Pizzeria Castello in Cochem

Castello Cochem was a great recommendation from a local, especially since we were visiting early in the year when not much else was open. It’s a cozy Italian spot with genuinely friendly staff who make you feel right at home. The pizza was pretty good, and the pasta was delicious rich, flavorful, and clearly freshly made. Overall, a warm and welcoming place with great food. Four stars!

When you dine at a restaurant and the experience turns out to be a nightmare, that's one thing!? When you receive a rude response to a negative review instead of an apology from the owners, that's downright pathetic!? This only confirms our claim that we were treated unfriendly there, of course!? A consolation for the owners: We weren't really planning on visiting your place again either. ****update***** Apparently, the rude response from this establishment had disappeared; I've put it back, because future customers should be warned.

Price quality ok. Nice but a lot of noise

We ordered a variety of dishes, from classic pizza to fish. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was absolutely top-notch; there's no other way to describe it. Despite the restaurant being busy, the food arrived very quickly and was served very nicely. The food was tasty. The pizza was good, as was the fish. The pasta dishes were okay, but nothing special, to be honest. As a starter, we were served a portion of pizza rolls—three rolls and three dip portions for four people, which was a bit odd. All in all, a good restaurant with good food, a great atmosphere, and very friendly staff.

We arrived very late in the afternoon and were treated with such love and hospitality. The food was delicious and the decor was so charming. Thank you!

At the Castello, you can enjoy excellent, affordable food at any time of the year. Reservations are recommended. The chef serves the food himself. The ambiance is quaint and cozy. The tables and chairs are rustic and fit perfectly into this vaulted cellar. If you're in Cochem, you should definitely eat there. Very friendly staff and highly recommended.

A visit to Castello is a must for any short break in Cochem. Great atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food.

I'm sorry to say this, but for me, this is a normal pizzeria when it comes to food. The atmosphere is nice. A pizza here costs around 14 euros. I had pasta with prawns in tomato sauce for around 20 euros. The dish tasted like pasta with passata. I won't order it again, but I'll give you a pizza. We also ordered a 0.5 liter of wine for around 12 euros. Overall, it was a lovely evening with friends. We sat upstairs on the terrace and had a great time.

Reservations are absolutely necessary—but it's totally worth it. Delicious food, delicious wine, beautiful ambiance, and super friendly staff.

The food was good, but it was quite busy and therefore it took quite a while for the food to be served.

The highly rated pizzeria was a bit of a disappointment. The ambiance is cozy, but also relatively dark and cramped, as it was probably once a wine cellar. The waiter was very serious and lacked friendliness. We had bruschetta for starters, and it was a complete disappointment. The bread was cold and soft, and lacked olive oil and garlic. The pasta dishes were okay, but only a C+ by school standards. We'll cook for ourselves again on our next short trip.

October 22, 2024 update: Today, a year later, I was here again. The text below is still valid. In fact, the guests are now waiting outside. What a fantastic Italian restaurant. Very good and inexpensive pizzas. At the time of writing, a nice pitcher of wine for €6.50. No internet reception. The atmosphere is really great. Super fun and atmospheric. A tip: the tables are a bit low, so no one has to cross their legs. Do book in advance because it fills up quickly. That says it all.

Beautiful place, but poor service. They didn't refill the wine, didn't ask if it was good, didn't ask about dessert, and so on. They also stood next to our table waiting for us to finish our meal, and we felt like we were constantly being watched. Not exactly pleasant to eat like that.

Without a reservation, there was only room on the "outside terrace." But it turned out to be a secluded outdoor terrace with fires, so it was nice and warm and cozy. ☺️ The broccoli rigatoni was very flavorful, and the porcini tagliatelle was also very good.

Unassuming from the outside, the interior is quaint and cozy. Advance reservations are recommended. Service is competent, friendly, and fast. The dishes are plentiful and delicious. A highly recommended place in Cochem. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

During a visit to Cochem about five or six years ago, I saw this restaurant while walking to Reichsburg Castle and had a pizza there, which I thoroughly enjoyed. About ten days ago, when I crossed paths again in Cochem, I visited again and had a mushroom pizza. Since I went in the evening during a busy time, I had to wait a reasonable amount of time to be seated, but that's completely understandable. I was very pleased with the service, the atmosphere, and the delicious pizza. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to sit and dine, friendly staff. A bit cramped seating. The food was plentiful, but unfortunately, there was only one shrimp in the fish pasta, and the lasagna was a bit salty. The children's pasta with ravioli, on the other hand, was delicious! Child-friendly staff and quick service.

Before the pizza, we were greeted by a welcome from the kitchen. Small pizza rolls with a delicious dip. 👌😋. I ordered the pizza with ground beef and onions. I was a bit disappointed. Very wide, firm pizza crust...very little ground beef. Plenty of onions. You had to search for the cheese. Tasted very bland. Tasted

Just had dinner here. I initially doubted whether this was the right place based on some older reviews. But as an experienced restaurant-goer, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The welcome was friendly, even though we hadn't booked in advance. A nice, quiet table for two. The service was attentive, with a roll and butter as a starter. We shared a salad as a starter, and the staff politely asked if we wanted the salad first or alongside the main course. For the main course, we had tagiatello al salmone and tortelloni con spinach. Very affordable, with an espresso afterward. The staff speaks excellent German but even better Italian. The accommodation is in a cozy vaulted cellar, and the interior is basic Italian, typical of Mamma cuisine, with wooden tables and chairs. If we can manage it, we'll go back later this week.

Unfortunately, I got a stomachache... The food was delicious, but it was very busy. When we left, there was a line outside with people who had made reservations. I first got a salad with the wrong sauce, and then I was happy to be offered a gluten-free pizza. When it arrived, I checked with the waitress if it was actually gluten-free. She said yes. It was delicious, too good to be gluten-free. 😅 But it was homemade, so I guess it was. As a result, I spent the night crying in the bathroom with a stomachache. Delicious food, but for dieters, I can only recommend it if it's quiet. I'll be bothered by this for a while. I'll be cooking my own pizza again tonight. My son preferred my lasagna. 🤣

Landed here after a four-hour hike, extremely hungry. We didn't receive a friendly welcome, but at least the unfriendly person we asked for a table for two didn't roll his eyes. At least not visibly... 😅 At least the female staff was relatively attentive and friendly. But: This was truly the worst pizza I've eaten in years! The sauce was unseasoned; the peppers, mushrooms (judging by their condition, frozen), eggplant, and zucchini were sliced ​​way too thick, making the pizza watery. Combined with the film of oil on it, it wasn't visually appealing. Throwing food away is really awful, but it was really hard to eat. Absolutely never again!

A really good tip from our vacation rental landlord. A winner for value in the otherwise very over-the-top Cochem. The ambiance is beautiful, with its old vaulted ceiling and matching decor, simply fantastic and therefore worth more than 5 stars 🤩. The pizza 🍕 is a top-notch, super light, well-topped, and very crispy crust. The baked pasta, on the other hand, was of a good standard, lacking in flavor. The service was relaxed, prompt, but somehow very serious. This somewhat lackluster attitude seems to pervade the staff at all locations in Cochem. A smile or grin 😀 now and then would have been nice. All in all, it was definitely worth staying here.

A hidden gem in Cochem. The food, good well-cooked Italian food, created a little seasoning and there was no salt and pepper offered at the table. But well-cooked, tasty overall it was still! The service was ok, seemed to be a bit novice slm working as service staff, there were some questions they could not answer when it comes to drink options. We sat on their nice terrace where it was nice to breeze during this hot summer day.

We specifically visited this restaurant because of the many good reviews. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as expected. The Margherita pizza was overloaded with cheese and had no seasoning. It tasted average, but nothing more. The lasagna Bolognese was not good at all. The ground beef couldn't possibly have been fresh. It tasted "thawed" and wasn't particularly good. The lasagna dish was only about half full. The ambiance was okay, but also very dark. Later, we saw that there was also a terrace for outdoor seating...we hadn't known that, and we were invited straight into the dark dining room. One server was friendly, the other very taciturn and a bit grumpy.

We were very happy with this restaurant that’s tucked away from the touristy area. I read it was one of the best places to go to in Cochem and after trying food at many places in Cochem this place definitely is better than the rest. We didn’t make a reservation because we weren’t sure of our schedule. Instead we walked in and asked if we could get a reservation for about 45 minutes later. I could tell it was very busy but the owner took down my name. We took a very pleasant walk to the castle and returned to the restaurant. We were asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating and were seated right away. Our drinks, appetizers, and food all came out in a timely manner and with a smile. All four of us were happy with our dishes (pasta, pizza, carpaccio, baked pasta). We ordered a couple limoncello and did not feel rushed to leave, even though no one was left on the terrace. When we walked downstairs to pay we were offered by the owner another limoncello. I was surprised with some recent poor reviews since we were just there days ago, but then I feel like some people don’t have an understanding of kindness and patience when going to a restaurant. If you look around you’ll see staff and the owner aren’t being rude, they are extremely busy…notice the difference. If you’re kind to people, most always they’re kind back to you.

Eight of us dined at Castello and it was a wonderful experience. The Pizza Castello is highly recommended! We all tried different dishes, including the Rigatoni Quattro Formaggi, each perfectly prepared and of high quality. We received a basket of bread on the house as a starter, a lovely gesture. The service was prompt and friendly, and the location, in an old wine cellar, completes the experience. The decor is stylish, and there's a clear eye for detail. Everything went smoothly and quickly. In short: a delicious meal, excellent service, and a beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended.

I ate here two times during our vacation in cochem. The first night, I had spaghetti bolognese, and my friend had pizza fungi . Before our food, we got two pieces of bread as a starter, like every table. The pasta was good. The pizza was floppy, and everything fell off it. She didn't enjoy it. Felt like it wasn't fully cooked yet. service the first night was good. most of them spoke english and even dutch. we sat upstairs on the terrace. The second night, we started upstairs on the terrace again.We started with Bruchetta and tomato soup. before we even got our food wasp, we were flying around us and other tables. my friend who gets really sick if she is stung by a wasp or a bee. They were flying near us more and I got stung two times. We asked if we could move downstairs cause my friendcouldn'tt get stung or she ger sick. The girl said shed ask. Then our starters came alrsady. and while every other table got the two pieces of bread again, we didn't. The man I presume is the owner. He was looking upstairs again and saw us still sitting there. he spoke Dutch and English the day before but now only spoke German. The nice waiter took our food. we had to take our stuff downstairs while also carrying our bottles and glasses and also the plate with our cutlery. we could sit at a table downstairs. This time, I ordered pasta Arrabiatta with cheese and my friend, the Bolognese. the spice level next to the arrabiata said 2/20. when we got our food. it looked really good. My pasta was so spicy that I'm scared for spicy level twenty. my friend liked the bolognese, but her portion was too big, bigger than I had the day before. i didn't like the pasta cause my mouth was on fire and burning. my glas was empty before I even had a quarter of the food. I found chunks of cut up red pepper in there. we didn't get asked if everything was okay we didn't get asked if we wanted another drink , nothing. servers seemed to not pay attention to our table. the presumed owner seemed grumpy and annoyed. not a good 2nd day. had to get milk at a store cause my mouth was still on fire won't be going here again.

We happened to hear from other day-trippers that there was a delicious Italian restaurant a bit further out, so we stopped in and were more than pleasantly surprised. Greeted by friendly staff, we luckily snagged one of the last available tables in a lovely setting. The food we ordered (pasta and pizza) didn't arrive reheated and within minutes, as we've experienced at other restaurants in Cochem, but was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. Both were truly delicious, making Ristorante Castello an absolute insider tip for us. Why other restaurants have significantly higher rankings is a complete mystery to us. We'll definitely be back!

We were passing through Cochem, and since the restaurants downstairs seemed to be mostly tourist traps, we quickly approached a very friendly local and asked for a recommendation for a good dinner, and she recommended the Castello. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and quick. We are very grateful to the lady for her recommendation :)

Well-frequented restaurant. But we were lucky to get a table! Fast service and good pizzas. The spaghetti wasn't quite as good, but I think that depends more on what you're used to. The price was also very good. Food for two adults, two children, and a drink each came to around €50.

We ate that at lunchtime on the Terrace. It was nice enough to be somewhere outside wasn’t the Mossell river vibe we were looking for. However, we could see the basement seller that looked really nice if we’d gone there in the evening. Definitely would recommend to go there in the evening when the vibe would be all happening.

Neither my partner nor I were satisfied. Several people recommended this restaurant, which set the bar too high for us. We both went home with stomach aches, so we won't be returning.

As a local, I used to eat at Castello frequently and, above all, quite happily for years. The owner often seemed irritated and curt, but we knew each other, even professionally (my former business regularly repairs kitchen utensils). Our relationship was always good... until I sent back a wine spritzer that wasn't wine (no wine, just water). I politely (!) told the female waitress that the wine was missing; it can happen. Then the owner came to my table, leaned casually on the back of the chair and the table, and leaned slightly over me, which, no joke, seemed a bit threatening, and asked me smugly, "So you're not satisfied with my wine spritzer?" I thought I was losing my faith. I haven't been back in that place since. It's like all restaurants in Cochem: there are enough tourists, so you don't have to rely on locals. Cochem is a service desert 🙈

We were looking for a reputable restaurant because of the bad reviews about restaurants (in general) in Cochem. That's when we found this Italian restaurant. It's located just outside the busy, touristy streets of Cochem. We were able to sit outside on the terrace without a reservation, with our dog. The service was okay, could be better, but ultimately, we were helped well. We had a starter, a main course, and a bottle of wine, and everything tasted great. It's just a shame that we were just finishing our starter and the main course arrived. This made it a bit awkward, as our plates were still on the table. So, it might be a good idea to indicate that you'd like a bit more time between the starter and the main course. All in all, a lovely restaurant with delicious food in a great location!
