Delicious food & great atmosphere We ate at Mogogo Restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was incredibly tasty, freshly prepared, and perfectly balanced. The portions were more than generous, and the value for money was excellent. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming; you immediately feel at ease. The restaurant's atmosphere is also very pleasant, inviting you to relax and enjoy your meal. I highly recommend the Mogogo Special Platter, Soup No. 6, and Dessert No. 47. A restaurant you'll definitely want to return to.

I felt very comfortable here, everything was unique, everything was freshly prepared, and trying something new was fantastic. My starter, a vegetable soup, was delicious, followed by a huge portion of main course. Finally, I had an espresso – the best ever! The service was very friendly, and even though it was my first time there, we'll definitely be back.

It was so delicious that our group ate there two nights in a row. As a vegan, I was very well catered for; the service was fantastic, and the food was just as good, all at more than fair prices. If we're ever in Karlsruhe again, we'll definitely come back.

I went to the Mogogo restaurant and I'm giving it 3 stars. The food was served differently than expected and looked really great – the presentation was a real highlight. However, the taste was quite ordinary. Nothing you couldn't get elsewhere or even cook yourself. Overall, it was an interesting experience because of the presentation, but the food itself lacked any real wow factor.

The food was amazing! I'd definitely recommend calling ahead on a Friday evening for a reservation. We'd also called about gluten free options; the flatbread can be substituted with millet (hirse). Many of the dishes should be safe for gluten sensitivity (not sure about celiac-friendly, as that's not something I can judge). The service was excellent and the platters will really diverse and well-explained.

It was incredibly delicious. I ordered a vegetarian dish (number 22), and they also served me lentils because (to quote the waiter): "people come mainly for the lentils." We were served quickly and extremely courteously by the charismatic waiter. The interior is beautifully and cozily decorated, and the noise level is pleasant. The Gezana beer is also very tasty! 10/10. I'll be back soon. - Definitely make a reservation!

Really good food and friendly environment. Gets very hot inside in the summer, so try to get an outside table or close to a window. Exotic flavors, and some of the best service in the entire city!

A very charming Eritrean restaurant with a great selection and excellent food. The service was consistently friendly, and the decor was harmonious. However, what I still can't wrap my head around is—why on earth are there several dishes with kangaroo meat in an African restaurant?! We didn't try any, since kangaroo tastes pretty much like chicken and rabbit, and there was also plenty of lamb and beef, but it's still bothering me. I should have asked... P.S.: Since we've been talking a lot about meat—vegetarians (and vegans too) will find plenty of options here, and they're really delicious as well.

First of all: Which restaurant has been around in Karlsruhe for an incredible 37 years? That's right – Mogogo! I was already there in the early days of Mogogo (Kaiserpassage in Karlsruhe) – and even back then it was delicious! More than 30 years later, I can only say that the food hasn't lost any of its quality or quantity! If you like to eat healthy, high-fiber food, this is the place for you. They don't serve pork, but they do offer delicious beef, lamb, or chicken. Plus plenty of legumes, cabbage, salad, and their legendary flatbread. Tip: You absolutely MUST try the dessert with ice cream! You can (but don't have to) eat with your hands – which can be quite fun 😊 Mogogo is a family-run business, and every guest is welcomed so politely and warmly, as if they were part of the family. We didn't know that you usually can't get a table without a reservation. There's no way to get a table without one. They magically conjured up a table for two for us so we could stay. Amazing! The ambiance is designed to make you feel like you're on vacation – simply wonderful. The only downside was the room temperature, which was (at least for me) too cool, despite the restaurant being full. In short: A must-visit in Karlsruhe – both for the food and the people. Many other restaurateurs could learn a thing or two about friendliness from them.

In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Karlsruhe. Whenever I take someone there, they're always equally enthusiastic. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even recognize you if you only come once or twice a year. The food is simply the best you can get in Karlsruhe. If I had more money, I'd eat there at least once a week.

Super friendly waiters, excellent food, and a very cozy interior. The portions are very generously sized, and you can feel the love for the food in every bite. Our very friendly waiter explained to us how to eat the dishes traditionally, which made the experience more immersive. The prices are also perfectly reasonable (around €25 for a meal and a drink) and extremely fair considering the service. There are also delicious dishes for vegetarians. If you've been to Karlsruhe and haven't eaten here, you'll regret it. To the Mogogo team, keep up the good work!

One of the best Eritrean restaurants. And having been to places all around the world, I mean worldwide. Of course the service is not always 100% as it is a family owned, low staff restaurant. But the food is unbeatable...since 1988. Always a delight!!!

The atmosphere at Mogogo is unique, and anyone tempted to visit by the countless excellent reviews on Google will certainly not be disappointed, despite their high expectations. The service is very warm, the food delicious, and the ambiance extremely cozy. I recommend the vegetarian platter for two (or more people). Eating from the same plate with your hands creates a very sociable atmosphere, and the whole thing is, of course, incredibly delicious. A visit to Mogogo lets you literally sink into the cozy atmosphere and simply have a wonderful time. I definitely recommend it for a relaxing evening!

The food is truly incredibly delicious and the staff is very friendly! Since you eat the dishes entirely with your hands, it's a different experience. That's why I always enjoy coming back. The ambiance is nice, even if it's a bit dated. This makes it feel a bit less clean. The staff is very friendly, even if they sometimes take a little longer. The last few times they've always been out of at least one of the special African beers, which was a shame. But all in all, these minor issues are more than made up for by the unbeatable food!

We were a group of 7 people for dinner. The service was friendly, it was also cozy. The food was very nice as well. They did have Kangaroo meat which was a new experience to all of us.

People just go, it just requires some enjoyment of new things but I just found it delicious. Wonderful from starter to dessert. The whole thing was a bit tight and very warm but it deserved the stars.

Cohesive atmosphere, very nice order taking by the boss & very, very tasty and well-seasoned food. Unfortunately, after this was served, the service no longer took care of us: the injera we ordered was not delivered, at some point our group of 10 was left high and dry and somehow there was no real opportunity for us to make requests for desserts. It's actually a shame about the lost sales, isn't it?

Very nice African ambience in the Mogogo restaurant...everything is harmonious here, from the very friendly staff who create a family atmosphere, to the wonderful food and the traditional beer, everything is perfect...the prices are completely appropriate and there is a wide range of options for vegetarians .. if you value meat more, you'll get your money's worth... The first impression when you come in is of a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and nice and warm. The tables are a little narrow so the space can sometimes feel cramped. There were two of us and we both had a vegetarian dish. We both enjoyed it very much and the portion was big enough. The service was very friendly, but you had to be patient because the food took a while. It is definitely advisable to reserve a table because the restaurant was full. Definitely recommended for a cozy evening with interesting food.

Three days ago I was at Mogogo with my sisters. I had reserved the table days in advance. The atmosphere is nice but a bit cramped. We were there at 6:15 p.m. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time before we could order and it was easily an hour before the food arrived. Only when we asked did we find out that the reason for the delay was a larger group that had to be served first. They seemed a bit overwhelmed. The service was friendly. We ordered a plate of injera sourdough flatbreads with lots of different things on them. It was very helpful that the waitress explained to us exactly what was on it: vegetables, different types of meat, lentils, fish... and we were given more injera. What irritated us was the offer of kangaroo meat - these animals are found in Australia etc and not in Africa?! The food tasted good and was partly hot and spicy. It seemed like there was the same sauce almost everywhere. When we asked for the menu so we could choose a dessert, we were told that we should move to another table so that a group of 5 people could sit at that table. We were shocked and surprised and almost wanted to leave. We felt treated rudely; We were not asked if we were ready to move. I'm glad that we moved and were able to eat a very tasty meal: dessert (dough threads) with an ice cream ball. This dessert lifted our spirits again. It was really very tasty.

Absolutely spectacular, beautiful place, it makes you feel like you are in Eritrea, the smiling staff exudes positive energy, smiling, very kind... the dishes then, delicious, spectacular quality, exquisite flavours, a very pleasant discovery for what I undoubtedly consider the best restaurant in Karlsruhe at 360°. Book because it's always full, you won't regret it! The space kangaroo meat, delicious lentil sauce, excellent dessert!

We had a wonderful experience the other evening in this restaurant immersed in the African atmosphere. Although it is not an immense room, the environment is furnished with good taste, the hospitality of the owners is unparalleled, always smiling and making us feel very at ease. The menu has a good offer of typical Eritrean dishes, including beer, with excellent quality products. We took a plate to share for two people with different types of meat and vegetables to consume with the Fladen Brot and we were totally surprised by the explosion of unique flavors. An experience to absolutely relive, we will gladly return until we try the whole menu 😁😍 congratulations to all the staff, especially the waiters ❤️

My favorite Eritrean restaurant in Karlsruhe. The veggie plate for two is great to share if you are together with someone. The okras and tofu are my favorite dishes here. They also serve beer in a dried coconut shell, a fun way to drink beer. The mango beer is delicious. The desserts are also so different from what you usually see outside and are an excellent combination of warm pastry and ice cream.

I was told the food was authentic, but nowhere near the original African spiciness! I was completely satisfied. Eating with your fingers tastes better and the African beer was delicious 👍. We had the Mogogo platter once, the food came and a man explained the different types of meat. Reservation is definitely recommended. Price-performance ratio good.

The spiciness of the food should and can be communicated. As requested, my dish was very mild, but still well seasoned. For me, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We once had the Mogogo platter (No. 21) (this was put together a bit carelessly and put on the table without explanation. Later a young man came and explained the different types of meat. My husband and I have been loyal Mogogo customers for several years and we have never been disappointed. Since the first day we've been here, they've always welcomed us very warmly and they always try to give us a seat, even though the store is always very full and we almost always went spontaneously (without making a reservation in advance). The quality of the food is always equally good and you don't have to say much about the taste, very tasty and authentic! The food always arrives on the table beautifully decorated and fresh. We will definitely come back to eat here again and again. Delicious African food. Great beer with exotic tastes like mango, banana, and coconut. The ambience is comfortably decorated with lots of pictures and artwork. Most importantly, the employees are very friendly and nice. What would be better is that the ambient song from Africa can be played.

The food at Mogogo was a real feast! Both the starter soup (spicy vegetable soup with chickpeas, celery, pieces of beef) and my main course (vegetarian food: potato flatbread with lentil curry, vegetables and potatoes in spicy sauce) were incredibly tasty! The portion size is very good and the price is definitely reasonable. The service was great, but also very entertaining, warm and super personable (we laughed a lot with the owner)! Only the cleanliness in the store itself was not optimal. It urgently needs to be dusted. The shop was very busy, with people constantly queuing up to get a table. Highly Recommended!

We ate here with friends a few weeks ago based on the good reviews. What can you say, the good reviews don't lie. We all thought the food was great and had never had any real experience with African food before. We'll definitely come back. The only point of criticism from me is that the portions are huge for the price. be a little too small. But I also have to say that I had a great appetite and the quantities were right for the others.

We regularly eat 1-3 times a month on site or pick up from Mogogo. The food tastes great, it's always a treat. We have tasted a variety of dishes over the years and I have to say, everything was really delicious. We always go home with a full stomach and an empty plate. The restaurant is family run, the atmosphere is welcoming, fun and warm. I can't understand negative reviews in any way. As a little tip: It would be better if you reserved a table instead of just dropping by at random. The restaurant is so busy that you really have to be lucky to get a table.
