Restaurant JWD in Kassel

I pushed myself beyond my limits here. Frog legs, snails, and algae. Great restaurant, very friendly, attentive waiters.

Yesterday we had another wonderful evening with delicious food and freshly tapped beer at the JWD!

A fantastic place, with service as iconic as the restaurant itself. Lovely rustic ambiance. And as a treat, homemade licorice liqueur 🥰

It's always nice to visit a well-run pub in my old hometown with extremely friendly service, good, hearty food, and ample gaming options, both at the pool table and for many board and parlor games. Not to mention the lovely beer garden near the "Fulle" (a beer garden). I love it 🤗

Were there yesterday, service was very disrespectful and unfriendly, an alcohol celebration cocktail should cost 9.90 € which is an extortionate price, service was not able to give change

We eat there regularly. The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is totally relaxed, and the staff is super friendly. Highly recommended – and I'd love to have the recipe for the rum balls!

TOP! We've been coming here for years; the rum balls are outstanding! Everything's homemade, not fast food! The food is cooked with passion and freshly prepared. We even come here regularly from Hamburg; the best restaurant in Kassel!

Food was very tasty. The service was friendly and accommodating. I would describe the atmosphere as rustic and special, but designed with a lot of love. There is also a beer garden outside. The parking situation is rather difficult. It's best to travel by bike if possible.

Went there on a recommendation. Five of us had a drink and something to eat there. Reception cool and relaxed. Pub really well furnished with a lot of attention to detail. Unfortunately, the food was not satisfactory. Everyone had schnitzel, unfortunately totally dry and slightly burnt. Side dishes are probably only frozen goods due to space constraints. The cook totally exposed the kitchen assistant in front of the customer. This should be urgently reconsidered, it seemed as if she spoke poor German and therefore didn't understand everything that needed to be done (the communication was in English). Even we said it was okay... absolute nonsense in front of guests. Ines, the waitress, apologized again. The back area is great, slightly hidden. There is a pool table and a pinball machine, and smoking is also permitted in this area. There is also a beer garden outside for regular guests in the summer. Great location as a pub. The slogan “only cash is accepted” should perhaps be reconsidered. You don't get a receipt either, just a handout of what you've eaten. Because of this Food 1 star Service 3 stars Ambience 5+ stars

We were a group of 12 people and we all loved the place. It's fantastic that such a quaint restaurant still exists; you immediately feel very comfortable and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff is great, the service and the kitchen were unique, it's nice that something like this still exists. If we come to Kassel again we will definitely go to the JWD again. Great food and an excellent selection of drinks. Top friendly staff and a really great atmosphere. Pinball and billiards are also there. It was fun to be here.

We discovered the quaint pub by chance and were absolutely thrilled. 2x food, >2 beers 🍻, ambience, service - all great cinema. If there's anything to complain about at all, it's perhaps that "there's only cash truth" there. Plastic money (and Bitcoins 🤑) are frowned upon. No broken legs!!

We had dinner at JWD on Saturday evening and it was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is very original, with great attention to detail. You can tell they put love and passion into it. The same goes for food. Not only is there a lot to choose from, but everything is delicious and the portions are generous. The beer selection is also excellent. The reception was also fantastic. You simply feel at home here. It is a typical place where you want to come back every evening. We also had the opportunity to meet and chat to other customers, a wonderful couple. Time flew by. A shop where time seems to have stood still, passionately run with all your heart. Kitschy in detail and yet furnished with a lot of love, you feel like you have been transported back to the past 70s/80s. This kind of gastronomy blows your mind or you can't do anything with it. A rustic, good kitchen, in keeping with the overall concept, paired with very nice and attentive service. The JWD is a gastronomic gem (of the unfortunately dying kind) that the Unterneustadt can (should) be proud!

A very cozy and rustic atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, and I really enjoyed the food. Everything is still made from scratch here, and you can taste it! Everyone will find something they like here, from vegans to meat lovers. And requests are also catered for. Please note: cash is king here.

We discovered the restaurant by chance on Google Maps during our short vacation in Kassel. We weren't that impressed with the (inner) city until we spent our evening in the JWD. Super warm and great team. The food was delicious and the location had a few surprises in store. We were looked after really well. Many thanks to you and all the best!

An old-style pub/restaurant. Super delicious food, really nice service and just a lot of cool details hidden in the room. And if you still use Winamp for 80 years of music today, that's awesome 😄 We had pizza and two different schnitzel dishes. The Höllen Schnitzel is really spicy 😉 all dishes were very tasty. The beer selection is also very good and mixing an Altbier with rum fruits was a really cool idea. At the end there was delicious licorice and lime schnapps. There’s even a small puzzle for each of the children. Price/performance was well balanced. Absolutely worth a visit 👍🏻 Important, no card payment possible!

As soon as you enter the restaurant you are transported back in time. The choice of food is very large and there is something for everyone. Which also applies to the choice of drinks. It's definitely not the last time I've been there.

It's been a long time since we've eaten at JWD again...my tomato salad was delicious as ever. Unfortunately, the Altbierbowle has a slightly different taste. I don't know whether the berries were pickled for too short a time or the juice from them was missing. Florentine schnitzel is also a little different than it was three years ago. Great baked with cheese but I call it the mushroom onion topping today was a little drier than usual in the past few years. World class fried potatoes, as always, I've rarely eaten better ones and we don't need to talk about the rum balls... soooo sooo good mhhh. Did I already mention the tomato salad which my companion ate with great pleasure even though he prefers sour cream dressing. :-) Big praise from him too. You do it like my mother did, it brings back childhood memories for me. The beer selection is great. You don't often get crystal wheat in a restaurant these days, I love naturally cloudy apple juice and ginger ale anyway. From FrizzKola to warm milk with honey. You are so special because you offer everything that my family and I like, please please keep it that way. Small note: the Allgäuer Büble dark back then was also a blast ;-) Eike is a stunner, so nice and charming...the rest of course too. And the boss anyway. We would love to come back. Thanks for everything ❤️

Great service, cozy, family atmosphere and the food was also delicious. The crowning glory was the house treat, the green one and the rum ball. All highly recommended. We'll be back.

The schnitzel with fried potatoes was delicious and Florian was very friendly and attentive.

At first glance, it's a typical beer bar that you wouldn't immediately go to with your family. But the impression is deceptive, rustic ambience in the interior, very good food (schnitzel, burgers, pizza, salads - that's what I paid attention to). Service is great (greetings to Sven, take a deep breath 😉) - from the greeting ("Now it's time") to the small schnapps/liqueur on the house, there was a small toy gift for the kids. Highly recommended, even if it's JWD.

An incredibly healthy retro pub with a rustic atmosphere that I really enjoy working in. Come by, take a look. Enjoy our unique service, leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind you and forget your worries for a moment. The kitchen is a dream with homemade and, above all, freshly prepared food by the boss herself and her hard-working helpers. Thanks to their diversity, there is something to suit everyone. By far the unfriendly shop between Stockholm and Palermo

As strangers, we actually ended up here completely by chance. We were looking for a restaurant that was within walking distance. We were so pleasantly surprised that we went there again the next evening. Everything was actually right, great ambience, super friendly service and absolutely delicious food. Even if it's "far out there", the journey is definitely worth it.

Mega pub and rustically furnished, delicious food and nice staff. It's just a shame that we have short opening hours until 10 p.m. It's actually a pub where you can sit and babble all night 🤘🏻

The first thing that greeted us was a waitress who said: You are already 10 minutes late and we should have given your table to someone else. A look into the restaurant: everything is empty. Nobody but us was there as a guest. So we were lucky again. Exciting. There was a daily menu on the table that advertised goose leg with red cabbage and dumplings. My wife wanted to order this and was told: "So if you want to eat this, you have to order it 2 days in advance. How else are we supposed to prepare it?" OK. I can understand that you need preparation, but then you write it on the card or don't put it on the table at all. The food was otherwise ok, but nothing special. A little less cheese would have done the trick on the cheeseburger. After eating we were asked if everything was OK, we said it was tasty and I would like to order another espresso. I was then approached by the head chef: "Always stay relaxed and relax, we'll wait until the owner has finished eating!" That was the crowning moment for both of us. On the one hand, I think that's not how you handle an order and on the other hand, it's out of line to call a guest a "mistress". We probably won't go there again, which is actually a shame because the shop really has potential and is very homely and comfortably furnished and decorated. If you ignore the pack of disinfectant wipes on every table.

The atmosphere is good. Everything is beautifully decorated in an old way. Very nice and friendly service. Everything is explained well. Excellent.

Wir sind jedes Jahr mit unseren beiden Kindern bei der Rückreise von unserem Ostseeurlaub in Kassel im JWD. Wir sind immer wieder begeistert vom Essen, der Auswahl und den Preisen. Die Besitzerin und ihr Personal sind super freundlich und nett und es ist jedes Mal wieder ein Genuss in diese urige Kneipe zu kommen.

Ein sehr gutes, uriges Lokal mit super freundlichem Personal und Chefin und tollen, reichlichen, günstigen Speisen. Reingard u. Helmut aus Dresden.

Innen sehr gemütlich, außen kann man auf Holzbänken schön unter Bäumen sitzen.

Durch Zufall entdeckt und für gut befunden. Hier trifft man nicht Hinz und Kunz, was für uns etwas sehr angenehmes ist. Die Menschen dort sind sehr nett und freundlich, für ein Schwätzchen ist Zeit und beim Ambiente gibt es viel zu entdecken in der Wartezeit aufs Essen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall nochmal wieder

Ich habe früher hier gekellnert und bin ganz hin und weg, dass ich sofort wieder anfangen könnte. Das Essen hat etwas länger gedauert, aber dafür sensationell lecker. Die Wartezeit haben wir mit den tollen Spielen, die es dort gibt, überbrückt. Altbierbowle war so lecker wie früher. Es war ein toller Abend mit sehr freundlicher Bedienung, danke Lara. Wir kommen wieder. Anscheinend muss ich die Rumkugeln noch probieren.

Zum ersten mal, waren wir im JWD und haben uns gleich wohlgefühlt ! Auch unser Hund wurde direkt willkommen geheißen, bekam Wasser und Leckerlies :) Das Ambiente ist sehr außergewöhnlich, es gibt viel zu entdecken ... Von bekannten alten Gegenständen, bis hin zum Kuriosum :D Das Essen war wunderbar, eine wirklich reichhaltige Portion das Schnitzel, dachte ich Platze :D Auch meine Freundin hatte eine ordentliche Auswahl, an vegetarischen Gerichten und sie war begeistert vom Geschmack. Zum Abschluss, gab es noch einen Gruß, aus der Küche, wir haben uns für einen "kurzen" mit Limette entschieden ;-) Wir kommen definitiv wieder !!! Danke dafür.

Sehr schönes Restaurant und gutes Essen. Die Bedienung durch einen jungen Mann war wirklich sehr freundlich und der erbrachte Service forbildlich. Kommen gerne wieder.

Als Stammgast vor Corona waren wir gern hier. Heute draußen gesessen, auch hier wird auf die Corona Regeln geachtet, auf den Tischen Desinfektionstücher. Nach dem Essen gab es immer ein "Leckerli", Espresso, Kettenfett etc. Heute wurde dies verwehrt mit dem Hinweis, dass man dies nur bekommt, wenn man aufgegessen hat. Wie schon in einer anderen Bewertung geschrieben, der Kunde bringt das Geld ... So wird sich unser Bonuskarte wohl nicht weiter füllen, schade!

Was für eine tolle Kneipe mit hervorragenden Essen, netter Bedienung,hallo Sven 😉 und einer Wirtin mit viel Herz, ❤️ schön daß es solche tollen Orginale noch gibt. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder und genießen nochmal ausgiebig den schönen Biergarten. Danke für einen gelungenen Abend.

Wir haben sehr gut gegessen in einer sehr tollen Atmosphäre! Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich.

Eine sehr gut geführte, uhrige Kneipe im Stiel der 60er Jahre mit Biergarten. Sehr gutes deftiges Essen. Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Hier kann man sich auch nur auf ein Bier treffen und sich eins von vielen Gesellschaftsspie ausleihen und am Tisch spielen. Wo gibt es das noch. Macht weiter so 👍

Empfehlungswerte Kneipe. Das Essen ist lecker, die Besitzerin sehr nett und die Inneneinrichtung ist speziell, aber gemütlich. Nach dem Essen sollte man sich auf keinen Fall das „Kettenfett“ entgehen lassen.

Ein sehr schönes Lokal .Tolles Essen der Service ist super.

Nette Lokalität im Blüchervirtel. Wir waren Mittwoch Abend dort die einzigen Gäste. Speisekarte, wie man sie aus Eckkneipen kennt: Pizza und Salate. Mir war der Pizzateig zu dünn. Ansonsten ok.

Die Küche is wirklich gut. Best ever Hamburger 🍔!

Diese kleine Perle, bei gutem Wetter mit einem super schönen Biergarten, liegt mitten in einem Wohngebiet. Von der Stadtmitte braucht man ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß. Wenn man mit dem Auto kommt, kann es nicht einfach werden im Wohngebiet einen Parkplatz zu ergattern. Wenn man es nicht weiß, kommt man nicht unbedingt in dieses Wohngebiet in Kassel direkt an der Fulda, was sehr schade ist, denn es lädt auch ein, einen Spaziergang an der Fulda zu unternehmen. Das JWD (Jans weit draußen) ist eine urige kleine Perle, in der man sich auf Anhieb richtig wohl fühlt. Die kleinen Details machen den Unterschied. Man sieht, dass in diesem Lokal viel Herzblut und Liebe zum Detail steckt. Das Personal ist super nett, sehr entgegenkommend und erfüllt (fast) alle Wünsche. Auf der Speisekarte ist für jeden etwas dabei, Schwerpunkt liebt auf selbst-gemachten Burgern und Schnitzel in verschiedeneren Variationen. Auch vegetarische und vegane Gerichte sind enthalten. Wir haben uns für Zwei Schnitzel entschieden. Ein Westernschnitzel und ein Kutscherschnitzel. Die Zutaten sind frisch und dire Gerichte werden direkt in der Küche zubereitet, daher ist auf jeden Fall mit Wartezeiten zu rechnen. Die Schnitzel werden in einer Pfanne gebraten, was man sieht und schmeckt. Kann man nur echt empfehlen. Zum Abschluss gab es noch einen Gruß aus der Küche. Die Rum - Kugel ist echt toll gewesen! Zusammengefasst eine echte Perle, die wir in den letzten Jahren schon mehrfach besucht haben.

Ein uriges Restaurant in der Nähe von unserem Womo-Stellplatz. Wir haben gut gegessen und wurden sehr freundlich bedient. Nach dem Essen gab es noch einen leckeren Gruß vom Haus. Wir empfehlen das Lokal sehr gerne weiter.
