Restaurant Aresto in Hannover

I've never seen a Greek restaurant like this. The food is dry and tasteless, and the prices are sky-high. They won't just pour you an ouzo. It's a rip-off for tourists! I don't recommend it!

My steak was amazing. Perfectly cooked. Personally, I found the selection of appetizers far too limited for a Greek restaurant.

We had reserved a table and received a friendly welcome. The staff was pleasant and our order was taken quickly. The fillet platter for €33 didn't meet my expectations, as it consisted of beef steak instead of fillet. Similarly, there was no pork fillet, only pork loin roast on top of a large pile of gyros meat. The baked potatoes with sour cream were okay. The salad bar was very basic, offering only six items. The chicken breast with vegetables for €17.90 was supposed to be served without any side dishes. Access to the salad bar was not provided. The tomato rice was then charged separately at €6. There was no complimentary appetizer. The drinks (two wines, two beers, and one water) were overpriced at €34. In conclusion: €90 was far too expensive for what we received.

I got a table in the basement after booking in advance. The food was excellent, and the service was friendly. I could assemble my own salad at the salad bar. What bothered me was the extreme noise level. It was almost impossible to have a conversation.

The food was very good. The staff was very attentive without being intrusive. The only thing I could criticize (a first-world problem) is the sauce (which tasted very good) on the meat. I would have preferred it next to the meat. But as I said, that's just nitpicking. Thank you so much! P.S. The prices are perfectly reasonable!

We were visiting Hanover and chose this restaurant by chance. We had an excellent meal and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and the exceptionally friendly service. We'll definitely be back!

We were thrilled with everything; the food was beautifully presented. I had moussaka, my friend had salmon, and we were both absolutely delighted. Incidentally, a very famous person sat next to us, which of course made us very happy!

After a break of many years, we returned to Aresto. We had a family celebration with 14 people. The restaurant was open throughout the day. The service was very friendly. The food was of the highest quality. The selection was such that everyone in our large group found their perfect dish. The portions were, unlike what I remembered from the past, very generous. As always, there's a fantastic wine selection, perhaps among the best in Hanover. The wait time, both for the food and for drinks, was within normal limits. We had a perfect stay. Our next visit won't be for several years.

Unfriendly service, mediocre food

A highlight in this city's dining scene. Everything was perfect: the friendly service, the great ambiance, the friendly clientele, and probably the tastiest gyros we've ever eaten. Everything served at the tables around us looked fantastic. We'll be happy to come back.

A truly revolutionary interpretation of a bowl. It's essentially a perfectly ordinary mixed salad, lightened with a portion of cold rice—because warm would be too mainstream—and topped with a handful of falafel balls, carelessly thrown on top. Voilà—the bowl was complete. At least there's no need to worry about the store's financial future. With a price tag that's probably about six times the cost of the goods, the staff was friendly and very prompt.

We were there on a weekday evening. Regarding the service: At most 20% of the tables were occupied. Nevertheless, we had to wait a long time for the food. Drinks also arrived 20 minutes after ordering. A beer had a particularly difficult time and only arrived after 30 minutes. Service seemed overwhelmed and cold. Food: €25 for gyros and souvlaki isn't good value for money: On the plate were a handful of fries and the same amount of undercooked and barely seasoned gyros. The highlight was the souvlaki, but only one skewer of it, which was a shame. Ambience: Outside, you can hear the rippling of the Leine River; pleasant. Inside: Classic, lots of wood, warm, but missing that certain something. We'll try it again one day; maybe it was a bad day. But unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it today.

Very nice atmosphere, the food tastes like Greek, and the staff is very friendly. It's located on the river, and my waiter, Kadri, was very professional and friendly.

I really enjoyed the food, and I also thought it was great that I could put together my own salad at the salad bar. I was a bit disappointed by the wobbly chair and the presence of a few wasps, who also found the meat very tasty. At least the wobbly chair is workable; insects can always come outside.

The price was a bit higher, but the service and food were very good. The location was beautiful by the river. The food was good.

We went for a coffee. The place is very nice, right by the canal. Terrible service. An elderly man with glasses served us. He wouldn't want to work. He left me with the impression of being unwanted in the restaurant. I don't usually write reviews, but as a restaurant manager, I found the service unacceptable. I called his colleague, "Blödmann," across the hall from us for forgetting to charge us (it can happen). However, the food looked delicious. Oh, and for two lattes (one with soy milk), it was €10 (I don't know where he got the math). Best regards.

Very tasty food and good service

I went to Aresto with my husband for the first time today. It's a lovely atmosphere. I had salmon fillet with almond rice and fennel. My husband had a mixed fish platter, and everything was delicious. When the weather's nice, you can sit outside and enjoy a lovely view of the Leine River. It's definitely worth a visit. We'd love to come back 😊

The Aresto restaurant serves classic Greek dishes. The service was fast, attentive, and friendly. The ambiance doesn't quite fit a Greek restaurant, but it's rustic and cozy. Unfortunately, the gyro wasn't at all convincing and is served without tzatziki, a sauce that's listed separately on the menu and isn't exactly cheap. It was quite nice, but I wouldn't visit the restaurant again.

I am very disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. Although the food was okay, the behavior of the staff ruined the entire experience. I have rarely encountered such unprofessional and unpleasant staff. It's a real shame, because the food has potential – but service like this simply takes away your appetite. I definitely won't be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone expecting a pleasant dining experience.

Unfortunately, we weren't convinced. The three of us were there for the first time. We sat outside; we'd describe the ambiance as average for outdoor dining. Not bad, but nothing special either. The interior is certainly nice. The service was very friendly, but unfortunately inattentive. First, they brought the wrong drink—a Hugo instead of an Aperitif—then claimed I'd ordered a Hugo, which I would never do because I don't like Hugo. The ice cream for dessert was supposed to have three flavors—but no chocolate, please—what came? Chocolate! For main courses, we all had different dishes. The gyro bowl from the summer menu was simply slapped onto a flat plate: very dry gyro meat with a dollop of tzatziki. It had nothing to do with a bowl. The second persok had gyro and souvlaki—which was also rather average. Only the lemon noodles with salmon were really good. The final bill came to €122—a hefty price for the rather mediocre meal, including drinks—which didn't include the premium wine. We won't be coming back.

Honestly good all around. Very nice salad selection. I liked their rice noodles it was really good, I was so surprised. Service is very nice, the staff is helpful and nice.

Come only for the Atmosphere thr food is the worst i have ever ate

I wrote a review in 2023, which was removed from Google for defamation. I have a receipt that I ate here! And it expired as I write here. I ate here on June 30, 2023. Unfortunately, my ordered grilled meat was lukewarm, so I informed the waiter, who politely took my plate and took it away. A short while later, the waiter brought the plate back. The meat on it had apparently been "reheated," making it very dry and inedible for me. I didn't eat it either, and it was cleared away. Conclusion: I went home hungry. What was nice, however, was that I didn't have to pay for the cappuccino I ordered; it was on the house. I paid a total of €35, including €30 for the grilled meat. I expected better quality food. Why was my review removed? Is constructive criticism not welcome? It's been two years, and the service may have improved in the meantime. I would have liked better quality on this very important evening for me. But on June 30, 2023, it was as I described.

Even though we were there as a conference group with more than 50 people, everything went very well. High-quality Greek cuisine with Mediterranean influences from Italy. Well-cooked and light. Service was very good. Unfortunately, the place is so popular that a certain amount of noise is inevitable. And to finish off, a Limoncello Spritz outside... wonderful evening. Thank you.

A very disappointing and disturbing experience. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff was rude and unprofessional. We ordered drinks first, then our food. After waiting for over 50 minutes, I politely asked several times about our food, but received only rude and disrespectful replies—I shouldn't complain, after all, the restaurant was full. When I finally asked to just pay for the drinks and leave, I was told I had to pay for the food as well, even though it hadn't been served yet. Only after I made it clear that I would at least receive the ordered dish immediately was a plate of almost raw oven-baked vegetables placed in front of me, obviously undercooked and inedible. I matter-of-factly pointed out that I couldn't eat raw food and refused this dish. At that point, the waiter became loud and aggressive, making derogatory remarks about my presumed nationality, and when I calmly explained my position, he tried to snatch my phone from my hand to force me to pay. Glasses flew off the table in the process. An absolutely unacceptable and threatening situation. I felt harassed, insulted, and threatened. This behavior was not only unprofessional, but clearly exceeded the bounds of what was acceptable. I cannot recommend this place under any circumstances, especially if you value respectful service and safety.

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. One dish was served lukewarm, and the fries were already cold. The meat and sea bream were also very dry. There was no olive oil or salt at the table. The 50-minute wait on a Saturday was busy, but still too long. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio was very poor.

We were there as a group! Service wasn't great, even though we had announced our arrival. The food was okay! I've had better Greek restaurants. My Metaxa sauce was more like a curry sauce.

Very rude service. We were waiting for the food for 50 minutes and when we asked when it will be ready, the waiter started shouting at us and brought the unready food. Then he told that we are not allowed to go there anymore, denied to bring us the check, was asking about our nationality and was threatening us with the police. The guests and other waitresses also saw it and it was very unpleasant. Not anymore!!!

We recently visited the Greek restaurant Aresto in Hanover, which was recommended to us by a friend from Hanover, and we were overall very satisfied. The ambiance is truly lovely and inviting. The service was also excellent – ​​friendly, attentive, and courteous. The Grill Plate No. 76, which includes pork steak, chicken breast, and gyros, was unfortunately a bit dry, which somewhat spoiled the experience. Perhaps things will improve next time if the preparation is adjusted a bit. Nevertheless, I can recommend the restaurant overall, especially for the pleasant ambiance and great service!

This 104yo establishment deserves the accolades on the wall all too well. Meticulous attention to detail. Beautiful waterfront location. The sauces are sublime. The walnut honey yogurt is a great finish to a satisfying meal. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio isn't right. A small portion of gyros (not gyros according to the menu) with fries and salad from the buffet cost €22.90. The meat was dry and poorly seasoned. The fries were tasty, but there weren't many of them. See photo.

I went to the Aresto restaurant and ordered "The Best of Lamb" and a lamb skewer – both were truly delicious! "The Best of Lamb" offered three different cuts of meat, but the fillet was definitely my favorite – next time, I'd rather just have the fillet. The vegetables and sauce were also delicious and perfectly balanced. The lamb skewer was also tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Highly recommended – I'd love to come back!

I also think it's a great idea that you can put together your own salad at the buffet. When I'm back in Hanover, I'll definitely come back. :)

We had dinner there in the evening during the week. Restaurant itself is in a great location and also has nice facilities. Food was delicious. From our point of view, the atmosphere wasn't that good, the staff was in a bad mood or let's say rather listless. From our point of view, there is still room for improvement and would make the stay a little nicer🙏🏻☺️P.S. And there was no ouzo free on the house😢... It's a shame, I know differently from Berlin😏

The best thing about the restaurant was the location!! Starter was delicious as was the buffet with salads. However, the main course was not what we expected from an original Greek. As I am a Greek myself and have visited many Greek restaurants, I unfortunately have to say that it was not authentic!! Since the location is perfect, the food must be good as well as the staff (friendlier and not so ice cold) but also the combination with the food must be taken into account. Unfortunately the price was too expensive for the quality.
