Friendly staff – sparkling wine welcome – all good! I didn't like the bathroom. There was no window and no ventilation. The shower was in the bathtub with a splash guard that was too short. The shower head couldn't be adjusted – it was at too steep an angle. As a result, the water didn't come from above, but from the wall, leading to a small flood in the bathroom on the first day. You have to operate the shower head with one hand while showering – I didn't find that comfortable :( ts

The room was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet offered a very wide selection.

The room she had was unfortunately quite run-down (see photos). The TV picture kept cutting out; no wonder, the cable was also quite old. The bathroom wasn't very comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, and the staff there are very accommodating. The service is great, and the public parking garage next door is convenient. The hotel can't be held responsible for the prices. It could definitely use a renovation.

Since we are generally quite satisfied with the hotel and the hotel portals always lead us back to the Leonardo when we are looking for a cheap place to stay, it has now become our regular hotel when we are in Karlsruhe.

Everything was great! The room was quite quiet, with only minor noises at night. There were always complimentary drinks like lemon water or coffee available at reception in the morning. Breakfast was varied and delicious. The rooms were spacious and had everything you could need. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. A fantastic hotel, I'd gladly come back!

A somewhat dated hotel, not particularly clean, rooms are rarely cleaned. An old elevator serves nine floors, with waiting and travel times of up to six minutes. Parking is difficult. Friendly staff. The bar isn't always open. Good breakfast.

Our stay at this hotel was unfortunately disappointing. Upon arrival, the receptionist neither greeted us nor even smiled at us – this came across as very unfriendly, especially since we were the only guests at reception at the time. We would like to commend the gentleman at reception, however, who was very kind and helpful. The room itself was clean, but the carpets in both the room and the hallway were very old and looked neglected. There were noticeable stains everywhere, which unfortunately detracted from the overall impression.

Everything was good, very friendly welcome. Breakfast was good and varied. However, the parking situation around the hotel is impossible; everyone just parks wherever and however they want, even where it's prohibited.

We really liked the hotel. Even though the rooms are a bit dated, they lacked nothing. The beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is definitely adequate.

Service is truly top-notch! The food is always fresh and delicious. You can simply come and enjoy from 6:30 to 10:00 in the morning! I'd rate the cleanliness of the rooms 4 out of 5. The room has everything you need, but I have to confirm that toothpaste was unfortunately missing... I was surprised by such a hotel and had to run to the DM. One more thing - there's no fan in the bathrooms, is that serious? It needs to be installed, I think. At the same time, there's an air conditioner available in the room. So, overall, it's more than okay, but it needs to be improved!

The building is showing its age. Rooms, windows broken, no air to breathe, room temperature questionable at 17°C. Bathroom has no ventilation. Only one elevator, which does what it wants, possibly due to a staff shortage. For that price?

The hotel is well located and in good condition overall, but the condition of the room was disappointing. Having broken hardware or a hatch in the ceiling that was open is a sign of a lack of maintenance and rigor. The staff is very friendly and courteous.

Very friendly service, always striving to compensate for technical deficiencies. The room was a bit chilly at the beginning of October, which the hotel justified by saying that the heating system was outdated and that it would take a few days to heat the entire hotel at the beginning of the heating season. We were then provided with a fan heater. At breakfast, one coffee machine initially broke down completely, then the second was taken off the air for the conference area. However, the staff here also made every effort to compensate by preparing hot drinks and bringing them to our tables. The hotel's age is evident, for example, in the elevators. Parking is available next door in the Luisenstraße parking garage. This is not part of the hotel, however. Just be aware that there is no direct access to the hotel, the parking garage doesn't have elevators, so suitcases have to be carried up the stairs, and it's very dark there (light is only provided by motion sensors).

I was there for a training course, without an overnight stay. The staff was very friendly, and the catering was very well organized. The food was also recommendable.

No elevator from the underground parking garage. The food and conference room were good. Addendum: I was on the 11th floor this time, and the elevator only goes up to the 10th, but it was OK. The sink is one of those designer things where the designer didn't think about usability. I don't have the biggest hands, but washing your hands with it is pretty difficult when you can barely get your hands under the faucet... The bed and pillows were comfortable, though, and there was a free bottle of water and coffee. The bathroom door has seen better days, though...

Outdated hotel with a bad maintenance. Mold and dirt in the bathroom, old towels, decayed furniture. Not worth the money. P.s. Be aware in late evening, saw a drugadicted nearby the entrance

Beautiful hotel, nice rooms, super friendly staff, fantastic breakfast buffet (the breakfast hours from 6:00 to 11:00 are also rare), very central, tram stop around the corner, about a 20-minute walk into town. Highly recommended.

Great hotel, the entrance outside is a bit messy due to the presence of smoking and noisy visitors, perhaps create a smoking and hanging area a little further from the entrance doors.

Rooms and facility need renovation - rooms weren‘t made and no Houskeeping alter 5pm available. Breakfast was ok, but many Buses in the morning. Outside and terrace not maintained - lift to the suites on 10th.11th four not working. Overall cleary overprized and not 4 star standard.

We were given two rooms on the 10th floor. But the elevator only goes to the 9th floor. This is terrible, especially for 6 people with a lot of luggage, including three children. Our rooms were almost opposite. The cleaning was not always good. It was always stuffy in one room, and too cool in the other. And nothing can be done about it. The location is boring, there are no interesting food outlets or grocery stores nearby, and there is nothing interesting in the hotel itself. Avoid such places.

A classic Leonardo Hotel right next to the Zoological Garden. Great location. The rooms are a bit dated but perfectly fine and clean. The service was a bit slow, but friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, the suite hadn't been renovated in a long time; it had unidentifiable stains on the walls, burn holes in the curtains, and the upholstered furniture was worn through. It gets very warm in the summer. The carpeting is also outdated and very dirty. There is only one dessert, and upon inquiry, it was explained that this was indeed intentional, and there is only one electrical outlet in the middle of the bed. The smell of cigarette smoke permeated the ventilation, and you can clearly hear the neighbors if they want to have some entertainment. The elevator only goes up to the 9th floor. Those with a lot of luggage or a stroller might be disappointed. The breakfast provided was okay (packaged sausage, etc., not really regional anymore, like what you'd get from the Metro). The cleanliness of the breakfast room was unsatisfactory, especially when the chairs still had bread crumbs and other things on them. But at 6:45 a.m., you know it hadn't been cleaned the day before. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately, that's not enough to warrant a return visit. It's supposed to be renovated soon, and we'll perhaps take another look after that.

It states that cleaning is done every three days, which is absolutely acceptable, but it wasn't done until after the fourth night. I didn't try to display the green sign sooner. Spacious room and comfortable bed. One light bulb in the bathroom was broken. The lamp had a non-functioning spotlight and little artificial light overall. Ample daylight thanks to the large (opening) window. The air conditioning fan was directed right at the bed. You had to climb over the tub to take a shower; it might not be suitable for everyone. Breakfast featured almost no sweets, such as cakes, croissants, pain au chocolat, or similar. Savoury options were varied. I didn't try the coffee; the selection of teas and herbal teas was very extensive. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ample parking, very convenient public transportation.

Superbly located city hotel with a great breakfast We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine, which was very nice. The hotel is very centrally located near the train station and zoo. There's also a train station opposite, so you're right in the city center.

Super friendly staff, a great breakfast buffet, and free ice cream in the lobby, which is very commendable on hot days 💪🏼 The location is very central. Parking is limited, but you can use the adjacent parking garage, which also has plenty of charging stations for electric cars.

The staff at this hotel are an absolute highlight. We have never experienced a warmer welcome than from Ms. R. in any hotel before. A welcome with a glass of sparkling wine, a free candy bar, and iced water for refreshment. The same goes for the bar. It's a pleasant place to linger; you're not just another guest. Everyone at breakfast was extremely attentive. The breakfast buffet has a large selection and is very tasty. The location is also perfect; you can walk to the Ettlinger Tor in just a few minutes. The train station isn't far away either. The air-conditioned rooms are clean and quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We'd come back anytime; it exceeded our expectations. The coffee in the room and at the reception area is a great idea. Very friendly staff. Everything was perfect. It was nice that you could have a nightcap outside in the evening.

It was hot, the room was pleasantly cool, and drinks were gratefully welcomed and accepted at the entrance. The view was fantastic.

A Night in a Chamber of Horrors – Never Again! Where do I begin? This hotel is an absolute disaster and definitely doesn't deserve any stars. As soon as I entered the room, I was hit by a musty smell that wouldn't dissipate even after airing it out. It was obvious that the place hadn't been properly cleaned or maintained in ages. And as if that weren't enough, the elevator to the upper floors has been out of service for over a year! So unless you're staying in the first row, you're in for a physical challenge. The shower was an absolute horror. There wasn't a proper stream coming out of the showerhead, but rather a sad trickle, barely enough to wash your hair. Not to mention that the water was leaking out of every crack in the shower stall, flooding half the bathroom. Relaxation was out of the question; it was more like an unwanted cleaning stint. As if that wasn't bad enough, neither the air conditioning nor the refrigerator worked. In the current temperatures, the room was a sauna, and cold drinks were out of the question. Sleep? None! I sweated all night and wondered if I wouldn't have slept better in the car. And then breakfast! I had hoped to at least find something edible here, but the selection was a tragedy. Dried, shriveled fruits and vegetables, far past their best, laughed at me. It looked like they had just repurposed yesterday's leftovers. At least I didn't have to pay for breakfast after I pointed it out at checkout. All in all, my stay at this hotel was a nightmare. It's an imposition on any guest and doesn't even deserve a star. Save your money and book somewhere else—there are certainly better options; even a park bench would be more comfortable!

Location is good and staff is cooperative but it is not like a 4 star hotel, we booked 24 m2 room but it was a small room, not very clean , bathtub had a broken tile. Carpet was dirty . Bathroom was missing the toiletries which is 4 star usually offers. In short it was like an ordinary 3 star hotel.

City itself isnt very pretty besides the cool palace/museum area. The hotel itself is lovely, great service, a nice bath, good beds, air conditioning (though a bit soft/slow) and a decent breakfast. For the price its a good hotel! Small downside is how wet the floor gets when showering due to the water simply escaping onto the floor despite the (movable) glass.

Centrally located, a perfect starting point for activities in all directions. The room on the 9th floor offered a beautiful view of the city. The rooms are perfectly equipped in terms of size and amenities for a short stay. Everything was fine here; there was no reason for any complaints. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and check-in and check-out were completed within minutes. The breakfast buffet is lavishly stocked; everything is fresh and delicious. There's a plentiful selection of both healthy and unhealthy options, hearty, savory, sweet, and greens—there's something for everyone here. If you don't find anything here, it's your own fault... We were in Karlsruhe for a concert, so we were only there for 3 days in total, and we would like to stay here again on future visits to the city. Thank you very much and best regards to Karlsruhe

The hotel may not look like much from the outside, but inside it is beautiful and the rooms are clean and fresh. It is strange that you could not use the hotel's own parking lot. Opposite the hotel is a city park with a zoo that is worth a visit.

I stayed at the Leonardo Hotel in Karlsruhe again for a few days while visiting an old college friend with some friends. The hotel's location is excellent (close to the city center and the highway). The rooms are quiet and in good condition, and the staff are consistently very courteous and helpful. The breakfast is also wonderful. Only the parking situation is a bit tricky, as the spaces in front of the hotel were almost always full. However, there is a municipal underground parking garage right next to the hotel, although unfortunately, it is not part of the hotel itself. Overall, the daily rate of €15 is still reasonable. I will probably choose this hotel again on my next stay in Karlsruhe.

I stayed at the Leonardo Hotel for 2 consecutive weeks and had a very pleasant stay. The breakfast had a wide variety of great food each morning. The bartender Christian was phenomenal and entertained my group on several evenings. The hotel had good amenities and was located near the train station and tram line. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Karlsruhe.

The pillows are the fluffiest I’ve ever felt. Bartender Christian is a beaut. Great location, super great staff, super welcoming environment. Tram station is super close, so getting around the city from the hotel is not an issue. Continental breakfast was *french kiss* amazing.

We stayed at the hotel for one night, and the rooms weren't ready. The parking was a disaster. We couldn't park at the hotel because it was full. The front desk told us to park in the underground garage, but they had no idea where we would get out of the parking lot. We booked a room on the 10th floor, but the elevator only went up to the 9th floor, and we had to carry our luggage up the last floor. I really can't recommend this hotel.

I highly recommend the Leonardo Karlsruhe. The location is fantastic, and the service, from breakfast to nightcaps, is friendly and impeccable. Little touches like the candy bar and free refreshments further enhance the feel-good atmosphere. We'd be happy to come back.

Phew, where do I begin? Minimal renovations: door lock, sink, and reception. The rest is ancient. Carpets everywhere are hard to clean, old tiles and furniture, etc. The bedding is still from winter. The elevators are too narrow. The rooms are far too warm.

Nice view of the city if you have a room on one of the upper floors. Unfortunately, the breakfast was disappointing. Gluten-free bread is available only upon request, and it's not even served in a fancy way. A good, torn-open bag of gluten-free bread with a few slices is placed on the table. Why they can't serve gluten-free rolls remains a mystery to me. It can't be the cost, because there are plenty of croissants and rolls for "normal" people.

The hotel is excellently located for families: a nice public Spielplatz is less than 5 minutes away and the beautiful Karlsruhe Zoo is just over 10 minutes away, as well as several restaurants and places to eat ice cream. Upon check-in we received a complimentary refreshing drink. For our little boy a crib with a teddy bear, very nice detail. The only thing that was a little not so comfortable were the pillows and the bathrooms have not yet been renovated compared to the rest of the hotel, which is very modern, but everything is very beautiful and great!

Very pleasant stay for one night during a course in Karlsruhe. I wanted a quiet room, and it was very quiet, on the 2nd floor, facing the zoo. The noises from the street were muffled, no loud passers-by, hardly any noise in the hotel itself from the hallway or from neighbors. Extremely clean. Very friendly and uncomplicated reception. Extremely diverse selection for breakfast, the breakfast room is spacious and has a view of the countryside. I'd love to come back.

A bit outdated (carpet and pictures...), but affordable price, room very clean and staff extremely friendly and helpful.

First of all, the customer service at reception was impeccable. The staff members I interacted with were friendly, open and super helpful. The people in the restaurant were also lovely and the atmosphere downstairs was good. They did little extra bits around the reception area like a free sweets bar, which I found super cute. I cannot fault them at all for this part of the stay. Unfortunately, housekeeping was a disaster. Upon entering the room I was immediately assaulted by the smell - a bit like old carpet/curtains meets febreeze with no fresh air in months. I thought about complaining but I knew that the hotel was fully booked and it was late. I was thankfully able to open the window and left to find some late dinner. When I returned the smell was more palatable but I did keep the window open for the entire stay (3 days). Nobody entered my room during my stay, not to make the bed or replace towels, which I find kind of funny considering they had a note about hanging any towels you don't want replaced for environmental reasons. Plenty of areas were dusty around the main room, and the amount of dirt on the hairdryer was a disgrace. There were also some unpleasant stains on the bathroom ceiling and on the carpet. All in all, it's an old hotel that desperately needs room updates and better cleaners but has a really lovely reception and breakfast crew. The breakfast buffet, too, was good and plentiful.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was also high quality and varied. However, there were some deficiencies: When you open the window, there is a strong draft in the entire room, which is very unpleasant. The room furnishings are clearly outdated and did not meet my expectations. Unfortunately, the daily room service did not work reliably. In addition, there were problems with payment due to internal processes in the hotel, which put an additional strain on the stay.

We stayed there for 2 nights with breakfast. The room was big and nice. It’s showing its age a little bit but that’s not a deal breaker. It’s nice that it’s in a walking distance to center. There are parking spaces in front of the hotel and also there is a closed parking place next to the hotel but that doesn’t belong to the hotel so charges might change. We rather had the car in front of the hotel which is also free. Take care though since there isn’t many spaces to accommodate all guests. The only issue I had was that I was given a room for the people with disabilities. The toilet was a bit high , making an awkward use. The breakfast was good and sufficiently diverse. Hotel also has gym but I didn’t use it. Overall great value/ price.

Update: Everything was perfect during my next stay. I booked through the app and redeemed my existing points. The hotel has very good amenities and is adequate for my budget. I appreciate the nice touches, such as free drinks, ice lollies, and candy in the lobby. The staff are also very friendly. It's a good location near the zoo and the bus stop. My three-day stay was perfect. I would definitely stay again.

It's a shame I did not catch all their names. But everyone at the reception during my stay was helpful, polite and friendly. Things work at his hotel, so there is no problem whatsoever with the stay. Location is great too, accessible and yet quiet. The morning coffee in the reception and the candy bar are nice touches. Appreciate those too.

We stayed in Karlsruhe for 4 nights for the Grenke Chess Open and felt very comfortable in this hotel. The location was perfect as the tournament was taking place in the hall opposite. But also very well located for other purposes, as the S-Bahn station is within walking distance. The building is a bit dated, but does the job. The staff was very friendly. The safe in our room was broken, but otherwise it had everything you needed.

When we checked in on Sunday afternoon, Mr. B.T. was at the reception. He is a very open, friendly, and empathetic person. In our first room (1006), the towel rack was falling off the wall, so he quickly moved us to room 401. Everything was perfect there. We slept wonderfully, better than in some 4-star hotels in Rust, for example. His appreciation made us feel quite comfortable and we really enjoyed the evening after the Christmas Garden at the zoo. The restaurant and hotel industry needs people like him!!! We wish him all the best for his studies and: KOBLENZ is waiting for you!

We were guests at the obscene trade fair in Karlsruhe, and the hotel is practically right across the street, so it's perfect. Super friendly staff, very clean, everything was great. We'd love to come back.

Dear Sir or Madam, I booked an overnight stay (March 16, 2025 - March 17, 2025) with you via booking.com. I arrived at Ettlinger Str. 23 in Karlsruhe today around 5:15 PM, full of anticipation. Despite the hotel's 4-star rating, the receptionist (approximately 5'7" tall, blonde shoulder-length hair, slim, blue eyes, German or Eastern European origin) behaved inappropriately. She gave me a rather arrogant impression and was not service-oriented. When I was finally assigned room 202, I immediately went to the room in question. Upon entering, I noticed that the room did not meet the usual standards of the Leonardo Royal Hotel and also noticed various defects, such as a clogged drainpipe and two insects. I therefore contacted reception via the room phone. The previously described unfriendly receptionist refused to help me and asked me to pack my things and go back to reception. I immediately followed this instruction and presented her with my disability card at the reception. Since I had an appointment in the city center, I left the hotel with several pieces of luggage and returned to the previously described unfriendly receptionist around 8:15 PM. This time, the unfriendly receptionist was standing in front of the hotel with a shady male person (presumably of the same ethnicity), whom I perceived as "reinforcement" and most likely not an employee of your hotel, smoking. This shady person then also sat behind the reception desk! Despite my severe disability, the unfriendly receptionist wanted me to leave the hotel and wanted to refund the booking price. I cannot understand why she made me this offer. In addition, she behaved very aggressively and threateningly! I therefore expect this employee to be terminated without notice and that the shady receptionist will be examined via your surveillance footage! Thank you very much

Already a recommendation, but apparently there were coordination difficulties between booking.com and the hotel. Booked a double room. Received 2 single beds, only got the option of another room after repeated requests. But everything worked out in the end, a bit tough service but in the end we were completely satisfied...

Overall, we had a nice stay in a clean, tidy hotel, but it was a bit old. The carpet is torn in some places and you have to e.g. climb into a bathtub to shower. This hasn't been a problem for us, but I think older guests might have difficulty with it. But the bed was very comfortable and there were enough pillows. Unfortunately, a lamp in the bathroom was broken, which didn't make putting on make-up any easier. I also missed a makeup mirror. I thought the candy bar in the lobby was nice! At check-in, a wonderful and nice employee was responsible for us - very courteous and interested, we immediately felt arrived and valued. The glass of champagne or beer at the reception is also a nice gesture from the hotel. We can't say anything about breakfast because we booked without it. The location of the hotel was perfect for us, we could reach the train station and the city center in just a few minutes and, as a highlight, the zoo was right across the street! All in all it was a nice stay in a decent hotel, the price-performance ratio is really very good. We would come back!

The room is from the 80s, but it's clean. The breakfast is very good and plentiful. The service was friendly, but unfortunately a bit overwhelmed. A rebooking from our company, which had been confirmed in advance by the hotel, wasn't in the computer. So we had to wait 1.5 hours for the room.

We loved this hotel from arrival to departure. It was only one night, but the service was excellent. We upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost for our honeymoon. They even offered us a welcome drink. Thank you to the amazing staff (on every shift).

As a regional advisory board for the Karlsruhe (Mittelbaden) region, I organize our IVD professional meetings (Real Estate Association of Germany) to enable brokers and property managers to receive further training and network. The Leonardo Hotel received a 5 star rating from me 5 years ago. After another 5 years I would like to repeat this. We continue to be very satisfied with the rooms, service and food. We can recommend the Hotel Leonardo with a clear conscience.

Ohhh, the hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the zoo, but it lacks a lot. Problem with elevators, they take too much time. They accommodated us in rooms on the 11th floor, and the elevator goes to the 9th floor, so we then had to carry heavy suitcases two more floors on our hands. There was also a problem with the heating on the entire floor. they tried to fix it, but it didn't work specifically in my room. They also did not show any interest in whether the heating problem was solved. No one came to check, to ask. So, the only thing left for me was the beautiful view from the cold room and the pain in my back from carrying heavy luggage up the stairs, and I'm not young for that extreme sport.

After having stayed at the Leonardo hotel in Munich (which is quite modern) we decided to stay at their Karlsruhe hotel on our way back from holiday. Let me first start by saying that the staff was super friendly and helped us resolve an issue with our room quickly. The service at the restaurant was also good. The free candy, coffee and tea in the lounge were nice and we appreciated the welcome drinks. This review is mainly about the state of the hotel and cleanliness of the rooms. While the entrance looks modern it is a really old and dated hotel. The rooms feel very tired and to be honest not very clean. One of the elevators was out of order and the other two were apparently built in 1964. Our original room had sewer flies (Psychodidae) everywhere, which indicates an issue with the sewer. Not a room I would want to sleep in. We were moved to a nicer room which didn't have a problem, but it's quite worrying that no one in housekeeping noticed this. The beds in the new room were good though and the shower was fine after I got the water to drain properly. The toilet was dirty so I cleaned the seat before we could use it. If I were in charge of this hotel I would find new housekeeping staff, gut the place and rebuild the rooms. I do find it difficult to have to write this as the staff was doing their best and I realize it must suck to have to work in an environment that is this old / worn. So this review is mainly directed at the management of the Leonardo hotel chain: please refurbish this hotel!
