemacht hat. Auch das Überraschungsmenu hat unsere persönliche volle Punktzahl verdient: Optisch, qualitativ und auch in der Quantität zu 100% zufrieden. Die begleitenden Weine für unseren Geschmack sehr passend und sehr gut. Ein herzliches Dankeschön allen Teammitgliedern, die sich um einen schönen Abend für uns und unseren Abend gekümmert haben. Wir haben jede Minute genossen und werden dies bei unserem nächsten HH-Besuch versuchen zu wiederholen.

Our requests were handled quickly and professionally, without feeling rushed or impersonal. The food was a true highlight: fresh, creatively prepared, and of the highest quality. We were particularly impressed by the variety of dishes – there's something for everyone, whether you're a fish lover, a meat enthusiast, or a vegetarian. Reservamos con un mes de antelación para la cena de un sábado por la noche en diciembre. La comida y el servicio eran excelentes. Los platos estaban muy bien cocinados, incluyendo la mejor col roja que he probado. Buena selección de bebidas, y cócteles de temporada inventivos incluyendo opciones no alcohólicas. Los postres eran muy refinados, también. A pesar del nombre, muy pocas mesas tenían vistas al lado del agua y la decoración no era de mi agrado - nuestra mesa estaba en el medio del restaurante en una prisión - como jaula rodeada de parrillas de metal de piso a techo. Estábamos solos en esta sección, así que había cero atmósfera. Otros huéspedes estaban junto a una ventana (nota: en invierno no hay vista en la oscuridad) o se enfrentaban a la impresionante cocina abierta. La decoración claustrofóbica significaba que no podía esperar a irme, para ser honesto.

We ended our Christmas party there with food and drinks. The service was really impeccable. Many thanks to the staff! Due to pregnancy, I couldn't eat one course of the menu because it was made with red wine. I was offered an alternative in a flash! Der Höhepunkt des Essens war der aufmerksame, zuvorkommende und wirklich freundliche Service, der aber leider das Essen nicht wettmachen konnte. Das Tartar (21€) war von der Größe in Ordnung, auf der Suche nach irgendeinem Gewürz; die (zwei) Jakobsmuscheln (21€) waren in der Vorspeise eher die Beilage und der Pannfisch (32€) für 2 kleine Stücke Lachs und Kabeljau, die beim einen viel zu kurz in der Pfanne und somit komplett roh, und beim anderen tot-gebraten und Gummiartig waren haben die Herzen nicht höher schlagen lassen. Wirklich gut war nur das Brot, welches mit einer frischen Bärlauchcreme serviert wurde. Eigentlich schade, da ich mich nach den vielen positiven Bewertungen auf besseres Essen eingestellt hatte, aber hier verrennt man sich in Präsentation und farbigem Licht, wobei leider die Qualität des Essens hinten runter fällt.

Love this place! Went there for dinner several times. Their goat cheese salad is too die for!! The salmon was great as well :) for the desert it was good but nothing too special. Comes a bit on the expensive end but totally worth every penny! Highly recommended

Waterkant has a very fansy and chic vibe. The staff were extremely lovely and professional. We decided to all have a Schnitzel and it was truly one of the best I have ever eaten. The lighting and open kitchen added to the atmosphere. I would recommend this place for either a business meeting or a chic night out.

Ein toller Eingang zum Hotel berietet den Weg ins Restaurant. Sehr nette Begrüßung am waiters desk. Auf dem Weg zum Tisch wurden wir vom ganzen Personal immer wieder freundlich willkommen geheißen und das, obwohl viel Betrieb war. Wir haben uns für das Überraschungsmenü samt Weinbereitung entschieden wurden wirklich von den relativen Gerichten und perfekt angestimmten Weinen überrascht. Ein wirklich toller Abschluss unseres Trips nach Hamburg.

We are now regulars at Empire Riverside and have often eaten at Waterkant. On the occasion of our stay at the Empire last weekend, we decided to visit the Waterkant on Saturday evening. After we had previously attended the musical Dance of the Vampires, the dinner was a successful end to a beautiful day. The service at reception was very friendly and accommodating, which had a positive effect on the entire evening. The food was very good and speaking to the chefs in the open kitchen was a nice experience for me as an amateur cook. Thanks for some tips. In summary, my wife and I would like to say a big thank you for a perfect evening!

I ate the most delicious ox cheeks there ever. All courses were taste explosions. A great crew, service great! The food was so delicious that I felt the need to thank the kitchen staff personally. In particular the new interpretation of the "shrimp cocktail"! The service was extremely friendly and very attentive, even though the restaurant was full. Es war ein so wundervoller Abend - vom ersten bis zum letzten Moment. Die Mitarbeiter/innen waren unaufdringlich freundlich und umsorgten uns umsichtig, aufmerksam, ich würde schon fast sagen liebevoll. Man findet das leider nicht mehr so häufig. Das Essen war sensationell - anders kann ich es nicht nennen.

In order to redeem the Christmas present, we booked a 5-course menu including wine accompaniment here for the end of January 2024. The food was fabulous, there was nothing wrong with it. What should be emphasized above all is how pleasantly, friendly and authentically we were welcomed by the service and accompanied throughout the evening. Unreserved recommendation! That was a really nice evening!

Sehr liebevoll angerichtete Speisen und bekannte Gerichte neu interpretiert. Uns hat es sehr gut geschmeckt und wir empfehlen das Restaurant (gehobene Gastronomie) gerne weiter.

Das Abendblatt Lieblingsmenü war sehr lecker und kreativ.

Essen war sehr gut, Bedienung super freundlich, Timing der Gänge sehr gut. Einziger negativer Kritikpunkt: Einige 2er Tische stehen nur durch ein Lochblech getrennt direkt neben dem Nachbartisch. Man hört also wie in einem Beichtstuhl beim Nachbarn zu. Bei einer Reservierung sollte man also sicherstellen, dass man nicht an diese Tische gesetzt wird, wenn man sein Tischgespräch privat halten möchte.
