Island - Café, Bar & Essen in Wuppertal

A very pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. We found the value for money to be excellent. We love going there.

We recently went there with a group, and I'll start with the positives. The two waitresses were very attentive and tried their best. That's about it, though. The pizza rolls with aioli we ordered as an appetizer turned out to be just a few slices of dry bread. The "hot prawns" were a teaspoonful of small, cheap prawns, Aldi-style, sizzling in hot oil. After two hours, the main courses finally arrived, but unfortunately, they were spaced far apart. The first ones had finished eating before the last one had received theirs. The quality of the food was also rather subpar. The pasta with avocado and bell pepper-tomato sauce, for example, tasted very bland, and the sauce was practically nonexistent. This poor quality was consistent throughout all the dishes. All in all, I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant, even though they did reduce the bill a bit in the end.

Disastrous. The service was abysmal: they only came to our table to take our drink order after almost 30 minutes. The food arrived far too late: after two hours, we still hadn't received anything, even though we only ordered two salads and one pasta dish. The only response was a flippant remark that it would take 30 minutes longer today. The table that arrived after us ordered, ate, and paid within those two hours. Never again, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Delicious food in a lovely, modernized setting near the suspension railway. Unfortunately, the service wasn't at its best during our visit. Our group waited an hour and a half for our food, and the staff didn't check on our drinks nearly enough. Consequently, settling the bill took a full 30 minutes. The owner apologized several times later, and we would go back – but dear service team, I hope you can optimize your service process in the future!

The food was great, but the time between courses was far too long at 45 to 60 minutes each.

We had a truly wonderful evening at Island. The food was outstanding. I had vitello tonnato and carbonara with delicious bread. We enjoyed a lovely wine and a Lillet beforehand. Everything was absolutely superb! The two staff members—I assume they are the new owners or managers—were incredibly attentive. They were polite and friendly, and we lacked for nothing. It's just as highly recommended as it always was!

This was our first time here. From the friendly service to the excellent food to the all-around feel-good package, everything was perfect. The owner, in addition to serving us, came to our table to personally make sure everything was in order. We had two pasta dishes, one of which was gluten-free, both absolutely EXCELLENTLY delicious. I had a special request for a little extra spice, which was absolutely perfectly accommodated. Highly recommended for a date/relaxed evening. 10/10 Gastronomy

Yesterday, five of us went to eat at Island, and unfortunately, it was rather disappointing. Because there were a lot of guests but only two servers, everything took a while, but that was okay. Unfortunately, the glasses and cutlery weren't always completely clean. The food was also just okay; we remembered it being better from a previous visit. Actually, we felt like we were being a burden...

I think the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the waiters are all very friendly. Smiling seems to be on the daily to-do list here. The prices are more than fair. We got a great lunch deal for 11.90 per person. We ordered a salad and a pizza, both of which were very generous portions and very tasty. The salad was made with love, and the pizza came fresh from the stone oven. The food alone was great, and we each received a delicious, refreshing drink with our meal. All I can say is, try this place out. In terms of value for money, you won't find anything better in Wuppertal.

Today was only my second visit to this restaurant, and I have to say I was absolutely thrilled again. Everything is just right here. The ambiance is very stylish. The service is also a 10 out of 10 – super friendly and with a genuine smile. The food is cooked to perfection. Even the cappuccino is outstanding. The first time, I had a salad with a first-class dressing, and today I had a funghi pizza, which was truly exceptional. So much so, that I really wanted to write this review. I've only been there twice and I've already found a new favorite place in Elberfeld. Thanks to the entire team!

Yesterday, I just wanted to grab a quick snack with a valued guest before a concert. Unfortunately, the waitress's service was consistently disappointing. I don't want to simply criticize the service. When employees are taking their first steps in the working world, it's even more important that an experienced manager provides them with proper guidance and support. For the first time, I didn't tip at a restaurant. I didn't want to let it ruin my valuable day, so I simply left last night. Nevertheless, I'm leaving this feedback, for her and for the restaurant.

Great Italian restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. 😋 The price/performance ratio is absolutely perfect. We've been there both spontaneously and with reservations. Always as a group. Friendly and fast service. All meals were served hot and almost simultaneously. 👍 They also checked regularly to see if everything was OK and if we needed anything else. The food was incredibly delicious and impressed us all. Highly recommended. 👍

I only go there at lunchtime. Extremely long wait times, even though they offer a lunch menu and the place is almost empty. Very inflexible when it comes to special requests. Not a good choice for a quick lunch break.

I was at the Island restaurant in Wuppertal last week and was absolutely thrilled! The pasta transported me straight to Italy – perfectly al dente and full of flavor. Excellent service, a wonderful atmosphere, and beautiful decor – everything just fits perfectly here. I highly recommend it!

We ordered two takeaway salads and found insects in them. EDIT: I then went back to the restaurant and showed the manager the insects in the salad. He offered me €10 as an apology, which I find outrageous. We consider this a clear violation of food and hygiene laws (§§ 5, 8, and 11 of the Food and Feed Code). We will report the case.

The food is always fantastic! The ambiance and food are unparalleled in Wuppertal and the surrounding area!

We've eaten at Island many times; it seems the owner must have changed since our last visit. The staff were very friendly. We were given the menu quickly, but then nothing happened. We couldn't order our drinks until we'd ordered our food. Then it took a while for them to finally arrive. There were two other tables occupied besides us. Then came a starter, a decent size, and nothing to complain about in terms of taste. After an hour of waiting, our main course finally arrived. The portions were OK, although the sides could have been a bit bigger (fries/fried potatoes). The amount was very manageable. Everything tasted delicious. After asking several times to pay, the waiter came to our table after 20 minutes. The staff were very friendly and helpful the whole time, but they were clearly overwhelmed by the number of guests. Even though it wasn't really full, more guests arrived towards the end. There, too, we noticed that it took a very long time to take our drinks and food orders. Unfortunately, you have to be very patient and accept longer waiting times, which wasn't the case before.

The Island restaurant has now become my absolute favorite Italian restaurant! The food is simply fantastic, always fresh, prepared with love, and top-notch in terms of taste. Whether it's pasta, pizza, or one of the specials: you can taste that quality and authenticity are paramount here. The service is exceptionally warm, attentive, yet pleasantly unobtrusive. You feel welcome from the very first moment. Even special requests are met with a smile. The ambiance is cozy and stylish at the same time, perfect for a relaxing evening with friends, family, or even just the two of you. In short: If you're looking for good Italian food in a pleasant atmosphere, you'll be completely satisfied at Island. I'm always happy to come back – I highly recommend it!

I feel sorry for the waiters, working for such an incompetent boss. Paid 80€ for 2 hours of waiting and a few ravioli with drinks. If you are unable to provide menus, then don't offer it. Loading junk, I'll never come back and I advise everyone not to do so

Didn't know about this restaurant but had dinner there last night and it was great! Super nice waiters, delicious and varied food, cozy atmosphere and good prices! Can only recommend it and will definitely come back :) I also think it's very good that you're participating in NeoTaste.

Great Italian, we were completely satisfied. Here we cook with a lot of love and heart. Everything was great, the antipasti, the pizza, pasta, meat and dessert. Very good price-performance ratio.

The Mittagessen was really good value for money. I selected the pasta and it was really delicious. The mushrooms confused me, I thought they were canned mushrooms but they were really juicy and flavorful. Pasta was cooked al dente and perfect.

Die negetaiven Bewertungen sind nicht nachzuvollziehen, wenn etwas unschön läuft, spricht man es an und bewertet nicht direkt negativ. Zu den Portionen möchte ich sagen, wir sind nicht bei Vapiano, Bar Celona & Co. und will man unbedingt eine Schlachterplatte!? Die Portionen sind ausreichend und der Geschmack hebt sich von anderen Ketten ab. ;) Die Panzerotti mit Ziegenkäse gefüllt und Salbeibutter, sind ein Genuss.😀 Freundliches Personal, nette Hintergrundmusik, angenehmes Ambiente. 😀 Ich komme gerne hier her. ❤️

War bisher zwei Mal im Café Island, einmal abends, einmal mittags. Beide Male war ich eher enttäuscht. Essen geschmacklich okay, Portionen für den Preis aber sehr klein. Getränke auch sehr teuer. Würde nicht mehr hingehen

Es ist immer ein gutes Zeichen, wenn irgendwas "aus" ist. Ein Zeichen, daß frisch gekocht wird. Und so haben wir uns statt für das ausverkaufte Schweinefilet für hausgemachte Lasagne und Hähnchenbrust mit frischem Gemüse und Kartoffeln entschieden. Es war sehr lecker !

Nice place next to the river. Pizza was nice, panini and the aioli was really good. Avocado pasta needed a bit of salt and spicy oil witch we got on the side The service was good and all the people were really friendly. Cocktails was good. Like all Italian restaurants aperol was great.

Ich war dort mit meiner Freundin essen. Die Auswahl ist zwar nicht groß, aber das was wir uns ausgesucht haben, war sehr lecker und die Portion auch groß. Es wird nicht der letzte Besuch gewesen sein. Personal sehr freundlich, kann ich nur weiter empfehlen.

Eine italienische Manifacttira unica Italia.. Ich liebe es einfach, von einer leidenschaftlicher Bedienung eingewickelt zu werden. So viel Charme.. Unsere Hauptgerichte: Spaghetti Bolognese 92 Punkte Spagetti Gambas 98 Punkte Aperol, einen Hauch zu dünn 85 Punkte Mojito, hier für die Zubereitung 100 Punkte, sonst 90 Punkte Zum Schluß gibt es noch einen Dry Gin mit Tonic.. Hendrick's Gin soll es sein, bin mir aber nicht sicher, daher bleibt dieses Getränk ausser Wertung. Alles in Allem gut und werde wiederkommen.. LG Euer John Marten Tailor

Sehr schönes Ambiente, perfekter, sehr sympathischer Service, leckere italienische Küche, da frage ich mich schon, warum sich direkt gegenüber im Vapiano Gäste anstellen wie in der Betriebskantine, um etwas zu essen und zu trinken. Island ist garantiert einen Besuch Wert und ich freue mich, wenn es Ihnen genauso gut gefällt wie mir.

Es hat wirklich alles gestimmt und sowohl die Getränke als auch das Essen war ausgesprochen lecker!!! Das Ambiente, Personal, Essen super!!! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder -aus Duisburg! :-) ganz klare Empfehlung!!!

Moderner, aber sehr gemütlicher Laden, schönes Farbkonzept, warme Beleuchtung, leider recht schlechte Akustik, wenn es voll ist! Dann wird eine Unterhaltung zu viert schon schwierig! Essen okay, Pizza mit schönem Boden, etwas trocken, Lasagne definitiv zu dunkel gebacken und zu trocken! Pasta sah sehr gut aus und Antipasti sehr lecker! Limonade aus eigener Herstellung top! Nicht zu süß! Service sehr freundlich. Tisch nicht pünktlich frei trotz Reservierung! Schöne Terasse im Herzen von Wuppertal mit Blick auf die Schwebebahn!

Hatte gefragt, ob die Portion der Nudeln groß genug ist und dies würde bejat. Portion war relativ klein und ich hab dann gefragt ob ich was nachgekommen kann. Mir wurde noch ein anderes Gericht gebracht, was genauso fabelhaft war wie das andere. Service war dann auch sehr kulant und freundlich. Atmosphäre war auch sehr entspannt. Wer italienisches essen und frische Küche mag sollte aufjedenfall mal vorbeischauen. Wir kommen gerne wieder :)

Wir sind gestern mit Freunden bedingt durch das Gutscheinbuch Wuppertal das erste Mal im Island Wuppertal gelandet. Wir sind begeistert und werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Sowohl die Nudeln (ob Lasagne, mit Gambas oder mit Avocado) als auch die Pizza, das Essen war außergewöhnlich gut. Besonders hervorzuheben ist auch die super freundliche Bedienung, sowie die tolle Location direkt an der Wupper. TOP 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Ich war total begeistert, als wir direkt am Eingang nach 2G gefragt wurde. Dies gab mir ein gutes Gefühl. Essen und trinken waren zusätzlich gut.
