It should be noted that this is a fine-dining restaurant. Such restaurants—and this perhaps needs to be pointed out to Google—are not for those who want to fill themselves up quickly. This is about high art; just as others go to a concert, those who enjoy culinary delights go to such restaurants and are willing to pay a price for this art. The ambiance is relaxed. Nothing where a cocktail dress and a suit are required. Therefore, there's no chair for a lady's handbag, and the waitress doesn't unfold your napkin with large tweezers while you're on the toilet. But even without that, a wonderful evening can be spent here in a very pleasant atmosphere and historic setting, at least for those who appreciate such a feast of culinary delights. I don't want to talk about the individual dishes. They change anyway. But this was an evening full of succulence and diverse, even quite robust flavors. Each of the five dishes from the kitchen was a small work of art, each of the eight courses a true delight. Here, the chef and his team are cooking with zeal, working toward their second star. Added to that was the truly unobtrusive but always attentive service (the chef and his chefs also enjoy the smiles as a reward). We had the wine pairing. I always choose wine pairing because only then does the restaurant have the chance to enhance the flavors of the dish with the wine. Special praise goes to the sommelier. It was a rare match. What I didn't ask was whether a non-alcoholic beverage pairing was also available. The kitchen accommodated special requests regarding a difficult food item without any problems. It was addressed without us having to remind them. I went to Regensburg because I couldn't get a table where I wanted to go. I'm very happy about that today, because otherwise I wouldn't have made this discovery.

We're compelled to come back. Update: August 28, 2025. We've already been back... ;-) The chef is on vacation and pasta is on the table in Regensburg - brilliant idea - the best pasta. And the tomato salad too - the best we've ever eaten. We're compelled to come back.

Wir sind spontan und recht spät am Abend im Roter Hahn eingekehrt – und wurden dennoch rundum verwöhnt. Das Team hat unser 5-Gang-Menü flexibel an unsere Wünsche angepasst, jeder Gang war nicht nur optisch ein Kunstwerk, sondern auch geschmacklich ein echtes Highlight. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns, wie aufmerksam Service und Küche auf unser Tempo eingegangen sind – ohne jede Hektik, immer zugewandt und mit echter Freude am Gastgebersein. Die ungezwungene, herzliche Atmosphäre und der offene Austausch mit dem Team haben den Abend perfekt gemacht. Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder!

Very nice restaurant, friendly staff, and a creative chef. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed the menu.

Last Thursday, we enjoyed a relaxed and harmonious dinner at the Roter Hahn restaurant. The menu was very well-balanced, even with the pescatarian version. The amuse-bouche were very delicious, delicate in texture and rich in flavors. The wine pairing was varied and surprising in its product, as well as charming and knowledgeable in its presentation. A highlight were the shrimp from Bavarian aquaculture. The quality of the product and the precise preparation were close to perfection. We thank the chef and his team for a magical evening in Regensburg.

We invited the family to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. The meal: An experience. Everyone, even the "Geschlecketej," was highly satisfied, even enthusiastic. The service: Attentive and unobtrusive. A successful evening. What we underestimated: The time it would take! It took several hours.

We booked a combination of an overnight stay and a fantastic multi-course menu with a couple of friends. We were absolutely thrilled: very friendly and attentive service with expert advice and a truly sensational Michelin-starred menu. Top-notch, we highly recommend it. The rooms were large, clean, and well-equipped, perfectly rounding off the weekend.

A wonderful evening in a relaxed atmosphere, with cool music from the turntable (requests can be made, provided the record is available) and very friendly service. The amuse-bouche were delicious, and then the individual courses continued. Everything was top-notch and delicious; the lamb shoulder was a bit weaker, but the "lamb on a stick" was fantastic. Everything was wonderfully seasoned and piquant – simply superb, creating a very unique signature in Michelin-starred cuisine – always exciting and surprising – highly recommended! The sommelier is also very smart – the wine pairing was also very nice.

Wir waren abends hier und hatten alle drei verschiedene Menüs, einmal 8-Gang, einmal 5-Gang, einmal 5-Gang vegetarisch mit Fisch. Es geht los mit 5 verschiedenen Snacks und da zeigt sich schon die Kreativität die sich den ganzen Abend konstant durch alle Gerichte ziehen wird. Das Essen für ein 1-Sterne Restaurant wirklich sehr aufwändig und wirklich ausgefeilt. Ich denke, hier wird auf den zweiten Stern hingearbeitet. Absolut tolle alkoholfreie Begleitung wirklich individuell auf jeden Gang abgestimmt, toll. Sehr netter Service, schöne Atmosphäre mit viel Privatsphäre, da die Tische wirklich deutlichen Abstand zueinander haben. Für einen Stern preislich recht gehoben. Lohnt sich aber auf jeden Fall.

We had our Chateaubriand again!!! First class! That's the difference! Unsurpassedly good. You can taste the star there. Asparagus and potato gratin at its finest. Accompanied by Bernaise sauce and jus!

Went to the Roter Hahn on the occasion of our wedding anniversary and it was really worth it. Professional online reservation and confirmation process. The reception in the restaurant was very friendly, the short introduction to the menu was good and professional. The entire service from start to finish was very nice and competent and, thank God, not tedious or even stuffy. Ambiance “almost everything in anthracite” but still very cozy and the lighting was also very pleasant for a restaurant. But the most important thing was the extremely interesting menu, which could be easily changed or supplemented. The taste and presentation are terrific and the stars are well deserved. Extensive wine list, also a good selection of open wines. For us it was an absolutely successful evening that we would like to repeat.

We regularly visit restaurants of this level and traveled to Regensburg for a weekend primarily to eat here. We weren't disappointed, quite the opposite. The menu was great, a wonderful variety of aromatic surprises and classic elements - perfect in terms of craftsmanship and appearance, more imaginative than many others. Very good wine accompaniment, which was also a lot of fun. Every award is deserved here and the prices are absolutely reasonable.

Tried the star cuisine there several times. Top quality, very good food, friendly advice. The ambience depends somewhat on which table you get. There is no hotel bar, so the selection of spirits is very simple. However, a classy bar is generally difficult to find in Regensburg.

Cheers! M. Schmidt Jr. has made brilliant developments in the last two years. He emancipated himself from his family traditions and his teacher and found his own way. The menu is very cleverly designed and the menu chosen is one of those that will remain in your memory for a long time. The team impresses with personality, competence, attentiveness and shows high motivation instead of just routine. Gladly again soon!

Come as you are! We preferred the jogging pants that were advertised as “also OK”, but preferred sneakers, jeans and a sweater. This meant we fit in with the various guests and felt neither underdressed nor under scrutiny. We think that this is precisely where the strength of the Red Rooster lies. If you're looking for over-strenuous service and an unnaturally stiff atmosphere, you've come to the wrong place. Already at the entrance there was an understatement (we had to search briefly). The door behind us was greeted by two employees who took our coats and brought them to the table. The atmosphere is cozy and you can tell that people work here who have high standards for themselves and their job, without having to gain importance through excessively extravagant behavior. It's nice that there are still addresses where this very own, intrinsic motivation of cuisine and service can still be felt. Here you want to impress with skill and authenticity. There are no unnecessary bells and whistles to be found. Even the subtle but effective decoration doesn't just seem to be there for the eye (colorful pickled vegetables in Rex jars). When it comes to music, you are impressed by both the appropriate volume and the diverse selection provided by the service, which regularly communicates about the next vinyl to be played on the record player. The acoustics in the guest room mean that you don't have to shout over the music or the usual background noise. The often obligatory whispering in quiet restaurants is also not necessary. So also speak as you are. The advice and support from the waitress and the sommelier were personal, attentive and low-threshold. For example, I like to drink red wine and didn't want wine to accompany every course. The Somellier took my request so well that red wine can also be served with fish and the like. could be drunk with pleasure. I'll get to the non-alcoholic beverage accompaniment later. Apart from the craftsmanship, which was unobtrusive but precise, there were authentic personalities and professionals here, but not with egos, as is unfortunately still the case in some star restaurants. The dishes were well coordinated. You can choose a la carte or from a 3, 5 or 8 course menu. The wine accompaniment can be exchanged for a non-alcoholic beverage accompaniment. This was the first surprise of the evening. Homemade juices and refined drinks that are produced in-house through complexity and technical trends such as fermentation. In addition, the ingredients have hardly traveled far - in complete contrast to the kitchen team. The amuse bouche consisted of several courses and conveyed the anticipation of epicurean journeys with all the senses. As is often the case, the dishes are served on rough glazed dishes or rustic-looking, high-rimmed plates. Looks nice, but sometimes makes hair-raising noises or makes it impossible to put the cutlery down neatly (high rim, smooth plate). But the dishes always seem to be presented with just as much complexity as their origins seem to be. The complexity wasn't overwhelming, it was explained well at the beginning of each course, but it didn't always allow a differentiated picture of the ingredients to emerge. However, each course itself was a well-rounded picture so that all taste areas benefited. You can add and replace signatures, which give the menu an individual spin. However, as guests in the upper middle range of the hunger scale who were willing to learn, choosing the "5" course was completely sufficient - especially since bread and butter came as an intermediate course. All in all, an evening that we will remember and that, given the high levels of craftsmanship, can easily cost between 200-300 euros per person. However, the pleasure in this restaurant lies above all in the fact that you can enjoy yourself as you are, with people who are who they are: authentic and interested in sharing some of their enthusiasm for culinary experiences.

We were able to celebrate New Year's Eve with you yesterday and it was incredibly good. From the very appealing wine list, to the super attentive service, to the fantastically harmonious 8 courses of the menu, everything was simply perfect. The bread with butter and acacia honey was sensational and the snacks at the front were very sophisticated. We'll definitely come back.

Beautiful evening. Of course with best friends - but also with loving, charming, unobtrusive service - not artificial or fake. And the food? ? A splendor for the eye, pure enjoyment for the palate. Small works of art - incredible. Craftsmanship at its best. And the wines? Balanced - well tempered - a perfect complement. Hats off to so much craftsmanship. Personally, the restaurant was a bit too dark for me - it was comfortable in the winter - I would prefer it to be fresher in the summer - but that doesn't detract from the performance.

Lighting conditions are not optimal, background music is sometimes too loud and the conversation is disruptive.

We were there at lunchtime and had a very nice experience. Our waitress was very pleasant, funny and the whole team was very professional. Only one waiter briefly raised question marks when he made a comment - but our waitress made up for it all. The quality and taste are of course outstanding - something you're not used to (at least not us :D). The chefs also presented the dishes - very cool! Upscale atmosphere and lots of space. When we are back in Regensburg, we would like to come in the evening. Thanks!

Top food, top service. Were there for the 4th time and were very satisfied every time. Otherwise always the safe bet Chateau briand, today an 8 course menu. 8 out of 8 courses were great! Non-alcoholic wine accompaniment is innovative and classic wine accompaniment is appropriately selected. Catered to gluten-free guests and offered equivalent alternatives. Always my pleasure! My partner and I had the pleasure of visiting your restaurant in Regensburg recently and would first like to thank you for an overall special and enriching evening. The quality of the food and drinks, the presentation and the professionalism of your team were impressive. We would particularly like to highlight the lady who brought and presented the dishes to us directly from the kitchen - her attentiveness and elegance left a lasting impression. However, there were a few moments that clouded our impression: 1. Despite an email from my side in which I ordered a five-course meal for both people, my partner received an 8-course meal. Although this was unexpected, it was not particularly problematic. What struck us unpleasantly, however, was the waiter's reaction when we asked to look at the menu to clarify the difference. 2. In the vegan menu, the first dish was unfortunately very sour, especially in combination with the non-alcoholic drink accompaniment. While the other courses in the vegan menu were very well done, I still had the impression that the classic menu was much more thought out and refined. My partner had the opportunity to try both variants and shared this impression. 3. At the end of the evening we discovered that our coats were not hanging on the coat rack, even though we had arrived early. They were instead “hidden,” giving us the feeling that we were not fully trusted. This moment was unpleasant for us and unfortunately overshadowed the otherwise beautiful evening. The food was extremely delicious and very well presented. The drinks are well tempered and of exquisite quality. The service staff was pleasantly relaxed and was always able to implement our wishes and answer our questions. We spent a very nice evening.

Not only did the dishes taste great, but you could also feel the love and care with which they were prepared. Every bite was a delight and showed how important the team is to serving only the best to their guests. A truly unique culinary experience that I can only recommend to everyone!

Anyone who has a lot of time and no allergies is in good hands here. There were three of us here in the restaurant today. Reserved 2 weeks in advance. The same day I received a call that the allergy requirements could not be met. Okay, we don't want to ruin the evening and decide to come anyway. We arrive and are greeted with the offer to choose between the terrace and the restaurant. It was great that both were reserved “for us”. There are even heated seats on the terrace. Super! Until it turned out that 3 out of 4 batteries were empty. Then it would have been better to put blankets down. As previously discussed when making the reservation (3 weeks in advance) and then accepted on the same day so as not to cancel the evening: Butter in small quantities is okay despite lactose and casein intolerance. Amouse bouche was served with yogurt espuma. Cool idea, but that says it all when it comes to allergies at Roter Hahn. A little oat milk foam would have done the trick. This is not art. The crowning moment came with the main course. A guest with gluten intolerance was served wheat gyoza. It wasn't until I pressed the question in the kitchen and it was confirmed: wheat gyoza. An absolute no-go. Thank God the guest noticed. That shouldn't happen at this level. It's dangerous. In the end, they tried hard and reduced gluten and dairy products here and there, but they didn't meet the desired level. Because of my grandmother, we opted for three and once four courses instead of the large menu. Everyone ate the same thing. Thank God we didn't take more gears. After three hours in the restaurant the third course had not yet arrived. Whether the wine list should be sorted by composer is controversial and a creative decision. But there are 2 stars instead of one for the excellent wine recommendation and the overall interesting and varied wine list.

We had an (extremely) crooked room, workers are young and most of them are unfriendly. Just a shame… Paid €165 per person for 1 dinner (5 course menu) + extra charge to get beef fillet?! One of the worst hotels we have ever vacationed in.

Une très belle découverte que ce petit restaurant étoilé un cœur de la vieille ville de Ratisbonne. L’équipe de salle est jeune et efficace. La salle elle même est minimaliste, peinte en noir. Une originalité, la musique est diffusée sur des vinyles 33 tours au son absolument parfait. Passons aux choses sérieuses. Un déjeuner en 4 services pour 85 euros. Le plaisir est immédiat avec l’amuse bouche. C’est fin, délicat avec des touches acidulées. Ces touches sont apparemment la signature du chef car elles reviendront tout au long du repas, de l’entrée au dessert. Les portions sont telles qu’attendues. Ni trop, ni trop peu. Les présentations sont élégantes et les goûts sont marqués. C’est véritablement de la grande cuisine. Mention spéciale à la queue de cochon, il fallait oser. La vaisselle est moderne mais le point fort sont les verres à vin. D’une finesse et d’une qualité rarement vue. La carte des vins est très très riche, peut être trop car on s’y perd. Un grand bravo et merci à toute l’équipe pour ce bon moment.

There were four of us on the occasion of our daughter's graduation ceremony. Went to the Roter Hahn for the second time this year. Overall a wonderful evening with very small restrictions. Food was great, intolerances were taken into account. Special requests catered for. We all had the menu, twice with great wine accompaniment, the advice was excellent and the service was casual and pleasant. Maybe too casual for some in the Michelin-starred kitchen, but it suited us. The menu is a bit bland and reading the menu online might lead you to choose a different restaurant. But it was explained very well and everything was high class. Regarding the small restrictions: - we sat in the “entry path” to the kitchen, not a problem in itself, but the place was also very hot, which was a bit uncomfortable. A little air turbulence could help here. -Second point was the extreme breaks between courses, which meant we were there from 7 p.m. until almost 1 a.m. I think the timing should be such that it's not too fast, I think 5 hours max would be appropriate. As I said, little things and more hints than criticism. Paid a total of around €1200, but it was worth it to us.

After good experiences with lunch at the Roter Hahn, we were finally able to eat there in the evening. Since we were already late (8 p.m.), we opted for the 5-course menu with wine accompaniment. We were thrilled with Maximilian's cuisine (especially sauces!) and the nice and perfect service. We really like the ambience of the restaurant anyway. The Red Rooster is one of our top three (along with Landhaus Bacher in Mautern and Jan in Munich).

Great meal, great menu items. Imaginative and the wine pairings were great with a good story for each. Spendy but worth it! Highly recommend.

We were there on my birthday and more than enjoyed the evening. Even the aperitif recommendation was great and every course exceeded our expectations. Simply amazing how creative flavor explosions can be created from “normal” ingredients. Plus the calm accompaniment throughout the evening including the musical arrangement using a record player.

A stylish place in the beautiful old town of Regensburg. We received a very warm welcome with our 4 and 6 year old children. We always had the impression that we were welcome, so we were able to enjoy the great 3-course lunch menu. The food was seasonal, creative, beautifully presented and delicious. The vegetarian menu was also great and was in no way inferior to the fish menu. Plus exciting non-alcoholic drinks, which is a great art for us. There was very tasty child-friendly food for the children. The family-friendliness of the restaurant is lived here in a relaxed manner. An absolute recommendation! The price range of 90-100 euros refers to the adults; for the children we paid around 40 euros for the main course, dessert and drinks.

Stylish ambience. Pleasant table spacing. Friendly and competent service. The lunch menu was excellent and had many surprising flavor components. The appearance of the dishes was very appealing. Matching wine accompaniment. We'll definitely be back - then for the evening menu. Recommended gourmet restaurant. A reservation is advisable. Cashless payment is possible. You should find a parking space in the parking garages in the area - e.g. B. in the underground car park at the theater.

We were at the Roter Hahn with four people on a Wednesday because we read on a board in front of the restaurant that Wednesday is schnitzel day. We were greeted politely, our coats were taken from us and we were shown to the table. The drinks, beer and a bottle of Cremant, were ordered. In addition, the service filled a glass of water for each of us. We were offered the menu and took a look. It took three quarters of an hour before we could order the food. Since the advertised schnitzel could not be found on the menu, we asked. Potato salad is served as a side dish with the schnitzel. Since we didn't all want the same thing, we changed the order to fries or mixed salad for two dishes. When we asked if we would also like a starter and dessert, we declined. The meal started with a very fine amuse gueule. Excellent in taste. The schnitzels were then served. The meat tasted good and was tender. Unfortunately, the breading was the standard breadcrumbs from the wholesaler and the fries were ready-made frozen goods. At least I was hoping that these were homemade. We were repeatedly given more Cremant and water. Very attentive staff. After dinner we ordered espresso and asked for the bill. The employee asked if we would wait a little longer as the kitchen was preparing a sorbet and a praline as a treat for us. We were happy, even though we were no longer hungry. When we received the bill, we discovered that the reordering of the side dishes had increased the schnitzel price from 35 euros by another 5-7 euros. We were also charged for the water and sorbet that we did not order. Because it was still a very nice evening, we didn't complain about this when paying.

My daughter surprised me with an invitation to this star restaurant. The reception was very friendly, so I felt very comfortable there in the extremely pleasant atmosphere. We chose the 5-course menu. Starting with the starters: a feast for the eyes and a taste explosion in the mouth. We were recommended a champagne rose as an aperitif, which went perfectly with it. About the individual courses: The preparation was explained to us, including the origin. Every course: a dream. I enjoyed every course. The petit fours: the crowning glory. We were in this star restaurant for 4 hours. The heavenly food, the friendly and very attentive service more than deserve this star. My expectations were exceeded...

First-class cuisine, great taste and great service. A menu at the Roter Hahn is always worth the money. Simply magnificent. Of course that has its price. The explanation of the food was always good. The only thing that, in my opinion, causes a deduction is the darkness in the restaurant. You have to make an effort to recognize the food. Still, it was great.

Bei einem Sterne-Restaurant sind die Erwartungen nicht gering, sie wurden in jeglicher Hinsicht erfüllt. Schon die Snacks vorneweg waren großartig und in der gleichen Weise ging es weiter. Hinzu kam ein Service, der so gut und angenehm war, wie man es heute nur noch selten erlebt. Sollte dies alles euphorisch klingen: wir waren nach diesem Erlebnis euphorisch.

An amazing place for relaxed fine dining. The atmosphere was, for me personally, surprisingly laid back, which I liked. The staff fulfilled all our wishes, including presenting the food in english - even though we had forgotten to note this request in our reservation form. At times, waiters reached over me/over my plate to hand the plate to the person sitting next to me - this is something I find shouldn’t happen at such a place/price. The food was very interesting, the presentation was very good. There seemed to be an acidic note in most courses, which made the whole meal much less balanced than I would have expected and wanted. All in all we enjoyed our visit thoroughly and will definitely be back!

The "Experience Dinner" was a very delicious experience. The menu featured 8 courses plus 4 free additions, each a masterpiece of the kitchen crew combined with perfect service. The dining room is styled in dark colors with some golden highlights. A fitting but not perfect styling. Thanks for the awesome evening and keep up the good work.

I was lucky enough to be able to celebrate my birthday at the Roter Hahn. I was very excited in advance because the restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the warm and courteous staff. I had reserved a table in the cozy interior, which was furnished with great attention to detail. The atmosphere was pleasant and not too loud, so you could have a quiet conversation. The menu offers a selection of creative and sophisticated dishes prepared with local ingredients. I chose a la card with starter, main course and dessert and was not disappointed. The individual courses were perfectly coordinated and tasted simply delicious. I would particularly like to highlight the Chateaubriand, which was buttery tender, perfectly cooked and very rich. The pear quince dessert was also a poem. At the end of the evening I had the opportunity to meet the chef personally. He took the time to explain some details about the dishes to me. I can fully recommend the Roter Hahn restaurant. It is a place where you can spend an unforgettable evening.

To put it briefly: A perfect evening! :-) The 8-course menu with wine pairing was a highlight. Seasonal ingredients (e.g. plum, peach, pumpkin, carp) can be found in almost all courses and combine to create interesting compositions. The sommelier finds wines that complement the dishes. Some wines seem very dominant, clumsy or incomplete without the food, but when combined with the food they become a perfect accompaniment and fit in perfectly. The service explains the dishes very well and can answer questions skillfully. Everyone takes time for questions and conversations, especially the chef at the end of the evening. The food had some Japanese influences (e.g. Chawanmushi, Xo) as well as regional Upper Palatinate products (e.g. carp, pork tails, Schornbladl) and experimented with different types of pepper. A varied and successful evening!

Nice restaurant in a very good location. The staff is super friendly and always attentive. We found the background music a bit too intrusive and the style a bit too rocky for a cozy evening. We ate very well, only one small thing should be noted: the fillet was not served warm, it was unfortunately a bit cold, but still tasted very good. We can highly recommend the Red Rooster. Mega wedding anniversary dinner in a great location! Taste explosion on the palate - amazing, unique creations with brilliant wine accompaniment! Staff very friendly and accommodating - every menu course with wine was explained and was perfect 👌 Even the boss came to the table several times and sought contact with the guests!! Es war ein Traum, das Essen ist genial durchdacht und raffiniert zusammengestellt. Zudem noch sehr regional. Es machte richtig Spaß das Menü zu genießen !
