Kulmberghaus in Unterwellenborn

The beer garden is a nice excursion destination near Rudolstadt. It's worth hiking there. However, you can also reach this place at any time by car or bicycle. The beer garden also sells delicious food at reasonable prices.

A cult visit to the old homeland: everything was just right. The wonderful view from the beer garden and the super friendly and helpful service. We'll be back. (We can't judge the food, we just drank something.)

Today we wanted to visit the beer garden in the nicest weather, which according to the internet should be open. But unfortunately no one was there. It's not the first time it's simply closed. If the service continues like this, soon no one will come here anymore. How beautiful it used to be here

The Kulmberghaus is worth a trip! You won't find a better view of the region. And then you can enjoy it in a pleasant atmosphere with good food. The rooms are modern yet cozy. The offer is rounded off with a great roof terrace. And the little ones are also taken care of - there is a great outdoor playground. All around a highlight.

We celebrated our wedding here and felt 100% comfortable. From the first conversation to this great day, Ms. Vater and her team gave us great advice and support. The service and food were first class, not forgetting the room with the breathtaking view! Ms. Vater and her team make the Kulmberghaus what it is! We would be happy to come back at any time! Thank you for everything!

Food: Portion size too small for the price and not warm. Service friendly but overwhelmed for the number of guests

Nice location; but the visit to the beer garden was rather disappointing. Unfortunately, the iced coffee had nothing to do with an iced coffee. However, the cake was very tasty. The staff seemed listless and uninterested. Maybe it was also due to the off-season?

Impressive panoramic views with an ultra-modern hotel, beautiful beer garden, clean sanitary facilities and sufficient parking spaces - highly recommended

So the facilities are great, the location is great (see pictures), the food is very attractive - but the taste is very bland, tip: you could put salt and pepper shakers or spices on the table for the guests! Price-performance ratio is therefore only satisfactory, the menu is very good - I think it's very clear, so the dishes should taste first-class given the prices, which was missing for me. Outdoor area, furnishings very modern and stylish, staff friendly and good, facility with beer garden and parking spaces for staff and guests very well designed/planned, I know it from my childhood and have to say, building with outdoor area INCREDIBLY GREAT, GREAT PROJECT! Also suitable for hikers and cyclists, but not really suitable for children. Unfortunately there is no children's menu offered at lunchtime in the restaurant, especially in the hiking/holiday area, maybe that can be changed!? Great playground, nice shade and we'll try the beer garden another time!!! We'll be back!

We had dinner in the restaurant today. The food itself was delicious...Two points of criticism: the food was served to us, but the waitress didn't even come to ask if everything was okay (we would have liked something more to drink)....there was almost nothing going on and the waitresses stood behind the counter the whole time, it's a shame....plus we were both called by them without being asked....we don't know anything like that from other restaurants...we would have expected more for the money

We celebrated our gold wedding anniversary on July 19, 2024 in and “on” the Kulmberghaus roof terrace. The advice on planning the celebration from the event manager was friendly and professional, the basis for a successful day. The small team is extremely friendly, our wishes were recognized before they were expressed. What the kitchen brought to the buffet was delicious. The views from the restaurant, the room balconies and the roof terrace are magnificent. The hotel room facilities are at the highest level. The Kulmberghaus as a hotel with a restaurant, beer garden and forest children's playground, as well as a viewing tower right next to it, is a unique place and an asset for the region. PS: It is unclear why there is a beer garden in the platform here. Many greetings from the Schmidt family from Weimar and in the name of everyone who celebrated with us.

A very nice viewpoint. Nice view of Saalfeld. We actually wanted to have lunch there, but there is only one self-service fast food restaurant here, the selection is rather narrow and expensive. Not recommended just for a nice meal. The pictures from the other posts are misleading because they are pictures of the hotel restaurant.

Today we had a great birthday party in the beer garden of the Kulmberghaus. From the service and the colleague at the grill to the delicious steak and salmon, homemade tiramisu and fine drinks... the evening was a success and it couldn't have been better. The children were even allowed to watch a film on the TV outside. We would like to thank you for the successful celebration, where nothing was missing, and we look forward to coming back. We said yes on June 1st, 2024 on the Kulm and then spent the day and evening with our 70 guests on the roof terrace and in the restaurant and it was just amazing. ❤️ A huge thank you goes especially to dear Doreen, she stood by our side the whole time with advice and support and her wonderful manner, you are the heart of the house and without you it would only have been half as nice! Thanks for that😊 Another big compliment and a huge thank you also goes to the great boys and girls who served and cooked for us, everyone is super friendly and absolutely great at their job! 👌🏻 The food was really great, there was absolutely nothing to complain about and it tasted fantastic! We had an absolute dream wedding with you and would do it the same way again! We thank you all for the wonderful impressions, the unique moments and this unforgettable day for us! We were just here. The restaurant is closed and the beer garden is closed. There is no information about this on the homepage. A pity

We stayed in room 100 for 3 days, a very nice and large room with a wonderful view and terraces. The materials are high quality and the ambience is very tasteful. The entire hotel complex is beautiful, even if it's not quite finished yet because the hotel only opened a good six months ago. The staff is very friendly, helpful and warm. The food is good and beautifully presented. However, the selection is a bit tight for 3 dinners. Unfortunately there is no real selection of wines. We would have liked a selection. There is a charging station for electric car drivers. The only real negative point, which has a negative impact on the entire stay: The "comfort ventilation" of the room or hotel is set so strongly that it can be heard constantly and there is a constant draft in the room.

The highest point in Saalfeld and it offers a great view of the city and a snack bar also provides for your physical well-being. There is also a new hotel.

Yesterday we were guests in the beer garden. The location and the view are great, and the drinks and food selection is great. Unfortunately, the employees in the kiosk seemed completely overwhelmed and getting a beer took forever. Not to mention hygiene. Then you collect the money, wipe away the foamy beer with the already visibly dirty cloth and immediately afterwards, WITHOUT washing your hands in between, you reach into the pack of fries to throw them into the deep fryer. Tables are not wiped down in between, which is something that should be done occasionally even in a beer garden without service. It's a shame, the location is great, but with such hygienic conditions we won't be coming back.

I rate the beer garden here. Apparently there are currently no extra Maps entries for the hotel or restaurant. The beer garden is beautifully located, there are shady places to linger with a very nice view. Unfortunately the service still has room for improvement. Food will be available for ordering from around 1 p.m. When I ordered shortly after 1 p.m., I didn't get my food until 2:10 p.m. I think a smaller menu and an earlier start to mealtime could help reduce waiting times for all guests. The food was good but the prices for the food are a bit excessive: Jägerschnitzel (breaded hunting sausage) with noodles for €18 is a bit high. I think with a few changes the beer garden can establish itself as a popular hiking and excursion destination.

We took a look at the “new”/renovated Kulmberghaus. We didn't stay overnight and didn't eat either. The Kulmberghaus was already a destination in the GDR. The prices are steep, they exceed the beer garden prices in Halle/Saale, a big city.

This was our second time there. The restaurant is beautifully designed. We also found the menu good and the prices ok. Unfortunately we had to wait far too long, even though there weren't too many people there were. The food was ok for us, but it could be a little better 🙂 The friendly service picked us up again. We will be back.

We made a short visit, so we think it's ideal for the whole family to meet there.

We visited the restaurant yesterday and had a wonderful evening - kudos to the staff! From the floor-to-ceiling windows you can enjoy a fantastic view over Saalfeld and the Thuringian Forest. The ambience was great and the service left nothing to be desired. It didn't matter that the food itself was just OK (admittedly we are very spoiled 😉). Highlight: Since we were on foot and there is a lot of wildlife outside at night, we were even offered a short ride down the mountain. Wow! We have never experienced such world-class service. Thank you very much again!

A gem in Thuringia's Saale Valley, fantastic views, beautiful rooms, friendly staff and delicious food…absolute recommendation!

Was there today, unfortunately only open from 5 p.m., but super great staff, let us in and served great coffee and cake. Great afternoon with sunshine and, as I said, great service.

We visited the restaurant with seven people. A very tasteful and modern ambience invites guests to visit. The exposed location and the really high-quality furnishings of the restaurant leave nothing to be desired. The service is extremely friendly and deserves praise in every respect. Unfortunately the food didn't meet our expectations.

Stayed here with my wife for a 2-night short vacation. A super top hotel that only reopened in November 2023 after a mega renovation. Rooms modernly furnished, the food in the restaurant was completely fine. Only the prices for rooms and restaurants are upscale, but you don't treat yourself to anything else... Beautiful area with lots of forest, Saalfeld nearby. I can ABSOLUTELY recommend!!!

The hotel, the view, the rooms and the staff are just great, perfect, gigantic and awesome. Definitely worth it. Even small requests for breakfast can be made to the kitchen. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there at least once more. The hotel also offers great relaxation because it is in a quiet location and the balcony of the room is protected from the wind. The breakfast is small but sufficient. We have nothing to complain about.

We booked the Kulmberghaus for a family reunion. We had 3 rooms, all of them were simply fantastic. Every extra wish was fulfilled. Very nice and courteous staff, fantastic rooms with an incredibly great view. The breakfast left nothing to be desired. Our meal with 16 people couldn't be topped either. Delicious. A very special place for wonderful moments...we would love to come back

Beautiful, new, modern and tastefully decorated restaurant. Food, I had a rib-eye steak with fried potatoes, it tasted very good. Highly priced. Recommended. In terms of landscape, the Kulm is one of the most beautiful in the surrounding area. For those who don't know: walk from the Kulm to the Preilipper Kuppe, about 1/2 hour, with a great view there too.

Seldom eaten so badly. Salt and pepper as spices probably haven't arrived there yet. First, get the wrong food. You could hardly chew the pork loin, the salmon was totally dry and not to mention the taste. We had really promised us more, especially at these prices!!! Nice view and that's it! Never again !

A beautiful place to enjoy the view far over the countryside and the Thuringian Forest. In the sunshine and the glittering snow - a dream. Climbing the tower is a must! This place invites you to take a walk. I wasn't in the Kulmberghaus.

The view and the rooms with balconies are unbeatable, and the restaurant is also chic and good. Nevertheless, a star deduction for the breakfast: at 9 the already sparse breakfast was cleared away, bad luck, nothing was added.

A very modern facility, a wonderful view from the dining room through large panoramic windows, very nice staff and food and drinks are also okay.

Wir waren als Familie am 1. Feiertag zum Mittagessen da. Wir fühlten uns herzlich willkommen. Das Essen war sehr lecker, das Personal sehr freundlich und eine wunderbare Aussicht . Wir kommen gerne wieder:)

Nach einer matschig-feuchten Wanderung wollten meine Freundin und ich an einem Samstagabend zur besten Abendessenszeit gerne im Kulmberghaus essen, ohne reserviert zu haben. Nicht gerade salonfein versuchten wir unser Glück. Das Lokal war gut besucht und eigentlich ausgelastet. Dennoch wurden wir sehr freundlich vom Personal empfangen und uns noch ein Tisch zurecht gemacht. Sehr liebevoll betreut und mit leckerem Essen versorgt, konnten wir den tollen Blick über Saalfeld genießen. Das Personal ist wirklich große Spitze!!! Ich kann den Besuch dort nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Waren am Wochenende zu viert zum 1. Mal hier oben essen. 1. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön und hochwertig gestaltet 2. Trotz fast leeren Restaurant (außer uns nur noch 3 kleine tische) ewig gewartet bis alleine schon Getränke abgefragt, geschweige denn serviert worden... 3. Wir haben große Flaschen Wasser aus der karte bestellt (Bad Brambacher) und bekommen 2 Karaffen 0.75 einfaches Leitungswasser zu je 6€!!! Geht gar nicht!! 4. Vorspeisen waren gut, Hautessen sehr Verbesserungswürdig 4. Auf Reklamation wurde mit Ersatz, aber pampigen Kommentar der Bedienung reagiert ...bin immer noch der Meinung die Gans war ne Ente... Unser Fazit....wenn man Besuch von außerhalb hat wegen Ambiente und Ausblick dann Ja....aber wir werden leider keine Stammgäste. Dafür stimmen preis Leistung einfach nicht.

Super schönes neues Hotel, mit sehr guter Küche. Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Hotel liegt auf dem Berg mit toller Aussicht vom Balkon und Restaurant. Da wir im November vor Ort waren, hatte der Kiosk mit großen Spielplatz nicht mehr geöffnet, was für November ja auch verständlich ist.

I had the pleasure of dining at Kulmberghaus Restaurant recently, and it was nothing short of a memorable experience. The restaurant’s stunning location, nestled amidst the picturesque mountains, created the perfect view for a delightful meal.

Ein sehr tolles Restaurant, super Ambiente, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Jedoch stimmt das Preis Leistungsverhältnis nicht. Es schmeckt sehr gut, doch die Portionen sind sehr klein für diesen Preis.

Es ist wirklich sehr sehr schön geworden. Service sehr nett und zuvorkommend, die Aussicht eine absolute Bombe. Ich hatte die Ochsenbäckchen, 200% zu empfehlen.

Neues Restaurant und Hotel, gehobene Atmosphäre und Gastronomie. Excellenter Service. 100% Empfehlung.

Waren seit 4 Jahren wieder mal da essen. Das Restaurant ist mega schön geworden und der Ausblick einfach traumhaft. Das Essen war sehr gut und preislich angemessen. Service war über aus nett und freundlich. Kann es nur jedem empfehlen. Das einzige was nicht ganz so geklappt hat war die online Reservierung. Also am besten telefonisch reservieren. Was zu empfehlen ist.

Sehr leckeres Essen, egal ob urig thüringisch oder dekadenter, ob Sonntagsbuffet oder Karte - gepaart mit dem tollen Ambiente und dem Ausblick auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert!

Wollten uns das neue Restaurant anschauen und dann eventuell einen Termin zum Essen ausmachen aber kamm anders wurden vom Personal hinaus gebeten. Ein Besuch kommt für uns nie mehr in Frage. Also der Eindruck grottenschlecht Meine Erfahrungen werde ich hinreichend in meinen Bekanntenkreis darstellen.

Am Kulmberghotel sind zur Zeit größere Baumaßnahmen. War an den Holzbaracken am Hotel. Die Verkäuferin war mit ihren Gedanken sonstwo nur nicht an der Arbeit. Das Flair vor den Verkaufsbaracken ist Top. Weite Sicht über Saalfeld, Schwarzatal und Rudolstadt.

Ein Highlight in Rudolstadt-Saalfeld und Umgebung - sehr gelungene Renovierung mit top Lage hoch über der Saale. Definitiv einen Besuch wert - der Abenteuerspielplatz bietet auch für Kinder Abwechslung.
