We've been coming to Lorenz-Strauße for many years, and it's truly a lovely place. Of course, it's grown and changed a bit over time, but it's still lovely. Good food and a unique ambiance are what make it special. We always enjoy coming back.

The place is very nice, tastefully decorated, and the service was really good—but the food was unfortunately a problem. We had reserved a table for 10 people for Saturday at 6:00 PM (friends of ours from Strasbourg were coming to Freiburg, and we wanted to show them this place because we had been there before and liked it). However, half of the menu was no longer available—we were told that everything was already sold out. The daily specials were also almost all gone—there was only one option left. So there were very few dishes to choose from, and on top of that, they don't accept credit cards (I couldn't find any information about this on the website). In the end, we just had to eat what was left. I'm sorry to write this review, but the restaurant really should be better prepared. If they accept reservations, they should also plan accordingly for the food—otherwise, it seems like they're only concerned with sales and not the customer experience. Thank you very much.

I've been a regular customer for at least 15 years. It has nothing to do with ostriches anymore. The price/performance ratio is simply not right! For that price, I'd go to a restaurant and have my own table—so I don't have to share it with others. Unfortunately, it's become a "snob shop." It's nowhere near what it used to be.

The atmosphere is warm, informal, and authentic—exactly what you'd expect from a wine tavern. The food was an absolute delight: regional, freshly prepared, and cooked with love. Whether hearty classics or seasonal specialties, every dish was perfect. The service was friendly, attentive, and warm—you can tell that genuine hospitality is practiced here. The combination of excellent cuisine, a cozy ambiance, and a warm welcome makes the Lorenz Strauße a place you'll gladly return to again and again. Our conclusion: We would return anytime—highly recommended!

I've only had the best experiences at the Lorenz Strauße; the 5* rating speaks for itself. I've spent many wonderful moments in the welcoming, cozy atmosphere. I've been traveling exclusively by public transportation for several years now and couldn't find any information about which public buses I should take from Freiburg to visit the ostrich farm. But a friendly employee explained the updated app to me at the Freiburg Inclusion Day, and now I can soon visit my beloved ostrich farm again.

I was absolutely blown away by this ostrich! The countless mirrors everywhere create an incredible ambiance. The hosts and staff are on the ball and super friendly, and the food was very good. Highly recommended!

The ambiance is fine if you like over-the-top decor. The food, well, was thawed, uncaringly slapped onto the plate. Please bring your own spices; there's nothing except salt and pepper. When we asked if it tasted good, we received the reply: The fried bread is too greasy, Bibbilis cheese is just low-fat curd cheese, and the sausage salad simply tastes bland. The answer: Ah, yes, OK. I would have accepted it for half the price, but in our opinion, it's not worth more than half.

No flavor, the sauce was disgusting, and the asparagus was woody. It was like mass-produced food, reminiscent of cafeteria food. The schnitzel wasn't particularly tasty either.

Schade, die Preise sind extrem gestiegen (Dreierlei 18€), Räumlichkeiten vergrößert, Qualität mittelmässig, mit Strauße hat das nichts mehr zu tun. Warum kann man in der heutigen Zeit nicht mit Karte bezahlen? Wir wollten unseren Freunden eine besondere Strauße zeigen - war uns leider peinlich. Wir können sie schweren Herzens nicht mehr empfehlen.

Nice ambience, nice service. I had a very mixed rump steak with 20% cartilage. They also used to be twice as high. But it's probably like everywhere else, the quantity is halved, the price stays the same or goes up. The waitress said she would pass on the complaint about the gristly rump steak to the kitchen. Unfortunately, not even an espresso came as no compensation… Crème brûlée for €7.50 the size of a beer mat and a mini jar of chocolate mousse for €6.50. I wouldn't take the desserts again because the price-performance ratio isn't right at all.

Very nice atmosphere in the Strauße. Unfortunately they don't cook that well and it's also very expensive. €66 for two people for asparagus, schnitzel, trio, a desert, two spritzers and water. The fried potatoes were not good and cold, the rest were ok but not good. Very good service.

We used to enjoy going to the Lorenzstrauße often and very much - the atmosphere is nice, the staff were always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately our impression has changed over the last few visits. The prices are no longer in proportion to the quality and quantity of the food. Unfortunately the taste is rather average and the portions are really small. A children's portion of Brägele was particularly disappointing: very small, quite greasy or even burnt - and for €6, which we found to be significantly overpriced. It's a shame, because the ostrich actually has a lot of potential. We hope that something positive develops here again.

... we have been visiting the Lorenz ostriches for over 6 years. We were there for the 6th time yesterday and were always very satisfied. Because of the quality, it is well attended, cozy and very individually furnished.

Maybe there were just the wrong people in the kitchen today, but the price-performance ratio of the food wasn't right. The Brägele were mostly burnt black and the small schnitzel came out of the deep fryer. Everything was decorated a bit carelessly. We had come here several times before but this time it was unfortunately a disappointment.

In this extraordinary and special ostrich you can enjoy delicious, regional home cooking. Especially during the (pre-)Christmas period, the restaurant becomes a spectacle due to the very loving decoration. Highly recommended!

The ambience and service are very positive. The equipment with the many mirrors and currently the Christmas decorations are unbeatable. The service, as usual, was always attentive and very friendly. I would like to complain about the food. I have enjoyed visiting this ostrich again and again over the last few years. Prices have now risen sharply. So far it's ok, it costs a lot more to buy. But at the same time the portions have become more manageable and the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I had schnitzel with sauce and fried potatoes. It tasted good, but I would have liked a little more meat between the breading. I got the impression that there was a lot of savings going on here. In my opinion, the current price-performance ratio for an ostrich farm is no longer correct.

Although the decoration is still wonderful, the small menu offers hardly any options for vegetarians. And: We didn't have enough cash for 5 people. We live in 2024 and you wonder why a packed restaurant doesn't accept card payments. We had to pay for the full drinks with the kids and find another restaurant. Unfortunately no more recommendation!

Mussten mit den Kids die vollen Getränke bezahlen und uns ein anderes Restaurant suchen. Leider keine Empfehlung mehr!

Excellent food in large portions at a reasonable price. The pancakes with spinach and feta filling are delicious. The ambience impresses with 100s of mirrors on walls and pillars, which make everything seem larger.

Very cozy location and friendly service. When it comes to plated meals, no wishes are taken into account in any way, not even changing a side dish is possible. It is completely incomprehensible to me that in 2024 card payments will not be possible in a restaurant in this price range. It's even on the menu...

Turkey schnitzel, well it wasn't bad, I ordered a portion but got 2 and with the wine just like that, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing

There were nine of us and unfortunately we all found the portions quite manageable as the prices were already above the ostrich level. Adjust the portions a bit and the price/performance ratio will be right again. Still very nice and comfortable. Be sure to reserve.

Always an experience! Finally a place where you can go out to eat spontaneously without making reservations weeks in advance... The decoration is unique - you have enough to look at if you ever run out of things to talk about. And then the food: always delicious!!!

Old butterfly, the prices are now also at their finest! Charging 25.70 for two schnitzels with potato salad (32.70 with a side salad of which 2/3 consists of a leaf salad of one variety) is really "respectable" (wasn't anything organic?!). I always thought 20 euros for a SchniPoSa here in Freiburg would be pretty decent. They have been coming for over 15 years but the carer's salary no longer supports that. And last but not least: I'm a big fan of old school black music, but when it comes to paying you could be in the 21st century (card versus cash, you know?!).

The portions are smaller and the price has increased significantly, which is often the case. But what disappoints most is the careless preparation. The food was hardly seasoned, the beef salad was tough and tasteless, and the fried potatoes were sometimes not cooked properly. There remains a feeling of mass processing. Dissatisfaction was also heard from the neighboring table. Unfortunately, this does not add any value and basically makes going to the restaurant unnecessary. The waitress was approached in a friendly manner and responded in an exemplary manner in a friendly and accommodating manner. All in all, unfortunately, the disappointment remained. And especially because we knew it much better.

Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt schon lange nicht mehr, waren im Mai mit Familie zum Spargel essen. Wir waren alle nicht satt, haben dafür aber sehr viel Geld bezahlt. Ist mittlerweile so ein Kommerz und eine abzocke, dass wir uns dort nicht mehr wohl fühlen und auch nicht mehr auf eine Brotzeit vorbeikommen. Es gibt deutlich bessere Alternativen! Hat mit Strauße sowieso nichts mehr zu tun.

The ostrich is so cool because it gives you a really nice feeling.😍 Plus you can take really good photos. The toilets are super clean and the service does a really good job❤️❤️

I'm already disappointed, prices have increased significantly, I could understand that but then reduce the portions quite a bit. I had a mix plate, 5 forks of sausage salad and lots of green lettuce leaves underneath to make it look like more. When I asked the waitress about the sparse sausage salad, the answer I got was: "There's more in the kitchen." We were happy to be guests for many years, but that is now over.

Waren heute dort Essen, satt sind wir nicht geworden: wir haben das Wiener Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat >25 Euro) und einen gemischten Salat (>11 Euro) gegessen. Dazu 2 Weißweinschorle getrunken. Die zwei kleine Schnitzelchen haben meinen Mann nicht gesättigt , der gemischte Salat war auch nicht üppig und wurde ohne Brot serviert. Für 45 Euro sollte man in einer Strauße satt werden. Kommen jetzt erstmal nicht mehr hierher.

Very good cuisine with regional products in a fantastic ambience! Excellently looked after by the attentive service, we had a wonderful evening with very good in-house game and excellent Rotburgunder. I would be happy to recommend a visit to this regional specialty à la the Strauss Economy.

When I met the Lorenz Strauße 20 years ago, I was totally in love with this place. We don't have a restaurant like this in Northern Germany. I always particularly liked the Christmas decorations. I hope that I can be a guest there again this year.🔝

A very beautiful bouquet that is special because of its design. The food is delicious. I had the pumpkin seed pancake with spinach and feta and my friend had the steak with fried potatoes and we were both more than satisfied. The wine is also very tasty and we will definitely come back.

We sat for about 10 minutes and were asked at least 4 times by four different waitresses whether we had already chosen something. Even though we still had to wait for one person, and that was what we were told every time. It was a bit annoying. Otherwise it was well attended. Overall, the food has become very expensive. 😒

I would be happy to write a 5-star review here. Location exceptionally beautiful and originally furnished. The boss is very nice, as is the staff. The food - in my case the schnitzel mix - really tasty and fresh. Thank you, we will come back to beautiful Breisgau in winter
