KARIKAALA - indian & tamil cuisine in Lohmar

Nice ambience Short waiting times in the individual rounds. For €55 we thought we would get everything. Unfortunately, that's not how it is, even for the tea at the end you have to pay extra. The drinks always count as items, so you can only order something to drink every 15 minutes. The meat items are very small. Butter Chicken = pan with sauce and a small piece of meat. For the price of €55 per person we won't go there again. It was worth an experience but it was enough.

The overall concept of digitalized ordering without a classic menu didn't really create a cozy restaurant atmosphere for us. The concept is aimed exclusively at digital natives. People who have no affinity for app communication for various reasons (lack of interest, or lack of "digital competence", age, poor eyesight, etc.) are excluded here or are simply not the target group of the concept. It is very strange that it takes about 20 minutes here. sits in the restaurant without being asked for a drink order. But this ordering method is simply not intended. It is the exact opposite of the “Kölschen Köbes”. Even if you get involved with the digital concept, the implementation is unsatisfactory. Providing a group of 6 with only a small iPad for the "selection and ordering process" is no joy. Conclusion: - the food is good (otherwise I wouldn't be writing this review) - the personal service is virtually non-existent or as good or bad as the app. - the digital way to order is just annoying - A cozy meal with friends or family is (unfortunately) not possible for me here.

Wir waren heute das erste mal dort. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich leider überhaupt kein scharfes Essen essen kann/mag. Aber dennoch gab es auch für mich viele Gerichte, die mir sehr gut geschmeckt haben. Gerade die Auswahl an Desserts fand ich super. Mein Freund, der gerne scharf ist, hat einiges mehr probiert als ich und war auch rund um zufrieden. Die Atmosphäre in dem Lokal ist passend und angenehm. Die Wartezeiten zwischen den Bestellungen war auch vollkommen in Ordnung. Also wir können uns überhaupt nicht beschweren und kommen gerne wieder.

Every dish was overly seasoned. I don't know if that's normal with Indian cuisine, but it wasn't for my taste. But the cocktails are an absolute joke. 4 sips and the cocktail was empty simply because there were more ice cubes than anything else that was supposed to be in the cocktail. And that for 9€. I find that really crazy...

The only good thing is the location, that's it. Waited 40 minutes per order. Food usually arrived cold and almost everything tasted the same. 2 overwhelmed waitresses, one nice, the other annoyed. Large all you can eat 55€, way too expensive not justified at all. We wanted to try something new, but that was the first and last time.

We waited up to 60 minutes for an order. No round came in under 20 minutes. We got about 5 laps in 3 hours, then we left out of frustration. Many of the dishes arrived cold. In each round at least 2 items were missing, we even had to explicitly ask for items that cost extra because they didn't come. The empty plates were always with us until the next order, sometimes 60 minutes. When asked and complained, an apology was made, but it didn't get any better. Even cold food that was returned came back cold or half dried out. Especially when it comes to chicken dishes, there are always pieces of bone in the food. In addition, many dishes were "sold out" (for example, only 3 out of 5 citizens were in stock).

The food is delicious and service is good too. However, I think it's really overpriced. We regularly go out for South Indian food in Frankfurt. We are familiar with Tamil cuisine. In Frankfurt we pay half the price for the same food and I think it's a bit tastier and more authentic.

The food is tasty. Unfortunately, the many small bones in the chicken pieces, which only become noticeable in the mouth, spoil the enjoyment. Searching and spitting out is more than unpleasant.

Disappointing experience at Karikaala Unfortunately our visit to Karikaala in Lohmar was a big disappointment. We had to wait over an hour for our food even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. When the food finally came, it was cold and unappetizing. The curry was lukewarm and the side dishes weren't heated through properly either. The service was friendly, but unfortunately that doesn't help much with such long waiting times and cold food. We were looking forward to a cozy evening with good food, but were disappointed. Overall, in my opinion the price-performance ratio was not justified and we will probably never come back!

The food is very tasty and something different. Unfortunately we waited almost 1 hour for the 1st round (all you can eat). The table was not cleared of the old containers and the ladies in service spoke so quickly that you could hardly understand anything. Dishes that were presented unusually were not “explained” about how to eat them. Still a nice experience.

A shop that is located exactly between Cologne and Bonn. As a rule, you always have to make a reservation here because the store is usually packed. As Tamils ​​we were surprised at how authentic the food was. There wasn't a good parking situation so we just parked at Lidl on Sunday. All buffet orders are placed via tablet. Price performance is not right at all. Food 90% cold or max. lukewarm. Portions are all mini and you can order a maximum of 4 portions at once. Plus waiting times of up to an hour between orders. Quality for the appetizers is mediocre and many dishes are based on the same basis. Total rip off for me!

We had the all-you-can-eat for €35. With drinks for two we paid €84. The atmosphere is nice and the waiters are friendly. Unfortunately we waited a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes for our first two rounds of food. After that, the rounds came more quickly, but of course you already ordered 4 rounds without trying anything. This was a bit annoying. This restaurant is NOT for people who don't like caraway seeds. However, there are many vegetarian dishes. Since we didn't have the all-you-can-eat for €55, almost all dishes were included and otherwise you only had to pay a little extra. We were here from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and towards the end of the meal we unfortunately had the feeling that the quality, even of the same dishes, was decreasing. Karikaala is a modern, yet cozy restaurant. Anyone looking for new and extraordinary dining experiences will not be disappointed here. The service was always friendly and courteous and the food was always fresh and very tasty. We particularly like the large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The concept with the tablet is great because it gives you the opportunity to try out a lot. We also like the variety of cocktails, as these are also highly recommended. We always love coming back!

From the delicious food to the super friendly service, everything was just perfect. We had the all you can eat and every single dish was a poem. I have never invested €30 so well.

It was my second visit to KARIKAALA and this time also my last. First of all: The ambience is great and really cozy, stylish and lovingly furnished. The wait staff is quite young and therefore a bit clumsy, but you can't blame anyone for that. The food is average at best. With some main courses you can notice that the same base is used, just seasoned differently. Ultimately it's a subjective perception, but I've eaten much better Indian/Tamil food. My main criticism: price/performance ratio. We had the large menu for €55 and can now say that it is absolutely not worth it. The portions are tiny (meat dishes are served with a cube of meat), the process means you quickly get full and can't eat much, and most of the drinks are not included in the price. And then you have to pay €2 for a dish that you don't finish (be it because it's too spicy or you don't like it...). Although we didn't end up in this situation, I think it's steep given the basic price of €55. Wanting to combine all you can eat with sustainability is nice, but in my opinion it is difficult to implement and cannot be passed on to the customer. We paid €110 for a therefore mediocre experience.

We were in this restaurant for the first and unfortunately last time. Having heard so many good reviews about KIRIKAALA, we were really disappointed. We took the "large" all you can eat and were rather dissatisfied with the selection of drinks that were included. For the fact that you pay €20 more than for the normal all you can eat, there was only a small selection of drinks, many were required you pay extra. You order the individual dishes using a tablet; you can choose 4 dishes per person. The drinks are included, which means if you choose a drink you only have 3 dishes to choose from. Since you can only order every 15 minutes, you tend to stay thirsty in the evening. We have found that you have to wait quite a long time for your food. The food arrived lukewarm to cold, rarely hot. When we ordered our third round, only half of the order arrived. We waited 30 minutes until we contacted the waiter to ask where our food was. At that time we had already ordered the 4th round. Unfortunately, the waiter didn't really understand our request (slight language barrier), but he tried to correct the error and ask about the food in the kitchen. In the end our 4th round came and we never got the food from the 3rd round. Very unfortunate.

Very tasty food, especially the all you can eat with ordering via tablet is fun! It's a little more expensive, but worth the money. We will definitely come back! Only the lassi was too firm and too sweet for us. And it's a shame that soft drinks are only available in small 0.2l bottles and not in large glasses.

I was very excited about the concept and atmosphere. 35€ for the all you can eat “light” is overall too high for what is on offer. Unfortunately the chicken lollipop wasn't cooked properly or was raw as you can see in the picture. When this was brought up, the service staff simply acknowledged it. Some of the dishes on offer were already “sold out” at 6 p.m. on a Saturday. Overall, as I said, the price/performance ratio (almost €100 for 2 people) doesn't fit and that's why we won't be coming back.

Karikaala has been our regular restaurant for a few years and we have always been satisfied. Recently we were asked by a nice waiter if we could leave a review and We were happy about that because we had been meaning to do this for a long time. We have also read some negative reviews that we cannot understand at all, Because with every visit we were always very satisfied with our dishes and were always treated courteously. The attention to detail in preparing the small dishes alone is admirable. There are also so many different dishes for different tastes. For example, my husband only eats meat, while I only eat vegetarian. Nevertheless, there is so much there from starters to desserts. We particularly praise the homemade ice cream flavors (e.g. mango ice cream). The boss and the staff were always friendly to us. Even when there was sometimes a lot going on, you always responded to our wishes. Above all, you can see that the boss himself regularly asks us or other guests whether everything is OK. This cannot be said about other restaurants. We have recommended Karikaala to our family and friends and will continue to do so. So please keep it up!

Today I celebrated our wedding anniversary and his birthday with my husband at Karikaala. The food was fantastic. Every single dish was well seasoned, warm and beautifully presented. The food and drinks were served quickly. Unfortunately it was quite loud in the restaurant. Therefore, the service person who explained the concept to us was quite difficult to understand and we were a bit confused at the beginning. But this went away after the first round of orders. A great plus point: when I made the reservation I was asked about the event. There was a dessert with a candle for his birthday and a glass of champagne for his wedding anniversary. We were also congratulated upon arrival. The service is generally very friendly and attentive.

Karikaala, well what can you say about that. Absolute disaster!!!! And above all, rip-offs are no longer possible!! So first of all we're getting ripped off like no other. We were 3 people at lunchtime, otherwise there wasn't a single customer in the restaurant, we were told that you can't eat ala carte on one table and all you can eat on the other table/that's absolute bullshit. Then we were told that there was something new and that we could order all you can eat and pay €10 per person and €3-4 for each item we order, so with drinks it was €84 plus the €30 = €114 We have never spent € this much for 3 people. We were so dissatisfied with the food we ordered arrived lukewarm and honestly a small piece of meat per bowl is very poor. Everything didn't taste good at all and we are absolute lovers of Indian cuisine and really enjoy eating Indian food and know our stuff! Rs tasted absolutely nothing. Above all, I had to eat separately from my family because they actually wanted to eat ala cart, so honestly we've never experienced anything like that before. The boss was there and he didn't even say hello to us, the only guests there were at least as we walked past, a little hello would have been enough. Then he stood at the door as we sat outside because it wasn't air conditioned inside and was very warm. So he stood there and looked really angry at you. We advise everyone not to go there. We absolutely cannot understand the supposedly good reviews on Google. Instead, check out the reviews on TripAdvisor. At least they tell the truth about this store. We drove an extra 100km there and never went to this restaurant again.

We have been visiting this restaurant for several years and appreciate the delicious food, the good service and the ambience. However, during our visit on August 17, 2024, we were very disappointed - not by the technical difficulties that can sometimes affect every store, but by the management of the store that evening. More than an hour passed between ordering and delivery (you order in several rounds with a minimum distance between them). This didn't change even after the problem was supposedly fixed, even though we were promised that it would now work faster. The (still friendly and pitiful) waitress was let down with unreliable information. She obviously didn't even have permission for a discount or anything like that. We had to pay the full buffet price, even though we had to cut the stay short due to lack of time and ordered less than we wanted. This is v. a. humanly poor!

I went to the restaurant for the first time with my girlfriend. We both decided on the €35 all-you-can-eat package P.P. Starters were delicious, 70% of the food was lukewarm or unfortunately cold :( We tried to order the Garlic Naan 3 times and always received the Butter Naan. Some of the curries were such small portions that you had to order them 4-5 times, which was unfortunately very annoying… Drinks were fine! Service was super nice! Conclusion: Unfortunately it's not worth a second visit for us because, in our opinion, the price-performance ratio is unfortunately not right :(

We were there with a fairly large group, which turned out to be a mistake, I have to say. But first the positive: The food is really, really tasty and the ambience looks great too. BUT The concept of the restaurant is just bad for all cou can eat. The dishes are incredibly small - often only two tablespoons in size. But we waited an extremely long time. The first meal came almost 45 minutes after ordering, which is really sobering given the small portion. The service was nice, but very overwhelmed with all the dishes and the many small orders that the concept brings with you. We also had two tablets at one table, which often didn't differentiate between operation. Since you lose track of your own orders (everyone orders 4 tiny dishes at the same time), in the end no one knows whose food it is. This also causes constant unrest at the table and therefore stress and interruptions in conversation. So if you eat here, eat from the menu to avoid stress. The restaurant should simply make the dishes about 3 times as large and then they have solved a huge problem. The food itself tastes excellent! Just give me more of it! Then I'll come back again.

The food was really very tasty. Everything tasted great and was perfect. Unfortunately, the staff often brought us the wrong dishes or some not at all (we ate all you can eat via tablet). At some point we felt uncomfortable saying that over and over again. Then the waiter tipped over a glass of drink and our bag and the seat got wet. All in all, the food was delicious, but the team should be trained better.

The KARIKAALA restaurant in Lohmar offers an interesting selection of Tamil dishes that give an insight into the diverse cuisine of South India. Overall my visit there was pleasant, however there are some aspects that could be improved. The ambience of the restaurant is inviting and cozy, which contributes to a pleasant dining experience. The menu is varied and offers a good selection of traditional Tamil dishes. However, I was a bit disappointed with the spiciness of the food. As a fan of Tamil cuisine, I would have liked more intensity and spice. Although the dishes were balanced in terms of taste, they lacked the spiciness typical of this cuisine, which tickles the palate and makes the meal exciting. However, I would particularly like to highlight the dessert offering. The ice cream and appam were excellent and made the visit to KARIKAALA a special experience. The ice cream was creamy and rich in flavors while the appam was perfectly cooked - crispy on the edge and soft in the middle. The service at KARIKAALA was friendly and attentive, which rounded off the positive overall impression. All in all, my visit to KARIKAALA was okay. However, with a little more spiciness in the main dishes, the restaurant could still score significantly and completely convince lovers of Tamil cuisine.

We ate here and everything was just GREAT!!!! We had all you can eat. When people rate this place with 1 star because they got sick from the food, I just find it sad. First of all, you don't get the effects of food poisoning when you eat, but a few hours to days later. To then claim that it 100% comes from here..... BULLSHIT You can also get food poisoning from a vacuum-packed slice of sausage from the supermarket. So......Didn't you eat anything that day and the day before??? We can recommend this restaurant 300%!! I don't know any better Indians, and I know many. Unfortunately we live too far away to come here often.

It was great unexpected surprise for us . Ambience and food was excellent. Price was reasonable. Car parking is at open ground opposite to hotel/lidl. Very homely and authentic. Must visit to try authentic Indian Tamil food. Highly recommended.

*FOOD POISONING* We actually enjoyed the visit and the food was tasty. Unfortunately, we got food poisoning at 3 a.m. that night. Both my partner and I were affected, although our symptoms began with a delay of around 10 minutes. My partner had brief nausea and hot flashes while eating. We were there with a group of eight people, two of whom also had stomach problems during the night. I've never had food poisoning before, and there's no way we got it somewhere else. It's a shame because we actually enjoyed the visit. I don't understand how something like this can happen in a food processing plant. Similar incidents have also been reported in previous reviews. Apart from the good 120 euros that literally ended up in the toilet, the whole thing is simply disappointing and damaging to the reputation of the entire catering industry.

The restaurant was recommended to us by an Indian family and we are absolutely thrilled after the visit. The concept of ordering via tablet is great; the small portions mean you can try your hand at everything from the menu. This was ideal for us, who hadn't had much contact with Indian cuisine yet! All dishes are well described and the friendly service staff are happy to help if you have any questions or problems. The ambience is really nice and invites you to linger for a longer time. The food was super tasty, we found something for everyone and even our children (11 and 6 years old) found dishes that they liked straight away. Yes, the price is a little higher, but I'm willing to pay more for the quality and taste! This was our first, but definitely not our last visit! We will be back…

We were there for the first time yesterday. I reserved a table in advance and my wishes were taken into account. We were warmly welcomed and shown to the table. The atmosphere is very modern and the music playing in the background is very pleasant, so you can also have a conversation. We ordered the various delicacies of Indian cuisine in several rounds. Every 15 minutes, 4 dishes per person could be selected, which is completely sufficient. I think we did 4 laps and were more than full at the end. The dishes are all seasoned differently and are a special experience for the German palate, which we were happy to indulge in and can recommend. I also think it's good that they reserve the right to charge a fee if the bowl isn't eaten (I think €1-2). This avoids ordering food randomly, which I find very positive. Great food, great service. Didn’t expect to find authentic South Asian food in a small town while we are doing a road trip around Köln so this was a good surprise. Loved the jackfruits kuthu roti and the andhra fish curry a lot. Both the starters we had fish amritsari and chicken 65 were amazing with spicy and mint sauce. They also have panir puri which are not common to find here in Germany. Supper yummy! The restaurant is run by friendly Sri Lankan folks so those Sri Lankan items are just so on point 👌🏼

We drove an extra 1 1/2 hours from Mönchengladbach and it was worth it. The food was very tasty, authentic and freshly prepared with hardly any waiting time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We will be back definitely!

The food was delicious and for the most part tasted good. The price is a little more expensive than usual, but you have a good selection. I would recommend A la Carte €35 and that's more worth it than ordering individual dishes! I would order drinks separately and avoid the à la carte €55, but it depends on how much you drink and what? We were there on Easter Sunday, March 31st There were four of us and we each paid an additional 10 euros for three large bottles of water, a small one, two fruit cocktails and a Sprite. That was completely clear. Unfortunately I have to say that me and a colleague of mine had to deal with stomach problems the very next day. Two of our friends tested positive for norovirus. Presumably the meat wasn't fresh, the food wasn't prepared properly, or it was served with unhygienic hands. It was definitely the food that made them both sick and we ask you to pay attention to the preparation and quality! It's really difficult to set foot in the KARIKAALA restaurant again with confidence after this experience! Therefore, unfortunately I cannot recommend the restaurant!

We were here for the first time today, and definitely not the last time. We were overwhelmed by the large selection of all you can eat and the food was excellent in terms of taste and quality. The service was really great, unfortunately I don't have a name, but she had a glittering stone on her tooth. Thank you very much for this delicious evening. Everything was very good. Except one case, today I'm second time both visits to Lamb Chobs sale sets. It's not a coincidence.

Wir haben uns Hier mit Freunden getroffen bezüglich des Jobwechsels einer Kollegin. Es war richtig gut, das Konzept mit den bestellrunden finde ich Klasse und hat Spaß gemacht. Besonders das "Butter Chicken" hat mir so gefallen, das ich es 2 mal Bestellte. Ich würde hier immer wieder gerne hin gehen.

Begrüßung war schon mal ein „super“ Start… ein ziemlich unfreundlicher Mensch empfing uns, ohne auch nur ein Hallo oder Herzlich willkommen zu sagen und verwies uns an unseren Tisch. Als ziemlich große Gruppe wurde von uns verlangt, entweder müssen alle das „all you can eat“ oder alle „Karte“ nehmen. Wie bitte?? Davon haben wir im Vorfeld auf der Homepage nichts gelesen. Auch wenn die Bewertungen uns schon „vorgewarnt“ haben, was den schlechten Service und lange Wartezeiten etc. betrifft, wollten wir dem Restaurant eine „Chance“ geben und uns ein eigenes Bild machen. Dass wir noch ZUSÄTZLICH negative Dinge erleben würden, damit haben wir nicht gerechnet. Die Überforderung des Kellners war ihm deutlich anzusehen. Dieser benötigte noch zusätzlich zwei andere Männer, die in ihrer Sprache vor uns rumdiskutierten und dann schließlich den „Manager“ hinzuzogen. 4 mal mussten wir erklären und darauf bestehen, dass die Hälfte von uns nach Karte bestellen möchte und die andere Hälfte „all you can eat“. Ziemlich genervt zogen sie demonstrativ unsere Tische auseinander…(was wir als Gruppe vorschlugen… von alleine kamen sie nicht darauf..) sehr unangenehm. Und der Rest des Abends…. Mhhhh was soll ich dazu sagen…. Aus den Bewertungen, die bereits im Netz über das Restaurant drin stehen, haben sie bis jetzt noch nichts gelernt oder verbessert. Ganz im Gegenteil. Essen wurde nach über ner Stunde erst gebracht, obwohl das Restaurant nicht voll war.. es gab keine Infos oder irgendwie Kontaktmöglichkeiten um welche zu bekommen. Alles nur übers Tablett!!! Von wegen „Abläufe optimieren“!!! Damit wird es sich einfach leicht gemacht und der Kunde darf zusehen, und warten und warten und warten und wenn dann das Essen in wirklich absolut kleinen Portionen kommt, dann ist dieses auch noch kalt. (Von dem anbgesehen, dass einiges was wir bestellt haben, gar nicht ankam und aber anderes einfach hingestellt wurde..) 2x wurde uns gesagt, wenn wir nicht aufessen, dann gibts einen Aufpreis.. Also irgendwas läuft da gehörig schief. Ich verstehe es ja, dass wenn ne Menge über bleibt, dass das nicht geht, aber dann bitte bringt uns das, was wir auch bestellt haben!!! Unfassbar. Da wir im Vorfeld ja schon so diskutieren mussten, wollten wir das dann aber nicht auch noch beanstanden, weil wir unseren Abend nicht ganz ruinieren wollten und schlechte Laune verhindern wollten. Daher kommen wir nicht über diese Bewertung drumherum. Schade. Echt schade. Das Restaurant hätte richtig Potenzial. Die Einrichtung, Deko etc. sind echt toll. Aber leider ist das nicht alles.. Liebes Team vom Karikaala, nehmt euch die Bewertungen zu Herzen, ändert diese Dinge. Dann kommen auch sicherlich positive Bewertungen und Kunden, die ihren Besuch auch wiederholen. Wir sind da allerdings raus.. Gibt sooo viele andere tolle Restaurants, die ihren Preis auch wirklich wert sind.

I have often enjoyed authentic Indian cuisine, even in India itself. But the restaurant is unique for me so far. Despite an all-you-can-eat concept, every dish is cooked with care and tastes perfectly balanced. Turn-based ordering makes sense, is simple and creates anticipation. Everything is seasoned just right and cooked to perfection. From curry to ice cream, every dish is a taste explosion. The only downside was the last time we had to wait quite a long time for our food. However, it was also very crowded on a Friday evening. The condition still did their best and was always helpful and friendly. Absolute recommendation.
