Makalali-Lodge in Hamburg

Unfortunately, my visit to the Makalai Lodge at the Hamburg Tropical Aquarium was a real disappointment. The currywurst with fries was a culinary disaster: the sausage tasted bland and somehow stale, the sauce seemed to have been carelessly poured out of a can and had about as much in common with a good curry sauce as a goldfish does with a gourmet restaurant. The fries were soggy, greasy, and had clearly been exposed to the humidity of the tropical greenhouse for quite some time. For the price charged, I would have at least expected the food to be edible – unfortunately, it barely was. The value for money is absolutely terrible: you pay premium prices and get fast-food quality at a poor cafeteria level. It's a shame, because the setting is actually quite interesting, but the food severely detracts from the experience. I definitely wouldn't eat here again and unfortunately can't recommend it to anyone.

The ambiance was unbeatable, especially with the birds stealing the fries from your plate ;-) Speaking of which, the fries were old, soggy, and not tasty at all, but they used to be better.

Dirty tables, trash lying around. Bad coffee. Unfriendly staff. Disgusting, prices incredibly expensive for this crap.

I can only recommend it with reservations. Atmosphere and food on a furniture store level. Lemon with wheat beer? Huh? Hammwanich. Cream all the way to the table? Too much to ask. The cake had lots of slices, not many strawberries. The taste was on par with Coppenrath and Wiese. So passable. The sausage was okay. Although the seasoning should be in the sauce, not sprinkled on top. The fries were half soggy, half rock hard.

The ambiance is quite nice. However, the tables are far too small for four people. The service was friendly. The food wasn't very good. Everything was pre-made, just heated up. Snack bar quality at restaurant prices. A Vienna sausage without bread, ketchup, or anything else cost €4.30. A portion of pre-made potato salad cost the same. A small latte was €4.80, and a portion of vegetables with tofu and rice cost almost €18. Pretty steep for pre-made meals. There was also a plate for coins for using the restroom. But if I'm already paying well over €100 for the restaurant and entrance fee, I'm not going to pay extra for using the restroom. Overall, a nice outing (just under two hours including the "restaurant"), but too expensive.

Beautiful view, but with very high prices…

Extremely high prices for food and drinks. Impolite sales person. Penne with wok vegetables and chicken cost more than 20€ per portion. A small cup of filter coffee is 3.70€. Totally unjustified for a self-service restaurant with average quality food.

Mayo tastes spoiled, according to the employee, the sour taste is normal, well .... The prices are relatively expensive, nuggets with fries for 9.60 euros plus 50 cents ketchup/mayo

Cheap chicken nuggets, undercooked, fries too soggy, dirty tables, and really steep prices. It could have rounded out the experience, but it didn't.

Ambience quite nice. Service okay. It's just like being in a canteen. The food is terrible. Even for free it would still be too expensive! Seriously, I have never eaten such disgusting chicken nuggets. 🤢

So I know that the food in Zoo's is always a little more expensive, but the fact that the portions have become so small is completely new to me. Fries with sausage, fries that don't cost much, were so skimpy that they wouldn't even qualify as a children's portion. So far the worst price-performance ratio I have experienced in a zoo. Everyone else had at least normal portions.

Bistro fits well into the complex. You can do staff like that. Rather average and not quite on task. Unfortunately, drinks and food were a disaster. Dead non-carbonated drinks. The worst currywurst I've had in a long time. The sausage was kept warm to the limit and the curry sauce was a disaster. And the second person also found it and didn't even eat it. Due to the quality, the price is also too high. It's a shame because the rest of it is really great.

Ambiente und Service (Bedienung, Höflich- und Freundlichkeit) gut. Aber Qualität des Essens mittelmäßig und die Portion meiner Meinung nach zu klein . Die Preise teilweise aus meiner Sicht ungerecht teuer. Erstens verstehe ich nicht warum, wenn man Pommes bestellt, für die Sauce 50 Cent extra zahlen muss. Es ist eine Selbstverständlichkeit, dass man Pommes in der Regel mit Ketchup oder Mayonnaise isst. Selbst bei McDonalds und Burger King ist die erste Sauce kostenlos, wenn mann Essen bestellt. Auch ist der Preis für die Getränke extrem teuer. Für eine Vio Bio Limonade, welche in Supermarkt unter 1 Euro kostet, zahlt man hier fast 5 Euro!!! Für einen Apfelschorle 3,40 Euro! Das ist nicht in Ordnung.
