Nice Italian restaurant. Friendly service. Good pizza and pasta.

We were very happy with this restaurant that’s tucked away from the touristy area. I read it was one of the best places to go to in Cochem and after trying food at many places in Cochem this place definitely is better than the rest. We didn’t make a reservation because we weren’t sure of our schedule. Instead we walked in and asked if we could get a reservation for about 45 minutes later. I could tell it was very busy but the owner took down my name. We took a very pleasant walk to the castle and returned to the restaurant. We were asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating and were seated right away. Our drinks, appetizers, and food all came out in a timely manner and with a smile. All four of us were happy with our dishes (pasta, pizza, carpaccio, baked pasta). We ordered a couple limoncello and did not feel rushed to leave, even though no one was left on the terrace. When we walked downstairs to pay we were offered by the owner another limoncello. I was surprised with some recent poor reviews since we were just there days ago, but then I feel like some people don’t have an understanding of kindness and patience when going to a restaurant. If you look around you’ll see staff and the owner aren’t being rude, they are extremely busy…notice the difference. If you’re kind to people, most always they’re kind back to you.

Eight of us dined at Castello and it was a wonderful experience. The Pizza Castello is highly recommended! We all tried different dishes, including the Rigatoni Quattro Formaggi, each perfectly prepared and of high quality. We received a basket of bread on the house as a starter, a lovely gesture. The service was prompt and friendly, and the location, in an old wine cellar, completes the experience. The decor is stylish, and there's a clear eye for detail. Everything went smoothly and quickly. In short: a delicious meal, excellent service, and a beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended.

I ate here two times during our vacation in cochem. The first night, I had spaghetti bolognese, and my friend had pizza fungi . Before our food, we got two pieces of bread as a starter, like every table. The pasta was good. The pizza was floppy, and everything fell off it. She didn't enjoy it. Felt like it wasn't fully cooked yet. service the first night was good. most of them spoke english and even dutch. we sat upstairs on the terrace. The second night, we started upstairs on the terrace again.We started with Bruchetta and tomato soup. before we even got our food wasp, we were flying around us and other tables. my friend who gets really sick if she is stung by a wasp or a bee. They were flying near us more and I got stung two times. We asked if we could move downstairs cause my friendcouldn'tt get stung or she ger sick. The girl said shed ask. Then our starters came alrsady. and while every other table got the two pieces of bread again, we didn't. The man I presume is the owner. He was looking upstairs again and saw us still sitting there. he spoke Dutch and English the day before but now only spoke German. The nice waiter took our food. we had to take our stuff downstairs while also carrying our bottles and glasses and also the plate with our cutlery. we could sit at a table downstairs. This time, I ordered pasta Arrabiatta with cheese and my friend, the Bolognese. the spice level next to the arrabiata said 2/20. when we got our food. it looked really good. My pasta was so spicy that I'm scared for spicy level twenty. my friend liked the bolognese, but her portion was too big, bigger than I had the day before. i didn't like the pasta cause my mouth was on fire and burning. my glas was empty before I even had a quarter of the food. I found chunks of cut up red pepper in there. we didn't get asked if everything was okay we didn't get asked if we wanted another drink , nothing. servers seemed to not pay attention to our table. the presumed owner seemed grumpy and annoyed. not a good 2nd day. had to get milk at a store cause my mouth was still on fire won't be going here again.

We happened to hear from other day-trippers that there was a delicious Italian restaurant a bit further out, so we stopped in and were more than pleasantly surprised. Greeted by friendly staff, we luckily snagged one of the last available tables in a lovely setting. The food we ordered (pasta and pizza) didn't arrive reheated and within minutes, as we've experienced at other restaurants in Cochem, but was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. Both were truly delicious, making Ristorante Castello an absolute insider tip for us. Why other restaurants have significantly higher rankings is a complete mystery to us. We'll definitely be back!

We were passing through Cochem, and since the restaurants downstairs seemed to be mostly tourist traps, we quickly approached a very friendly local and asked for a recommendation for a good dinner, and she recommended the Castello. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and quick. We are very grateful to the lady for her recommendation :)

Well-frequented restaurant. But we were lucky to get a table! Fast service and good pizzas. The spaghetti wasn't quite as good, but I think that depends more on what you're used to. The price was also very good. Food for two adults, two children, and a drink each came to around €50.

We ate that at lunchtime on the Terrace. It was nice enough to be somewhere outside wasn’t the Mossell river vibe we were looking for. However, we could see the basement seller that looked really nice if we’d gone there in the evening. Definitely would recommend to go there in the evening when the vibe would be all happening.

Neither my partner nor I were satisfied. Several people recommended this restaurant, which set the bar too high for us. We both went home with stomach aches, so we won't be returning.

As a local, I used to eat at Castello frequently and, above all, quite happily for years. The owner often seemed irritated and curt, but we knew each other, even professionally (my former business regularly repairs kitchen utensils). Our relationship was always good... until I sent back a wine spritzer that wasn't wine (no wine, just water). I politely (!) told the female waitress that the wine was missing; it can happen. Then the owner came to my table, leaned casually on the back of the chair and the table, and leaned slightly over me, which, no joke, seemed a bit threatening, and asked me smugly, "So you're not satisfied with my wine spritzer?" I thought I was losing my faith. I haven't been back in that place since. It's like all restaurants in Cochem: there are enough tourists, so you don't have to rely on locals. Cochem is a service desert 🙈

The grilled vegetables on the pizza were delicious. The space has a pleasant atmosphere, but feels a bit cramped due to the low ceiling and lack of windows.

We just discovered this restaurant on Friday. We were in Cochem for the weekend. After a very good and delicious meal, we returned on Saturday. I can only highly recommend it. Very friendly service, a great atmosphere inside and on the terrace—everything was perfect. We'll definitely be going back again.

We were looking for a reputable restaurant because of the bad reviews about restaurants (in general) in Cochem. That's when we found this Italian restaurant. It's located just outside the busy, touristy streets of Cochem. We were able to sit outside on the terrace without a reservation, with our dog. The service was okay, could be better, but ultimately, we were helped well. We had a starter, a main course, and a bottle of wine, and everything tasted great. It's just a shame that we were just finishing our starter and the main course arrived. This made it a bit awkward, as our plates were still on the table. So, it might be a good idea to indicate that you'd like a bit more time between the starter and the main course. All in all, a lovely restaurant with delicious food in a great location!

We were in Cochem for a short break and went to the Castello on our second evening. The food was very good, and we received a friendly welcome and courteous service. The Castello is modeled after a wine cellar. The ambiance is lovely. However, it was very crowded and accordingly noisy. The Castello is worth a visit.

We ate at Castello the day before yesterday. It seemed very busy, but luckily we had a reservation. We were assigned a small table on the terrace. The service was friendly and quick. The food came very quickly too. We had a pizza with minced meat and a pasta dish with broccoli sauce. Unfortunately, the pizza wasn't pre-sliced, so we had to slice it with a relatively blunt knife. Unfortunately, the seasoning was very bland. The pasta was good and there was plenty of it. Unfortunately, the hectic waiters made us feel like we had to finish quickly so the table would be free for the next guests. What a shame!

Top service, very nice cellar and delicious pizzas - original!

With a bit of luck we managed to get a table for two without a reservation. We ordered a white wine and an aperitif from the house in advance. As a starter the antipasti misto for 2. Great portion, everything fresh and tasty. As a main course the steak with gorgonzola sauce and the large shrimps in tomato sauce with garlic. As a side dish pasta and salad. Again everything was well seasoned, fresh and the steak was really perfectly cooked. For dessert panna cotta and tartufo. Both tasty, but served a bit simply. The panna cotta in particular was a meager portion. Especially when you consider that you pay €7 for it. In terms of ingredients and preparation time it costs very little. With the main course I also had the red house wine. Great wine, nothing to complain about. By the way, I always have the house wine everywhere and always. A restaurant that takes itself seriously simply serves a great house wine that is sufficient. That was also the case here. The coffee afterwards was also good. Only a pity about the Lidl-choco voucher that was served with it. They are tasty, but I really don't think that is acceptable. Then give them a simple Italian biscuit. I would say there was plenty of choice. The room where we were seated was a cellar vault. Very atmospheric in itself, but when fully occupied it became a bit noisy. The service seemed to be stressed the entire evening and therefore came across as feignedly cordial. In my opinion, the boss who was walking along in the service was constantly criticizing his staff and that created a somewhat tense atmosphere. Since I originally come from the hospitality industry, I can sense that kind of thing. The service was otherwise friendly and quick. Don't expect an explanation of dishes, drinks, etc. It's just bringing orders from A to B and that's it. All in all, we had a great evening. The kitchen ran like a well-oiled machine and provided quite a few tasty dishes on the table. I can't judge whether it was all authentic Italian, but it was definitely delicious!

A very hyped pizzeria, but why? We wanted to know. It's hard to get a seat there, but we managed. The owner (who apparently can't stand criticism, which will probably become apparent immediately after this review; see other reviews that weren't entirely positive) seemed more annoyed than friendly when new guests came in. The staff was young and friendly; they did their best. So, kudos to them. The ambiance is okay; we were on the terrace upstairs. It's just average; part of the terrace was covered with a plastic cover. There must have been a reason for that, but this one wasn't so great on a warm day. We had two pizzas, which were okay, but unfortunately very oily. Why? They were also very tasteless. The salad is also very poorly presented. Unfortunately, all the dishes there are very oily. And yes, I know Italian cuisine very well; it's not like that there. Quantity instead of quality, that's the feeling you get: in and out quickly. I don't want a red carpet, I just want a friendly welcome, a delicious meal. And a criticism that's accepted for once. Sorry, it's no fun like this. With that in mind, take a deep breath and accept some criticism somehow without being offensive. Thanks to your staff.

During our Eifel vacation, we also visited Cochem – the Castello restaurant was recommended to us by our hosts. During our visit, we were very impressed by the ambiance; we sat on the outdoor terrace in perfect weather. So far, so good. However, the pizzas we ordered were only very average: lightly seasoned, rather bland, and not crispy enough on top (for our taste)...

I'm shocked at the previous reviews! This is not an Italian it's a money making machine and not very good at that. The best thing in this "italian" was the German beer. We sat down at the table and within ten minutes we had a homemade lasagne, freshly cooked pizza, tuna salad really! Forty minutes later we left 49 Euros lighter and really disappointed!

We were there last year and this year. The service and atmosphere were really top-notch, but unfortunately, the food is comparable to that of a regular city pizzeria. The pizza lacks oregano, and the onions are sometimes carelessly placed in quarters. Overall, Cochem is a decent place to eat out.

The food, service, and prices were okay, but I didn't think an Italian restaurant serving an Aperol Spritz in a regular juice glass was particularly stylish. There wasn't much of an Italian feel here, but you could eat together in a relaxed atmosphere.

Great Italian food on a lovely balcony terras! Castello has a great variaty of pizza's and pasta's to choose from. I went for the gnocchi pomodoro, which came plated in a beautiful big deep bowl. The gnocchi melted in your mouth and went perfectly with the aromatic tomato sauce. Everything was very affordable and of good quality. Our server started in fluent italian (very fun, but) which none of my friends understood anything from. When he found out we were from the Netherlands he actually started speaking Dutch to us. The only bummer was that at multible tables around us, people were smoking, causing the entire terras to smell. Very unappatizing :/

MEGA! Super delicious, generous portion sizes, lovely terrace, quiet location. It was hard to decide because the menu is so great. Daily specials are also available. Absolutely recommended. Don't go to the shops on the promenade, go here instead.

The ambiance and location were very nice. We got a table right away in a very busy restaurant, and the food arrived promptly. The portion sizes were generous for the price, while the drink prices were a bit excessive. The quality of the food was good, but the taste was only average; the pizza had too many toppings, which meant the flavor was a bit drowning.

Very tasty food (and quick, too). The prosciutto pizza and No. 53 (pasta 😅 Fungi Gamberetti) are definitely recommended. The service was also excellent. And the prices were absolutely reasonable. I can't say much about the ambiance inside; we sat on the terrace. But it was covered with transparent "tarpaulins" and pleasantly warm. If we come back to the area on our next vacation, we'll eat here again. 😃

Very good Italian cuisine. The food is like being in Italy. A bit off the promenade, but definitely worth the visit. Established in Cochem for decades, it's always a good idea to reserve a table in advance.

Food was decent nothing special. The location and atmosphere is pretty neat. Need reservation due to space constraints otherwise you get pushed out before finishing your meal.

Our host recommended it and it has a high review rating! My gut call after reading reviews prior to going said we should go somewhere else but we gave it a try! Unfortunately the food was bland and not prepared the usual way for Italian food. My husband got the tagliatelle with shrimp and mushrooms and although the pasta looked good the sauce wasn’t! The shrimp were tiny ! I got the lasagna and although the sauce tasted okay the hamburger was cooked separately and layered plain in between the pasta with nothing else! The hamburger was so boring and had not cooked in any type of sauce before being layered into the dish! I have never seen this anywhere! The salad was weird and had canned tasteless olives! Bottled water was €7 ! They would be better off to charge more for their meals and use some better ingredients! Service and atmosphere was good but the food was not good! Don’t waste your money! No pictures is always an indication of my experience! Not sure how this restaurant has such a high rating!

Nice Italian restaurant in a wine cellar setting near the Reichsburg castle. We visited the establishment with a group of 30+ people. The staff were friendly and professional. Ordering was quick and easy, as was the preparation and delivery of the dishes, despite the large group. The food was overall very delicious, and the desserts, especially the homemade tiramisu, are highly recommended. The price is average for the offerings. The food is rated 4/5 only because, despite giving the pizza a 5/5 rating, I felt the tomato sauce lacked flavor.

Top experience at Castello – highly recommended! We spontaneously walked into Castello without a reservation, and despite it being busy, we were immediately welcomed in a friendly manner and given a nice table downstairs. The service was quick and very attentive, and we immediately felt welcome. The pizzas were delicious – crispy base, fresh ingredients, prepared in a truly Italian way. For us, this is definitely a place to return to. Perhaps even the best pizzeria in the entire region. Highly recommended for anyone who loves real Italian flavors!

The service was good, but I sadly cannot in good conscience recommend it beyond that. The food was edible, not offensive, but also not at all interesting or tasty. We both regretted eating here. We went here because it was one of the highest rated in the town, but seemingly this town is just not a culinary destination.

After the good review, we visited the restaurant on foot during our visit to Cochem. It's a little outside the center, but still easily accessible. A large table was kindly put together for us - nice service. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was somewhat clouded: Although the restaurant was not very full, the waiters were noticeably rushed around the dining room, which created a restless and somewhat tense atmosphere. This unnecessary “quick, quick” took some of the comfort out of the visit. The food was quite good, the decor was tasteful. However, the price is not exactly cheap.

Edit: Feel free to read the answer(s) from the owner, then you might know what kind of host you are dealing with here. I've really never seen anything like that. My answer: The restaurant wasn't so full that they couldn't have noticed us. There were two women standing in the counter area who ignored us. We really don't have any great expectations and are happy to wait a while, but here there wasn't even the minimum level of service or friendliness. There is also zero ability to criticize here. Unfortunately our visit was rather disappointing. As soon as we arrived we had to stand in the entrance area for several minutes - no one paid us any attention, we honestly felt like we had been ordered and not picked up. Things didn't get any better at the table. It took over 10 minutes for anyone to even take our order. Drinks didn't come until 15 minutes later along with the food. We are really not demanding when it comes to service but we were treated like second class guests. The neighboring table, apparently acquaintances of the house, was constantly looked after - no one showed up after dinner. No request for more drinks, no interest in whether we might want something else. We only got the bill because we made intensive eye contact, even though the restaurant was already pretty empty at the time. It couldn't have been due to a lack of staff or stress. The food was okay, but definitely not something we would go back for. The ambience is nice, but it was also incredibly loud at first because we were sitting near the kitchen and a waitress was emptying and stacking used dishes right behind us. Our expectations were really higher because of the positive reviews. But when I read through the negative or critical reviews now, it seems like we weren't the only ones who had such an experience. The owner's answers to this are absolutely subterranean.

The interior is really a 10. The restaurant is so atmospheric, very beautiful. The food also tastes good. We received a sandwich with homemade herb butter and pepper on the house. The prices of the food are very reasonable. Tip: reserve in advance. We read the reviews and saw that people indicated this. It was also necessary, because it was very busy (Tuesday).

Best pizza in Cochem. Located in a cellar with picturesque round vaults. Very good steak and delicious pasta dishes. But you should definitely reserve in advance.

The selection of dishes is diverse and tastes 10/10. Simply great. However, the knives were very blunt, which made cutting steak/pizza very difficult. And even though we had booked a table straight away for 5:30 p.m., we were only served after 40 minutes, or the drinks were asked for. It took another 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. So I was there for an hour without even getting a drink. The food was okay considering the waiting time and, as mentioned above, great.

The food was good. Me and my family had pizza’s and I could see they were made with fresh ingredients. Also the pizza had a nice thin bottom and a crunchy crust. The only thing which could be a little bit better is the use of more flavors. My wife and sons pizza were a little on the bland side. Although we reserved a table for five people, we had to sit at a four person table and the fifth person had to sit awkwardly in the route the waiters take to serve. The service was good, but no came to check if everything was in order and when we were finished no one asked if we would like anything for dessert. Overall I rate this restaurant four out of dive stars and I’d skip all the other Italian restaurants closer to the town center.

Food tastes very good and is enough. It was a shame that despite having reserved a table, we had to wait 45 minutes for drinks at 30°C, after standing in front of the closed door for a longer period of time. However, there was a lot of activity. Priority was given to guests without reservations. After 1.5 hours the food arrived hot and delicious. The drinks were nice and cold. The knives should only be sharpened once because you could only pull the food apart. Unfortunately, the staff was a bit stressed and they scurried through the corridors with blinders on. For the bill we had to go to the checkout, where there wasn't even an eye contact or a thank you, feedback, etc. came. It's easy to live in the cellar. Thanks anyway for the delicious dishes.

Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere and nice decor. Quite noisy, especially when there are larger groups inside. Service appealed to noisy groups to be quieter, which was great! Reservations are necessary.

We went there spontaneously on Friday evening, on the recommendation of the guesthouse owner. We hadn't made a reservation and they were able to offer us a table, but they said straight away that we only had 1 hour and 45 minutes. But that was completely okay for us. We order two pizzas and a bottle of wine. The rolls at the beginning with the dip were very tasty. The pizzas were very good in terms of dough and well seasoned overall. The mushrooms on my pizza tasted fresh. We were full and would eat there again at any time. Price performance was good. The wrong wine maybe a bit expensive but it was okay.

We went to dinner with our friends after looking at the Google score but regretted it. The waiters were both very rude and were careless even though they knew there were children. Our order, which was just boiled pasta, came last without asking for any extras. When we questioned this, we were subjected to rude and rude behavior. It reminded us how important service is in a restaurant, as well as taste. I would never choose it again.
