Unfortunately, it didn't convince us at all. We sat in the front area. This one gives more of the impression of a bistro. Plus it was cold. For a place in this price range, I don't expect paper napkins and placemats. There was only a small Christmas card. (with dishes from the normal evening menu, although more expensive) The dishes were okay but completely overpriced and not enough. My food was lukewarm. For a main course that cost over 40 euros, I think that's a shame. If you want to focus on high-quality cuisine, then a lot still needs to be changed. Addendum to the answer to the original rating, which could no longer be changed: If you are asked for a review, you should handle it confidently even if you didn't get 5 stars. The bad reviews have been increasing lately, as you can see here. Maybe you should then accept criticism and not blame the customers who, in your opinion, have no idea about good cuisine.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed today. For the very high price I expect more. If a main course costs over €40, then I expect to be full and not just two small blobs of red cabbage and sweet potatoes alongside two pieces of meat. The taste was really good, but it wasn't enough. If some of the dishes on the Christmas menu are even more expensive than on the regular menu, then that has a slight aftertaste. (Screenshot: Filled potato and pumpkin rösti 26.50 / 27.90 or chestnut and celery soup 12.50 / 18.50). It's a real shame because I remembered this restaurant better and was really looking forward to the evening. We certainly won't be coming back again.

We spent our Christmas dinner this year on the second holiday at lunchtime in the small castle. The reservation was made in advance by telephone and we were given a Christmas menu with a choice of starters, main courses and desserts. Ambience & Service: The reception was friendly, the atmosphere was stylish and festively decorated. What is particularly positive is that they thought of a high chair and coloring pages for our toddler. The start of our lunch was therefore very pleasant. Ordering drinks went quickly and everyone was able to toast in a relaxed manner. Food: We decided on appetizers and a dessert to share, while our daughter had pasta with tomato sauce (cooked without salt). At first everything went smoothly here. A group member had already explicitly asked about gluten-free options when making a telephone reservation, which was confirmed by the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was no gluten-free selection on the local menu and a corresponding dish had to be adapted. This caused uncertainty and could have easily been avoided with a little better preparation. The starters came quickly and tasted very good. However, for the main courses we had to wait about 60 minutes, without any response or apology from the service staff. Meanwhile, other guests who arrived later were served more quickly. The main course itself was unfortunately disappointing: the duck was dry and tough, the potato dumpling was more reminiscent of coarse, round-shaped mashed potatoes, and the sauce in combination with the red cabbage caused unpleasant heartburn. For the price of just under €40 per dish, we definitely expected a higher quality. This opinion was also shared by others in our group. The pasta was finally served to our daughter, but with the note that the plate was hot - information that would probably leave a 2-year-old toddler indifferent. We had to make room for ourselves so that the little one didn't want to keep touching the hot plate. When it came to dessert, they didn't take into account that we wanted to share it, and we had to request a special spoon anyway. Towards the end of the meal, the surprise message came that the restaurant would be closing in 15 minutes, even though drink orders had been taken shortly before. This left us feeling rushed. Conclusion: The small castle is without question a visually appealing restaurant with high standards, which unfortunately it did not live up to on this special day. While the ambience and first impressions were very positive, the kitchen performance and service at important moments left something to be desired. The lack of clarity regarding the gluten-free options and the long waiting times particularly spoiled the experience. For the price we paid, we would have expected a more sophisticated experience. Overall, a mixed impression remains. It's a shame, because the potential is definitely there.

Nice restaurant in the old town

There was a Christmas menu. The duck was too dry for some people. I had a vegetarian dish that also had to be gluten-free, and it tasted very good. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was very friendly. However, we would have been happy if we had been told that the restaurant closes at 3 p.m. Then we wouldn't have ordered another round of drinks at 2:45 p.m.

The food was again excellent - the service was good, the lady was on the line during the final rush to pay - the restaurant was busy, so it was very loud!

The 5-course menu for €95 is worth its price in every respect: A harmonious composition of fish, seafood, meat, vegetables and dessert variations across the individual courses surprises and pampers every connoisseur's palate with a variety of different textures and flavor notes. Fireworks for all the senses!

The lunch menu is very good and recommended. The taste is also very good! A small “break in style” is the wrapped biscuit with the espresso. Otherwise super great!

Excellent cuisine, attentive and young service in a very welcoming environment.

While looking for lunch, I came across the “Little Castle”. Right near the greatest delicatessen in Oldenburg, I thought I had to go in there. And wow - I wasn't disappointed. Stylish and modern atmosphere, very good food at a more than fair price. I also liked that non-alcoholic aperitifs and the lunch menu offered vegetarian dishes, fish and meat. I was impressed by the service, which I have only very, very rarely experienced with such professionalism. I've been to much more expensive, some of them "starred" restaurants, which can learn a lot from this. Even though it was a bit crooked, someone was always keeping an eye on the tables and guests, you were greeted in a friendly manner, treated and asked questions; you really feel like a guest here. I definitely have to try it in the evening.

It was all very tasty. The difference lies in the details and the taste.

Yesterday we were guests with 4 people. The food was really great. No matter whether pasta, steak, schnitzel or fish. Everything tasted excellent. The starters were also great. The tomato jam was an absolute highlight. The service was also great and very attentive.

A very positive restaurant experience in the north for us spoiled connoisseurs of French and Alpine cuisine. Delicious, original dishes on a clear menu, but less is actually more here. Very charming ambience and perfect, friendly service made for a very nice, cozy evening. Gladly again!

Small but nice, small castle with lots of space. The restaurant consists of two buildings. Not connected, but next to each other. Both are set up the same. The main course can be upgraded to include soup/salad and dessert for an additional charge. Our food was good and tasted good.

Very cute place. My chosen meal was very good. However, the potato pancakes in the main course didn't taste like anything. There was a complete lack of salt. Otherwise the dish was very tasty, although there was a bit too little fish and unfortunately the fish was without salt, pepper and lemon, I know otherwise. For the starter, the amount of avocado was too much and the goat cheese wasn't enough on the plate. So the goat cheese was completely lost in terms of taste. The gamba was excellent. The crème brulée was also great. I didn't try the sorbet because my neighbor at the table ate it because she didn't like the crème brulée. All in all, it was a successful evening, even if it was very, very expensive. Oh… and the wine! Unfortunately, it didn't really taste great for such an upscale atmosphere. And I wasn't alone with this opinion that evening! This should be improved!

The food was okay, the wine was completely overpriced, and I also find it annoying to be constantly asked for a "review". For us it was the last visit to your establishment.

There were three of us and we were welcomed into a cozy atmosphere. The menu has something for everyone. I decided on a vegan Rösti. As a starter we had a Bort variation. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Good value for money. The filling of the Rösti was “hard on the salt” but the complaints here are at a high level. The service was ok. Two people took turns serving us. I was there for the first time. Some of the explanation was missing for me. Drinks menu does not include the complete offer. When asked, the response was irritated. No thanks for the already generous tip. Sometimes the circumstances make it so, so I would like to come back again!

Although we come from Hanover, we stop by the small castle every time on the way to East Frisia. Not only is it a very nice location, the food is of top quality and always on point. The service is very attentive and really friendly. It's a shame that the little castle isn't available everywhere - or maybe not right now, otherwise it wouldn't be so unique anymore.

The service was very good. All of our wishes were immediately fulfilled, from the request for a seat, a little more lemon fizz in the Alster, additional mashed potatoes with the meal, and none of this appeared on the bill! That's what I call excellent service, and that's for lunch!! I had a similar experience with my husband in the “little castle” on our first wedding anniversary! Highly recommended!! My wolffish fillet was again a visual highlight and also tasted very good. The portion size was also very good! 5 stars from me! I would love to come back!! Christine

Very tasty starter and main course. Unfortunately, the dessert didn't top the menu. It was difficult to eat and didn't taste great. I expected more. Overall, I found the price-performance ratio to be a bit excessive. Unfortunately, the acoustics in the rooms are not that good. All the tables were occupied and when all the conversations were going on, it was difficult to understand each other.

We sat at a table in the right room by the “passage”. I found it relatively cold there because the door was often opened or not completely closed when smokers went out. Despite the vestibule, it wasn't that comfortable. Since we had only spontaneously reserved a table in the morning, we thought it was nice to have been accepted at all. Everything else was fine. Very nice thing. We have had lunch here about 8 times now and it is a party every time. This time, for the first time, the three of us sat in the adjacent building. While in the regular section there can sometimes be some hustle and bustle due to the passage, as well as the bar and kitchen, this section is all tranquil, partly due to the color scheme and lighting. Even when it's completely full. The gentleman serving is very friendly and efficient, he should be able to work directly in our catering company. The other people in the service are also wonderfully hospitable. What comes out of the kitchen is always excellent and the portions are generous. We would love to come here again.

Based on the description on your menu, I couldn't really imagine the taste of the dish, but it was very good. Atmosphere good, background noise quiet good for any conversation. Recommended and definitely try it out.
