KARIKAALA - indian & tamil cuisine in Lohmar

3 stars because I think there wasn't much choice. The dishes were ordinary, so I didn't think they tasted that great. The service was a bit slow, even though there weren't many people there. What I really liked were the drinks and appetizers; they were delicious and fresh. But I also think it's a bit pricey for the prices. (The desserts are limited and tasteless.)

Super friendly. The food was really very good. The black café crema had a slightly nutty flavor. It rounded off the great meal.

The ambience is really nice and the “Vorspeise” tasted good. Took the “Chozha” Unfortunately, the “Hauptspeise” dishes were served cold. For example, the Ghee Roast Dosa, Sambar and some other curries were not served hot. :( Hopefully this gets better the next time we visit :)

The food was impeccable. We deduct one point when eating for subjective reasons, as we are unfortunately very sensitive when it comes to the level of spiciness. If you don't mind spicy, you'll definitely get your taste buds here. Unfortunately, the initially promised “welcome from the kitchen” didn’t reach us, although we didn’t think that was a bad thing. Unfortunately we had to wait a little longer for the first round, but things improved over the course of the evening. :) The service was very friendly. We can highly recommend the restaurant!

Decent ambience and decor friendly service. We really enjoyed the food and concept of ordering buffet food to the table is good. Only point, Ice creams were a bit too sweet. Suggestion, service should include a tap water, if possible! Thanks to the team 😊🙏

10/10 😍 super tasty and really varied 😍 we had the all you can eat for 55€ which also included some drinks and a few more dishes, but I think that would have been enough for us for 35€ without the extras. But all in all it was super tasty and can only be recommended 👌🏼

The four of us were at Karikaala today and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening! The atmosphere is modern and cozy, and the service was really top – friendly, attentive and always trying to ensure that the guests had a pleasant stay. The concept of ordering from a tablet every 15 minutes is super practical and ensures that you can reorder whenever you feel like it. Due to the high occupancy, the dishes sometimes arrived slightly offset, which occasionally made it a little tricky to determine who owned which dish. But that didn't detract from the enjoyment! Everything was fresh, tasted excellent and beautifully presented. If you're looking for a high-quality all-you-can-eat experience, this is the place for you. We'll definitely be back!

10% more expensive than the average Indian restaurant. But the food quality, service and ambience are equally good here. Some Tamil dishes are another highlight. Friends of ours who were previously very steakhouse-oriented are now fully on board with us and are now enjoying the wide world of spices in Indian cuisine with us.

The location is very nice and cozy. Unfortunately, everything that was really “good” was not available, so it was a total shame for the money that was invested.

The food was a 10/10 and it was a great experience to be able to try so many dishes, many of which we had never eaten before ☺️ But what particularly stands out are the warm people who work there and stand behind them! Thank you for the great evening!

Very tasty, nice atmosphere and great concept. I only knew All You Can Eat from Asians and this was something completely different. Many very different dishes make the meal varied and enjoyable. As a non-alcoholic, the free selection of drinks was a bit limited for me, the lassis were a bit too sweet, but everything else was great. 😊 Service was very, very friendly and nice. Cohesive, beautiful ambience, very attentive staff and, above all, a very varied menu! My first visit to Karikaala was extremely pleasant and culinary rich. The menu offers a journey from mild to fiery hot, with and without meat. Highly recommended. :)

Am very satisfied. You could order as much food as you wanted in 15-minute intervals for just €35. You could also do this with dessert. Only recommended!

All the employees were very friendly, the 'all you can experience' (similar to Spanish tapas, only Tamil and Indian cuisine) was definitely worth every cent and the food was all sensationally delicious. We'll be back!

Unfortunately, this location is not recommended. All you can eat - compulsion. If one person at the table orders "All you can eat", everyone at the table must order "All you can eat", a la carte is then not possible. All the dishes we received were cold. If you didn't eat the entire portion, you had to pay a PENALTY of 2 euros per bowl. Conclusion: Never again! Since some of us felt sick after eating and it had a devastating effect, we assume that the food was not fresh and/or not cooked through! P.S.: I just read the operator's answers to other reviews,... It is an INSURANCE to blame cold food on a broken warming elevator or careless ordering. Does the elevator come directly from India? Something like that shouldn't end up on the table! Some of the food wasn't even lukewarm, but COLD!!!!

The food is always full of flavour and really authentic. The staff is friendly, and the tablet ordering makes everything quick and easy. This place is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend it!

The longer drive to try the food at KARIKAALA was really worth it! I had ordered the Hariyali Chicken Tikka for €26. It was very tender and the spices were perfectly incorporated into the meat. The flavors were incredible. For fans of authentic Indian and Tamil cuisine, it's definitely worth a visit!

The food was ok, unfortunately almost everything was cold. That was a shame, but it wasn't a highlight for that reason or anything else. However, the nan bread was really very good.

Unfortunately the food was cold - even after our advice, the following dishes were cold. The portions were too big for all you can eat, but if you had left any left over you would have had to pay a €2 “fine”. Not again - what a shame.

The food is super delicious! For us, the all-you-can-eat concept was a great thing. After visiting several times, we already know what we would like to/can order individually. Unfortunately, depending on where you sit, you don't get any attention from the staff. Otherwise nothing to complain about and would be happy to come back!

Unfortunately it has become more expensive. However, many dishes were not available. The size of the drinks is not satisfactory (usually only 0.2l). We used to like it better.

You can only order every 15 minutes and it takes far too long to prepare. Sometimes parts of the order don't arrive at all, even if you pay extra for them. The service is trying but chaotic. With a little better organization this could be a very tasty restaurant. The ambience is also appealing.

I've been to KARIKAALA several times for a few years and until recently I was extremely impressed. The service is great. The toilet is very clean. Ambience very very successful. Reservations are possible online in advance. The menu is a tablet on which you can order directly and call service. There is a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The food is fresh, well seasoned and (depending on what you order) quite spicy. You MUST try the mango ice cream, as well as the Nelli Falooda. It's just that I now have the feeling that the food (especially on Fridays and weekends when there are a lot of people) is oversalted -- perhaps so that people order more drinks.

Great restaurant, "all you can eat" with Indian dishes that ALL tasted great. Very clean and cozy. Very friendly service. We'll be back!

All you can eat experience - something completely different. You can order food using a tablet, and each table has its own tablet. You can place multiple orders, but if there are two of you I recommend ordering less and not all 8. There is so much food in total. It was very tasty, but the price was quite high... Employees were friendly. We can recommend it.

We stayed at Karikaala with 6 adults and one child and ordered the all you can eat version with 4 courses where each person can order 4 dishes per course via the tablet. It was a bit stressful the first time because 4 people have a tablet at their disposal. But overall it was a lot of fun to be able to taste so many dishes, it was all very tasty and authentic

We were looking for an Indian restaurant and found this restaurant in Lohmar. At first I was skeptical as to whether it was such a good idea, but the atmosphere was good. Everything was explained clearly to us as newbies, all you can eat with a tray for 35 euros or with drinks for 55 euros is only worth it in my opinion if no one has to drive. A few glasses of wine and water can easily cost over 20 euros The choice of food is very good and simple. You can choose something new every 15 minutes. We had 5 rounds and at the end I thought I was going to burst. Everything was very tasty, not huge portions but you can eat your way through the Indian cuisine. Simply very good 👍🏽 and delicious. If you don't tolerate spicy food well, you should pay attention to the chili peppers, from 3 it's already hot 🔥 But that's part of it too. We'll definitely be back.

An absolute dream of a restaurant. The restaurant is very nicely and discreetly furnished, soft background music makes even a long stay very relaxing. The food is fantastic, the selection is huge and the service is very friendly and personable. From mild to spicy, everything is there - exactly as it should be. I was there for dinner with my family. We took All you can Eat choice the price is 35 € for 1 person with out any drinks. I would say the food is ok. Not so bad or Not so good. The served food even soup is luke warm or cold food. Somasa , rolls, fish cutlet are full of potato mash instead of the meat fillings they mentioned on the menu. Service, atmosphere and ambience are good.

It was very tasty, I was here with my friend and we took the expirience for €35 and tried everything up and down. It was all very tasty. For my friend the spiciness was enough and for me it could have been a little more. So there is enough on the menu for people who can only eat slightly spicy food and there are also things for children!

Just because of a positive review from one of our friends,we travelled a long distance to reach this restaurant but our visit is terribly disappointing. You can't place the total order you want to eat. It's *limited that you need to wait after placing each order* around 15-20 minutes, which felt excessive. On top of that, the *portion sizes were surprisingly small* , making it unsuitable for those with a healthy appetite. "Not ideal for those quick eater or have a hearty appetite and prefer larger portions." "It seems more focused on presenting our traditional cuisine to foreign visitors rather than catering to locals who know and appreciate the authentic taste of our culture. (It's the best place for Indian & tamil who like to treat foreign colleagues with our delicious food) And lastly, I was disappointed with the service. The serving person was rude and did not respond properly. I understand that everyone has off days, but such behaviour is unacceptable in a hospitality setting. This experience left me feeling unwelcome and dissatisfied.

We tried their ‘All Inclusive’ and it was worth it and truly a unique way to taste asian cuisines! Love the food 🫶🏽and recommend 💯

The worst restaurant in the world

We had dinner with you this evening with the whole family, big and small (12). It was great from start to finish. Great authentic food and great atmosphere!!! This is one of our favorite Indian restaurants because the food is amazing and authentic and the service outstanding! The idea to have a variety of small dishes is ingenious because most of the time you want to try multiple dishes. The opportunity to go for the All You Can Eat and order a diversity of dishes really contributes to an amazing culinary experience! Of course the butter chicken is one of the best dishes, but also the pumpkin coconut soup or the coconut appam are a delight! All the dishes are served in an aesthetic way and the food is really high-quality! The restaurant is always bursting of people although it is in some village, because people from everywhere come to eat here! The service is also very attentive and you feel very welcome!

The restaurant impresses with authentic, aromatic Indian dishes. The presentation of the dishes was consistently convincing and the taste of the cuisine was also outstanding. The deductions come about because you have to order food and drinks yourself via an iPad, which is probably not that easy for some people. In addition, the open facility contributed to a loud background noise.

I had a disappointing experience last time. Most of the curries and some starters were overly salty. The "all you can eat" offer felt misleading, as portions were extremely small—just enough for a bite—and limited to four items per round, with a 15-minute wait between rounds. This forces you to order multiple rounds, stretching the meal to 1.5–2 hours, by which time you lose your appetite. To make things worse, drinks and some unique items are priced separately, and water costs €3 for just 300 ml. This you have to pay on top of €35 for the 'all you can eat' service. Overall, the experience felt poorly thought out and not worth the trouble.

Visiting this restaurant was a delicious, interesting and great experience. You choose the dishes based on photos on a small tablet. They are then brought to the table after a short time. Each dish had two sauces. We chose naan, lamb tikka and chicken tikka and were very satisfied. The portions were large and we would like to come back.

Everything's great, only one thing that's not really cool is when you're there for the first time and order your drinks and then you have to wait another 15 minutes until you can order. So if you don't know that, it's disadvantageous, but otherwise everything is great

"Originally I was disappointed when I came to the restaurant on November 14th and found that it was closed despite a reservation. The shop was dark and no one was there. But a short time later the boss contacted me personally and apologized the misunderstanding and offered me compensation. Very friendly and quick, the food is super tasty

Unfortunately the general food didn't taste delicious. So when it came to starters, only the salad and the naan bread were really good. In the main course, of all the dishes, only the butter chicken. Too bad. Drinks are not included in the “all you can eat” rate. For the price the ambience is very nice but I have tried much better Indian food in other restaurants. Almost 160€ for 4 people is TOO expensive for me. Nevertheless, thank you for the nice staff.

Nice ambience Short waiting times in the individual rounds. For €55 we thought we would get everything. Unfortunately, that's not how it is, even for the tea at the end you have to pay extra. The drinks always count as items, so you can only order something to drink every 15 minutes. The meat items are very small. Butter Chicken = pan with sauce and a small piece of meat. For the price of €55 per person we won't go there again. It was worth an experience but it was enough.

The overall concept of digitalized ordering without a classic menu didn't really create a cozy restaurant atmosphere for us. The concept is aimed exclusively at digital natives. People who have no affinity for app communication for various reasons (lack of interest, or lack of "digital competence", age, poor eyesight, etc.) are excluded here or are simply not the target group of the concept. It is very strange that it takes about 20 minutes here. sits in the restaurant without being asked for a drink order. But this ordering method is simply not intended. It is the exact opposite of the “Kölschen Köbes”. Even if you get involved with the digital concept, the implementation is unsatisfactory. Providing a group of 6 with only a small iPad for the "selection and ordering process" is no joy. Conclusion: - the food is good (otherwise I wouldn't be writing this review) - the personal service is virtually non-existent or as good or bad as the app. - the digital way to order is just annoying - A cozy meal with friends or family is (unfortunately) not possible for me here.

Wir waren heute das erste mal dort. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich leider überhaupt kein scharfes Essen essen kann/mag. Aber dennoch gab es auch für mich viele Gerichte, die mir sehr gut geschmeckt haben. Gerade die Auswahl an Desserts fand ich super. Mein Freund, der gerne scharf ist, hat einiges mehr probiert als ich und war auch rund um zufrieden. Die Atmosphäre in dem Lokal ist passend und angenehm. Die Wartezeiten zwischen den Bestellungen war auch vollkommen in Ordnung. Also wir können uns überhaupt nicht beschweren und kommen gerne wieder.

Every dish was overly seasoned. I don't know if that's normal with Indian cuisine, but it wasn't for my taste. But the cocktails are an absolute joke. 4 sips and the cocktail was empty simply because there were more ice cubes than anything else that was supposed to be in the cocktail. And that for 9€. I find that really crazy...

The food is tasty. Unfortunately, the many small bones in the chicken pieces, which only become noticeable in the mouth, spoil the enjoyment. Searching and spitting out is more than unpleasant.

The food is delicious and service is good too. However, I think it's really overpriced. We regularly go out for South Indian food in Frankfurt. We are familiar with Tamil cuisine. In Frankfurt we pay half the price for the same food and I think it's a bit tastier and more authentic.

The only good thing is the location, that's it. Waited 40 minutes per order. Food usually arrived cold and almost everything tasted the same. 2 overwhelmed waitresses, one nice, the other annoyed. Large all you can eat 55€, way too expensive not justified at all. We wanted to try something new, but that was the first and last time.

We waited up to 60 minutes for an order. No round came in under 20 minutes. We got about 5 laps in 3 hours, then we left out of frustration. Many of the dishes arrived cold. In each round at least 2 items were missing, we even had to explicitly ask for items that cost extra because they didn't come. The empty plates were always with us until the next order, sometimes 60 minutes. When asked and complained, an apology was made, but it didn't get any better. Even cold food that was returned came back cold or half dried out. Especially when it comes to chicken dishes, there are always pieces of bone in the food. In addition, many dishes were "sold out" (for example, only 3 out of 5 citizens were in stock).

I would especially like to praise the unusual desserts, a completely new experience 🍧🍦 The dishes were all originally flavored and in a wonderful portion size. The staff was extremely quick and friendly. The premises were clean and the restaurant is beautifully and comfortably furnished.

The food is very tasty and something different. Unfortunately we waited almost 1 hour for the 1st round (all you can eat). The table was not cleared of the old containers and the ladies in service spoke so quickly that you could hardly understand anything. Dishes that were presented unusually were not “explained” about how to eat them. Still a nice experience.
