Oechsle Restaurant & Weinbar in Hamburg

We were there for the first time yesterday. Not only did we eat very well, but we also felt extremely comfortable! Thank you for the lovely evening!

We visited the Oechsle restaurant in Hamburg today for my grandfather's 80th birthday – a spontaneous decision that turned out to be an absolute stroke of luck. Even though we didn't have a reservation and came with five people, the team was incredibly dedicated. They even arranged flowers – on a Sunday, mind you! – and the table was beautifully set. The food was of a standard that really deserves more than five stars: perfect preparation, high-quality products, and simply outstanding flavor. The service was equally first-class – attentive, warm, and professional. We were particularly impressed that the restaurant normally closes around 11:00 PM, but they let us stay so we could celebrate his birthday together. This hospitality is not something you can take for granted and perfectly rounded off the evening for us. You immediately notice that this is an owner-operated restaurant where quality and hospitality are paramount. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fair, especially considering the attention to detail and attention to detail. For us, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, one we will certainly never forget. We will definitely be back – and can only recommend this restaurant to everyone.

We had a lovely evening and good food. I honestly expected a bit more than we got, and unfortunately, I have to say that the service seemed disorganized, not very attentive, and a bit irritated. And that was at 6:00 PM, when only 3 of 15 tables were occupied. I don't really like that. But it's a beautiful restaurant, the food is delicious, and maybe we just had a bad day.

A very good restaurant with a quiet atmosphere and good wine. Six of us were there for the gourmet summer menu and had a truly wonderful evening. The service was relaxed and very friendly, as well as professional in its advice. Two of our companions had also eaten there previously and were very satisfied. We highly recommend the Oechsle.

This was a chance find, simply to try as it was walking distance from where I was staying. It was a wonderful choice. There was summer menu "Schlemmer Sommer" which I took and added the Kalbstartar. All the dishes were very tasty, but the Calf Tartar stood out by far, it was simply delicious which I will definitely order again when I come back. Service was friendly and welcoming. Overall very good VfM.

We had a very pleasant evening at the restaurant – the food was consistently delicious, prepared with great attention to detail. The gourmet summer menu was a particular highlight! The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff very friendly and attentive. One small downside: the wait between courses was unfortunately far too long, which somewhat tarnished the otherwise excellent overall impression.

Sensational. Fantastic, sophisticated food. Excellent wine list with VDP GG and Erste Lage wines. Small but extremely high-quality menu. Very fair prices for food and drinks. There were four of us and we were absolutely delighted. Friendly team – this is how high-quality dining is fun. Thank you for the exceptional experience and evening. We will definitely be back.

As part of the Hamburg Gourmet Summer 2025, we had the pleasure of experiencing the Oechsle – and we were completely thrilled. The lovingly composed four-course menu was a true culinary highlight and impressively demonstrated how sophisticated yet down-to-earth modern German cuisine can be. The separate wine pairing was also excellently curated and fairly priced. 👌🏻🍷 Every course was a hit: from the creative appetizer to the perfectly cooked main course to the dessert, which was both surprising and harmonious. The ingredients were high-quality, the flavors finely balanced – you can taste the passion that goes into the cooking here. The service was attentive, friendly, and unobtrusive – a wonderful blend of Hanseatic restraint and warm hospitality. The ambiance also won us over: stylish, warm, and with a clear focus – just like the menu. Conclusion: The Oechsle is far more than an insider tip—if you love good food and value quality, you shouldn't miss this restaurant. We'll definitely be back—and not just during the gourmet summer. 🥇😊

The Oechsle is very cozy, the staff is attentive, and the food is truly delicious. So why only four stars? My beef bourguignon contained four to five pieces of meat, and I paid €31 for it. I'm not a "big eater," but I could easily have doubled the portion. I know inflation is a problem, but in many restaurants, the value for money is no longer right for me. And it was the same here; despite all the perfection, I at least want to be full.

Even though I miss La Mirabelle in this location, Oechsle is a worthy successor with an excellently crafted, modern and down-to-earth selection of dishes. The selection is small but fine and there should be something for everyone. Four of us had dinner and had a very aromatic mushroom cappuccino, 4 different main courses and, as the crowning glory, the Mallorcan almond cake. The portions are sized so that you can enjoy the three courses. Even though we are in a higher price category, we were completely impressed by the wonderfully aromatic dishes. The service is friendly and unobtrusive, you feel comfortable in the Oechsle.

Über einen Bekannten, der in Hamburg lebt und der vor langer Zeit im NDR die Reportage über das Oechsle gesehen hat, sind wir auf dieses Restaurant aufmerksam geworden. Zu 88. Geburtstag haben wir dort einen Tisch für 2 Personen reserviert und müssen sagen, es war ein Abend wie es man sich wünscht. Herzliche Begrüßung durch den Chef des Hauses und seinen Mitarbeiter und ein zuvorkommender, persönlicher Service. Aus der kleinen feinen Karte haben wir uns ein 3-Gang Menü zusammen gestellt. Als perfekter Einstieg erwies sich der Pilz-Cappucino mit Trüffelsahne – geschmacklich ein absolutes Highlight. Als Hauptgang bestellten wir Kalbsfilet mit Spitzkohl, Kartoffelrisotto Nußschaumbutter und Portweinjus. Das Fleisch war von exzellenter Qualität und auf den Punkt gegart – alles hervorragend gekocht. Herr Planko und seine Crew verstehen ihr Handwerk. Der mallorquinische Mandelkuchen mit Gin-Wacholder-Schokolade und Birnensorbet war ein perfekter Abschluss für das Menü. Das Glas Rosé-Champagner zum Apéritif, danach ein Weißwein vom Weingut Schnaitmann und zum Schluß eine Vieille Orange von Etter, serviert aus einer extra für die Spirituose entworfene Glasflasche, haben das Menü perfekt begleitet Danke an das gesamte Oechsle-Team für diesen schönen Abend – wir kommen wieder.

Es war in jeder Hinsicht ein sehr angenehmer Abend.

We chose this small, beautiful restaurant after Mama Mia. It was a spontaneous visit without a reservation, but a place was still found for us. The gentleman who served us was very accommodating and friendly. The food was very tasty and came to our table in a very visually appealing manner. Short and sweet: Absolutely recommended! We came across the restaurant by chance over the internet. And it was really good, service was great, starters were very tasty and the main courses were good. For a wine bar I found the selection of open wines a bit poor. The 0.2 glasses offered are also too big. I just like to try things out and it's a bit difficult given the size. Overall, my conclusion is very positive. We would definitely come back. Who knows, maybe even during this visit to Hamburg. Keep it up!!!

It was worth to wait for the duck. Wine selection is mostly from Europe, so we tried the local red from Pfalz, which was a satisfying choice.

Lovely ambience. Its exterior belies its excellent food and wine pairing. Hot rye bread with butter. Excellent Germany white wine. Savory pumpkin soup w roasted cashews with a touch of curry. Excellently cooked Zander with crispy skin and white flaky flesh on a bed of greens and millet.

Immer wieder gerne, weil wir schon oft dort gegessen haben und nie enttäuscht waren. Eine übersichtliche Speisekarte mit toller Qualität und hervorragende Weine. Angemessene Preise. Nur unsere Lieblingsbedienung René vermissen wir (schnüff). Aber die Neuen waren auch sehr nett.

Tolles Essen! Super guter nicht aufdringlicher Service

all three dishes were a disappointment, ... thanks to the nice service, a nice evening, ... the starter was "carrot-fennel-mussel with curry", I thought the items mentioned were arranged in such a way that you could taste them individually can, but what came was a classic (Indian) curry only in a small bowl with the amount of three spoons, the whole thing larger and with a portion of rice, it would have been a normal "curry", and that's why there was curry apart from the spice Not much to taste, everything else was drowned in the sauce, a disappointment as a starter. For dessert there was "Crème brûlée" (unfortunately as the "only" dessert, unfortunately there was no vegan or other alternative on the menu), the height of the cream was so low that the caramelized crust on top was thicker than the cream underneath , you could eat it, but the portion was also a disappointment. But the main course was a complete disappointment. The menu offered "Wiener Schnitzel with lukewarm potato salad" and my companion and I love this dish and both ordered the same thing, but what came was NOT Wiener Schnitzel as it is usually served. There was veal, which was ok. was, only instead of an airy breading as we know and love, which lies gently on the meat, thin and delicious, the veal was covered with a thick, coarse, crumbly layer with chunks of breadcrumbs (you can see the optical disaster in the photo). stuck to the schnitzel. It's a cheek to write it on the menu as "Wiener Schnitzel", preferably as veal schnitzel in a coarse breadcrumb coating, or whatever, but that was the ultimate disappointment. And the "lukewarm" potato salad was so hot at times that you had to wait to eat it. I let half of the schnitzel go back, the breading was really a disgrace. The really attentive and great service donated two delicious schnapps as a consolation, which was a nice gesture, the wine was delicious. But the kitchen can't do anything about that. I won't go there again, maybe other dishes taste better, but the risk would be too great for me because the prices are already on the higher side, there should be more sophistication and quality on the table. Oh well, the dishes that are on the online menu weren't available, unfortunately because I actually wanted to eat them and was looking forward to it. The audience was more likely to be tourists and trade fair visitors than Hamburg residents. The light in the men's room in the foyer didn't work. All in all, it's a shame and disappointing. The photo is from another post, but shows the breadcrumb mush quite well. The other photo is from the web. and shows EIN WEINER SCHNITZEL, which is rightly named.

Christian & his team are world class - the highlight: Wiener Schnitzel, but also all other dishes are à la bonheur! We come regularly and feel we are in good hands! The OECHSLE is a must in Hamburg - at any time of the year!

Der Wow-Effekt gleich beim eintreten ins Restaurant, sehr authentisch die Begrüßung, natürlich und sehr gut. Die Karte „Klein und sehr fein“ Hammergeil, die Wein-Karte, ja die Karte, so umfassend wie das Deutsche Grundgesetz ✅✅✅✅✅, Preis/Leistung so geilogalaktisch 👍 Für mich und uns, das Highlight 2024 in Sachen Gastronomie, vom Service bis zur Qualität der Speisen, die Küche versteht ihren Gäste-Job und der Service schenkt Champagner laufend ohne es zu bemerken(icke-wir) nach und das in Perfekter-Ausführung, ja und laufend diese natürliche Freundliche Art, ehrlich, authentisch, sehr natürlich diese laufende Freundlichkeit, alleine nur deshalb muss man hier einkehren. Jetzt hat Hamburg noch Ferien, aber wenn die vorbei sind, das Restaurant seine Betriebsferien antritt und Mitte September dann wieder öffnet, sind wir daaaaaaaaaaaa, es ist geilogalaktisch hier, Wohlfühlen ist gelebt für ihre Gäste hier.

My wife and I visited the Oechsle restaurant yesterday evening spontaneously and without a reservation. We were given an attractive table and even had the choice of where we wanted to sit. The ambience is modern and warm, with pleasant lighting. The service was remarkable upon entering the restaurant and remained at a high level throughout the evening. The menu contained a few, but well-chosen, tasty dishes, which made the decision difficult. We both chose the Wiener Schnitzel and were very satisfied. It wasn't greasy, but still had a delicious buttery flavor and was crispy to the last bite. This quality is rare in the German gastronomy landscape. We also really liked the warm potato and cucumber salad side dish. It wasn't overly seasoned, the texture of the cucumbers and potatoes was perfect and the quantity was appropriate. We will definitely come back. Thank you for the successful evening.

The food is world class! The service is simply great and the ambience is just lovely! We sat outside on Saturday and just enjoyed it. Like a little vacation. The interior also looks beautiful and the toilets are great too. The hand soap is very pleasant. Highly Recommended!!!!

Went here for dinner with my date and we had an amazing experience. Rene, our waiter, was super friendly and welcoming. He also showed a lot of care and attention to help us order the wine that would perfectly fit our taste and our dinner. We both ordered fish which was indescribably delicious. That being said, the dinner was quite pricey: €6 for the glass of wine and €36 for the fish, although the bill was €45.25 per person in the end which doesn't add up, but maybe we were charged for the bread and butter. I unfortunately didn't take the bill. A fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend eating here if you can afford it.

The Oechsle restaurant in Hamburg is a real gem! The food was simply fantastic, every dish a pleasure for the senses. I would particularly like to highlight our waiter, who made the evening unforgettable with his friendly and professional manner. His knowledge of wine and food was impressive and he was always attentive without being intrusive. An absolutely recommended experience!

Das Essen war ausgezeichnet! Mein Mann hat Steinbut auf Spinat mit Hechtklösschen und Saiblingskaviar gegessen und ich genoss den US-Striploin mit Spageln, Tomatenkonfit und weiteren Gemüse. Zuvor haben wir einen sehr schmackhaften Salat serviert bekommen. Zum Dessert wählten wir einen Brombeeren-Sorbet: eine echte Frucht- und Geschmackbombe. Dazu eine perfekte und sehr freundliche Bedienung. Wunderbar!

I can highly recommend the Oechsle restaurant! From the moment you enter the restaurant to the moment you leave the restaurant. The team is friendly and attentive. The ambience is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening/or lunch (on Sunday) The menu is short and has something for everyone! All dishes are fresh and prepared with very high quality ingredients. You can see it and you can taste it! I am particularly enthusiastic (actually EVERYTHING) about Kaiserschmarren. Service leaves nothing to be desired. I feel at home here and am happy every time. I'm looking forward to my lunch on Sunday! Which is also a great insider tip for Hamburg! Thanks to the whole team!

Sehr schönes Restaurant mit ganz toller Atmosphäre! Unsere Bedienung war super nett und sehr zuvorkommend. Wir hatten den Spargel und die frische Hollandaise war ein Gedicht. Für den Preis war die Spargelmenge auch angemessen. Lediglich ein paar mehr Kartoffeln hätte ich mir gewünscht, da waren die 4 sehr sehr kleinen ein wenig dünn. Dafür war die Weinempfehlung super!

Very nice restaurant. Very friendly service. Delicious food. The only drawback: the portion (for EUR 36) was so small that I was glad I had eaten bread beforehand. Otherwise I wouldn't have been full.
