Mai Garten in München

We were greeted unfriendly and shown to the table. When we asked to change tables, we were passively aggressively denied. The food, more specifically duck with peanut sauce (No. 123), wasn't exactly appetizing, the duck was dry and the vegetables and sauce were slimy. Overall, I would not recommend visiting this restaurant!

The egg fried rice was delicious :) The portion size of the kkoobaroo was small, but it cost 22 euros,,, 😅

Authentic Chinese cuisine - especially the Sichuan eggplants are to die for! The dishes are perfect for sharing and trying everything. It's lovely to sit outside on summer evenings. The service is quick and friendly. All in all, absolutely recommended :)

Guobao Pork is highly recommended

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mai Garten at Gärtnerplatz and I can say that it is a real gem in the Munich food scene. This restaurant combines authentic Asian cuisine with a modern atmosphere and warm service. I would particularly like to highlight the duck from the dry wok. The preparation is simply ingenious – wonderfully crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and perfectly seasoned. Every portion shows the skill and attention to detail that goes into this home's kitchen. The baos are also an absolute delight. They are fluffy, fresh and have a delicious filling that simply leaves you wanting more. The service at Mai Garten is also outstanding. The team is attentive, friendly and always strives to offer guests an unforgettable experience. You feel welcome and valued from the first moment. The atmosphere of the restaurant also contributes to an all-round successful evening - stylish yet cozy, modern and inviting at the same time. In summary, the Mai Garden at Gärtnerplatz is a must for anyone who appreciates high-quality Asian cuisine and excellent service. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place!

In my opinion, an average of 4 stars in no way reflects the experience of dining at Mai Garden. The service was the worst I have ever experienced, even though we were served by the supposed boss! Quote from our neighboring table: “A waiter from hell.” We were served very rudely and unfriendly. For example, our set table outside was moved without warning so that another one could be squeezed in for other guests. (Just to give an example). In addition, despite repeated consultation, there were errors when placing the order, which was ultimately also incorrect on the invoice. To top it all off, the waiter poured the sauce from a plate over a guest's as he cleared away the dishes. The food was ok and inexpensive. Average Chinese food. However, I would never set foot in the Mai Garden again due to the miserable service.

Never experienced such unfriendly service. While we were sitting at the table, the waitress suddenly moved it away without explanation. We then noticed that space was needed for additional guests. Vegetables were frozen food with no taste. Dumplings were stroppy. The rest of the food was only average in quality. Drinks taken incorrectly. When this was pointed out, I reacted completely rudely and later billed me for the wrong, expensive drink. Check invoice! Overall, the atmosphere was incredibly tense and stressful. Never again!

We had to refund two dishes, as they were completely unbearable. The rice was completely overcooked, like porridge, and costs 1,50 € per person. The other fried dish was also overcooked and lacked flavour. We're happy we got the money back but won't come again. Also, you have to pay 0,50 € per take away container.

Very fast and good service. We've been here several times and it's always been great. The food came very quickly and was also very tasty. You can't complain about the prices either. 10/10 would recommend

Enjoy your meal. But we ordered 7 dishes and were charged for 8 dishes. We found it when we got home. Not sure if that's intentional. Check your bill.

Unfortunately I took 2 stars down because of the increase in price and decreased quality of food. Mai Garten used to be my favourite place before they expanded. After the opening of the second branch, I still found the food delicious albeit a slightly higher price. This is understandable as opening a bigger and second restaurant meant more operating costs. I recently went back there after quite a long hiatus. Not only the price has increased (at least 2€ per dish), rice no longer comes with the main dishes. I was very surprised when I was charged 1,50€ per bowl of rice (ordered 3 bowls in total) although we had ordered 2 appetizers and 4 main dishes which cost about 14-18€ per dish. The food is no doubt fresh but it didn’t taste as good as it used to. I do not recommend the xiao long tang bao. La zi ji and si ji dou are recommended amongst other Chinese food. Unfortunately due to the price hike, it is unlikely that I will go there frequently.

Good Chinese cuisine with authentic dishes. One evening I had dinner there with some Chinese friends. What I can highly recommend and also found incredibly good: Xiao long bao (dumplings with broth) and Guo Bao Rou. (fried pork salmon, sweet and sour). Guo Bao Rou in particular was so unexpectedly interesting in terms of taste and consistency! The meat was tender and coated in a thin, slightly translucent breading. Can't describe it properly. 🤔 So nice and crispy and delicious! It was kind of fun to eat. 😆 The sauce was sweet, but went very well with it. I thought this dish was the best thing of the evening. The duck, which was dry-fried in a wok with vegetables, was unfortunately super salty, so I had a hard time judging whether it was good. We also ordered a cold appetizer of beef and fried water spinach. These weren't bad. There are some good dishes there and also some that are ok. are. The service was attentive and friendly.

The dishes are prepared with ready-made sauces and Chinese salt. Probably even most of the vegetables are used frozen because they have left their juices in the high-heat wok if they need to be crispy. We asked for soup, they diluted the sweet and sour sauce, put a little tofu in it and brought it to us. We couldn't eat it. The uncle who served us smelled very strongly of cigarettes, which was enough to kill your appetite.

This is an authentic Asian dining experience - absolutely amazing. We had a team dinner, with colleagues from China who ordered for us. I don't even know what I had, but everything was outstanding. Dumplings, salads, chicken, beef, pork - all with a unique taste, similar to the food I had when visiting Beijing. The staff was welcoming, almost anticipating our requests in advance. I would highly recommend dining here for anyone who enjoys Asian food and culture.

Einige Gericht waren lecker und hatten gute Portionen, die anderen bisschen zu wenig und haben uns weniger geschmeckt. Ein Tipp von mir: Wenn möglich, immer vorher einen Platz reservieren, sonst kann es am Abend zur etwas längeren Wartezeit führen.

Vor einer Woche bin ich von meinem ersten (und sicher nicht letzten) Chinaaufenthalt zurückgekommen und hatte das dringende Bedürfnis, mal wieder anständig (also Chinesisch) zu essen. Ich bin sehr glücklich nach Hause gegangen und hatte den Eindruck, ein paar Stunden wieder in China gewesen zu sein. Das Essen genauso wie ich es vor Ort kennengelernt hatte. Die Einrichtung ohne diesen China-Firlefanz, den man hierzulande immer wieder antrifft. Sondern eben so wie in China: Tische, Stühle, Menschen, Leben. Wir haben zu Beginn, die Speisekarten zur Seite gelegt, unsere SItuation erklärt und gebeten, dass Kellner und Küche einfach die Führung übernehmen sollen - es war eine wunderbare Reise durch die Küche von Chinas Süden. Wo es zu einem Crash der Kulturen kommen kann: In China ist ein Restaurantbesuch insgesamt ein bisschen anders als bei uns. Das kriegt man auch im Mai Garten geboten - wenn man sich drauf einlässt. Ich freue mich auf meine nächsten Besuche.

每次来都会吃酸菜鱼，鱼肉鲜嫩，调味也不错！辣子鸡是裹面粉的炸鸡，鱼香茄子没有很下饭，三道菜两个女生吃份量刚刚好。

Everything we ordered has amazing flavor. I was feeling a bit ill and I will testify that the noodles with chicken healed my soul. The service was also great and very accommodating with English translated menus.

Went there with my Chinese friend and by far this was one of the best Chinese I’ve had in Munich! Loved all the dishes EXCEPT the yúxiāngqiézi (supposed be fried eggplant)- it was way different than how it was supposed to be and was wayyyy to sweet. But the other dishes like dry pot and Gua bao rou (OMG so freaking good) and the beef in the oil dish were all really good! So sad they only take EC cards or cash but Id definitely come back!

Ein Restaurant mit gutem Geschmack in der Nähe des Stadtzentrums von München. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Essen ist authentisch. Besonders empfohlen: Mei Cai Kou Rou.

Food was okay. Most of the staffs are really nice but the one making drinks (man with pony) is really impolite and rude.

The food is lovely and delicious, but the waitress keeps on asking people to leave the restaurant as soon as the food is almost finished, even if there are seats that are vacant.

味道真的挺一般的……甚至有点不好吃。第一次见辣子鸡外面裹着面粉炸的……吃完都不知道点的什么菜。扣肉就几片肉…… 才吃了二十分钟服务员就一直盯着桌上的空杯子，定了一小时也不至于这么急着倒台吧

The food tasted good, the dumplings were great, but it could use a bit of work on the presentation. The boss was great guy, but the rest of the staff not much. However, it was crowded, maybe a factor, but the other reviews don’t support that unfortunately.

慕尼黑最好的中餐家常菜，梅菜扣肉每次必点，餐厅里有好多经典的菜，比如水煮鱼，水煮肉片，干煸四季豆，手工三鲜饺，鱼香茄子，红烧牛腩，口水鸡，超强性价比，原汁原味，每次去老城都必吃。不过价格比原来的老店稍稍贵一些，也可以理解，毕竟老城的店面租金也高。

菜品：锅包肉真的超好吃！肉片得很薄，炸得也特脆，调味也好。干锅菜花/凉拌黄瓜/酸菜鱼，也都很赞！慕尼黑第一中餐厅👍

Ich kann empfehlen Mai Garten - super chinesische Gerichte und die Portion sind preiswert. Die Gerichte schmecken wie in China. Mein Lieblings sind: xiaolingbao , trocken gebratene Ente (Hauptspeise) und gemischte schweinmagen und Rindfleisch im scharfe Sauce (fu Qi fei pian) Very authentic Chinese food. Owner/chef is from nanjing. I can highly recommend . Generous portion too

A friend recommended this restaurant. We were there on Tuesday at 18:15 for dinner with 3 other friends and sat in the back corner. We ordered several dishes to split: Frühlingsrolle, eggplant, veggie noodles, peppered beef/veggies, beans (my personal favorite), dumplings and wantan soup. All were really nice and fairly priced! The service wasn't the best, however it also wasn't bad like other reviewers experienced. When we were there, it wasn't particularly busy yet. Our waitress didn't really come if we didn't grab her attention, but we were also taking our time and chatting, so we did not mind much. But she was nice and very friendly and gave us great recommendations. They also unfortunately didn't have chilled water available. Payment only allowed with EC card or cash.

Das Essen schmeckt wie in China. Es ist äußerst gut. Wer chinesisches Essen in China gegessen hat und den echten Geschmack wieder erfahren möchte, der findet genau das im Mai Garten.

Essen ist auf einem soliden Niveau, Service ist auch in Ordnung, auch wenn man nach dem ein Tisch zugewiesen wurde nochmal verschoben wurde. Ambiente könnte etwas freundlicher eingerichtet sein.

Ein kleines authentisches Restaurant. Man wird freundlich empfangen und gut bedient. Das Essen ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Einfach nur großartig im Geschmack, absolut empfehlenswert!!!
