Amazing food! Try the vegetarian schnitzel. It's delicious!

Still a very good combination of food, drinks, and football atmosphere. Anyone who has been there once will come back.

We happened to be in Dortmund today... and were looking for a nice place... and found Schmackes... They mainly serve schnitzel, which isn't too bad... I ordered the Balkan schnitzel... Well, the schnitzel wasn't warm or even lukewarm... the fries were oversalted... but the sauce was okay... The salad looked delicious but was too hot... The food arrived after about 5 minutes... So it seems like they just heat it up quickly... At least that's my personal impression.

Made a reservation at the bar, had a great meal (perfect portions). Delicious Brinkhof with a tasty schnitzel. Reservations are recommended.

We were there before the Christmas carol singing and wanted to have a nice meal beforehand. It was rather disappointing! Despite having a reservation, we had to wait almost 15 minutes in the middle of the aisle until our table was free. Many other guests had the same experience; a queue stretched outside. Our order was taken quickly, and the drinks and food arrived fairly fast. The food was tasty, but also a bit overpriced. The atmosphere was very loud, making normal conversation rather difficult. The service was friendly, but also somewhat overwhelmed and poorly organized.

Unfortunately, some items on the menu were unavailable. It would be great if they were more accommodating to guest requests, for example, fried potatoes. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious.

In many previous YouTube videos, this place was described with great enthusiasm as an extremely great restaurant, especially known for its excellent schnitzel, which was the case when I visited. Unfortunately, I couldn't confirm this; the schnitzels were very thick and felt like they were frozen. This isn't meant to be an accusation, as I don't know if this is actually the case, but it seems that the quality they once had was either overhyped or simply no longer exists. Don't get me wrong, the food still tastes good, but based on the reviews and some of the promotional videos, I simply expected more.

A corner pub with a great atmosphere where we had a nice, relaxed drink. Probably always packed during BVB football matches. Might as well experience it sometime.

We were a group of five for dinner. The food was excellent and absolutely delicious. However, the service was truly abysmal! When there were only three of us, we ordered drinks, which arrived after 15 minutes. Two of the three drinks were wrong. When we pointed this out, the server reacted very irritably, but we received the correct drinks shortly afterward. Once everyone had arrived, we ordered our food, which was served promptly. Our waiter seemed quite distracted the entire time, as if he'd had a wild night out the previous evening. He was constantly smoking and flirting with women who walked by (he could have been very attentive and friendly to them; so his unacceptable behavior was apparently due to us). When we had finished, three of us couldn't finish our portions, and one of us asked if he could pack our food. Two minutes later, he returned with only two to-go boxes. When asked where the third item was, he snapped, "You didn't say you wanted that one packed up too." So, the remaining half portion of potatoes with vegetarian meatball and beans was apparently thrown away. The other five portions of fries were packed up. All in all, truly disappointing service. One wonders if, in larger groups, everyone has to individually request that their food be packed up. I work in the food service industry myself and would have simply asked if everything should be packed up, or just one or two plates. Especially since there was still quite a lot left on the plate. It wouldn't have been a problem, and it could have been resolved quickly. To me, that's just common sense.

There were two of us at Schmackes. The food was very tasty and the portions were generous. Overall, it was a bit too loud for a good conversation.

So, I would have liked to form an opinion. But it started with the difficulty of making a reservation. We wanted to celebrate a birthday with 20 people there for dinner. Online reservations are only for up to 12 people; please email or call. No one answered the phone, so I sent an email. No reply. I called twice more, and then someone answered. Very unfriendly, checked, and said no, it wouldn't work (we had inquired 5 weeks in advance). I then mentioned that a reply to the email would have been nice, since we had to look for something else. The only response was: "Yes, we're all working too!" Very rude! Just give them a call! I had already tried. So, I don't think I'll go there. I also work a lot, but I try to remain polite. That's called customer service.

Great schnitzel! We were there for the first time today and it was delicious. Nice place, the staff was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. The price-performance ratio was also very good and we will definitely come again. It's definitely worth a visit if you want a relaxed and good meal. There were also many vegetarian options.

The food was delicious as always. We come here every time we're in Dortmund. We met Kevin last time, but unfortunately not today. The service was super friendly. The food was great. They even have a separate entrance for wheelchair users. Excellent!

A great mix between a cafe and a restaurant. I went here for dinner in November 2025, and they didn't disappoint! There are plenty of seating options with a variety of chairs and tables (both high and low). The menu is extensive, and the chefs work hard to ensure the quality is truly exceptional. Kudos! I had the Potthucke as a starter and the Ruhrpott Carpaccio for the main course. The currywurst lacked a bit of the authentic curry flavor, in my opinion. Definitely come back again; it's cozy, delicious, and relaxing.

Lunch at Schmackes! I'm disappointed. The last time I was here was six years ago for Himmel und Ääd (a traditional German dish of mashed potatoes and applesauce), and it was very good back then, unlike today. The quality of the black pudding hasn't changed. The breaded apple slices weren't freshly made, which is a shame. I can only give the mashed potatoes three stars. My son had the Kevin BBQ schnitzel, which was very tasty and freshly pounded. My conclusion: Next time I'll only order the schnitzel. Most of the chairs desperately need replacing. They're so worn out that you're sitting on the wooden frame. A no-go. The staff was really nice, and we got a table despite not having a reservation.

Funfair instead of football culture! We wanted to watch the 135th Lower Saxony derby. Instead, the European Darts Championship was on because of some weird guys in clown costumes. We left! Not my place anymore!

We visited Schmackes late one Friday afternoon, shortly before a major event at the Westfalenhalle. We had reserved a table for two by phone the day before, which worked perfectly. We arrived promptly at 4:30 p.m., and the waiter whisked us to our table. But that was it for a while. All around us, other guests were being assigned tables, and they also received their menus, but we just sat there twiddling our thumbs. Eventually, a waiter noticed... Thanks for that 😅 No, it's okay... forgiven. It was really busy at that time, and everyone makes mistakes. Then the drinks we ordered and the food arrived really quickly. The ambiance is nice to look at, and there's a kind of pub atmosphere, so it's fitting. It's a bit difficult for us to rate the food itself. The value for money is definitely good. The portions are generous and really filling. We probably chose the wrong dish for us: the schnitzel topped with cheese and hollandaise sauce. It was a bit too much for us with all that cheese and sauce, but of course, we don't want to judge that negatively. Next time, we'll have the gypsy schnitzel...🤭

If you're in Dortmund and want something good to eat, this is a definite recommendation. Not just for football fans. Delicious schnitzel. Large portions. Very good value for money.

Yesterday we wanted to eat at Schmackes for the second time. The first time, the staff wasn't very accommodating. But we thought we'd give them another chance since the food was delicious. Unfortunately, we were treated unfriendly there yesterday; in our case, it was even the manager himself. Very arrogant and not customer-friendly. We felt unwelcome; it was pure mass processing. Other restaurants manage to be friendly to customers despite staff shortages. I can't understand why this restaurant is so popular...hence only one star.

We were there at lunchtime on a Bundesliga match day. Naturally, it was quite busy. Nevertheless, the service was very good and prompt. There were no long waits, and the waiters were attentive even when the drinks were empty. The value for money is also excellent. Really delicious food at fair prices. I was particularly impressed by the side salad. The ambiance is very rustic, but designed with attention to detail. There's a feel-good atmosphere. I highly recommend everyone to stop by and see for themselves.

We booked a table specifically for a Black and Yellow football afternoon and were generously allowed to stay until the end of the game. We highly commend that. The food was good, but after 2 hours, you were asked to leave your table and make room for other guests. Where does that say?? The service left a lot to be desired. Very sloppy, only there twice within 2 hours. Instead of serving, he cleaned the floor behind the counter. When we left, the waiter was very rude.

Service is prompt and super friendly. Wait times for drinks and food were very short. The food, however, was mediocre to poor. The schnitzel was nicely crisped, but lacked flavor. It could have been anything, but it didn't really taste like schnitzel. I can do better at home. The portion sizes are on the smaller side, so it's not exactly filling. The BBQ schnitzel also had a nasty earthy aftertaste, which was due to the jalapenos. I don't really know what jalapenos taste like. A clear 5 stars for the service, but the food could still be improved.

We were there yesterday at 4:30 p.m. The staff were enthusiastic, so we were allowed in a little early. The server was there immediately and served us quickly and friendly. We had Kevin's BBQ schnitzel and the Wiener Schnitzel (turkey). Both schnitzels were delicious. The fries with chili-cheddar sauce were great, and the potatoes were also delicious. We added some delicious Brinkhoffs and were completely satisfied.

I had hunter's schnitzel and fries and salad schnitzel had no taste it tasted of nothing sauce tasted like water not creamy or seasoned I had 8 fries on the plate and they were very dry service top but food not at all and for the price we will not go there again the whole group at the table thought the food was tasteless

We were there on a Sunday for a birthday lunch, and as always, the food was fantastic. We had schnitzel with fries and hollandaise sauce – super delicious and perfectly prepared. The weather was nice, but I actually wanted to eat inside because the outdoor area is right next to the sidewalk along the street. Inside, all the tables had "Reserved" signs on them!? When I asked, we were told we could sit at a high table in the entrance area with those high chairs. I was a bit surprised by the tone and the way it was presented to us. 🙄 Okay, someone's in a bad mood, I just thought. We went outside anyway, since at least there was a comfortable place to sit. When ordering, I asked if the chili cheese schnitzel was very spicy. The answer I got was: "Jalapeños, you can take them off!" Okay, he was really in a bad mood. We both opted for the Schmackes Schnitzel (the same as the chili cheese schnitzel, but without jalapeños). We also had a nice shandy and a Coke Zero. ☺️ Our drinks arrived quickly, and lo and behold, the first request and a smile were visible and audible. After about 10 minutes, the schnitzels arrived, and our mood really improved. We were asked if everything was okay or if we had any other requests, all with a smile. The schnitzels were good, really good, very tasty... 😋 I paid inside because no one came to clear away or reorder. And with that, I'd like to say that I was satisfied despite the waiter/service staff's bad mood. Anyone can be in a bad mood sometimes, and no one knows why, as long as it only happens once when I'm a guest there. 💸🙄

We were visiting Dortmund for the first time from Braunschweig. I found this restaurant online and have to say it was worth the visit. The food was delicious, the prices were very fair, and the portions were really generous! I definitely recommend it.

The food selection was very good, although the vegetable fritters were more like a neutral, solid, and not very tasty mass. All other dishes and drinks were well received. Service was very attentive.
