Madre in Berlin

Cosy, small and friendly. Delicious food!

This has been my third time there, and unfortunately, the experience is getting worse and worse. The food tastes good, but it's getting a bit boring. Also, the menu is getting smaller and they are often out of stuff. The staff seems to be a bit overwhelmed, the waiting times for food can be over an hour, and the waiter / waitress is not even bothered to stop by and check whether people need some more drinks. Such a pity. The restaurant started so strong. 😢

Came here with friends for some drinks in the evening spontaneously and were really happy we stumbled upon Madre, it’s a cosy place with some interesting decos and friendly and attentive person working there. Have not tried their food but it looks delicious on the images too, maybe next time. Definitely recommend to visit!

Super nice, courteous staff and very tasty cuisine! The boss is usually personal and makes great drink recommendations. The atmosphere is incredibly beautiful and the decoration was made with a lot of love. Always a great experience there.

One of the best places in Friedrichshain. They have an Italian owner and chef and make incredible pasta. Really relaxing vibe and incredibly nice people working there.

We went there couple of times already. The food is really good and special! Mostly we go there for drinks because they serve really good cocktails with special ingredients. I highly recommend their tasty gin basil smash or bees knees!

Great bar, super attentive service who gave us direct and very good advice. I wanted an amaretto sour, unfortunately it wasn't available, but they made me a cocktail with hazelnut liqueur, which was really delicious!! highly recommended However, the prices were relatively high

This is one of my favorite locations in Boxi. Upon arrival to Madre, the decor with a slight italian goth vibe and their unique negroni selection will already set your mood for the evening.

Great food and drink, but the service was next level. Super friendly, thoughtful, and fun.

Fantastic food and cocktails! You wouldn't necessarily know that from the simple outside layout, but you shouldn't let that fool you - just step in. I appreciated the service I received already when I went to book a table, which continued when we were dining. I had grilled octupus and it was the best one I have ever had. Also the side dishes were delicous.

We were there three times, unfortunately the third time wasn't good. Despite wearing warm clothes, it was too cold in the restaurant and unfortunately communication with the service was difficult. The service is superficially friendly, but not really attentive. No German is spoken there and the English is so bumpy that there were several misunderstandings. Unfortunately not suitable for vegans either.

One of my favourite restaurants in Berlin. There is a great atmosphere with a cozy vibe. The service is friendly and unique. Usually the good options are the same, any meal is great and can recommend. Got sad when the octopus was removed in favour of the squid. Still good option. The cocktails are great and recommend. The price match the quality of the place. It is a must go for Berlin.

Everything was amazing- service 10000/10 such such sweet people. We were constantly refilled on yummy sourdough bread. They gave us a mini starter free of charge. The main dish was SO FIRE and good wine as well!! everyone at the table was super happy with their food! the place is small and candle lit!!!! Andddd we were sent home with 2 bags of extra sourdough bread. 100/10 experience. Adorable

Great service and mind-blowing good food

Can't praise this place enough. Delicate and elegant food - they just let the ingredients sing in every dish. Interesting cocktails and quality wine. The service was lovely - friendly staff who patiently explained everything on the menu. Card payments allowed. Reserve by dm-ing on Instagram!

The place looks stunning with great design, and the staff are really nice. However, the cocktails and food are just okay, nothing too special. I think the main reason it's popular is because of its convenient location.

The vongole was amazing - also their housemate schnappes were delicious! Especially the vegan chocolate one!

This restaurant have it all, the food is great, friendly staff and interesting interior. The cheese plate as a starter is a must.

Amazing atmosphere, attentive staff, great drinks. But the food is very disappointing, especially for the price. I was at Madre twice to try different dishes but food-wise it's just not convincing. The parmigiana was okay, as well as the Bufala Park. The risotto is probably the best main dish from the summer menu, but other than that the portions are tiny and don't have an exceptional taste, instead they are rather average. The Cacio e pepe and the vegan burger are disappointments in themselves and should be offered as a starter, but not as a main dish. I'd come back for some drinks, but there are better restaurants in the area to have a great dinner experience at.

Love the cocktails, I try 3 different ones and all of them were super good! Sergio (bartender) is super patience and nice to explain everything and give you the whole experience.

The place is very well located. The decoration inside is very cozy and everything in general very nice. We had some unique drinks and the bartender Sergio explained us in a very complete way all the menu and helped us choose the best cocktail, we really had one of the best experiences in the city!!!! Totally recommended!!!!!

Oh wow it’s really a great experience. As soon as you step in, you realize you’re in an …authentic place. Menu, goat candle holder, tiny baby pic on the wall, Gigeresque mirror, Call of Cthulhu, wine, music, chocolate liqueur… everything is unique and amazing!

Presentation is good, food has no taste, 16€ for a pasta with artichokes??? If I pay 16€ for that I expect the pasta to at least be home made!!

A unique place with wonderful staff! Food is fresh, thoughtful, however at times heavy, maybe a bit too much oil or butter in most dishes. From the perspective of flavor, all dishes can use an extra level of a kick, a tad more on the intensity. But it is still a place where I return with pleasure.

One of the best restaurants in Berlin. Small but well thought out menu, all the dishes are impeccably finished. Cocktails are interesting and faultless, and the decor is both eclectic and cleverly suited to the space. One of my fave spots!

Ich habe mich super willkommen gefühlt, Speisen waren toll. Super Restaurant & Service. Sehr leckere Speisen, Büffelmozzarella war ein Traum. Service und Getränke gut.

The customer service is by far the best I have ever received Berlin. Also the place and the atmosphere are unique. Drinks were good as well. Regarding the food, some details could be improved. ie: dishes are not heated when serving the food. We were 3 people and the dishes didn’t come at the same time. First two dishes were not hot enough, and unfortunately the third dish was under cooked. We raised our concerns, and they were a acknowledged and acted upon. We end up having an amazing time! I would definitely come back. I do recommend the sea food, if you see squid and spring onions puree, go for it!

Great place, the staff is very polite, pleasant and kind, you forget you're in Berlin! I've been there a couple times already and it never disappoints. Prices are average to expensive, but it's well worth it! Food and cocktails are made with the heart and are delicious. The interior design of this place is also really special, as well as the dimmed lights. The atmosphere created fits very well with the cocktails, and dishes served and it's overall aesthetic of the place. You can reserve a table via Instagram. Payment possible by card. Dogs allowed inside. There is literally nothing bad to say about the place. Would recommend 100%!

Das Essen war fabelhaft! Die Bedienung ist überaus bemüht, zuvorkommend und wirklich sehr freundlich. Wenn man keinen Hunger mitbringt lohnt es sich auf jeden Fall auch für die Drinks vorbei zu schauen. Alles in allem: Wir kommen wieder!

If I could give Madre 10 stars I absolutely would. This is honestly by far one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin for many reasons. An absolute hidden gem 🖤 This was the 3rd time my husband and I have been there for date night and absolutely everything was perfect, from the food to the AMAZING cocktails, cozy atmosphere and insanely delicious wine selection. It makes for the perfect date night. We tried the octopus pasta and mushroom risotto this time around and it was simply delicious 🤤. To top the whole experience off the lovely women who is the owner or host honestly is just the absolute best. Ask her the story about the Zebra! Seriously just go there! You won’t regret it! Thank you Madre 🦓🖤

Essen war sehr lecker! Der alkoholfreie Digestiv war der Hammer. Bedienung war freundlich, konnte aber nur Englisch und die Karte gab es auch nur auf Englisch. Für uns kein Problem, aber ich finde das ganz schön dekadent. Es gibt schließlich auch Leute, die nicht so gut Englisch können! Evtl. Nicht-Akademiker*innen, ältere Menschen - sind die hier unerwünscht? Dafür ein Stern Abzug! Geht gar nicht, finde ich.

Super netter Service. Sehr kreative und originelle Küche. Würde es geschmacklich aber eher Veganern / Vegetariern weiter empfehlen.

Just simply first class experience. You definitely wont regret eating or drinking anything here. The daiquiri, gerardito, grilled octopus, pasta with anchovies , pesto gnocchi, pasta polpk dio , everything was sublime. Service had a excellent presentation and execution. Dont mistake the owner for a homeless yogi guru artist. He’s simply a gourmet guru in disguise. The place has quite a unique interior and vibe. Haha i visually enjoy the toilets decor and art also. Everything seems to be designed and placed with extreme ikigai. Id say less recommended for larger groups if you randomly pop by.

Exceptional customer service, some of the best I’ve had in Berlin. Service does take a good long while so be prepared to wait. Food range from very good to tasteless (quite literally) and cocktails were a little unrefined. Lovely concept and vibe. Very Friedrichshain. The menu changes often so there is definitely value in coming every other month if you like the food. Struggled with the rating as I would not come by again as there were more than a few disappointments for the price but I did enjoy my time there as the customer service was spectacular. Good food: Bufala salad with tempura zucchini, great tempura batter and fry. Parmigiana was very good, excellent produce. Grilled octopus was above average for Berlin but the sides were under seasoned. Lemon Dome dessert was spectacular. Ok food: Parpadelle with anchovies and tomatoes had nice produce as well but also under seasoned. Cocktails were nothing to shout about but perfectly acceptable. Bad Food: Tofu stew was extremely odd and it was a like a red wine stew with 5 spice firm tofu thrown in as an afterthought. Pesto Gnocchi was tasteless and I would not be surprised if a mistake was made during the cook as it quite literally felt like salt was forgotten on every component of the dish so I’m not docking off a star.

Someone here said it already: stop reading the reviews and just go there! Today, we came here for the first time and enjoyed lovely 1) Zucchini Flower Tempura x Burrata on a salad bed 2) Imaginary Tomatoes Pasta 3) Pulpo We appreciated the creative and delicious dishes as well as well-made cocktails and excellent service! Coming back for sure.

in Friedrichshain gibt es ja sehr viele nette Lokale, aber das ist wirklich eine Perle, wo alles (Ambiente, Service und vor allem das Essen) das gewisse Etwas und das Pünktchen auf dem "i" hatte...

Incredible food experience... So yummy, totally nice staff.

Bien qu'arrivés relativement tard dans la soirée, nous avons été accueillis avec gentillesse. On nous a proposé un choix restreint compte tenu de la fin du service, mais tout était d'une extraordinaire qualité. Une ratatouille présentée en millefeuille, des aubergines à la parmigiana moelleuse et fondantes, une salade accompagnée de mozzarella di Buffala merveilleusement assaisonnée avec des produits frais et joliment présentés. Une adresse à ne pas manquer.

Best Italian in Fhain: Unique experience because of the fresh always changing menu, the amazing staff and the vibe which is so different than any other Italian place. Had my birthday there. Could have made a better choice!

The staff is super nice, and we had a great evening here with friends! Try the shared tapas at 19 euros, it's a good plan for 2-3 persons. Their empenadas and banana based products are so good! Check out the cocktails too, they're quite generous compared to other restaurant.

We had a really nice evening here. Most stylish place in da hood, staff super friendly. I had the octopus which is superb and a good portion - you don't necessarily need a starter. Still, kitchen it not 'tastes from another planet', but simply good. And the best: how the receipt is served. 😆 Will be back fo sho!

Se come muy muy rico! Un poco caro ... y el lugar es más onda bar, con musica alta y no se puede hablar, por el ruido, pero esta bueno, es algo diferente. La gente atendiendo es muy buena onda.

Call of Cthulhu octopus!!! So tender and well prepared. The place is a delightful combination of art noire, African animals, surreal art, concrete and colourful plexi glass and the soundtrack also sounds more like a very artsy bar than a restaurant. Which is a good thing! The bread is served from a skull and the bill comes stuck in a zebra statue. Go sample this absolute gem if you're in search for something unique ❤️

Update: Second visit. Staff and owner seemed to remember us which was amazing. Bufala Salad was delicious and pulpo great as always. Gnocchi though was bland, only disappointment. Skip it. Otherwise, still 5 stars! OMG! So good! Took a long time to get reservations (always full), but so worth it when we did! Our new favorite in Berlin. And not only is the food amazing, but there's actually great service!!! (Never in Berlin!). ❤️❤️❤️ 100€ for 2-- 1 appetizer, 2 mains, 4 drinks, 1 dessert. Zebras!!

The music. The vibe. The FOOD. The PEOPLE. This place is a must visit in Berlin. The food is delicious, the portions generous and the Cocktails hit the spot. To it off, the service is fantastic! We will be back.

The place is quite unusual it offers rather good Italian food yet the space is sort of darkish and music was a bit on a hard side. I've ordered pasta with anchovies and burrata and it was good, we also enjoyed Nebiollo. What really impressed me is a girl from Taiwan, which works as a waitress. In the end of the evening, though the place was already closing, she served us some herbal drink and was super kind and supportive. It was really needed to our wounded souls. Thank you!
