Restaurant Akropolis in Bad Kötzting

We were regular customers for a long time, but will likely refrain from visiting again in the future. The service remains very friendly and attentive, and the owner is accommodating. The ouzo is good; no complaints there. Unfortunately, the quality and portion sizes of the food have declined significantly recently—first with takeout, and now also in the restaurant. The prices were already on the high side, but now they are no longer commensurate with the quality. The appetizers are very tasty, but significantly overpriced. The side salad with the main course is very small. Furthermore, tzatziki is not included with all dishes, which, in our opinion, results in unnecessary additional costs. While the tzatziki is good, it doesn't justify the extra charge. The desserts are average, seem rather like pre-made products, and are also meager in size relative to the price. The restrooms are visibly showing their age. The terrace is cramped with chairs, some of which have been poorly repaired, and the chairs vibrate uncomfortably. Additionally, there is a significant fly problem, not only outside but also inside, which is apparently not being actively addressed. One of the reasons for downgrading our rating from 4-5 stars to 3 stars was the baked gyros: It's now supplemented with bell peppers, which makes it seem longer, but the portion size has actually decreased. Given the still high prices, we find this unacceptable – especially since the restaurant is quite busy and, in our opinion, this is unnecessary. Overall, not a bad restaurant, but currently the price-performance ratio is not right. ------ Clarification regarding the owner's response Several points in your response address aspects that were not part of our review or are presented in an oversimplified manner. Therefore, we would like to clarify the following: Restrooms We did not claim a lack of cleanliness. The following issues were criticized: defective soap dispensers (replaced with individual bar soaps), non-functional paper towel dispensers with loosely placed paper, chipped/rusty drains, scratched toilet partitions, and cracked tiles. This is a description of the condition, not an accusation of poor hygiene. Portion Size & Quality Our assessment is based on frequent visits over a limited period, not a single observation. Specifically, we were referring to the gyros with melted cheese, which we ordered several times in a row. This dish previously did not contain pieces of bell pepper and, in our opinion, was larger. This change to this and other dishes was also confirmed by other people and can be seen in other reviews and photos. Side Dishes In our view, the mention of a "free side dish" is not decisive for evaluating the value for money at this price level. Desserts No factual claims were made regarding the preparation method; only a personal impression of the taste, quantity, and value for money was described. Context We were not long-time customers, but frequent patrons. The review describes specific changes we experienced and does not constitute an accusation. Defending points that were not criticized in this way seems unnecessarily confrontational to us. Therefore, our rating remains unchanged: Friendly service, good organization – however, currently not a fair price-performance ratio. A "Happy New Year" at the end does not alter the factual criticisms or the clarifications provided.

It's the best Greek restaurant I've ever been to, and the cleanest. The owner and staff are the best. Even though they're incredibly busy, they're always helpful and attentive to our every need. The glass and the Paulaner beer I received were ice-cold, just as they should be. And at the end, they always offer you yogurt and ouzo. Absolutely the best restaurant. I recommend it to everyone.

We were there with our family (9 people) for a meal, it was as delicious as always, the atmosphere is lovely, and the service was very friendly; they even opened the door for us when we left. Highly recommended! 👍

We were disappointed because the food wasn't served as advertised on the menu. The baked feta cheese was topped with bell peppers and tomatoes instead of pepperoni and tomatoes. The meat skewer wasn't covered in feta (it was Gouda), and there was tomato sauce underneath the cheese. The menu states that this dish is served without sauce. And with the pepperoni and garlic sauce, you practically had to hunt for the sauce…

We were there on New Year's Eve. Some of the appetizers were very expensive, and, for example, the appetizer platter was served without bread. The price-performance ratio is unfavorable; the portions are quite small for the price. We were last there two years ago, and unfortunately, the quality has declined significantly. To top it all off, a long hair was hidden in my son's gyro. Since he didn't see it and ended up with it in his mouth, he lost his appetite. We informed both servers. Unfortunately, the only response was a curt "Sorry"—that was it. No discount or complimentary drink, etc. We will therefore never visit this restaurant again.

Beer and water come in PET bottles (probably from Aldi/Lidl). I saw it myself, and it tastes like it. Wine? I hope it's not from a Tetra Pak. The price is definitely on the high side. The souvlaki is paper-thin... too thin. The children's schnitzel wasn't good. ALL children's meals are over €10. Way too expensive. Portions are generally not very large. On the plus side: Quzo is available before and after the meal. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Modern.

An exceptionally good Greek restaurant in Bad Kötzting, with excellent food quality and selection, friendly service, good value for money, and a great atmosphere – we always love coming back.

The gyros, topped with cheese, was served in less than 10 minutes. The gyros was dry and stale, and the food was lukewarm. It's a shame that you can't even get freshly prepared food.

The food was okay, but a bit bland for my taste, and the gyros could have been cooked a little longer. Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice and the selection was good.

The food was good, although the salad was a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's a matter of personal preference. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Dogs are allowed, which I think is great, but we would have preferred a table at the side with our dog, rather than in the middle of the room. I'm deducting one star because leftover food was simply wrapped in aluminum foil – for example, gyros along with fries, tzatziki, and calamari. Styrofoam packaging would have been much more practical.

The food was delicious. The restaurant is cozy and quiet despite the large number of guests. We were able to bring our dog inside. We'd be happy to come back if we're in the area.

We were looking for a restaurant because the food at the hotel was so bad. We ended up here, and it was delicious. The service was courteous. If we lived nearby, we would definitely come here more often.

Stopped here while passing through. The atmosphere was very pleasant, not kitschy. We ordered tzatziki for our starter. A waiter brought bread in a basket. The tzatziki was then served on platters by another waiter. When he saw that we already had bread in a basket, he took the bread that was on the tzatziki plates from the plates at the table and took it back with him. The tzatziki tasted quite good. We wanted to order moussaka, but there wasn't any, arguing that it was the day before the restaurant closed and no new one had been prepared yet. Instead, we had meatballs with mustard, garlic, and tomato sauce, a pan dish. Since no side dish was provided, we ordered baked potatoes. The potatoes were halved small jacket potatoes, unseasoned, boiled rather than baked, but with balsamic dressing. The side dish alone costs 5 euros. The meatballs were tasteless, and the sauce was awful. So, all in all, a complete disappointment. We also had a salad with salmon. I liked the salmon: it was hidden under a lettuce leaf. It was a child's portion of salad and a mini piece of salmon for about €13.50. We also had grilled meat, which was dry and tough. This was by far the worst meal I've ever had at a Greek restaurant.

The food was lukewarm, and the rice and salad had nothing to do with Greek food. The salad came before the drinks. I don't recommend it because the price-performance ratio is completely out of sync. Once, never again.

In my opinion, this is the best Greek food in the entire area. The gyro and tiramisu are especially delicious!

The interior was nice, but we were outside, but the wooden floorboards were loose, and the floor was sinking because of the staff. I had chicken breast with fries for 15 euros, way too little, for a child's portion, yes, but not for a man. The side salad was a joke, and the white bread was gone. The plates were damaged. Not recommended. My wife had calamari, which was watery.

Not recommended!! Waiters were overwhelmed, even with a small number of guests. Some of the food was undercooked, some was burnt. Cheap salad dressing, rice with tomato paste/ketchup. The excuse given was that the kitchen staff was sick and the mother was working alone in the kitchen. Shortly afterward, the restaurant filled up, and the food arrived in seconds!!??!

Here, you are still noticed and appreciated as a guest. Now for Dustin's final one-star review. I was also a guest that evening. The entire beer garden was packed. There were also about seven occupied tables inside. It was hot. Even at 8 p.m. it was still 27 degrees. Well, it was obvious to all the guests that there were only two men in service. They tried to please everyone. There was someone shouting from every corner...! Despite that, everyone remained friendly. There was often an ouzo if things took too long. Now, back to that one-star review. It's embarrassing. No one has time anymore. Everyone wants to be served immediately and first. You could see that the service was doing everything they could. If I, as a guest, want to have a pleasant evening, I'll take my time. Harsh ranting isn't appropriate here and now. This guest should go to a fast-food restaurant, where he can order impersonally at a counter and get his bags immediately. Oh my gosh, think about it. We also had to wait a bit, but were rewarded with excellent food and a free shot of schnapps. At this Greek restaurant, every minute of waiting is worth it. Thanks for the lovely evening.

Unfortunately, the bar was completely resistant to criticism. Instead of accepting it with gratitude, the response was "Everyone has different tastes." That's true in principle, but when you get several non-carbonated spritzers, non-alcoholic wheat beer instead of regular beer, completely tasteless food instead of flavorful, watered-down salad, and over-fried scampi, then perhaps you should take the criticism of all your guests into consideration. You'd probably have more of them on Saturday evenings.

From the moment you enter the restaurant, you receive a very friendly welcome, and the service is consistently excellent throughout your visit. We arrived at 1:45 p.m. and the restaurant closes at 2:30 p.m. Everyone was exceptionally friendly, the food was beautifully presented on bamboo boards (not like many Greek restaurants!) and of excellent quality - only the salad dressing was tasty but not very Greek... I didn't know that tzatziki was served without side dishes, but according to the waitress, that's the norm here! Apparently, if you order tzatziki as a starter, you get it with your main course. It's just that you sit for 10 minutes before you get a menu. Then they take your drinks, but not your food, with the comment that it might take a while because there's a group of 20 people there. Staff were inattentive and sometimes lacked German. They completely ran out of lamb for the sake of convenience. Once and never again. I haven't experienced anything like that in the Bavarian Forest, but also not outside, for a long time! What I also forgot about not accepting credit cards is that you can't pay by credit card, which is written on a small handwritten note at the entrance. I also saw this for the first time in Germany, but it fits with everything mentioned above.

Was in this restaurant for the first time. Very nice, clean facility. Cozy. My roasted salmon salad was like a child's portion. I've never had so little salmon on a salad. For this price... it's a shame.

Very delicious food. I haven't had a gyro like this in ages; it was absolutely delicious. I had a lamb shank myself. It was fantastic with eggplant and feta cheese. The tzatziki was really steamy. It was an all-around successful evening.

The service was really good, very friendly and polite. Top! We ordered a grilled platter, the liver was very dry, and the meat was generally grilled to death, so everything was dry except for the bifteki, which was a real shame. Unfortunately, card payments aren't accepted.

After a long time, I went to a restaurant with my husband to eat again. We always like to go to Greek places. For the first time since the owners took over this restaurant, we think it's nice and cozy. The service is incredibly friendly and you feel very comfortable. What struck us negatively this time was the industrially packaged sliced ​​bread that you get in bags in the supermarket. When I go out to eat and want to enjoy it, it just doesn't fit into the picture. For the same money you can get cheap baguettes in supermarkets or you can make your own. The fried ready-made Pitta and the balsamic dressing are similarly unpleasant. You have such a beautiful location there, you are so hospitable and personable, if such details were simply fresh and homemade or at least a little higher quality than these ready-made products, we would love to come much more often!

Recommendation: instead of fries (too many anyway) a few grilled potatoes or fried potatoes etc. Fries are for snack bars and kebab stalls. The portions are extremely large, perhaps the potatoes instead of fries make them a little smaller. Otherwise everything is very nice.

Be sure to reserve. We were surprised. It is a large, very well-attended Greek restaurant in Bad Kötzing. We had reserved with a dachshund and got a great table where not everyone had to walk past. The food was excellent, the quantity was almost unbearable. As expected, the dessert was fantastic and was twice as big as we know from Munich. The two of us did it. Since the restaurant was full, the really fast and friendly staff had a lot to do. Everyone should be aware that you have to wait a bit.

We quickly decided to have lunch in Acropolis. It was well attended, we didn't reserve a table but still managed to get a seat. However, it was pointed out that the food took a little longer, but it wasn't a problem for us. The staff had a lot of stress, but despite all of this they managed it well. It took a while for our food to arrive but we knew it. Thanks for the kindness.

The most modern Greek restaurant I've ever seen, wow

The restaurant did not meet our expectations. The starters (garlic bread and pepperoni) were good. The ouzo wasn't cold. The moussaka tasted overcooked and bland and was still cold inside. After the complaint I got my plate back, the edge was dirty with (I hope it was flour) (you can see in the photos). It was then even more overcooked than before. The waiter apologized briefly and kindly for the cold food, but nothing else came from the restaurant. Maybe a second ouzo at room temperature? What struck us negatively were the cutlery pockets. On the one hand, I find things very unhygienic (every guest touches them) and on the other hand, they were broken (photo). Something like that shouldn't go to the guest. In one of the photos you can see gyros gratinated with tomato rice and a large chipped spot in the plate. In my opinion no guest should receive something like that either. Our table was dirty on the edge (photo). When paying we expressed our criticism to the waitress, It wasn't until we left the restaurant that I received a short, verbal apology. There are two stars for the starters, the friendly, somewhat overwhelmed-looking young waiter and the ambience of the restaurant - modern, but still reminiscent of Greece.

Went there spontaneously yesterday at a slightly later hour and were immediately warmly welcomed and served. We had our drinks quickly and the food came quickly too. Chaotic... Drinks were a long time coming. Bread was missing for the starter. Salad bland and watery. Main course... fries completely without salt. 2nd round of drinks was completely forgotten. When we paid the bill we were accused of fraud because the lady couldn't count.

I was there for dinner. The atmosphere is very nice and in summer you can sit outside on a small terrace. Unfortunately the food is modest. I had the Samos plate with king prawns, baked calamari and tomato rice and garlic bread as a starter. The garlic bread had almost no garlic and was not crispy at all, as was the calamari, not a hint of crunch, just bland and greasy. Instead of at least two king prawns (the menu said plural, I would have expected several) I had a single prawn and it was anything but big. The portion of tomato rice was also embarrassingly small. All this for a price of €25 is really disappointing. What should be highlighted, however, is the extremely friendly and attentive service, the waiter sincerely wishes everyone a good appetite and you feel very comfortable. If the food worked, the restaurant would be great! A pity!
