House of Small Wonder in Berlin

After meeting up with friends from Berlin, I repeated the next day at lunchtime. Everything was super delicious and fresh.

What a beautiful place, warm and calm, a little bit dark though. We had the biscuit Benedict and the French Toast and both were excellent, rich and fluffy. The service was great, and we spent a lovely Saturday morning there. Don’t forget to reserve a table because the place is fully booked from the moment it opens.

Really tasty brunch, a lot of options, and good ambience

Very nice restaurant in the back courtyard. The staff speaks German and English, and the menu is also in German and English. We had smashed avocado and potato gratin, with chocolate mousse and hot chocolate. The chocolate mousse is fantastic and highly recommended. Overall, except for the hot chocolate, everything was very, very delicious. We'd be happy to come back.

Worst service, didn't respond to our needs

Super bad experience we were a group of 10 we weren't allowed to celebrate the birthday they got the cake from us still in the box and they didn't even try to find a solution for us. Not recommended for birthday very bad decision.

Every time we go, we encounter a problem. The staff greets you as if they hate you, they force you to book a table (even though you have a reservation), there is no baby chair. They constantly bring the order we did not give to the table, their internal coordination is very poor. The food and atmosphere were really nice but it was our last breakfast. Never go back..

Quite disappointing experience. We had 2 vegan soboro with miso soup (20euro each) and even though it tasted ok, it was mostly rice (90% of the bowl) with 2 pieces of roasted pumpkin and a few other veggies + minced soy. I’d pay max 6e for a bowl like this. The presentation was so sad. I was also confused about the interior, on the page and in some photos it looked very magical and fairy tale like place with a loooot of light inside while it was quite dark and crumped in reality. I chose this place for interior design and Japanese lunch but both were simply not served as expected. The cherry on top was lady seated next to us who decided to listen to all her whatsapp messages with maximum volume. Very disturbing. Service was nice though but won’t come back.

My family and I have come back to this restaurant two years in a row and say it’s one of the highlights for us when we come to Berlin. We all got the eggs Benedict and shared a French toast which was way more than enough food. They also have a cute patio setup with blankets which just adds to the cozy feeling of the restaurant. If you’re in Berlin definitely check this place out!

Every time i visit Berlin i always stop by this place. The food is always amazing and the atmosphere is great.

It’s super cozy, but not as big as you see it in the picture. The service is good. They pay attention to you. The matcha latte was really good high quality matcha. The breakfast was ok, I loved the salad aside a lot. It’s not crowded ( we went on a Monday afternoon). Don’t expect it to be big and spacious. Also a bit loud, since the tables are close to each other.

We enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. The dishes are generous and delicious!! We recommend this little place in the middle of Berlin. The service is impeccable and efficient!! Thanks to the team ❤️

Great food as I love Japanese food and have been to Japan - authentic

My husband and I visited for brunch and were pleased. We made reservations on a Saturday and were seated right away. The food was amazing. Especially my husband's french toast. The coffee was weak and the service was extremely slow. Even the tables around us were constantly searching for their server. The restroom is a hike from the main dining area and you need a code for the door (FYI). The food makes up for everything though. The fusion of flavors are quite unique if that's what you're in to.

Unfortunately we will not back. First time was good, but second time we ate crispy and dry food. We was hungry and doesn’t has time to go somewhere else. Service is so kind. But we are came to eat. They change one portion and ignore, that we had two portions. However we paid and ordered other food which was also dry. Everything taste just like bread.

What a beautiful restaurant with a beautiful courtyard in the Jewish quarter in a historic building; an old girls' school that unfortunately had to close after 8 years due to the war. The students and teachers were deported to camps very sadly. It was difficult to make a choice. We were there for lunch. The sweet and savory dishes on the menu all looked tasty and special. We ended up ordering the miso honey mustard ribs, udon carbonara, pork cheese katsu and kakuni don. For dessert we shared the croissant french toast, ricotta hotcakes and crème brûlée. The service was good. Tip: book in advance. We had to wait half an hour.

I come here every time I'm in Berlin. The building is a former Jewish girls school and there's a display honouring its history. I found it touching. On a sunny day, the courtyard seating is particularly pleasant. The brunch options are incredible. The first time I came, I ordered the croissant French Toast and it was life changing. But one of their current specials is Japanese milk bread French toast and I had to try it - crisp on the outside and so fluffy inside. The mascarpone and fruit jam on top was just the right amount of sweet. Lovely savoury options too. The gratin is so rich and delicious.

Disappointing and overrated Unfortunately, the “House of Small Wonder” did not meet my expectations. The much-lauded matcha latte was of very poor quality – bitter and watery. The avocado dish was also disappointing: black spots on the fruit are simply unacceptable, especially at the prices quoted. Overall, the price-performance ratio here is not right at all. Definitely not a second time for me.

My favourite brunch place in Berlin. I've been going here for a few years now. My top picks are the Mimosa (no one does it as well as these folks!) and the Vegan Soboro. The service is also fantastic. If you're in luck, you might get a table despite not having a reservation, but I'd definitely recommend a reservation. They get quite full in the summer. Great outdoor seating in the summer too!

We came for the combination of food and atmosphere, however the location has changed so the interior atmosphere is not as dreamy and bright as it was before. So please remove the photos with the staircase which is from the previous location as it is a different place now. In addition there is no telephone so we had to come here to check if there is availability at that time. We had to wait for 1 hour so we chose another place.

Breakfast at House of Small Wonder was amazing — we had Croque Madame, Biscuit Benedict, and croissants (plain & almond), all super tasty, with a really unique and cozy atmosphere.

Solo eso me pareció una pérdida de tiempo, pero aún así decidí quedarme y pedir otra cosa. Lo que siguió fue aún peor: mientras mi acompañante recibía su comida y terminaba de comer, nunca recibí mi comida en absoluto. Seguí esperando, pregunté al personal, y me dijeron que “venía”. Nunca lo hizo. Finalmente, tuve que decir que nos íbamos. Y en lugar de una disculpa adecuada o cualquier preocupación real por la situación, el camarero casualmente trajo la cuenta y me propuso cobrar la mitad de precio por un plato que NUNCA recibí. Sin propiedad, sin empatía, solo un gesto hueco para cerrar la pestaña. El lugar puede parecer encantador, pero la realidad es un mal servicio, desorganización y cero hospitalidad. Una experiencia profundamente decepcionante. Definitivamente no vale la pena el bombo.

The atmosphere inside was cozy and inviting, with both the food and service being excellent. We visited for breakfast and had hoped to sit outside, but the rain kept us from enjoying the garden. We’ll definitely try again on a sunny summer day. The place also looks very charming and appealing for an evening event.

Very nice restaurant/café, nicely and sweetly decorated. However, the Cesar salad is not recommended because the leaves are huge and not bite-sized, so I don't want to have to use a knife when making the salad. Croc Madame and croissant French toast were great, but the scrambled eggs were a bit too watery.

I was quite disappointed by the very small portion of sea bass, served without rice or any kind of presentation—just wrapped in aluminum foil. I had expected something more refined, not his kind of minimalism.

Found this place on Google with high ratings, but it turned out to be quite disappointing. They don’t seem to know how to make proper toast, it should be crispy, not soft. €18.50 for a croque madame, and if you want just a small portion of vegetables on the side, it’s an extra €2.50. We paid nearly €80 for 3 people, and nothing really tasted good. If you care more about nicely presented plates than actual flavor, this might be the place for you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend it.

A true hidden gem in Berlin! Went there for brunch and had absolutely delicious Biscuit Benedicts—unforgettable. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. The staff is incredibly attentive, friendly, and accommodating, which makes the experience even better.

If you don't know that you can eat well here, you're unlikely to find this beautiful place. Delicious Japanese fusion cuisine. My favorite is still Okinawa Taco Rice 🤩 Be sure to reserve.

Not to be missed in Berlin, the food is excellent and the place is wonderful

The avocado smash and croissant French toast were delicious. The cappuccino was average, and the matcha latte was unfortunately the worst in all of Berlin. There was no Wi-Fi. The staff was inexperienced. The space was extremely loud and cramped. For our second coffee, we were asked to go to the next room, which was still empty. I won't be coming back.

We chose the restaurant because of its lovely courtyard. Our drink order was taken after 20 minutes, after we asked for it. The food was nicely presented but relatively small for the price (salad and avocado bread around €18) and not particularly seasoned. The waiters also didn't speak German, which led to confusion when ordering. It was okay, but we honestly expected more.

The Good: - nice interior - menu has a nice variety - friendly service - some dishes are quite good, remind somewhat of a Japanese Izakaya but with a twist The Bad: - for the quality food is just too expensive ( A katsu witout any sides is 18 Euros 🤨) it was decent but its not a steak. - unable to bring a pet ( waiter said I can bring my 25 KG dog in a cage if I want) House of Small Wonders is a cozy spot with some decent options, but price/quality are unfortunately an issue for me.

Nice interior and staff but the food was simply overpriced and disappointing. The gratin tasted and looked more like fried mashed potatoes. The rest was just nothing special. The matcha was of poor quality and I honest don’t get why you still have to pay extra for oat milk. Unfortunately can’t recommend.

In the evening the restaurant offers an izakaya style menu. The prices are quite steep for small portions of food meant for sharing. We ended up ordering one dish each from the "carbs" section. I was here several years ago (2020?) and the menu has changed drastically. I preferred the old menu with more main options. The food back then was good and today it was good too but i don't think i will come back again.

We enjoyed our brunch in this place. Actually chat gpt proposed this place and we decided to try it. The staff was very nice and polite and we stayed pleased with the service. The food was nice. We loved the tomato soup and the eggs. The bacon biscuits were ok. I put 4/5 stars for the food which was nice but not the price. Other than that I recommend this place!

Very good food! I went to have brunch, I tried the avocado toast and the French toast. Both dishes are very good and quite large. I also ordered a matcha, very good, it was not extremely sweet like they do in other places.

One of the best brunch spots in Mitte. The quality of every dish is super high and justifies the price. Eggs benedict on homemade brioche with potato crouton is a must. Beside breakfast options they serve lunch and cakes as well. The staff is kind. Make sure you have a booking for the outside terrace.

The food selection is excellent, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The only aspect that could be improved is the coffee, which was just average.

It's a Japanese-style restaurant, so it's not Japanese food. The chitin nanban was delicious with the yuzu and pepper, but it wasn't sweet and spicy, so it was something else. The rice that was served was frozen and was left outside. I wanted to eat some warm rice. The brunch set looked delicious.

House of Small Wonder in Berlin is absolutely incredible! I loved it so much that I went twice despite only being in the city for a week. Their Eggs Benedict is to die for, hands down the best biscuits I’ve ever had, and the gratin dauphinois was amazing. The place itself is beautiful, with a fantastic menu full of great vegetarian options. On top of that, the staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. Definitely one of my favorite memories from Berlin!

You can eat Japanese pork cutlet and katsudon. It may be disappointing to think that the taste is as good as that of Japan or Korea, but I am satisfied with this level of Japanese tonkatsu in Berlin! Since it is Japanese food, the price is between 20-30 euros for tonkatsu. There was a bit of a wait. You can register on the waiting list and go somewhere else for a while. Cards are available.

We arrived at 2 p.m. and asked at reception for a table for 3 children and 3 adults. We were told it was now time for work. Everything closed. A family came in before us and another couple came in behind us. Unfortunately I can't rate the ambience and food. Next time I would like a “Hello” and not directly, we finish work at 2 p.m. even though it says 5 p.m. online. Thank you and never again!

I was really looking forward to a good Eggs Benedict, but this place completely missed the mark. The hollandaise sauce was overwhelmed with vinegar, making it almost inedible. Instead of a rich, creamy texture, all I could taste was sharp acidity. The eggs themselves were just okay, but the sauce ruined the entire dish. Definitely not worth the price, and I won’t be coming back.

Delicious breakfasts and drinks are served here. When it comes to dishes, it is difficult to choose one; they offer interesting and unique flavor combinations. The premises have a unique, alternative atmosphere. It is worth reserving a table in advance and checking the prices before visiting the restaurant as they are higher than other breakfast restaurants.

Wonderful café with unique charm! We had a great visit to the House of Small Wonder on Auguststrasse! The espresso martini was absolutely delicious – perfectly balanced and a real highlight. We were particularly impressed by the ambience: super cozy, with great attention to detail and an authentic, inviting atmosphere. A perfect place to relax and enjoy.

It's such a lovely place! The atmosphere and the ambiance are my favorite parts of the restaurant. The service was very friendly and very attentive! I like that the menu is a mix of brunch and asian options. Had miso soup with rice and ricotta pancakes, both were incredible!!
