Pizzeria La Grotta in Eschwege

Delicious pizza, but unfortunately, the price-performance ratio isn't right...the spicy oil, which you'd normally get with any Italian pizza, was charged €1.50...and to finish, the Ramazzotti per glass for €6.90...very odd for a former border region...

We went there for dinner and were unfortunately very disappointed. We ordered a seafood pizza and meat pasta, as well as a lasagna with a sauce that was completely oversalted. The pasta dish was originally advertised with red wine sauce, but I asked for an alternative. The dish still tasted bad – neither meat nor pasta. The pizza was barely edible and almost completely left unfinished. We politely addressed the issue, but they didn't respond or offer a solution. Instead, they just charged us as usual. It's a shame, as we were looking forward to a lovely evening.

We ate there on August 29, 2025. It's immediately clear that this pizzeria deserves its praise. We've never eaten a pizza like this before. The toppings are so delicious and the crust is superb. The service is very friendly. We highly recommend this pizzeria. If we're on holiday in Eschwege again next year, we'll definitely eat there again.

Friendly staff. Busy. The wood-fired pizza calzone picante was filling, hot, well-filled, and spicy.

We weren't satisfied. There was no non-alcoholic beer available. The two dishes were served 10 minutes apart. The prices were quite high for Eschwege: pizza 14.50 and pasta 17.50. The pizza was okay, very firm to the bite, while the pasta had a lot of greasy sauce and few vegetables. There are better restaurants within a 2-km radius with cheaper prices. The location on the busy street isn't so nice. I give it two points for the friendly service.

The food was unreasonably expensive and extremely greasy. My criticism wasn't really taken seriously. Even the friendly service couldn't make up for it. We won't be returning.

The pizzas were handmade and prepared fresh daily. Gluten-free pizza and pasta are even available. A dream for anyone with celiac disease. The service was friendly and attentive. All in all, a wonderful Italian experience!

After five days at Open Flair, visiting this pizzeria was the absolute highlight! I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the best pizza I've ever eaten. I'll be back for Open Flair next year, and I'll definitely be back here.

We visited this wonderful Italian restaurant last night based on the Google reviews and were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful: the welcome, the beautiful terrace with its gorgeous flowers, the friendly and attentive service, who served us burnt coffee to keep the bees away from our drinks, and the delicious pizza made with fresh ingredients. It was the best pizza I've ever eaten here. The price was very reasonable for the fresh taste and the service. Finding parking was a bit difficult because of the party. We'll definitely be back. There were five of us dining and we ordered three salmon and spinach pizzas. We received the pizzas without spinach because they were out of spinach. We weren't informed of this, however, and therefore had no option to choose a different pizza. I've never encountered such utter impudence before. I was absolutely shocked. Some toppings were simply left out of the other pizzas as well. There was also a €6 surcharge for a gluten-free pizza. There was no mention of this on the menu, and we weren't informed when ordering. I'm only giving it two stars because they occasionally asked if everything was okay. I would never eat here again.

We visited this restaurant last night for the first time, and certainly not for the last. From the moment we walked in, we felt completely at home. The young lady serving was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. You can tell she really enjoys her job. The food was truly delicious. The spaghetti, in particular, was a real highlight. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. You can simply taste the love and care that goes into the cooking. My friend's pizza dough was also really good. Light, crispy, and just like you'd expect from Italy. The atmosphere is cozy and invites you to just sit a little longer and enjoy the evening. Just a small comment: Some more traditional music in the background would have rounded off the lovely overall experience. Overall, we had a really lovely evening. Thank you very much, we'll definitely be back.

We've been here several times and tried a variety of dishes. In our experience, it's the best restaurant in Eschwege. The food was delicious, lovingly prepared, and everything was fresh. The atmosphere was like a short trip to Italy. The service was excellent, very friendly, and attentive to every detail. The wait time was acceptable. We'll definitely be back. Reservations are recommended.

We can't recommend this place. The staff was completely overwhelmed and had no plan. We had to wait 30 minutes for someone to take our drinks and food. The pizza arrived after an hour. The second drink we ordered never arrived, so we got it ourselves. No one came to pay either, so we had to leave ourselves. And then you could have called anything because they didn't even know where you were sitting or what you were having. Absolutely terrible.

Stylish Italian restaurant in downtown Eschwege. A cozy, sun-protected terrace with a view of the Werra River. Friendly service, a well-stocked menu and drinks selection. Fresh ingredients make for delicious dishes! We had a great time, and everyone enjoyed the food! We'll be happy to come back next time we're in Eschwege!

😡 We went to this restaurant with our family (including children) and were looking forward to a nice evening. We ordered a shrimp dish that wasn't cheap and only contained five shrimp—but we could accept that price. The worst part, however, was that the shrimp were spoiled. When we reported this to the owner, she said that you couldn't get fresh seafood in Germany anyway and blamed us for being too demanding. There was no refund, compensation, or replacement for the dish. This kind of treatment shows a complete lack of responsibility and respect. We will not visit this restaurant again and cannot recommend it to anyone who values ​​food quality and a service experience. 🙅🏻‍♀️

We ordered takeout. There was no proper bill, and the bill was significantly higher than stated on the menu. The pizza dough wasn't cooked through, and some of the toppings were very sparse. The calamari fritti were a joke for the price. I've had much better food there.

We ordered two pizzas and a small salad to take away – they told us we'd have to wait 20 minutes. After 60 minutes and endless questions from the visibly overwhelmed waitress, we finally received our order. Even the friendly lady at the bar intervened and remarked on her "embarrassing" behavior. That can all happen when the place is busy. However, it shouldn't happen that the waitress starts ranting in Italian with the chefs about the customers, saying they misunderstood the wait time she told us. However, we fondly remember the manager, who gave us a discount as compensation for the absurd wait.

Unfortunately, the shrimp we ordered at a high price were foul-smelling, and our legitimate request was rudely rejected by the manager. The food is not good; we won't be coming back.

Most things tasted good, the carpaccio was so-so. BUT, some of the ingredients weren't fresh, probably frozen for a long time. When we asked, the waitress became very rude and said something about how we might be used to something different, but it's not possible to make anything fresher in Germany. Even though some other restaurants in Eschwege are cheaper and fresher. The problem isn't the quality, which is acceptable overall, but the unfriendliness. We paid just under €40 per person, and you shouldn't be treated like that. We'll never go here again. P.S. The soap dispenser was filled with almost pure water (maybe liquid soap diluted 20 times).

I got a pizza to go and was thrilled. I didn't have to wait long, the staff is super friendly and the pizza was really delicious. Great dough, fresh ingredients.

The menu offers lots of unusual dishes. And if you don't book in advance, it can happen in the middle of the week that you don't get a seat. The service works, everything tastes perfect. In any case, this pizzeria is worth a visit.

The quality of the food and service is TOP, there is nothing to complain about. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, you feel like you are in good hands. Even if something goes wrong, it's actually no big deal. However, blocking the main entrance from the inside with a table is very counterproductive and seems very confusing or unwelcoming... especially to outsiders. It's a bit uncomfortable if you have to enter the restaurant through the back entrance. It is also confusing when the menu, including the numbering, changes very often. So you have to be careful that when you order (for pickup) according to the "old" menu, the dish and number still match.

Ein sehr gemütliches Lokal mit (zu) wenigen Tischen. Sehr geschmackvolle Tischgestaltung mit Stoffdecke, Tischläufern und echtem Blümchen in der Vase. Zuvorkommende aufmerksame und sehr freundliche Bedienung. Kurze Wartezeiten bei Essen und Getränken. Ganz offensichtlich ein gut organisierter und funktionierender Familienbetrieb. Das Essen war hervorragend und weit über das hinaus was man beim Italiener üblicherweie erwartet. Außerdem besonders erwähnenswert das weiße Hausdressing beim Salat und das Dessert im Töpfchen, dessen Namen wir leider vergessen haben. Die Preise erschienen uns angemessen. Ohne sehr frühzeitige Reservierung wird man (auch in der Woche) keinen Platz bekommen können. Warum die Nachfrage konstant so hoch ist kann man hier in den Bewertungen lesen.

Since the good soul of the house is no longer there, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Food is still good, but it doesn't come at the same time. When the waiter brings out the deposit box full of empty Volvic bottles - but there is only Aqua Morelli on the table - you become very suspicious.

Unfortunately the kitchen couldn't even serve 2 dishes at the same time. Ambiance too crowded and loud. In addition, very long waiting times (45 minutes for the starter, 75 minutes for the pizza). The temperature of the red wine was more like mulled wine. My partner also couldn't tolerate the food. Unfortunately not a nice experience.

Apparently the store is running, but how? If even the entrance area/door is lined with a table!! Then maybe you should put up a sign that says “The store is closed due to reservations” or “Closed for business”! In any case, I enjoyed my pizza somewhere else!

Both the ambience and the food were a delight! The starter, Votello Tonato, was light and tasted very good. But no pizza can compete with the king prawns on Zotrone. A dream! Highly recommended. My son had the Margherita pizza. The dough is crispy and the cheese has a wonderful taste and is nice to pull.

I recommend rump steak with Gorgonzola sauce.

Went there spontaneously today and felt really comfortable. The employees are very friendly and orders are served quickly. The pizzas are super tasty, thick fluffy edges and thin bases. We were there as a group of 5 with two vegans, which wasn't a problem at all as every pizza can also be ordered with vegan cheese. So there is something for everyone. Conclusion: Top quality, top service, top prices - clear recommendation

We were at La Grotta on a Saturday evening. The place was full, so it was very loud. The food was very tasty, unfortunately the pizzas only come in one size, 32cm, which is a lot for an evening. We shared a pizza, that was enough. There were large leftovers left at the next table, which is a shame. Maybe you should think about that and offer several sizes.

Very noisy, but the food is always great

It is quite strange because I have been there a lot of times but I could not even find any picture of the food :’(. I feel sorry about that but the reason is I was always directly going to eat when the food was served here. I can say they have the most impressive soup that made of mushroom and cream. I love the carbonara too because they have a very special schinken. The brocolli in oven with cheese is also very perfect.

So far everything is good. Starter was OK. Pizza was also tasty.

Even without having eaten a pizza anywhere else in Eschwege, it is almost certainly the best pizza in the city and the surrounding area. Fresh ingredients, delicious, fermented pizza dough. Not really relevant, but the pizza plate is also very nice. The other dishes ordered at neighboring tables also looked delicious. You sit comfortably and cozy in a “grotto-like” atmosphere with a very good lighting concept. The service was very nice, accommodating, friendly and polite, but not intrusive. Always busy, so reservations are highly recommended. Card payment possible, there are enough parking spaces in the area. The price is a little higher than the Eschweg average, but by no means expensive and a good price-performance ratio for the quality of the food and the peripherals.

Sehr gut gegessen, freundliche Bedienung

Super nette Bedienung, aber das Essen ist wirklich nicht gut. Die Pizza war sehr trocken, hatte sehr wenig Mozzarella drauf, zu viel Tomatensauce und zu viel Hefe im Teig. Eine Enttäuschung.

Das Essen war wirklich ausgezeichnet, ich war schon lange nicht mehr so gut italienisch essen!

Es war mein erster Besuch bei diesem Familienbetrieb, wo der Inhaber noch selber Pizza, Teig und Co. verarbeitet und zubereitet. Der bereits jahrelang ansässige Familienbetrieb ist sehr gut besucht gewesen, was für sich selbst spricht. Glutenfreie Optionen (Pasta & Pizza) werden ebenfalls angeboten. Die Auswahl an Speisen ist super, nicht zu viel, nicht zu wenig. Extra-Wünsche (z.B. Pizza halb-halb belegen lassen, werden ganz selbstverständlich umgesetzt). Vor Ort wurde ich behandelt, als wäre ich ein Stammgast, wenn nicht gar ein Mitglied der Familie. Ich werde definitiv wieder kommen und die weiteren Speisen genießen. Liebes Team von „la Grotta“, weiter so! Ich will bald wieder kommen, wenn ich wieder im „Umland“ von Eschwege bin.

Wir kamen ohne Reservierung und wurden sehr freundlich empfangen. Das Essen war super lecker und die Bedienung sehr nett. Wir durften den Nachtisch an der Theke aussuchen, sehr nett!

Essen wirklich sehr gut, Service sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Einzig, das die Bestuhlung etwas eng gestellt ist und die Geräuschkulisse schnell laut wirkt, da das Lokal eigentlich immer gut besucht ist. Aber eine tolle Gastronomie!

Einen super schönen Abend mit herrlichen Essen und super netten Bedienungen verbracht. Dieses Restaurant ist einfach klasse, gerne wieder.

Wir waren jetzt schon länger (ca. 3 Jahre) nicht mehr bei La Grotta & hatten es noch gut in Erinnerung. Diesmal haben wir etwas zum mitnehmen bestellt, zeitlich hat alles länger gedauert, als am Telefon mitgeteilt. Aber gut, es war Samstag. Geschmacklich waren die Pizzen (u.a. Frutti Di Mare) einen großen Enttäuschung. Sie haben wirklich nach nichts geschmeckt, weder der Belag noch die Tomatensauce. In dieser Preiskategorie erwartet man wirklich mehr!

Obwohl man an der Straße sitzt, hat man nicht das Gefühl "überfahren" zu werden. Der Service war sehr authentisch. Die Bedienung (Italienerin) sprach nicht so gut, was überhaupt kein Problem war. Durch ihre selbstbewusste und charmante Art, hatten wir eher das Gefühl in Italien zu sitzen. Das Essen war auch sehr lecker und es gab auch etwas ausgefallen Gerichte. Wir aßen Pizza und Nudeln scharf mit Hackfleisch....

Wir gehen hier sehr gern essen, es ist gemütlich, familiär, man wird immer sehr herzlich empfangen u.der Service als auch das Essen ist toll!!

Ich kann die ganzen positiven Rezensionen nicht nachvollziehen. Nach erstmal x-Anläufen hat man dann irgendwann jemanden erreicht, um einen Tisch reservieren zu können. Positiv war, weil bei der Reservierung draußen nichts mehr frei war, dann doch, nachdem wir mit 3 Personen an einen Tisch drinnen in eine Ecke gesetzt wurden, wo man noch nicht mal den Stuhl richtig zum Hinsetzen rausziehen konnte, Gott sei Dank, draußen doch etwas frei wurde. Hat schon ein bissi gedauert, bis die Getränke aufgenommen wurden, aber das ist ja "noch" ok. Die kamen auch relativ schnell... Wir haben erst noch gelacht, weil das große Mineralwasser eine 0,75l Flasche war, aber ist ein guter Tipp, diese zu nehmen, komme ich später noch mal zu. Allerdings war das Glas fürs Wasser innen gesprungen,hat dann 2 Personen und 30 Min gebraucht, um mal ein neues Glas zu bekommen. Auf das Essen haben wir über 1 Stunde gewartet. Geschmacklich hab ich definitiv schon wesentlich bessere Pizza gegessen. Ist auch komisch, dass an einem Samstag Abend beim Italiener um kurz vor 19 Uhr die Lasagne aus ist. Bevor die Pizza kam, wurde bei uns am Tisch erstmal das Besteck ausgetauscht...den Sinn versteh ich immer noch nicht, aber die Messer, die vorher da lagen, sahen schärfer aus. Gut, nachdem dann irgendwann das Essen da war, wir auch zwischendurch schon gemutmaßt haben, ob sie vlt nicht genug Geschirr haben, dass es deshalb so lange dauert, weil man warten muss, bis man das eigene Essen kommt, dass der vorherige Gast aufgegessen hat, der Service auch in der Zeit schon das erste Geschirr zerdeppert hat, waren von uns 3 Personen 2 fertig. Tja, eigentlich wartet man vlt, bis der Letzte am Tisch aufgegessen hat oder fertig signalisiert, wurde das Geschirr schon abgeräumt... Ok... Liegt vlt daran, wie erwähnt, dass die Teller knapp sind. Gipfel war aber, dass unserer dritten Person eigentlich quasi während dem Essen, obwohl sie noch am Kauen war, noch 1 Stück auf dem Teller lag, dieser auch schon vom Service weggeräumt werden wollte. Sie musste sagen, ich bin noch nicht fertig ich esse das noch. Geht gaaaar nicht. Bestellte Getränke kamen auch nicht nach. Halbe Stunde mit Erinnerung für ne Cola ist heftig. Vorallem bei der Wärme ein No go. Deshalb ist das große Wasser eine gute Wahl, da hat man erstmal was. Leere Gläser wurden mit dem Teller abgeräumt, aber es fragt auch keiner mehr, ob man noch etwas möchte. Nach knapp ner 3/4 Std lustiger Gespräche nach dem Essen haben wir schon gesagt, wir müssen die, wenn die nochmal raus kommt, wegen der Rechnung ansprechen... Kommt ja keiner mehr... Just in dem Moment rufen die Gäste vom Nachbartisch im Restaurant an, dass sie ja draußen sitzen und gern nochmal was zu trinken hätten. Kam auch nach 10 Minuten jemand, obwohl es ja peinlich genug ist, dass Gäste vom Außenbereich anrufen müssen, weil sie noch gerne Getränke hätten, aber die anderen Tische waren halt auch vlt vorrangiger, wo sich der Service aufgehalten hat. Hätten diese Gäste am Nachbartisch lassen sollen, weil die Getränke erstmal auf der Hose eines Gastes an dem Tisch gelandet sind. Also nicht nur Teller lernen da schnell fliegen... Es klirrt schon öfter. Der Weg zu den Toiletten ist gruselig, sehr in die Jahre gekommen, schien auch sehr dreckig. behinderten unfreundlich. Die Damen WC Kabinenbereiche sind neu, der Rest schon sehr renovierungsbedürftig. Resümee... Die Gesellschaft und die Situationskomik hat einen schönen Abend drauß gemacht, aaaaaaber das Restaurant im Gesamten ist max auf 1 Stern... Wir waren 1x da, das reicht aber auch, um zu sagen, nie wieder! Der Name passt... Leider echt grottig schlecht. Sorry liebes Team, da habt Ihr ganz schön viel Luft nach oben... Das geht besser!!!

Essen super Lecker. Kleine Karte aber definitiv ausreichend. Personal ist sehr nett und aufmerksam. Klare Empfehlung für einen genussvollen Abend.

Rundum perfekt und immer wieder toll 🤩

Leider eine absolute Enttäuschung. Haben für 17:30 reserviert, obwohl das Lokal vor Ort erst um 18 Uhr öffnet. Nach der Wartezeit hat uns der Service unfreundlich und unprofessionell empfangen. Anschließend saß an unseren reservierten Tisch, bereits eine Frau. Als Krönung wurden wir an den selben Tisch, mit dem anderen Gast, gesetzt. Für beide Parteien unangenehm. Essenstechnisch dennoch gut👍🏻

Wir kommen jedes Jahr zum Open Flair in dieses schöne Restaurant. Das leckere Essen und der freundliche Service sind immer wieder ein Highlight. Wir freuen uns jetzt schon auf's nächste Jahr! ❤️

Die Reservierung per Telefon ist von 13:30 - 14:00 Uhr, während der Öffnungszeiten, für abends nicht möglich gewesen, da keine Person das Telefonat entgegengenommen hat. Das empfinde ich als sehr bedauerlich und nicht kundenfreundlich.

Waren mit einer 5er Gruppe da und haben ohne Reservierung problemlos einen Tisch bekommen 👍🏽Ich bin selber in der Gastronomie tätig und ziehe meinen, Hut Vor und Hauptgänge waren geschmacklich einwandfrei und sehr Authentisch. Service war sehr freundlich und hat jeden Wunsch erfüllt wir kommen gerne wieder vielen Dank 😁

Das Essen war lecker, mit frischen Zutaten, bei den großen Makkaroni mit Champions und Brokkoli hätten es gerne paar mehr Pilze sein dürfen... Bedienung schien etwas muffelig zu sein, es wurde bei der Bestellung des Beilagensaltes nicht nachgefragt welches Dressing man möchte, statt Alkohol freiem Radler kam Alkoholfreies Bier... daher ein ⭐️ abzug... Preisleistung völlig okay

Wir waren nur auf der Durchreise und wollten, statt im Subway in der Pizzeria essen gehen. Das man auf einen Hauptgang auch mal 40 min warten muss ist okay. Aber es waren über 1.5h. Auf unsere Nachfrage (weil es ja passieren kann) ob sie evtl mal schauen könnte was mit dem Essen ist, kam kurze Zeit später die ältere Dame mit den Speisen und sagte nur patzig, wir machen alle Speisen frisch! Schade finden wir sehr, den Umgangston. Weil ja auch Gäste nach uns, schon essen bekamen. Das essen war hingegen total lecker. Die WC Räume und die allgemeine Hygiene, hatte sicher schon mal bessere Zeiten.

Super leckeres Essen. Sehr zu empfehlen. Nette Bedienung Preis /Leistung stimmt Alles perfekt Leider haben sich nicht nur die Preise geändert . Pizza ist nicht mehr die die sie war . Messer Stumpf Bedienung hat in letzter Zeit schlechte Laune
