Restaurant Mogogo in Karlsruhe

The first impression when you come in is of a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and nice and warm. The tables are a little narrow so the space can sometimes feel cramped. There were two of us and we both had a vegetarian dish. We both enjoyed it very much and the portion was big enough. The service was very friendly, but you had to be patient because the food took a while. It is definitely advisable to reserve a table because the restaurant was full. Definitely recommended for a cozy evening with interesting food.

Three days ago I was at Mogogo with my sisters. I had reserved the table days in advance. The atmosphere is nice but a bit cramped. We were there at 6:15 p.m. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time before we could order and it was easily an hour before the food arrived. Only when we asked did we find out that the reason for the delay was a larger group that had to be served first. They seemed a bit overwhelmed. The service was friendly. We ordered a plate of injera sourdough flatbreads with lots of different things on them. It was very helpful that the waitress explained to us exactly what was on it: vegetables, different types of meat, lentils, fish... and we were given more injera. What irritated us was the offer of kangaroo meat - these animals are found in Australia etc and not in Africa?! The food tasted good and was partly hot and spicy. It seemed like there was the same sauce almost everywhere. When we asked for the menu so we could choose a dessert, we were told that we should move to another table so that a group of 5 people could sit at that table. We were shocked and surprised and almost wanted to leave. We felt treated rudely; We were not asked if we were ready to move. I'm glad that we moved and were able to eat a very tasty meal: dessert (dough threads) with an ice cream ball. This dessert lifted our spirits again. It was really very tasty.

Absolutely spectacular, beautiful place, it makes you feel like you are in Eritrea, the smiling staff exudes positive energy, smiling, very kind... the dishes then, delicious, spectacular quality, exquisite flavours, a very pleasant discovery for what I undoubtedly consider the best restaurant in Karlsruhe at 360°. Book because it's always full, you won't regret it! The space kangaroo meat, delicious lentil sauce, excellent dessert!

We had a wonderful experience the other evening in this restaurant immersed in the African atmosphere. Although it is not an immense room, the environment is furnished with good taste, the hospitality of the owners is unparalleled, always smiling and making us feel very at ease. The menu has a good offer of typical Eritrean dishes, including beer, with excellent quality products. We took a plate to share for two people with different types of meat and vegetables to consume with the Fladen Brot and we were totally surprised by the explosion of unique flavors. An experience to absolutely relive, we will gladly return until we try the whole menu 😁😍 congratulations to all the staff, especially the waiters ❤️

I had Zigni Bera, spicy beef with lentils and kale (in normal spiciness, you can have more if you wish) and it was really delicious.

Best Eritrean food in all of Germany. Mogogo made us interested in Eritrean gastronomy and we tried Eritrean food in many cities. Mogogo is simply in a completely different league.

My favorite Eritrean restaurant in Karlsruhe. The veggie plate for two is great to share if you are together with someone. The okras and tofu are my favorite dishes here. They also serve beer in a dried coconut shell, a fun way to drink beer. The mango beer is delicious. The desserts are also so different from what you usually see outside and are an excellent combination of warm pastry and ice cream.

I was told the food was authentic, but nowhere near the original African spiciness! I was completely satisfied. Eating with your fingers tastes better and the African beer was delicious 👍. We had the Mogogo platter once, the food came and a man explained the different types of meat. Reservation is definitely recommended. Price-performance ratio good.

The ambience and service were very good, the food (vegan and meat) was delicious and the portions were sufficient. Ideal with dessert. The cocktail was really tasty. The spiciness of the food should and can be communicated. As requested, my dish was very mild, but still well seasoned. For me, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Reservation recommended as it is very busy.

We had dinner with an African. Here for the first time! He described the food as authentic, but nowhere near the original African spiciness! But ordered spicy and it was poor, therefore only 4 stars! Otherwise we were completely satisfied. We declined the offer to eat with our fingers. The food was good and the African beer was delicious 👍. We once had the Mogogo platter (No. 21) (this was put together a bit carelessly and put on the table without explanation. Later a young man came and explained the different types of meat. Would have made more sense at the beginning👎) and once Couscous special (No .34) which was very good Reservation is definitely recommended. Price-performance ratio good. Conditionally recommended

My husband and I have been loyal Mogogo customers for several years and we have never been disappointed. Since the first day we've been here, they've always welcomed us very warmly and they always try to give us a seat, even though the store is always very full and we almost always went spontaneously (without making a reservation in advance). The quality of the food is always equally good and you don't have to say much about the taste, very tasty and authentic! The food always arrives on the table beautifully decorated and fresh. We will definitely come back to eat here again and again. Delicious African food. Great beer with exotic tastes like mango, banana, and coconut. The ambience is comfortably decorated with lots of pictures and artwork. Most importantly, the employees are very friendly and nice. What would be better is that the ambient song from Africa can be played.

The food at Mogogo was a real feast! Both the starter soup (spicy vegetable soup with chickpeas, celery, pieces of beef) and my main course (vegetarian food: potato flatbread with lentil curry, vegetables and potatoes in spicy sauce) were incredibly tasty! The portion size is very good and the price is definitely reasonable. The service was great, but also very entertaining, warm and super personable (we laughed a lot with the owner)! Only the cleanliness in the store itself was not optimal. It urgently needs to be dusted. The shop was very busy, with people constantly queuing up to get a table. Highly Recommended!

We ate here with friends a few weeks ago based on the good reviews. What can you say, the good reviews don't lie. We all thought the food was great and had never had any real experience with African food before. We'll definitely come back. The only point of criticism from me is that the portions are huge for the price. be a little too small. But I also have to say that I had a great appetite and the quantities were right for the others.

We regularly eat 1-3 times a month on site or pick up from Mogogo. The food tastes great, it's always a treat. We have tasted a variety of dishes over the years and I have to say, everything was really delicious. We always go home with a full stomach and an empty plate. The restaurant is family run, the atmosphere is welcoming, fun and warm. I can't understand negative reviews in any way. As a little tip: It would be better if you reserved a table instead of just dropping by at random. The restaurant is so busy that you really have to be lucky to get a table. We've eaten here a few times and have always been impressed. Very tasty and just something different! Great vegetarian dishes.

I've been there at least three times now with my whole family and/or guests (groups of 5-9 people) and I'm happy every time we eat there. The food is super tasty and seems very authentic to me (not Eritrean). When you order a plate (which I can only recommend), it can sometimes be a little confusing, so it's difficult to tell what's what. You just need courage and after the first bite you know which "heap" is which. In addition, the plates are always symmetrical and pretty beautifully prepared. You can eat with your fingers, which is always a lot of fun for everyone, but you can also get cutlery if you ask. If you're there for the first time and look confused, the waitress will also instruct you on the best way to eat with your fingers. Speaking of the service: really, really nice people. Even though we only eat there at least six months apart, we are recognized and welcomed in a friendly manner. The people are always super friendly and joke with us every now and then. You can also have them explain everything to you ("What's in there?", "How hot is that?") and they're always smiling at you. The facility is great, although it's quite cramped and probably not really wheelchair accessible, but they've squeezed everything you can out of the one floor. Why “only” 4 stars? You really have to take several hours to eat. The kitchen takes a relatively long time, especially when there are a lot of people there. Furthermore, the matter is quite expensive, which can be considered more or less justified, but you should definitely be aware of it. Finally, there are often delivery problems with the more unusual drinks (for example coconut beer), so we have only been able to try them once so far. Apart from these three little things everything is perfect. I can only recommend the restaurant, it's really worth a try!

Very friendly and courteous service, but it was a shame that no attention was paid to whether the drinks were empty or whether there was no request for a bedside table. The food was very good, but a bit too confusing for me personally. The ambience of course fits well with the theme and the cuisine on offer, but unfortunately it is a bit outdated and could perhaps be updated a bit.

So, everyone who knows me knows that I don't hate food or even have high standards when it comes to food. What works: Atmosphere appealing, service and service very friendly. We had a large Africa salad. Absolutely standard. The canned tuna and I suspect the salad oil was simply the oil from the canned fish. Salad a bit mushy. Then EXTRA the Mogogo plate for 2 people was chosen to test everything the house offers. A fiasco. Carelessly slapped onto a colorful plate. Note the 2 eggs. You couldn't tell which type of meat was where. Fish is also said to have been there. Partly cold and the meat was stringy and tough. I can't figure out how this restaurant got this rating profile. And for everyone who now says, taste is individual. If I were to offer these dishes “anonymously” in a canteen, the chef would have to accept termination the next day. Terrible and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with delicious food.

It was great, if you don't like spicy food you can also order it that way. There are also platters with various dishes for 2-8 people. And for us Germans there is of course cutlery, although we ate with flatbreads and fingers, as befits our status. Unfortunately, there was no African beer left. So we have to go again

The food is incredibly tasty. And let's be honest, it's also fun to eat with your hands :-) of course there's also cutlery if you want. The service and owners are really friendly and warm, the good mood is contagious. The atmosphere seems totally relaxed, there is no rush and there is a lot to discover because the rooms offer so much. I always like to come back.

It’s a must go when in Karlsruhe! The food is impeccable, the servers are always enthusiastic, and the place is cutely decorated. Perfect for nights out, make sure to reserve before going because they tend to get extremely full. The only downside would be that it takes up to an hour to get our food, especially on the weekends.

Mogogo is an Eritrean restaurant and it turned out that the food quality is very good. Then have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes with a good range of choices. With one of the vegetarian dishes we had, one component with green cabbage was oustanding in its taste.

Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsresaurants in Karlsruhe.

Die Speisekarte bietet für jeden Geschmack etwas und erfreulich, dass es auch eine Auswahl an Gerichten für Veganer oder Vegetarier gibt. Das Restaurant erfreut sich hoher Beliebtheit und Reservierung ist empfohlen. Es besteht schon seit 1988. Die Preise sind gut. Komme auf jeden Fall wieder. Man fühlt sich wohl und willkommen.

Hier komm ich auf jeden Fall wieder hin! Der Service war sehr sympathisch. Die Speisekarte wirkt authentisch (Schnitzel sucht man hier zum Glück vergeblich). Ich hatte eine vegane Platte, die ich mir geteilt habe. Zu zweit sind wir sehr satt geworden und fanden jede Komponente richtig lecker. Den Schärfegrad konnten wir selbst bestimmen. Auch das Ambiente lädt ein, länger zu verweilen. Wir hatten Glück, einen Tisch zu bekommen. Eine Reservierung ist also ratsam. Alles in allem 5 Sternchen. Ich freu mich auf den nächsten Besuch ☺️

Das Restaurant hat einfach das beste Essen in ganz Karlsruhe. Die Mitarbeiter sind immer super freundlich und ich fühle mich dort sehr wohl. Vor allem ist es eines der wenigen nicht veganen Restaurants wo es richtige vegane und gekennzeichnete Speisen gibt, daher verdient es alle Sterne die man geben kann!

Einfach der Hammer ! das Essen war einfach richtig lecker und eine einzige Portion ist groß genug für 2 Personen. Vor allem die Ambiente ist wirklich sehr gut gelungen. Das Personal war mehr als nur freundlich. Mein einziges Bedenken ist die Toilettentür auf der Männer Toilette, denn man kann sie nicht ganz schließen da sie fest hängt. Ka ob man das mit schleifen oder so beheben kann aber sonst war alles super. Wenn man Lust auf leckeres und authentisches Essen hat ist das Restaurant Mogogo der richtige Ort !

Macht von außen erstmal nicht viel her, dafür verbirgt sich im inneren eine gastronomische Perle. Super leckeres Essen, sehr freundliches Personal und gemütliches Ambiente. In jeder Hinsicht empfehlenswert. Man sollte aber reservieren, denn das Mogogo ist aus gutem Grund oft sehr gut besucht.

Seit Jahrzehnten geniesse ich das Essen und die familiäre Atmosphäre dort. Nun arbeitet die nächste Generation mit und toppt die Freundlichkeit und Menschlichkeit auf wunderbare Weise. Mein Favorit ist das vegetarische Essen mit verschiedenen Gemüsesorten und Soßen auf Ingera-Sauerteigfladen. Hier kann ich auch nach einer großen Radtour herkommen, man hat mich noch nie hungrig nach Hause gehen lassen :). Am liebsten kommen wir in der Gruppe und bestellen das Essen auf einer großen Platte, die wir uns alle teilen. Gegessen wird dann mit den Händen (wer mag). Ein tolles Gruppenerlebnis. Ein großes Dankeschön an die ganze Mogogo-Familie!
