Ophover Mühle in Wegberg

Today we visited the Ophover Mühle for the first time. I would happily give it 10 stars. Everything was perfect. The service: top-notch. Stars plus. We didn't miss anything in our 5 hours there. Attentive, super friendly, amazing team. The food... delicious. Good. Perfect. And: lots of vegan options. Highly recommended!!!! Ambience: Very cozy. Beautiful interior design. A perfect all-around success! Best wishes to the team! 🥰

My husband and I had breakfast at the Ophover Mühle today. It was delicious, and the waiters were all very friendly and attentive. Which, unfortunately, isn't always the case. Our dog was also warmly welcomed.

The Ophover Mill is located on a beautiful little lake. The Beekbach stream flows through the lake and powers the mill wheel (now in disuse). The mill was built in 1795, and the millworks can still be seen inside the restaurant. The restaurant invites you to linger. While enjoying coffee ☕️ and chocolate ice cream, we had a beautiful view of the mill pond.

I can really recommend it. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly.

We spontaneously reserved a table (you definitely should) and the food was delicious. The staff was very friendly, and the courtyard is a really nice place to sit. We'll definitely be back.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and nicely presented. It was nice to sit in the courtyard. Unfortunately, there was no service. We would have drunk a lot more otherwise. A shame.

Cozy terrace and very good food

Great location. We sat outside overlooking the pond. All the dishes – trout, zander, veal, and chicken – were excellent! The service was prompt and friendly. Special requests were no problem at all. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our visit! Both the starters and our main courses were truly delicious – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was mostly friendly and attentive. Only one waitress seemed a bit annoyed, which was unfortunately noticeable – a shame, but not a big deal. Overall, a truly enjoyable visit. We'd love to come back again if we get the chance!

The food was very good. The service left something to be desired. However, the atmosphere was very pleasant.

Breakfast with a view! But even if you sit inside, it's absolutely worth it. Great buffet, ample selection, and a superb service team. The value for money is absolutely spot on. Even the child was very happy.

Five stars aren't enough. The cuisine serves regional quality at the best price/performance ratio. Service and ambiance complete the overall picture, as do the house mill beers. Even the longer journey to the Ophover Mill is worth it.

We visited the Ophover Mühle yesterday (my first visit) at very short notice and called to get a wonderful seat in the courtyard. It's no wonder you should make a reservation, otherwise you might not be able to get a seat, as the ambiance and atmosphere there are like a mini-vacation. We felt very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed it, including the food. The many small tapas, the mill bread, the changing menu, the drinks menu, etc. were wonderful. They also offer various long drinks, some with and some without alcohol. So there should be something for everyone. And the staff are relaxed and friendly—what more could you want? We'd love to come back!

Very much disappointed, a beautiful place in the wrong hands. Unfriendly service, they recognized we were tourists and gave us the worst table, inside a room with plastic roof that was like a greenhouse, 1 m from the toilets. The place is large and 90% of the tables were free, several in the outside terrace by the lake, but they didn't allow us to stay there. Food was not bad, good ingredients, but the preparation was very primitive, ingredients spread on the dish without any logic or art. Finally, they charged us 5 euro for 1 liter of tap water! Avoid this place, there are better alternatives close by

Since our wedding in June 2011, we've been eating here regularly and with great pleasure. We highly recommend the varied dishes, one of the best Hugo's anywhere, and the very friendly staff.

Wow, as always, delicious and plentiful. What I think is great is that my wife, who had gastric bypass surgery and therefore doesn't eat much, only had to pay the children's price – simply fantastic. Highly recommended for people who like a hearty breakfast.

We went there for dinner today with a larger group. The service was consistently friendly and always answered all of our questions! Everyone there was also in control, so everyone responded quickly. We all enjoyed the food, and the beer was delicious, too! We sat outside on the terrace; we really enjoyed it there. We'd love to come back!

I went to brunch with my son on Father's Day. The food was buffet style and nothing to complain about. Service was friendly. The price was reasonable.

Actually, it's really good and tasty. Unfortunately, we were unlucky last time and the food was too salty. I hope that was an exception, but the response from the service and the kitchen was good and appropriate. We'll definitely be back.

I can't share the positive reviews here, as we received a very unfriendly welcome today and were downright rudely "disinvited." At 6:10 p.m., only one table was occupied, but we were told all the tables were taken, and we were only given the "last table" right outside the door. We went based on a recommendation, but we will definitely not go back and can only advise against going if you expect hospitality in a restaurant.

Beautifully located restaurant right next to a small lake, perfect for relaxing in lush surroundings. The kitchen offers a successful mix of traditional dishes and creative, unusual creations. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared. My tip: Be sure to try the Herrencreme for dessert – a true classic! ;-)

A very nice location and restaurant. We sat in the conservatory, which is really nice because it's sheltered but still has an open sky. The only criticism was that towards the end, they either turned on a fan or opened a window, but it was definitely quite drafty. The food was very tasty, and the menu is very varied. After ordering, the food arrived pretty quickly.

Beautiful place to stay and dine. From cakes to snacks to full meals, this beautiful restaurant offers everything. Another plus point is the regional ingredients. Plus home-made beer. All of this in a lovingly furnished ambience.

We used to love going to the Ophover mill, but for about 3 years it hasn't been what it used to be. For “earlier” and for the great ambience, the 3 Stars. We tried a few more times, but unfortunately all we were left with was confirmation that the food and service was no longer right for us. The highlight was when we invited guests to breakfast brunch and we had to keep asking if we could still order drinks. In the entire time, a waitress only came to our table once. When my husband paid and still gave a big tip, there wasn't even a curt "thank you".

We had breakfast at the Ophover Mill and were thrilled. Great location, super delicious breakfast, very nice service! The little ones were also thought of. (Children's chairs available). We'd love to come back.

Gezellig restaurant met leuk behulpzaam personeel. Maar het eten was slecht. We waren allemaal teleurgesteld. De schnitzel was droog en taai, de friet was slap, alsof deze opgewarmd was. De asperges was dik en hard. Uiteraard doorgegeven aan de bediening. Ik kreeg een nieuwe portie asperges. Maar toen die er eindelijk aankwam was mijn eten koud. De nieuwe asperges was goed maar heel flauw. Het dessert van mijn keuze was uitverkocht. Teleurstellend en niet voor herhaling vatbaar.

The brunch has become more expensive, like everything else, but the offering has also shrunk. For example, there is no salmon at breakfast anymore. Otherwise ok. We are still reconsidering how often we go there in the future as there are other alternatives. But everyone should decide for themselves.

The food wasn't warm, the fries were too salty, the water only came after 30 minutes and the waitress would rather eat herself than serve. I won't be there anymore

A beautiful, rustically decorated restaurant with excellent service. The various mill snacks and salads are highly recommended. The mill burger and fries are also very tasty. Unfortunately, the portions are rather small. Unfortunately, the "Vienna-style" schnitzel wasn't impressive.

Spontaneously later in the evening we went to the Ophover mill for a small beer tasting of the home-brewed, very special and versatile barley juices...unfortunately...for some unknown reason...we were not welcome to sit down at the very nice bar...but we were offered a nice seat in one of the guest rooms for the tasting...the entire ambience there is very nice and stylish...so that another visit will be in order in the future to see the other drinks on offer and, above all, that Try the food

I like being here. The menu offers imaginative dishes for every taste. Seasonal variety is also guaranteed here. The in-house Mühlenbier also offers a lot of variety with its different varieties and will definitely delight one or two beer lovers. All of this in a very quiet atmosphere. When visiting, I recommend making reservations in advance for all of this.

At the weekend we came across the Ophover Mill by chance. All I can say is that the food was good and the service was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very cozy. Free parking spaces available.

I am submitting the review on behalf of my parents. You can search online and find a lunch menu, which unfortunately is no longer available in the restaurant. But you only find out about this after you order your drink. Now you can either pay for the drinks and leave or order from the (more expensive) normal menu. Maybe you'll reintroduce a small lunch menu because other guests have probably asked for it. When eating from the normal menu, the schnitzel was ok, fries and salad were okay.

Overall really nice... the breakfast is rich, delicious rolls and a lot of choice... however, you can tell from one or two products that it's no longer the same as before... but that's complaining at a high level Why am I deducting a star...I usually need a walker myself...if it's at ground level it's fine...but if there are wheelchair users it's definitely too narrow! As a customer, I'm forced to squeeze through because there isn't enough space... and these are pitfalls that simply don't work!

Usual good quality. I had the braised pork cheeks. There were also vegetables and mashed potatoes with onions. The meat was super tender. And the vegetables are still slightly crunchy. Delicious.

I grew up nearby and played at the Ophover Mill as a child at a time when it was closer to being demolished than being used as a restaurant. At that time, the retention basin on which it is located was still a small pond and the entire area was far less developed than it is today. The school center was built, the Wegberg tennis club was founded and the old Ophover mill was completely renovated. They did a lot of things right, as luckily as a guest you can experience and understand for yourself today in the restaurant's premises. You can sit very comfortably in a well-kept atmosphere, if you want, in the immediate vicinity of the old mill. As a restaurant, the mill has also experienced very changeable times when it comes to food. Sometimes the tenants were very good, but only in the mill for a short time; some of them don't even want to be labeled “restaurant”. The current operators, Ulrike & Holger Hendricks, raised the restaurant back to a very good level a few years ago and managed it through the times of the Corona pandemic, in which many restaurants suffered total shipwreck, without a total collapse. As you can read, I go to this restaurant every now and then and I also regularly book Christmas dinners here with colleagues and work groups. I wouldn't be there if I didn't appreciate the offerings, the atmosphere and the team: the seasonal offerings are mostly hits and the buffets are overall recommended to excellent. Despite all the praise, a little criticism and a wish are permitted: Firstly: As other guests have already reviewed: It is better to leave out the fried egg on the Ophover Mühlenschnitzel if it has the consistency of a plastic toy. This may be due to kitchen technology and rational use, but a fried egg should have a more appetizing consistency. Secondly: The portions of the seasonal offers are sometimes, not always, a little conservative, but that is probably very individual. The wish: steaks! Where are the steaks? Doesn't exist. If you want to eat very good steaks in Wegberg, you have been able to go to Stöcksken for decades, but it would be nice if you had at least a basic selection in the Ophover Mühle. Viennese roast, sirloin and rump steak, Bearnaise sauce, herb butter and Parisienne sauce to choose from, fried potatoes or French fries, plus a tasty side salad. Except for the steaks, that's what's in the range anyway. So please: have mercy! Tip for regional shopping: The Casteel butcher shop in Wegberg-Dalheim has the best steaks. That's it for criticism and desire. Everything else can stay as it is. Not an insider tip, but just right in the autumn and winter months if you appreciate potatoes: On every third Thursday evening of the month there is a potato pancake buffet with side dishes. Very rich, very tasty. Hip gold Conclusion: Good restaurant in the medium price range with regional, German cuisine at a high level

The aubergines in the vegetable patties were not cooked at all, nor were the zucchinis, so it was not possible to eat them.

Today was supposed to be something special again, I have been visiting the Ophover Mill for over ten years and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately that was the case today. the OPHOVER MÜHLENSCHNITZEL for €24.30 Crispy baked, tender schnitzel meat from the Echter Monastery pork with fried strips of bacon and baked Fried egg from local free-range farming on “Brat-Schmörkes”, plus a colorful garden salad That's how it is offered here. The schnitzel was dry and tough, the “fried eggs” were not inferior to the schnitzel. The “Brat-Schmökers” were swimming in pure fat and were hardly edible. To make matters worse, the colorful garden salad wasn't served either. Of course, I told the service staff about this meal, and they probably passed it on to the kitchen and apologized, but that leads me to the conclusion that I probably won't be visiting the Ophover Mill again in the near future.

It was simply sensationally good again. There were 10 of us there for Christmas dinner, and there was a menu that fulfilled all our wishes. There was plenty of choice, including vegetarian dishes. The dishes and products were very well coordinated. Everyone was thrilled. I also agree with the restaurant's philosophy of using regional products. The atmosphere is very cozy and very well coordinated. As always, the staff was in a good mood, helpful and competent. Highly recommended, we will visit this restaurant again.

Unfortunately the third time in 2024 it was a complete failure. Neither the goose leg nor the goose breast was crispy, despite complaints and exchanges, a shame. Staff very friendly and attentive. It's a shame because it's a very nice restaurant. We hope it was just a blip. In 2022 we went for a goose meal with 10 people before and after dinner. Unanimous conclusion - great. Went here for the third time with 8 people to eat goose. Unfortunately the goose legs and goose breasts were a disappointment. Not crispy fried. The skin was loose, fat and pale. Despite a complaint and an exchange, the food was served to us again in the same condition. The side dishes were good. The service was top and the location was really beautiful. Too bad.

We went to the Ophover Mill for the first time today and all four of us were thrilled. Attentive service, great selection of food. We had a hard time choosing. The food was very good, the portions were generous, the price definitely corresponds to the quality of the food. Personally, I really liked the composition of the dishes. The “wild pulled burger” was simply delicious. The other dishes also tasted very good. The dining room is rustic because it is located in an old mill.

Delicious dishes with ingredients that mainly come from the region. You should definitely try various homemade mill beers. We will also eat there again.
