We ate here with the family. The service was super friendly, the dining room was lovely and inviting. The food was very good, although the Cordon Bleu was a bit dry, but otherwise everything was delicious. I recommend the restaurant; it's a pleasure to eat here. Keep up the good work, it's simply fantastic!

A terrible experience. This is anything but Bavarian cuisine! The food was lackluster, at best, snack-quality. Please note: the owner changed at the end of 2024. Now it's a disaster. Don't go!

Absolutely terrible food!!! The owner changed in October, and since then, the German food has been anything but good. Completely overpriced, and the German language skills are poor. (It's a problem when ordering by phone.) I wouldn't order food there again.

Trying hard, but... Apparently, it's only on Tuesdays that it's so busy that if you don't have a reservation, you have to wait an hour for your food. This could perhaps be counteracted with one or two additional kitchen and service assistants. From the beer garden, you could "admire" the broken blinds on the kitchen windows, and there were unironed tablecloths on the tables in the garden. After waiting for my Kässpatzen (cheese spaetzle) for almost an hour, I was actually about to leave. I didn't even have cutlery or salad at my table. As a single person, I was completely ignored after ordering. When I wanted to pay and leave before I had my food, things suddenly moved quickly... I think the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) had been ready for a long time, as they were quite brown and dry on top, and you had to hunt for the cheese and especially the onions – and, all for a mere €14.90 – I'd say I've had much better cheaper options. Okay, the manager apologized and was friendly, but the waitress was completely overwhelmed, so she didn't have a friendly word to say. The price for a Russian half-liter (Russian half-liter) is reasonable at €3.70, but charging €2.90 for a small water is excessive! In my opinion, you're better off with the oriental dishes, as the entire staff seems to have more expertise in them than with Bavarian dishes. Oriental House instead of Schützenhaus!

A very nice restaurant, the outdoor seating area is very cozy. The owner is very attentive, friendly, and accommodating! There's a separate menu for vegetarian/vegan dishes. There were six of us there, and everyone enjoyed the food. The quality of the food is excellent.

I don't even know what to write. Apparently, a lot of things fell by the wayside with the change of tenant. If I understand correctly, they adopted the old menu and tried to continue it, which isn't entirely successful. The owner, who apparently also sets the terms, suggested the Oriental Falafel if we wanted vegetarian food. Since we're from the north, we wanted to enjoy Bavarian cuisine. My partner had the cheese spaetzle and I had the pile pan. The cheese spaetzle was good to very good, my pan, sorry, but it really wasn't anything. Three thumbs long and wide pieces of meat, little finger thick, topped with cheese, a portion of spaetzle, which were okay, the sauce a bit watery. €25, phew, I really had to bite my tongue. I should have said something when paying at the restaurant, but I was so angry that I would have been rude. Plus, the owner's little daughter was celebrating her birthday there, so I didn't want to make a fuss. The conditions/owner were generally very friendly, but Viechtach probably doesn't have it easy with the restaurant. He should focus more on oriental cuisine; Bavarian cuisine isn't his forte.

Josef is a very good host. We both had the falafel plate. It was very good. Everything is homemade, and you can tell. People, definitely stop by and try something from the oriental menu. People like him deserve to make it a success.

As a chef, I know how the costs of everything have risen and continue to rise. The food wasn't bad, but for those prices, you'd expect a larger portion. The food was okay. However, the service was questionable. Only one person was available for the dining room and bowling alley, where a larger group was eating. In some cases, the wait was two hours for the food. This is completely unacceptable.

The food was tasty although it was served quickly. But the big disappointment came when the bill arrived. Since we are on vacation we don't have any cash on us. This is outdated. No bank contact and no payconic. We had to go and find an ATM somewhere while our son stayed there. I can still assume no bank contact but NO payconic while this is simply available on the bank app. Yesterday I experienced the same thing at a pizza restaurant in the same municipality. I think that in Germany there is still a lot of black payment. It would have been polite at least if the customer had been informed from the start that there was only the option of paying in cash. Here in Belgium people no longer carry cash, even the ATMs have disappeared and have only been replaced by a cash point and then not in every municipality. This cash payment is outdated but I repeat that customers must be informed before the service

All in all, very good, a little insider tip. The food is more than adequate, the service is more than friendly, and the price is more than reasonable.

We happened upon the Schützenhaus by chance with a group of 6 people, and we were all thrilled! The food was amazing, absolutely reasonable in price, and very quick considering the number of staff and guests. Our youngest at the table (presumably with the owner's daughter) explored the adjacent playground, making it an entertaining evening for the little one as well. In short: The food was fantastic, the prices were reasonable, and we'll be back next time we're in the area :)

Answer: I'm not concerned about the discount (!), but rather that I relied on my experience and the reviews. I also lost time because I drove all the way to Viechtach and was looking forward to a special dish (I don't look at the price). Delete all reviews that refer to the previous tenant, then it's fair for everyone who informs themselves about it. And yes, I'm a bit more critical and don't give favor stars if something isn't quite right. I've described the situation. You can also see that I've given everything from 1 to 5 stars in the past. The menu was no longer what it was back then. Instead of ox cheeks in red wine sauce, we now had schnitzel with fries. Out of politeness, we ordered something and ate it, as we were very hungry. The waiter himself was also very polite. But the food was a huge disappointment. Basically, snack-quality food for a lot of money. What I don't understand is why the old reviews aren't deleted when the owner has a new owner. I also have a suggestion: I don't know exactly which country the owner is from, but I'm sure his home country has excellent cuisine. Why do they lack the courage to offer something like that? Or does nobody in the Bavarian Forest really want that? Every snack bar has currywurst and schnitzel. I don't think it will last long with these prices and the usual mass-market offerings, and I feel sorry for the young family who are clearly making an effort. Previous review: The ox cheek with red wine sauce was a dream, both visually and culinarily. The outstanding value for money for this quality is also remarkable. The service was also top-notch. Polite, attentive, and welcoming. I'll keep this place in mind for future hikes in the region. It's rare to find something this good among the mass-market restaurants, which unfortunately are also plentiful in the Bavarian Forest.

We spontaneously dropped by on a holiday and managed to get a table in the beer garden. The waitress said it would take a little longer today, but we didn't let that deter us. After about 35 minutes, our food was on the table. The cheese spaetzle and schnitzel were very good. The value for money here is truly excellent! Friendly waitresses, lovely little beer garden.

We (two adults, one child) wandered into the Schützenhaus for dinner yesterday, quite by chance and spontaneously. And it was a good thing! We all enjoyed the food, the portion sizes were perfect, and we were all full. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by for dinner. I hope the local community supports the restaurant with more visitors in the future. It's definitely worth it!

I spent a week on holiday nearby with my wife and we went to the Schützenhaus twice during that time. It wasn't easy to get something to eat in the area after 8 p.m. The Schützenhaus was a stroke of luck. The food was very tasty, everything freshly prepared. The price-performance ratio is completely fine. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely come back. There wasn't much going on so Josef was able to sit down with us after dinner. The new tenant took over the restaurant a few months ago and apparently things are not easy in Viechtach. He deserved a lot more guests. He clearly has a lot of heart in what he does. Dear Viechtachers, give Josef a chance. You won't be disappointed.

What particularly impressed us was the speed with which the food was prepared, which not only tasted delicious but was also truly fresh. You could immediately tell that the food is cooked with passion. After the meal, the chef even took the time to stop by and ask if everything was to our satisfaction. This personal conversation was very pleasant, and we immediately fell in love with him – such a personable, dedicated, and friendly person! Since we learned that he only recently took over the Schützenhaus, we would like to take this opportunity to wish him and his family all the best and much success. We are certain that with his warm personality and the excellent quality of his cuisine, he has a great future ahead of him. We will definitely be back and can only warmly recommend the Schützenhaus!

We've been here twice now since the change of operator, once in the evening and once for lunch, the service is catastrophic and unfriendly. You have to wait forever for the food and it doesn't taste good either. For a trained restaurateur, this place is a slap in the face. Addendum: As I already wrote, it was the second time I've eaten here and the first time too we waited forever and the food wasn't particularly great, so it's no lie. If I have a good mise en place today then 50 guests aren't a problem or you just offer No a la carte if you can't manage it. The service should communicate it if there are longer waiting times - one of the first things I learned back in my training. If everything is so great and good then I wonder why we don't hear anything good about you in all of Viechtach. Even at Kreutzberger there is only one chef and they still manage to serve twice as many guests. Have a nice day

After reading the reviews, we were looking forward to delicious traditional Bavarian food. Disillusionment upon our arrival. The menu on the internet as well as the menu on the notice board largely did not match the menu served in the restaurant. The dishes found on the menu in the dining room are clearly priced online and on the notice board. The welcome was friendly and the order was on the table quickly. The side salad was delicious, the rest was unfortunately average cuisine and very sparse and not lovingly prepared. The service was consistently chaotic and not just at our table. Wrong dishes came several times. We are happy about family-friendly restaurants, but if a 3-5 year old child of the staff sits down at a stranger's table several times and seeks physical contact, I expect the staff to intervene, also to protect the child. There's clearly not enough on the plate for the price asked. As tourists, we unfortunately only realized after our visit that the positive reviews mostly referred to the previous tenant. In the next few days we were fortunate to discover a few restaurants in the area that completely satisfied us.

The previous operator had a very good and diverse selection of fresh food. Unfortunately that's over! Breaded frozen fish with salad from a jar, hunter's roast without mushrooms. We were here for the last time!!!!!

The Schützenhaus now has a new tenant and we thought we would give it a try... I had a vegetarian dish, it had a good taste, but there were only 8 pieces of the Egyptian vegetables in the sauce!! Definitely not enough for the price and I wasn't full either! The service was very nice, but the boss came to collect, which I don't think is right because the tip is due to the service... There were no tablecloths, just rolls of paper on the tables, similar to kitchen roll, not really nice... We have often been to the Schützenhaus before because it was always excellent, unfortunately that is no longer the case and we will not be coming back... What a shame about a traditional Viechtach inn!

Wir waren am Abend des 2. Weihnachtsfeiertages 2024 im Restaurant. Sorry, aber wir werden nicht wiederkommen. Der bestellte Beilagensalat wurde nicht serviert. Die Lende war in unseren Augen recht wenig, 4 hauchdünne Scheiben, mehr nicht, da sind wir doch etwas anderes gewohnt. Satt gemacht haben die Eierspätzle mit der Schwammerlsoße. Das bestellte Fischfilet mit Kartoffelsalat (???) war geschmacklich leider auch nichts Besonderes. Auf der Homepage des Lokals hätte nach unserer Ansicht auch die spezielle Weihnachtsspeisekarte veröffentlicht werden müssen. Die guten Bewertungen, die hier veröffentlicht sind, scheinen den vorherigen Pächter zu betreffen, der das Restaurant leider nicht mehr betreibt.

I just had an excellent meal – onion roast with potato pancakes – which I can warmly recommend. In a friendly conversation with the team, I found out that there was a new tenant. The food, service and ambience deserve full marks! As a special highlight, there was even a small dessert and black tea. Thank you for the great hospitality! If I'm in the area again on business, I'll definitely come back.

The new owner puts his heart and soul into it. My onion roast was perfect, I have rarely enjoyed a sauce so good with it. The usual problems (finding reliable staff) don't make restarting easy for the owner. Go and enjoy the good food, we can only recommend it.

Today we were at the Schützenhaus for the first time since it reopened, after being regular guests at the Henkels for years. Overall, we enjoyed the food! We had the Münchner Schnitzel, which had a bit too little horseradish, a Schwabenpfandl, which tasted good, and the Bavarian Burger, which really impressed us!

Apparently under new management!!!!! Absolute disaster!!!! Were there because of the good reviews. Only later did I check that there were new innkeepers. Service staff completely disoriented, slow and chaotic. Food ok But if there is no sausage, no herb butter and no salad on the grill plate (according to the menu it is) and instead the 3 tiny, tiny pieces of meat are covered with tomato sauce you can complain, the boss was also very friendly and reduced the price. But I don't accept his answer because he has a mourning community of 30 people because they had reserved and he has to be prepared for that, so I have to position myself differently...... unfortunately there was no response to empty glasses either and the empty plates stood on the table along with the empty glasses for 30 minutes until we could finally pay. Too bad...

We discovered the restaurant by chance on the first evening of our vacation and after our first meal we knew: we would eat here all week! We immediately felt very, very comfortable in this familiar, warm atmosphere. The food and service were excellent without exception! Varied and always fresh - simply delicious! Unfortunately the Schützenhaus is closing in a few days (staff shortage, as is often the case these days). This means that Viechtach is losing a culinary pearl. Unfortunately I have to change my review from last year. We also ate here once and it was great. Reserved again for today at 6 p.m. Unfortunately, we were intercepted very rudely right at the door by an employee who apparently said we had the table at 5 p.m. and not 6 p.m. The eight of us are sure that 6 p.m. was agreed upon. At the same time, a group of 8 women who were well known were very happy that a reservation was made at such short notice. There are coincidences........ it's a shame

Ordered and picked up food there today at the end of our vacation. Very nice staff. Very good food. Great salads with different salad dressings and fresh salads. The Pfahlpfanderl was also very tasty. It's nice that there is good quality regional cuisine here. We read online that the tenant is quitting this year. It's a real shame and definitely a loss.
