Restaurant Hopfenkeller in Rostock

I, too, can only advise against this restaurant. There were two of us, and we got a table relatively quickly without a reservation for dinner. In good spirits and with hearty appetites, we had a nice spot right by the waiter's door. Drinks arrived promptly... the friendly waiter correctly entered our dinner order. So far, so good. Then the long wait began. So we ordered another drink. Guests at the neighboring tables arrived, ordered, received their food, and paid. After almost an hour, we politely addressed the waiter about it, and... after a profuse apology, he took off. When he eventually returned, he said again that he was sorry and that our food was now being prepared. It was supposed to take another 19 minutes, but as if by magic, it arrived immediately. My food was slightly warmed up. People... just don't go there!!! When we paid the FULL PRICE, the waiter asked how much change he should give us. EXACTLY!!!

Unfortunately, things have declined considerably. We were here a year and a half ago and were more than satisfied. Yesterday was a minor disaster. Order taken incorrectly. Extra sauce was served cold. Nothing was done with real care, and the waiter was a complete disappointment. This, combined with the truly hefty price and the rather monotonous menu, leaves me feeling sad.

Great atmosphere, friendly service, and good food! It's also wheelchair accessible via elevator—you just have to ask and have them show you the elevator entrance.

Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. The online reservation worked well, and the confirmation of the reserved seats was also fine, but when we arrived, the reservation could no longer be found. We were given another table anyway. The menu hadn't been available online beforehand. When we browsed the menu at our table, we unfortunately discovered that, with a few exceptions, the only dishes available were schnitzel dishes of all kinds. The prices for drinks are extremely high, even for the food, and the quality of the food leaves a lot to be desired. There were problems paying with a voucher: I was asked to go to the kitchen area to pay with the voucher. Unfortunately, the waiter couldn't do this. He looked for help, and after several attempts, the waitress who was called over also tried various methods to deduct the voucher from the bill, but this also failed. The only solution was to reduce the bill by deducting the food and drinks, allowing me to pay the remaining amount by card. I only received the receipt I requested for the amount paid by card. When I asked for the full bill, they printed out an additional receipt for me. The entire payment process probably took about a quarter of an hour, during which I had to stand at the counter. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant, even though the ambiance is actually very nice.

No, I won't be visiting that place again. Just for a beer. The food wasn't worth the money. It was edible, but nothing more. Some fast food joints make better, and much cheaper, ready-made schnitzels. Sorry, but that wasn't it.

The food, unfortunately, is of disastrous quality. For one thing, they obviously buy cheap meat, which is then not prepared properly, at least in the case of schnitzel. The schnitzel is far too thick and tough, the breading doesn't seem fresh, and the schnitzel has never seen a pan. As for beer ("Hopfenkeller"!), it's just as pathetic: They serve only swill from the Carlsberg brewery and its subsidiaries.

The baked potato was only lukewarm, the Coke was still, and the waitress came to take our order and collect the money, but no one else was in sight. It's a shame, but we definitely won't be back.

The draft wheat beer costs €6.20, which is more expensive than in Munich.

The cellar vault is very beautiful. However, the electric music doesn't fit the setting. While the drinks were served very quickly, we had to wait about 50 minutes for two schnitzels and one fish dish. The restaurant was barely half full. The Wiener schnitzel wasn't really Viennese-sized, but rather small, and unfortunately quite greasy. Conclusion: You can do it once, but try something different next time.

Today was my third time at the Hopfenkeller in three years. The food and drink were always excellent, the service friendly, but from time to time the ambiance suffered from music that was completely unsuitable for the setting. It's a medieval cellar vault, and they play modern music with wild rhythms and shrill vocals (luckily not too loud, but still audible). Any attentive guest should notice that something isn't right here. It's unfortunately a bad habit these days to become arbitrary in restaurants everywhere. The Petrikeller has appropriate medieval music. If you're going to play modern music, you should prefer instrumental music with subtle rhythms, jazz, or something similar. Fortunately, over time, more and more guests came, and the sound became less noticeable. Perhaps they'll consider not always forcing music on guests. It's a shame they were so insensitive here. Therefore, only 3 points for the ambience.

5 stars because it's a gastronomic/culinary experience in a beautiful, lovingly decorated cellar vault. Hot plates ***** Price/performance ***** Our suggestion of red cabbage salad with the beef roulade, which was on the menu with red cabbage and boiled potatoes, or we ordered two red cabbage salads, but also with bean salad or mushrooms, or no red cabbage salad... was warmly received. Then we had the pork medallions, which were excellent. An espresso with water and a biscuit and a superb Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake with apple sauce and cinnamon/sugar) rounded everything off perfectly... 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 We'll be back again

Today I was sitting at the Hopfenmarkt under the umbrella of the Hopfenkeller and eating ice cream from the GDR soft serve stand. Then a waitress from the Hopfenkeller came over and wanted to take my order. I said I'd finish the ice cream first. To which she snapped, "I could eat somewhere else." I then got up and sat down on a public bench. I ate somewhere else. They weren't worth coming back for something to eat after such unfriendliness. Customer unfriendliness is unmatched.

I went to the Hopfenkeller for lunch today and was absolutely thrilled. Even though it doesn't officially open until 12:00, we were allowed in early and were served drinks. The waitress was attentive, warm, and professional – just what you'd want. The ambiance is simply enchanting; you immediately feel at home. For dinner, we had baked potatoes, liver, and tarte flambée – everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. An all-around wonderful experience – I'll definitely be back and can recommend the Hopfenkeller!

Very friendly service, an atmospheric cellar, and decent portions. Unfortunately, we waited quite a while for our food, and unlike the clearly advertised vegetarian dishes, there aren't any vegan options here (apart from side dishes and a salad). If that doesn't bother you, you'll definitely find something to eat and be satisfied.

I thought it was delicious and cozy, but a bit expensive. The service was attentive. My boyfriend didn't like it so much. The potatoes were really strange. We parked in the parking garage around the corner.

The evening started off great. Good service and a pleasant atmosphere. Then came my main course: Straw-fed pork chop with a crispy fat crust. Unfortunately, it didn't have a crispy fat crust. Despite requesting it and pointing it out on the menu, it came out of the kitchen without any changes the second time. It's a shame, because I hadn't ordered a wobbly crust.

First of all, I'd like to thank the service, which was very pleasant and friendly. The food was truly delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere was unique. If you're in town and want to eat well, I highly recommend this restaurant.

The accompanying side dishes, such as the golden brown fried potatoes and the fresh salad, round off the dish perfectly. The steak is equally delicious and cooked to perfection. The combination of the tender meat and the spicy sauce is a real treat for the senses. We enjoy every moment and take our time to fully enjoy the harmonious atmosphere of the Hopfenkeller. At the end we treat ourselves to a homemade dessert, which rounds off the evening perfectly. We leave the hop cellar with full bellies and satisfied faces and agree: we will definitely be back here The schnitzel in the Hopfenkeller is absolutely recommended! It impresses with its perfect preparation - tender meat, crispy breading and a taste that melts in your mouth. The side dishes complement the dish perfectly and make it a real culinary delight. The friendly service and the cozy atmosphere complete the experience. A must for every schnitzel lover in Rostock!

A mega restaurant called today at lunchtime and wanted a table for 7 people and even got one... The waiter Marko was just great, he lives and loves his job. Always worth a visit They responded to all requests, no matter whether it was a large 1 liter beer or a small 0.2 liter beer. Meat was overcooked and dry. Carelessly done. Cool temperatures in the basement.

Cola arrived quickly. Then the waiter was no longer with us. Unfortunately I didn't get to order food because after three quarters of an hour I was no longer hungry or in the mood...😡

If you want to eat plaice, you should go to a fish restaurant. The dessert couldn't make up for the main course either. It was rather frustrating. So 0 stars for that. Thumbs up for the service staff, I feel sorry for them in this kitchen. An evening I would rather forget.

We were there with 4 people. Anyone who likes an atmosphere like this will find it really cool 😉. The drinks were there straight away. The service was like a swarm of bees and was always friendly. There was, among other things, bruschetta (which was really tasty), wild solyanka (also highly recommended). We continued with a roulade with dumplings - dumplings (two pieces) were standard, sauce & roulade were also really successful. However, roulade was quite small. And finally the duck with fried potatoes. Duck was a decent portion and went well with the red cabbage. I would have liked the skin to be crispier, but I could really live with it. But - you really have to practice the fried potatoes - the pictures and personal experiences show, you have to finish them too. Nothing fried, no roasted aromas & unseasoned. You can do it better 😉. Very nice old cellar. There are a few steps to overcome. Service very pleasant and friendly. I liked the food. Good selection. Starter Ragout Fin, large portion for a starter. Paper towels in the toilet.

First of all, I'm not a complainer or anything, but I have to say, I'm ashamed of you, how can you serve something like that to your guests. On November 30th, 2024, I was in Rostock with my family for the Christmas market. Since we wanted to have a nice meal, we stopped here. My wife didn't have a big one Hunger ordered a salad, my daughter and I ordered a farmer's breakfast, our son-in-law (in Spe) ordered a minced steak. What was then served... people, that's embarrassing for such a person Restaurant. My wife's salad was ONLY a few dry lettuce leaves without any dressing. When my wife asked, they put oil and Basamico on the table. Then came the farmer's breakfast, normally I would have gotten up and left quickly, only I wanted to not to spoil my family's evening. It was a round paddy about 10cm in diameter, 1.5cm thick more than 2 eggs make scrambled eggs then 4-5 slices of fried potato and 10 It wasn't a gram of bacon, not even a small salad (you can't have that either). The "salad" was 10 euros, the farmer's breakfast was 15 euros per person. Any kebab shop or McDonald's is better than you, never again. Shame on you

Great ambience... you don't find something like that that often anymore. Were here for the first time today. Would come back at any time. The food is great, everyone can find something to suit their taste here.

We wanted to eat in an old vaulted cellar and we were not disappointed! The ambience is just G-R-O-S-S-A-R-T-I-G...cross vaults everywhere you look and just great!! And the food is also fantastic: tavern cuisine as described. Hearty, simple, like grandma's, delicious and huge portions. Plus a pub pilsner, which is very tasty. And a dessert portion that is second to none, how is one guest supposed to manage that?!? The service gets a tiny deduction because my request ("mashed potatoes instead of boiled potatoes") wasn't implemented, but the reaction to it was so sweet (the waiter said before I could say anything: "I mean, there's something wrong with your order ") that I didn't insist and it was so delicious too.... Highly recommended and unbelievable that a new tenant is being sought....

We spontaneously ate here in the evening with a group of 13 people. It was no problem reserving a spot at short notice. Very nice restaurant with really good food and super nice staff 👍

The shop itself is great, the food was okay so far except for my companion's fried potatoes, which would have liked a little more roasting, and my pork fillet, which was unfortunately a bit too done. Our waiter was totally on his toes. Let's see what happens next year when the owner changes, the store in and of itself is something special.

All 4 meals were lukewarm, you were only allowed to order drinks at first and then had to wait until the waiter came to order the food even though we already wanted to order food. Drinks took forever. There was hardly any carbon dioxide in the Alster. The schnitzel had a fatty taste full of sinew. The fries tasted like deep fryer fat and were rubbery... that has nothing to do with steakhouse fries. You were only asked for mayonnaise and ketchup later when you were almost finished. The salad was totally soggy and sour. Old mushrooms were already black. The tomato on the schnitzel is much too thick and has a lot of stress... just not edible. The cheese was cold. We were very dissatisfied, disappointed for this money. Only after asking us to pay did the waiter come 10 minutes later. Service a zero.

I can recommend my Schnitzel Jäger Art to anyone who wants to have a delicious lunch and there is only one restaurant in Rostock and that is the Hopfenkeller, a great restaurant from the 15th century. The food is first class and therefore deserves the full score of 5 stars The nice waiters are also very nice and polite and are available to help and advise all guests I will 100% come back here for lunch

While looking for something to eat for dinner, we came across this somewhat hidden restaurant. The restaurant is located in the basement in a rustic vaulted cellar and feels like you are taking a little journey back in time. In addition to the regular lamps, there is at least one candle for each table and the furnishings look as if they had kept the best from the last centuries. The waitress kindly assigned us a table and brought the cards straight away. Drinks took less than 5 minutes after ordering and the food arrived quickly and tasted very good. The fried potatoes in particular were very successful. The Wienerschnitzel was very good, the Hamburg-style schnitzel was unfortunately a bit greasy but still good. The staff was attentive and processed our dessert order relatively quickly. Since a large group received their food at the same time, it was clear that there was a lot to do, but also that the order was processed professionally. In conclusion, a very good meal, friendly staff and a rustic atmosphere, which we are happy to recommend.

As tourists, we had a great time dining here with our relatives. I ordered the chef recommended pork knuckle served with pea puree, sauerkraut etc. The portion was huge! It was very fulfilling. Plus I also got some cream mushrooms and they were also amazing. Love the stone cellars!

Both meals we ordered were rather lukewarm, my husband had a knuckle that was probably okay, but my meat was a bit tough and riddled with tendons. I actually had to send the food back, but we had been waiting for a long time. You are brought to the table by the waiter, regardless of whether you want to sit there, you are not asked whether the table is okay. We were NOT satisfied.

We eat here once a year because it has become a kind of family tradition. Overall, the Hopfenkeller has a cozy atmosphere, especially the separate room for larger groups. When it comes to the most important discipline, the courts, the hop cellar sinks into the insignificant middle field. The food isn't really bad, but it's not delicious either. The meat has a tendency to be tough, especially the chicken burger for the children was downright inedible. The range of side dishes also ranges from good (fries, not too heavy) to mediocre (fried potatoes). I constantly have the feeling that some of the ingredients are not freshly prepared. In the details, minor inadequacies cloud the overall picture. In the toilet the cold water practically drips from the tap, probably to save money. The feedback on the food ranges from good to moderate. Actually, I expect the restaurant to be delicious for everyone. Just 3 stars because of atmosphere and service.

We had to wait an hour and a half for the food. I had pork medallions. With this meal you have to order the side dishes. That was what I consciously wanted. I only got the medallions with the variety of beans I ordered. The herb butter, sweet potato fries and pepper ram sauce were missing. When I finally got what was missing when I asked, I discovered that the fries were made very quickly and too dark, the pepper ram sauce was just a simple gravy without any pepper flavor. I simply expected more in this great atmosphere. The prices are not extremely expensive but not cheap either, so more should simply be possible.

If you like cellar vaults, this is the place for you. Great atmosphere. I had my first asparagus of the season and was thrilled. The meat was world class. My wife was thrilled with her knuckle. Definitely a recommendation.

The waiter was constantly outside smoking with the so-called “cook” and it took almost an hour for “food” to arrive.

Ambience great but food not. Meat dry and hardly any sauce on the plate, frozen fries way too well done and rather the very cheap version, apple red cabbage very tasty but only two spoons :( for 24 euros! The waiter apparently confused the grilled knuckle with the baked one when he was out to smoke. Fried potatoes were black. ☹️

Very disappointing... Long waiting times just to order food and another hour waiting for the food. Service friendly but disorganized. Food nothing special and not enough for the money. 16 euros and half a schnitzel 10x10 I don't understand it. It's a shame for the nice ambience.

The food was excellent and the portion size wasn’t shy, the only “problem” the place had was the extreme price for drinks. Just for 0.4l of cola was around 5€ and around 4€ for the said amount of water. Otherwise the beer was well priced and the food wasn’t expensive considering the quality, the waiting time wasn’t out of the ordinary as we waited around 30 minutes. 8/10

Kind of disappointing. The most beautiful vault in Rostock is advertised - in the end it is quite old-fashioned and outdated, so the atmosphere is not inviting. Carelessly decorated and rarely cleaned properly, there were visibly cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and on the walls everywhere. Service wasn't attentive, we didn't even receive the card for a long time and there were empty glasses and plates in front of us for even longer. All in all, I expected more. The schnitzel was okay, but nothing extraordinary.

Nice service and delicious food in a pleasant atmosphere. I'd love to come back when I'm in town.

Great shop. It wasn't easy for us to find in the flood of advertising, but it was actually easy. Food was there in no time. Yummy. Just a little less than expected. Otherwise nothing to complain about. Service was outstanding, even when a group from the coach arrived.

Hello, I had lunch for my wife on my birthday and I have to say, we regret it. It started with the fact that it was ice cold in the hop cellar, then it continued with the fact that the cola I ordered had almost no carbonation and was definitely already a bit open, it also tasted a bit like dishwater. Since we wanted to order something unusual, there were nine dishes on one side, the T bone steak and the ripe eye steak were not available, so out of 5 dishes that were new there were only 3 left that we didn't find particularly special. We then both decided on the pork fillet with bacon, the bacon was overcooked and not good and the meat was not tender but very tough. In summary, the food doesn't taste good. I then ordered a peppermint tea because I was just so cold, otherwise I would never order a tea in a restaurant. My wife ordered a chocolate muffin for dessert. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cream after eating it, she felt very sick and it all came out again at home, top and bottom... I wasn't feeling very well either. We will never enter this restaurant again.

It's very nice in the basement, but I can't recommend the food at all. The schnitzels were both burnt and you also had to look for the fried potatoes on the plate. I won't visit the restaurant again, but it's a great atmosphere.

The vaults in particular give the hop cellar its flair. The food tastes good and offers a reasonable amount for the price. I would describe the food on offer as down-to-earth home cooking. The service was routine and friendly. Overall not a bad place for dinner. Thoroughly recommended; But the hop cellar is nothing unusual or spectacular. Card payment (contactless) is possible directly at the table.

We were there for the second time, again almost everything was great. The fried potatoes could have been fried a little longer.

A nice evening. We were promptly welcomed and shown to our table. The service was competent, friendly and personable. We quickly received the drinks we ordered and a little later the food. The food tasted good, the portion was good and you were full. All in all a lovely evening, would be happy again. Kudos again to Chris, keep cooking so well.

Ein Besuch in dieser wunderschönen Kellergaststätte lohnt auf jeden Fall. Hier ist sehr gemütlich und man wird freundlich empfangen. Es gibt eine große Auswahl an Biersorten und auch das Angebot an Speisen ist üppig. Da ist für jeden etwas dabei. Unser Essen war sehr lecker, frisch und wir mussten nicht lange warten.

Här har vi varit tidigare och fått bra mat. Även denna gång var maten alldeles utmärkt. Vi åt minihaxe respektive wienerschnitzel. Till detta en flaska husets röda vin, den visade sig att innehålla en hel liter. Miljön är rustik och trevlig, maten utmärkt och personalen trevlig. En plumpen i protokollet var när vi skulle betala, jag begärde ”zahlen bitte” av en i personalen och han frågade ”kontant oder kort.” Kort bitte svarade jag men sedan var han som uppslukad från jordens yta. Då en kvart gått och flera andra fått betala som sagt till efter mig blev jag lite upprörd, vi skulle nämligen gå på julmarknaden innan den stängde. Jag fick till slut tag på en ny i personalen som då kom med notan tämligen omgående. Det blev ingen dricks denna gången trots utmärkt mat. Kom ihåg att boka bord om ni går dit då det är ett populärt ställe oftast med god mat.

Das Essen war durschnittlich, für den hohen Preis eher schlecht. Generell schmeckte vieles wie aufgewärmt und lieblos zubereitet. Die Portionen waren auch recht klein ( und ich bin kein großer "Esser"). Das Schlimmste war jedoch die sehr sehr lange Wartezeit zwischen der Bestellung, den einzelnen Gängen und der Bezahlung. Der Service wirkte träge und musste gefühlt gezwungen werden, zu uns zu kommen. Von demher gehe ich dort nicht mehr hin und kann es auch nicht weiterempfehlen.
