Not really authentic. Bless a German. Given the name, I would have expected chutney, but it wasn't there.

Amazing people and amazing food! We have spent 5 days in Munich and this was our favourite experience! Our waitors Sandy and Karan were really friendly and helped us with the menu and local knowledge about Germany. Will definitely be back in our next trip

Huge restaurant in the basement. The seating is very tight and therefore it is extremely loud in the evening when the shop is full. Our table was stuck (table top and edges). The food wasn't great, not really cheap. The ambience didn't convince me. Reservations are strongly recommended as a television report generated a lot of attention.

Five stars because the food is the most important thing in a restaurant. Recommendation: Go with someone you no longer have anything to say to each other. You can't have a conversation with the infernal noise level.

Their Butter chicken was too good not too sweet to suite German taste buds and not too hot to make the Germans run away either . Perfect. The biryani was great too

2024: The restaurant offered a nice ambiance with a good selection of street food options, which I particularly enjoyed. However, the rice in the biryani was unfortunately dry. The vegetarian option which we took was good. 2025: Been here again—this time the dragon chicken was a bit too hard, while the rest of the dishes were okay.

Finally made it to Madam Chutney – and it was worth the wait! Ever since we saw the feature on the restaurant, we’d been eager to try the food. Without a reservation, it’s probably impossible to get a table – and even with one, you have a two-hour time slot. The restaurant was larger than expected, though unfortunately, due to the number of guests, it was incredibly noisy – more like a train station than a cozy dining spot. The background music was at a pleasant volume, though I would’ve expected some Bollywood tunes to give it more of an Indian vibe. The staff were extremely attentive and super friendly – huge thanks for the excellent service! The food was fantastic and impressively authentic. I really appreciated the thoughtful and creative menu – finally something beyond the usual standard dishes. The only downside was the spice level: despite our dishes not being marked as spicy in the menue, they were very hot – even hotter than some meals I’ve had in India. It seems chilli powder had been added a bit too generously. While I understand that adds authenticity, for untrained European stomachs it can be a bit too much. Unfortunately, the waiter didn’t ask us about spice preferences, and I forgot to mention it. The Paan ice cream was a lovely surprise – the flavor was incredibly close to the original! Sadly, it was half-melted when served, likely because it was placed on a still-warm plate – probably an oversight. All in all, the meal was a great experience – high-quality, delicious, and well worth the price.

Great restaurant! Incredible food, the best Indian I've ever had. There were two of us and we had a really great evening. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Price performance is also more than okay and the location is really unique, even if the terrace was unfortunately closed today. We'll be back!!!!

Had a terrible experience at madam chutney! I made a lunch reservation for 2 oclock. The person who took the reservation did not say anything about restaurant closing at 2.30. We reached there at 2. The people there were only concerned about closing time. They were saying that they will close at 2.30 no matter what and that we needed to order immediately. We placed the order and as soon as the food came altogether, the person immediately came to take the bill amount before we could even take a bite. We had paid for the food before we could eat. They kept reminding us that they would close at 2.30. We rushed through the ordering, paying and even the eating. I told the person that they should have informed me when i was reserving. They kept shifting the blame on each other as that was clearly an internal problem because of which we suffered as guests. They had no courtesy to apoloize even! Horrific behavior! Shall never visit again nor will recommend to any of my friends or family! Worst experience! Food was extremely average but the whole experience was spoiled because of the staffs attitude!

Mango lassy was full of essence. Food was okay and was served cold.

It's worth making a reservation. Loud, warm, delicious!

I was in the restaurant with Indian friends. I have already been to both North India and South India. Overall, the food was good, even if not everything tasted and was put together in a typical way. The red dipping sauce was very Germanized and bland, but the mint sauce tasted very good. We had ordered different types of chicken. The taste was good but the consistency of one of the dishes was not typically Indian. It was very crowded and loud - it was like a dovecote. The waitresses were very friendly and on point. Overall, the restaurant is recommended - but the hype is exaggerated. One or two tables could be removed to create a more comfortable atmosphere - every millimeter is used. To spend a cozy evening - you're better off looking for another location.

I was absolutely thrilled! The Indian restaurant impresses across the board: the atmosphere is cozy and authentic, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. But the highlight is of course the food – every dish was perfectly seasoned, freshly prepared and full of flavor. The Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan were especially to die for! I'll definitely be back - a clear recommendation for anyone who loves or wants to get to know Indian cuisine!

Visited with my friends yesterday and overall, we had a good experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting. We tried quite a few dishes – Lamb Kheema Pav, Dahi Chaat, Pani Puri, Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, Tikka Kathi Roll, and the Nawab Special Chicken Biryani – and each one impressed us in terms of flavor and presentation. The Butter Chicken and Kheema Pav were personal favorites! The only downside was the service at the beginning – we were left waiting for quite some time and had to call the waiter multiple times despite the restaurant not being busy. Thankfully, once the food started coming in, the experience picked up and made up for the slow start. Would definitely recommend it for the food and ambiance – just hoping for better attentiveness from the staff next time.

I had ordered just now Mattar paneer and Samosa chaat. I usually am not a person to give less reviews giving them a benefit of the doubt but each and food used to make this meal and the taste was really bad not only was it smelling bad but the taste I couldn’t even eat it. Madam chutney please do better because the food that I got was one of the worst food ive ever had not even exaggerating. What a waste of money food and time.

The food was way too spicy even for me as an Indian! The item that I ordered did not have „spicy“ marked next to it and still came inhumanely spicy. Neither did the waiter tell me about it when I placed the order. When I complained about it, the waiter blamed me instead and walked away. Also the ambience is a bit suffocating with the restaurant being in the basement and gets super loud. Not recommended for a pleasant meal.

The food was really excellent. However, the service was slightly overwhelmed and we had to wait longer. Unfortunately it was also very crowded in the large room, the seating was very narrow and therefore it was very loud and stuffy. A reservation is highly recommended, we were there on a Tuesday evening and every seat was taken.

How you can't give this 5 stars is beyond my comprehension. The food is the focus here and every single dish tasted fantastic. The menu is not unjustified in its praise of its dishes: the kitchen also performs very well! The starter plate alone had many variations of Indian cuisine to offer; Luckily the leg of lamb was still available and was tender as butter. Excellent to take but quick. The others are also for me and then I think they also have a 10 minute level of spiciness. The staff is unobtrusive and not too polite for a little chat. The entire ambience fits, no kitsch from Bollywood, but an authentic look. The price was absolutely reasonable for the experience! I'll definitely end up here again the next time I'm in Munich!!

The best Indian food in the loudest restaurant! It's so noisy that I don't think I'll go back there despite the exceptional quality of the cuisine. In addition, the card would benefit from small symbols to identify vegetarian meals at a glance.

Had an amazing experience at Madam Chutney! The food was absolutely delicious — we ordered Gobi Manchurian and Chole Bhature, and both dishes were bursting with flavor. The Chole Bhature had the perfect blend of spices and the bhature were soft and fluffy, while the Gobi Manchurian was crispy and perfectly seasoned. A special shoutout to Karan who served us — he truly made our visit exceptional. One of the best service experiences we've had! Karan was extremely courteous, attentive, and helpful throughout. He made great recommendations, ensured we were comfortable, and checked in just the right amount to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend Madam Chutney — and if you go, hope you're lucky enough to be served by Karan!

The interior is worse and old. There is no ventilation at all. Some tables are old and chair is a very basic model compared to other restaurants, through which I got back pain. The service staff is so pathetic especially the guy who speaks Hindi. He doesn't even consider what customers say. Regarding the food, I ordered chicken tikka biriyani but they gave chicken dum biriyani which is not in the menu itself. But, the taste of the food is good. Overall, I would say if you want to try their food, then you can go but if you need a pretty good ambience and expect atleast a basic level of customer service, then please avoid.

Third class food and poor reception by the manager. The street food is really pathetic and the Pani puri especially looks like a standard ready to eat from Haldirams.

Be aware of aggressive service staff while paying! Our recent visit to Madam Chutney on Saturday, April 7, 2025, left us with mixed feelings. As frequent guests of this charming restaurant, we have always enjoyed bringing our friends along to savor the exquisite Indian cuisine and indulge in the consistently great food that Madam Chutney offers. The ambience has always been inviting, making it a perfect spot for a delightful evening. However, this time, our experience was marred by disappointing service. After enjoying a lovely meal, I paid the bill of approximately €240 with my credit card and added a tip. To my surprise, the waiter reacted unfavorably, aggressively asking for more. This behavior completely ruined what had been a wonderful dining experience. To alleviate the awkwardness, I reluctantly handed him additional cash, but it did little to restore the enjoyment of our evening. Given our frequent visits, we felt compelled to discuss this incident with another staff member whom we know. He confirmed that such practices are not acceptable and even encouraged us to voice our concerns via a google review. While I appreciate the effort to address the situation, I find it unfortunate that it escalated to this point. It’s essential to note that while we are in Munich, the expectations around tipping differ significantly from those in America. A tip of over 10% is not the norm here, and we believe that appreciative service should not come with pressure or intimidation. As much as we love Madam Chutney, this experience has left us reconsidering our future visits. We hope this feedback raises awareness for the management and contributes to a more pleasant experience for future guests. Great food deserves great service, and we sincerely hope our next visit will reflect that.

Super delicious food, impeccable service and easy to come back😍

We had travelled from City for a day tour and came to Restaurant especially after having watched your documentary on ARD which was inspiring, but unfortunately it was really disappointed after the Visit. Wait time outside- 15 min even when inside lot of free spaces where available. After getting inside, took 10-15 m to take order and post that slow service. We started with Mango lassi which wax full of essence, followed by Paneer lababdar, which was tasteless. Roti and laccha paratha was burnt( photos of second Roti after we returned first as it was not eatable) After this we did not dare to order anything. Not so good experience. The restaurant around my house serves far better food, service and ambience.

Unfortunately, this was one of the rare negative dining experiences I’ve had in Germany. The service was notably rude, which overshadowed the meal itself. I ordered four meals for my family, but the bill included five. It turned out that two small pieces of bread were charged as a full meal—something I wasn’t informed about at the time. While one staff member did attempt to assist, he was unable to resolve the issue. Another staff member, a bald man, responded in an unprofessional and disrespectful tone, raising his voice instead of offering an explanation. As for the food, it was decent, but far from exceptional. I’ve had much better Indian cuisine elsewhere, accompanied by far more welcoming service. In short, I wouldn’t recommend this place—especially if you’re a tourist, as the staff’s attitude made it clear they weren’t particularly accommodating to visitors from out of town.

The starter was good, but both main courses were an imposition. I've rarely eaten worse. Just sad.

Highly recommended! The dishes were finely seasoned, not overly spiced, and beautifully presented. Fresh, crisp salads; everything was excellent. Only the butter naan was rather bland, but that's purely a matter of taste. The price was still reasonable.

Super disappointing! I went here with my girlfriends but the food and even drinks leave a lot to be desired! I've been to many Indians but this one is out of the ordinary! First of all I ordered a Masala Chai which tasted completely indefinable and they even forgot the sugar, which is normally always included here! Then we ordered a starter, but instead of a traditional Indian starter we were given an indefinable mass that was covered in 5 different sauces. Normally the sauce is always served with it in Indian restaurants! It looked so disgusting, I didn't want to eat it at all. Then the main course, a friend of mine had shrimp that were completely charred at one end. I had Chicken Tikka, but the meat was extremely fibrous and gristly, I have never experienced anything like that!!!!! I can only imagine that meat waste was used here!!!! In addition, there was far too little rice, normally with Indian you always get a generous portion of rice, and immediately refill (free) when it runs out. But here you only get 3 tablespoons! My girlfriend ordered something spicy but couldn't finish it because there was no rice!!!! Instead of rice there was salad, which really confused us. Normally there is NEVER a salad with a curry in an Indian restaurant, unless you specifically order one. I would have liked more rice and less salad. Furthermore, there are no thalis, and they didn't even serve poppadoms as a small appetizer. So I've never experienced that with an Indian...? It's also way too expensive for the quality it offers! We then just paid and left, but I will never come here again. It's a disgrace to call such a place Indian, every Indian would be ashamed if they came here!

classic German Indian without any particular surprise

The best mango lassi I've ever had. Nicely decorated, and we don't even need to talk about the food. From the naan bread to the pani puri to the butter chicken, everything is wonderful and super delicious. Definitely recommended. And don't worry, most dishes have a very pleasant spiciness.

We were really looking forward to this first visit to Madam Chutney. At the entrance we were kindly informed again that the table was reserved for 2 hours. When we arrived at the table, we were immediately handed the oversized cards and were just starting to look through them when the waiter was already standing next to us (after 2 minutes) and wanted to take our order. We asked for a little more time, we were given another 2 minutes...then we ordered the drinks and he was standing next to us again and wanted our food order. The food came promptly and after an incredible 40 minutes we were back in front of the restaurant. We felt like we were being rushed through the food, even though it was really, really tasty. We'll definitely be back and hope we won't be so rushed next time.

El ambiente es bueno desde fuera, pero está lleno de gente. El gerente del restaurante era bueno, pero el camarero era grosero y sesgado con el color de la piel. El servicio fue horrible. En realidad, el primer entrante viene con bebidas más tarde el plato principal. Aquí, todos los bocadillos y el plato principal se reunieron sin bebidas. Es muy difícil tomar aperitivos fríos crujientes con comida caliente juntos al mismo tiempo. Respecto a la comida callejera, estuvo por debajo de la media. Aunque dice que son auténticos pero demasiado picantes como la samosa, los papadi chaats con exceso de especias no son realmente necesarios. Los rollitos de Kathi se sirven con tortillas, mientras que los auténticos se sirven con roties de rumali. En realidad no es auténtico como se declaró. Demasiada cobertura mediática sin relación calidad-precio.

Nicely decorated. The starters were good, the main courses were okay. There are a few dishes you won't find anywhere else. The price is slightly above average. The service was friendly, but they didn't pay attention to us for a long time.

First time in Munich and noticed the restaurant Aufmerskam. The food was excellent and for the service alone, Benji is worth visiting the restaurant!

Das platzieren hat relativ lange gedauert. Lokal sowas von laut! Haben auf das Essen eine geschlagene Stunde gewartet ( meiner Meinung nach zu lange!) Dann kam ein sehr , sehr mächtiges Essen in extremer Sahne Soße …. Alles in allem keinen weiteren Besuch wert !

Unfortunately, the food was only mediocre for me. I expected more. I don't know the roti the way they prepare it. The mixed starter platter looked like it had been eaten before. The samosa could have been served nicer than just a plate full of food.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Munich. Have been there twice already, would definitely go again. Though it might be a little more expensive than most Indian restaurants, their food and ambience definitely makes up for it. They also have a really nice cocktail menu.

Super nice service and a great selection. The butter chicken was a little spicier than expected but tasted great and was a large portion. We were there on Monday evening and it was super full, so it's definitely worth making a reservation. So of course it's a little louder, but if that doesn't bother you, it's a great ambience.

We like to eat Indian food often. Everything at Madame Chutney was very tasty, but the starters Papri Chaat and Samosas were particularly exceptional and incredibly good.

First of all: The food was very good. I've eaten a lot of Indian food and found new things here too, which completely convinced me. BUT: What doesn't work is this hectic pace. The service staff tries very hard, too hard for my standards. Once you have the card in your hand, someone asks you what you want to order every 2 minutes. It's not relaxing at all. OK, after the third one came, we at least knew which wine we wanted to drink. Good. We then ordered starters and a main course, which came about 3 minutes after we ordered. We had barely finished the starter when the waiter was standing next to us with the main course. The tables next to us were there before us and didn't even have the drinks??? Unbelievably, we finished eating 30 minutes after arriving. It had the character of a train station hall and was in no way a nice evening with good food. So for everyone: First order drinks, then wait 10 minutes, then order starters and when they're eaten, order the main course. Especially when there are only two of you. It's probably more relaxed for larger groups, but we didn't have a pleasant evening there. This is not made up for by the good food.

The food was excellent and very authentic, the service was also very good. You have to take into account that we were there relatively early (5 p.m.). We each had half left over and wanted to have them packed, unfortunately not everything was packed for us but only half of the dishes, even though we had specifically said that we wanted to take everything with us. There is a star deduction for this. We've already been there for dinner and some of it wasn't packed. Nevertheless, we will definitely come back.

Wurde beim Aufenthalt das Gefühl nicht los, dass der Profit absolut im Vordergrund steht, das Lokal rappelvoll, Essen sehr schnell serviert, keine Beratung/Empfehlung, kein Nachfragen ob Dessert gewünscht, denn der Tisch wird schnell wieder benötigt. Indian restaurant with excellent food. The service staff was very attentive and the food we ordered came surprisingly quickly. The menu is very extensive with explanations of the origins of each dish. However, the tables are quite closely spaced, which creates a significant level of noise in a fully occupied restaurant (we were there on a Monday evening). Be sure to reserve!

This is a very good Indian restaurant in the heart of Munich. You should absolutely make a reservation here of u don't want to wait. The place is often very very full. The volume can also be quite extreme depending on when u dine there. The food is great, hands down... Very very good. The service is alright, not great, but alright. These are very stressed and hard working staff and thus take a while to be able to check in on you or take your plates off your table or ask if you would like anything else. Sometimes you have the feeling they don't want you to order dessert because they want you out so that they can get the next patrons in on your table. (This is just a feeling I got on one of my two visits) Overall, it's a nice dining experience if you make a reservation. I will be eating here again :-)

Very good food, the outside terrace is also nice. Service very pleasant. Update March 2025: I've been there 3 times now, but I definitely won't come back! You get stressed out that you order and eat quickly: the main course came while we were still eating the starter. At the end you are asked how it was but criticism is simply ignored by the head waiter!!! It's a shame when you can't combine good food with gastronomic skills...

Paneer Tikka Ajwani was very tasty and the cocktails were also very good! The waiters are super nice. The restaurant is always busy, reservations are recommended! Very loud for entertainment!

Ordered Gulab Jamun with Rabdi from UberEats and received barely a teaspoon of Rabdi. When my husband complained about it to them, he was told to go to the restaurant for a replacement. It was already quite late in the night so he asked if he could pick it up the next day instead but they refused! #badservice

We came especially from Frankfurt to eat here. That wasn't a mistake. Unobtrusively friendly service people provided us with various starters and main courses full of wonderful aromas and delicate spiciness. We enjoyed this evening and still only had two **: the overall positive impression was destroyed by the condition of the men's toilet, which made urinary behavior the better option as early as 9:30 p.m. Too bad.

The food was mostly tasty, but the spicy labeling wasn't right at all. The starters were quite spicy, although there was no chilli on the side. The Malai Kofta was very lightly seasoned and therefore not that good. The atmosphere was very hectic and the waiters were abrupt and left immediately. After an hour we were checked in, unfortunately it wasn't comfortable. Tables very close together. I wouldn't recommend it for an evening for two.

This food lacks taste! Nowhere near authentic!

The food was OK, or even worse. Quite tastless, only spicy but not good. Not tasting indian at all. I would probably do a better job cooking for myself. The place was SAD. A german bräuhaus without any kind of taste in the interior design, no references to the indian culture. Couldn't talk with the weiter, he was too far and busy not caring about me and the people sitting next to me. Also, the place is CROWDED, litterally: too many tables and too much people, chaos all around me, couldn't talk with my neighbours. Extremely expensive, one bottle of water costed me 8€. Won't come back. And you shouldn't too.

We ate there three days ago. We really really liked it. Great ambience, delicious and unusual Indian food. Albeit sharper than expected. Nice service. However, it was also super full, almost overloaded with guests.

Today was my third visit and the food has consistently declined in quality. The waiter was rude, didn't even respond or even smiled after we tipped. Definitely over rated and over priced.

Absolutely bad service, ordered cola and it came flat they replaced again with the same flat cola. Ordered food with full of oil and 4 times salt in vegetables. When complained they said nothing and after 35 mins they said that they can replace the new dish, which was their idea that we don’t reorder. Also no one even came to ask anything, all the food was tasteless, and all the food wasted. Guess no wonder that no Indian people were eating and the local Germans or non Indian were eating,they don’t even know the taste of the food. Price wise it was a loot. 40 € food wasted and didn’t even show respect for their shameless errors. And the waiters they stink with dirty cigarettes when you talk to them. Would advise others to be careful

We came here because of the good reviews and articles. We had a mixed experience. The food was generally very tasty - unfortunately my dish, which was not marked as spicy, was very difficult for me to enjoy and in my opinion should definitely have been marked as spicy. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself gives the impression of mass processing. The tables are lined up close together and the noise level was almost unbearable on a Friday evening. Fewer tables would be appropriate here, as the restaurant would completely lose its charm.
