A truly well-rounded menu: The festive soup as a starter was hearty and delicately seasoned, with perfect dumplings and small Maultaschen (ravioli), a starter as it should be. The Schäufele (shoulder of pork) in the main course was a true highlight: tender meat, crispy crust, and a dark beer sauce you'd want to dunk down to the last drop. Accompanied by fluffy potato dumplings, it doesn't get much better than this. To finish, apple fritters with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream: simple, classic, delicious. Everything is just right here—a solid 10/10.

The price/performance ratio is good, and the service is very friendly. The weather was great in the evening, and the atmosphere outside was very pleasant.

Last Sunday, we should have given the sun a wide berth. The roast beef was as tough as a shoe sole, there were far too many customers per server, and the beer was way over-filled – but it was served with a generous amount of foam. Although the tables were already emptying on what was sure to be a busy Sunday lunchtime, we waited exactly an hour for our food. No information was given that it might take longer for us to order. Moreover, no server showed the slightest interest in us during that hour. It was also practically impossible to speak to anyone about the meat being far too dry. A request to the table next to us ("You have to order in the next 1-2 minutes, otherwise we'll only have the small menu") was more reminiscent of a fast-food chain ending its breakfast hours than a cozy stopover – the people sitting there had been seated maybe a minute earlier. 3 stars would be appropriate for Sunday. Since we were there in February and everything was excellent, we'll still give it 4 stars. The €65 for two meals and three drinks could be spent more wisely.

Very friendly staff. The food quality is excellent. You can eat from the standard menu until 2:00 PM. From 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, you can always eat, but you're limited to a limited menu. However, it's still very good! I highly recommend it. Be warned: the seating is typically German: huge!

We had dinner here. It was delicious. My portion was a bit small, but still within reason. Dessert afterward, and then it's over! :-) The taste was good. Prices were reasonable, service was excellent! Even though it's right on the main tourist strip, it still has a certain inn charm. We were absolutely satisfied. :-) Thank you.

The outside area is attractive and the waiters are polite, but the food is disappointing: €20 for a battered, dry, breaded turkey schnitzel and fries that were cooked to varying degrees (I probably got the leftovers from the basket). The pasta was still in the pasta water, and the salmon wasn't great either. Such a beautiful old town, and the food leaves a negative impression.

We were four people at this restaurant and ordered three different dishes (two of them were the same). Unfortunately, all of us felt very sick after the meal — we experienced acid reflux, stomach pain, headaches, and overall discomfort. This ended up affecting the rest of our trip. The experience was quite negative, and I believe it is important to leave this registered so that others are aware of the lack of quality and care with the food served.

We were a group of four and ordered three dishes (two were the same). Sadly, we all felt unwell after the meal — reflux, stomach pain, headaches, and discomfort ruined the rest of our trip. We were also told outdoor seating was for reservations only, yet others without reservations were seated outside. This was a very negative experience, and I feel it’s important to highlight the lack of quality and the mistreatment with foreigner.

It was OK. The dumplings and fries were frozen. My friend had a pork shoulder, which tasted like it had been sitting in the warming cabinet for a few hours. My cordon bleu was okay, but nothing earth-shattering. It looked like rest stop food, and it tasted like it, too. But the prices were too high at €20 per dish and the poor quality, in my opinion. As a local, I won't be eating there again.

My Schäufele wasn't worth the money, the Maultaschen filling still has a lot of room for improvement.

More like a waiting room than a restaurant! We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday evening in August. The roughly half-filled outdoor area initially seemed appealing. But this impression only lasted briefly. Actually, until we sat down at the table. Eating together is a dream here. It's more like a culinary relay race. Everyone gets a turn, and with a bit of luck, the dish or drink they ordered. Food: The cheese spaetzle had black hairs mixed in, which didn't exactly whet one's appetite. The fries were undercooked, and the schnitzel was dry. Half a tomato and a lettuce leaf were meant to add a decorative touch to the schnitzel. Service: A total of five service members were on duty. Unfortunately, only one was able to take orders and collect payments, while her colleagues, well, what exactly were they doing? Collecting mileage allowance? We've never experienced such disorganized service. Dishes were sloppily cleared away, leaving roots on numerous tables. Not only we, but a large portion of the restaurant was left high and dry, or with empty, uncleared plates from previous guests, because, as described, only one server could take orders. All other servers referred to this colleague. The wait was enhanced by the server's unintentional comedic quips. At one table, the dishes remained unattended on the table for over 20 minutes after the guests had left. When new guests arrived at this table, they were not served for over 10 minutes and were subsequently asked if they had enjoyed their meals. Then two of the six plates were cleared and referred back to the colleague who takes orders. It took another 10 minutes for her to return to the guests. Many guests, like us, would have liked to reorder drinks, for example, and thus generate more revenue in the restaurant. Tip: Order your desired drink twice at once so you don't die of thirst, if you even get the chance to place your order. We had to ask four people to pay, and it took another 30 minutes before the aforementioned colleague reached us. She was visibly surprised and confused by our criticism of the service, while other guests lined up behind the employee to also express their payment and ordering concerns. At no point did any of the waiters show any interest in our criticism. What a shame!

The food was unfortunately not good. We had the lunch menu; the soup, apart from being very fatty, was very fatty, and the meat tasted like bad liverwurst. We had Wiener Schnitzel for our main course because the selection was very limited. The fries were cheap, compared to McDonald's. The schnitzel was okay, but we had a real stomach ache well into the night. The presentation was also very poor. The value for money is absolutely not right. The service was nice!

Absolutely don't stop to eat. Infested with green flies, the kind that look like maggots, the entire dinner. At least 30 or 40 flies on the plates while eating. Torturous. It's a shame because the atmosphere is lovely.

Everything's great, gladly again!

Ready-made sauce, ready-made dumplings, and schnitzel from the deep fryer, and a lackluster appearance – at reasonable prices. Sorry, but we felt it was a rip-off. We were there for lunch with a large group. The service was still very good. But we would classify the food as tourist class. The space under large umbrellas, with a beautiful old town backdrop, is truly lovely.

The staff was extremely friendly and attentive, making us feel at home from the very beginning. What's particularly nice is that they even cater to younger guests – there are simple and popular options for children, such as fries or dumplings with gravy. The food is of a very high quality – not a bargain, but definitely worth the price. You can taste that fresh, high-quality ingredients are used here. The ambiance is pleasant and inviting, ideal for a relaxing evening. The restrooms were also clean and well-maintained – a detail that, unfortunately, isn't a given everywhere, but here it stands out positively. Overall, a very harmonious experience. We'd be happy to come back!

It may be that we chose the worst dishes on the menu... Don't order the cheese spaetzle. They come with virtually no cheese, but with an unmistakable coating of deli broth. The complaint was recorded, but no compensation was offered. That's not how they attract regulars, but it's probably not their business model anyway. A waste of money. Across the street, the value for money would have been much better.

There's no need to offer service here. My partner is finished, and my food was carried to another table without apology. My partner's salad was also left out. The cashier just grins mockingly and shrugs, "Mistakes happen." Never again!!!!!

This restaurant is located on Dinkelsbühl's historic market square. We had a really good lunch. The chicken breast salad was amazing. We'd be happy to go back.

The ambiance and the beautiful terrace – that's why we went. Unfortunately, the service and the food were a disaster: - One of the meals didn't even arrive. - The so-called schnitzel, which was actually a ready-made schnitzel from the freezer for almost €20, was a disgrace. - Last but not least, the hot soup was placed directly in front of my 1-year-old son without any notice. Before we could even look, he, of course, as one would expect with common sense (!!!), slid right in and burned both his hands. When we didn't tip at the end and didn't even offer an explanation, the response to the soup incident was that it wasn't their job to look after the child. Speechless! We will definitely not go there again.

We finally got our shoulder of pork here. It was delicious, plentiful, and the price was right. The service was very friendly and handled the rush of the packed restaurant well. Everything was perfect here!

Unfortunately disappointed – no further visit planned I have always enjoyed visiting your restaurant, but my last visit was very disappointing. When we politely tried to order and drew attention to ourselves with an "Excuse me," the waitress loudly shouted at us. The phrase "That's enough now" was not only unprofessional but also disrespectful. I would understand if we had behaved inappropriately or condescendingly – but that wasn't the case. We were approached by the waitress completely unexpectedly and, in our opinion, unfairly. Such behavior is completely inappropriate for a restaurant of this class. I imagine we aren't the only ones who have had this experience. Dear management, please train your staff in how to interact with guests – no one wants to feel embarrassed when visiting a restaurant. We would very much like you, as management, to intervene. Until something changes, I unfortunately won't be coming back.

We went to Gasthof Sonne for lunch today. The food was very extensive and tasted excellent. I would like to highlight the onion roast medium, which was fried to perfection. Because of a child who had a small mishap, new fries were served without any extra charge, which is not a given. The very attentive and extremely friendly service was also very commendable. From our point of view, an unreserved recommendation.

Unfortunately very manageable portions. However, the taste is very good. Unfortunately, the drinks were served incorrectly - shandy with alcohol instead of non-alcoholic and passion fruit juice as a spritzer, even though only juice was expressly requested.

Service was okay. My Viennese style schnitzel was bland and had the charm of a chip shop. But too expensive for that... won't see me again!

There was an event in town that day with brass music, which meant there was only a small selection of dishes after 8 p.m. Out of necessity we ordered a broth with a variety of ingredients. I can only agree with the previous (bad) reviews, totally over salted!!!! And the baking peas in the soup were already so bloated, they had definitely been in this soup since early in the morning... (baking pea size=semolina dumpling size). The Maultaschen tasted like they had been bought cheaply and the semolina dumplings were actually just tasteless lumps of semolina. The beer selection also left a lot to be desired, as there was only Munich beer on tap (we are from Munich and were looking forward to a different beer in Franconia.) The Hugo I ordered only consisted of syrup and ice cubes... Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant in good conscience, which is a shame because the atmosphere at the place is really nice. However, you should consider choosing another restaurant here...

Augustiner beer, the best in Bavaria! Reasonable food. At 14:00 they change to a reduced menu, where fortunately there is Snitzel and sausages :). They speak English

There is a small selection of vegetarian dishes - but they are super tasty. Service was very friendly and accommodating even though it was busy. We'll be back next year. :)

Schäufele is without cabbage or salad, you have to pay extra, knives at the table are unsuitable for the crusty rind, and if you complain, another unsuitable knife is brought to the table

Very unpleasant waitress, the food is not only not tasty, but in places it is also not salted enough or sour or salted too much. Instead of soda, they brought me regular Sprite. Half of dishes were not available. I highly do not recommend this place

The food is not at the top by Franconian standards. Completely fine for tourists. As a Franconian, you don't get lost in the old town of Dinkelsbühl to eat.

Unfortunately, on Sunday (Mother's Day) the entire menu was not available before 5 p.m. We still decided on cheese spaetzle & burgers. The taste of the burger was basically very solid and good, but an absolute "no go" was that it was obviously only served warmed up at this time of day. For just under €19 I found it very disappointing. It was also a bit disappointing that the dip tasted almost 1:1 from well-known fast food chains and was not freshly prepared. The cheese spaetzle was a bit too soft in consistency and very thin in taste. It would have been within the range for a snack meal, but not in the same price range as the very nice ambience. The staff was also very friendly, probably only recommended if the kitchen is fully open. Be sure to reduce your menu outside of these times 🙏🏻

Selten ein so perfektes Fränkisches Schäufele gegessen!

Das Essen, was kam, war gut. Deshalb 2 Sterne. 1 Essen kam nicht, 2 Salate kamen nicht, und ein Essen kam falsch. Bedienung war nicht freundlich und hat am Ende noch falsch rausgegeben als ich kein Trinkgeld für diesen nicht vorhandenen Service geben wollte. Wir kommen seit 2014 regelmäßig, werden aber jetzt woanders essen. Wir mussten hinterher nochmal zu McDonalds damit alle wenigstens satt waren.

Ein Lokal bei dem 5 Sterne noch zu wenig sind. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet, große Portionen, die junge Dame, die uns bedient hat war sehr charmant und fähig. Sogar als wir eine österreichisch-fränkische Sprachbarriere beim Bier hatten, wurde ein „Sonderwunsch“ (Schnitt/Gemischtes) problemlos erfüllt. :) Unser erster Besuch in Dinkelsbühl im Zuge des Summer Breeze (auch) war dank dem Restaurant zur Sonne eine perfekte Erfahrung! :)

Wir haben gestern einen Tagesausflug nach Dinkelsbühl gemacht und saßen draußen und haben gegessen. Der Service war sehr schnell und freundlich. Das Essen, fränkisches Schäufele und Burger waren ausgezeichnet. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hier zum Essen gehen. Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.

Leider hat die Sonne unsere Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. Hier ist man eher auf den schnellen Umsatz ausgerichtet. Die Mitarbeiter sind professionell freundlich, es fehlt allerdings an der Herzlichkeit. Das Essen ist nicht schlecht, aber gefühlsmäßig eher im Conveniencebereich angesiedelt.
