Hotel - Restaurant Il David in Königsfeld im Schwarzwald

A family-run hotel with an attached restaurant that always strives to accommodate guests' wishes and needs. We had to check in later due to a train delay, which was easily accommodated. Our rooms were comfortably furnished and very clean. We were allowed to stay longer at breakfast, and it was no problem getting a Coke in the restaurant to enjoy on the terrace in the sunshine. We'd love to come back!

Good service and excellent food, large selection and top value for money

We visited this restaurant today and wanted a drink and my girlfriend a meal. The waitress then pointed out that both people had to eat something. We were perplexed and surprised. We've never experienced anything like it before. We then left Il David and went to a restaurant where you can also just have a drink. Two more customers lost.

Very delicious Italian food! We stayed here twice, several years apart (!) – the last time we had a really nice room, and a few years ago we had a rather worn-out room; perhaps everything has been renovated in the meantime.

Hotel in a quiet location. Excellent welcome and hospitality. Having visited years ago on business trips, it lived up to expectations with exquisite dishes. For those who like it, a tip: you must try the green pepper fillet with Gorgonzola cream 😋.

The hotel is very good. Great value for money. The breakfast was very good. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with the restaurant. The owner doesn't want guests in the restaurant who only want drinks. We were a mixed group, and I had a pizza. The owner greeted us so unfriendly and behaved in a generally unacceptable manner. Guests at the neighboring table were also surprised by this unacceptable behavior.

We were there for dinner. The value was above the price => excellent food. Top-notch service.

We ate in the restaurant only but several times for lunch. Every time it was superb as we had the special lunch menu which is very reasonably priced and super tasty. I love their tomato soup. This is high quality dining and super friendly service. Nice terrace if you want to eat outside.

Extremely unfriendly! If the owner has personal problems, he shouldn't take them out on his guests. Definitely the wrong profession. Hospitality looks different! Our friends who arrived the day before us were also given an unfriendly welcome. So it's probably not our fault. We don't have great expectations and are completely normal people and don't need special treatment. And even though we travel a lot to hotels, we've never experienced anything like this. Conclusion: not recommended

The restaurant and hotel is a wonderful Italian paradise in the heart of the Black Forest! "Come as a guest, leave as a friend" - that's what it says in an advertisement for Il David. And that's exactly how it feels for us. It's not just a saying, it's lived there! From the moment we check in, we are always given such a warm welcome and are looked after throughout our entire stay! Daniele runs Il David with a lot of passion, and you can tell how much the entire team enjoys working there and taking care of their guests! The food is excellent, as is the service, and what makes Il David so special for us are the very warm people who work there! The food is so delicious, the entire team is very quick and friendly, and everything is perfectly organized! Special requests are never a problem. Even when everything is fully booked, the service is always very prompt, and the food arrives very promptly. We spent New Year's Eve there again, and it was another wonderful evening! The New Year's Eve menu was delicious and very creative, and we're glad we tried something new! The team put so much effort into preparing a wonderful evening for everyone! Thank you so much for that, and also for the explanations and background information about the menu! Since I often stay at Il David and always eat there, I've already tried so many things from the menu. My absolute favorite dish is the "Scampi alle Veneziana" and the wonderfully varied fish platter. We've had fish platters at other restaurants, too. But at Il David, it's particularly rich, with scallops, scampi, sea bream, squid, swordfish, and salmon. We've never had such a delicious and plentiful fish platter anywhere else! Everything is absolutely fresh, the portions are always very generous, and the value for money is excellent. The salads are delicious, as are the desserts. My favorite dessert is the "Black & White," a chocolate tart with a liquid center. It tastes wonderfully chocolatey, and I've noticed that it doesn't taste as good in other restaurants. There's also a great outdoor terrace! The breakfast buffet is also very good and varied, so there's something for everyone. I especially love the always-fresh fruit salad! If something's missing, it's quickly delivered or freshly prepared, like the scrambled eggs. On Sundays, they even have sparkling wine and salmon. They recently added a new juice machine. All of the rooms were completely renovated a few years ago. They are cozy and lovingly furnished, the bed is very comfortable, and it's always very quiet. The bathroom has a great shower, and some rooms also have a bidet. Each room has a balcony. Everything is always very clean. Last year, the outdoor area was redesigned, and there's now wheelchair access to the restaurant. You should always reserve a table, though, as Il David is often fully booked and there are many regulars. Thank you very much, dear Daniele and Maria, and to the entire team led by Heike and Rainer! We recently stayed at this hotel while attending my partner’s daughter’s wedding. My partner had arranged for many family members to stay here, and the first two days of our visit were quite enjoyable. The breakfast staff were friendly, and although our room was small, it was clean and comfortable. However, the experience on the day of the wedding left us extremely disappointed. The groom’s parents arrived and wished to go straight to their room to freshen up. Unfortunately, they had inadvertently left their IDs at the groom’s home. The father offered to return immediately to retrieve them and politely asked if his wife could access the room in the meantime to take a quick shower. While it's completely understandable that ID verification is standard hotel policy, the hotel owner’s response was shockingly rude, aggressive, and unaccommodating. Despite calmly explaining that multiple rooms had been booked under our party, and that IDs would be provided shortly, the owner flatly refused and became increasingly hostile. After a heated exchange—during which he even threatened to evict all of our guests if we continued to press the issue—he finally handed over the key. This behavior was completely unacceptable, especially given the circumstances and the fact that we had booked multiple rooms for the occasion. What should have been a joyful day was marred by the owner's hostility and lack of empathy. I generally only leave positive reviews, but in this case, I feel it’s important for future guests to be aware of this experience. No one should be treated with such disrespect, especially during a family celebration.

What makes a good innkeeper? In my opinion, they should be friendly and polite and responsive to their guests' needs. Their behavior should be such that they feel comfortable. Keyword: "hospitality." They should be able to listen if you have a special request,... Maybe I'm wrong in my expectations, but when you're loudly made to feel like a petty criminal just because you don't have the accompanying person's ID at hand and have to get it first, and checking in beforehand isn't possible, that was really weird. I understand the regulations and absolutely understand that everything has to be correct, but a friendly welcome certainly looks different! Thank goodness we met so many nice and friendly people during our stay in the Black Forest that this unpleasant reception at the hotel was an absolute exception. As a frequent traveler, I've never had to experience anything like this! We will definitely not plan another stay at this hotel!!!

We dined there in April 2025 with a group of six friends from Königsfeld. Despite the restaurant being fully booked, the hospitality and service were beyond reproach. Even two (calm) dogs were no problem in this situation. The various Italian dishes served at the table were all excellent and received unqualified praise. We will eat there again on our next visit.

Yes, very good Italian cuisine. I ate a pizza. It was great and I recommend it.

A complete disappointment – ​​unfortunately not "la dolce vita" We were really looking forward to a cozy lunch with authentic Italian food – but what I experienced at this restaurant was anything but a taste of Italy. And we didn't even enter the restaurant because we were treated so arrogantly, rudely, and unfriendly on the phone that we literally lost our appetite. Italian hospitality is world-famous: cordial, warm, and familiar. There wasn't even a hint of that here. They probably didn't need it. The food may be okay. Ultimately, I don't care; it would be almost impossible to enjoy it under these circumstances anyway. Good food also thrives on the ambiance – and that was completely ruined here by the cold, almost hostile staff. Conclusion: If you're looking for Italian warmth, you've come to the wrong place. The restaurant lacks exactly what defines a true Italian: humanity, warmth, and the joy of serving guests. Unfortunately, a place I will neither recommend nor ever visit.

Our absolute favorite restaurant!

Delicious food at reasonable prices, friendly staff, and a lovely terrace in the summer. Rooms are always clean, bright, and all have balconies.

A "host" with heart and soul. Even ordering from the chef creates a wonderful atmosphere; you immediately feel at home and receive very competent, unobtrusive, and attentive advice. We were a group of women, tried a variety of dishes, and were all absolutely thrilled with the cuisine! Unfortunately, I was only in the area for a visit. I would be happy if there were such a great restaurant in our area! That's true hospitality! The guest rooms are also modern and lovingly furnished with everything you need. I slept wonderfully, despite my usual sleeplessness! The breakfast also leaves nothing to be desired.

I can only review the restaurant. The food was good, but the service was a disaster and a disgrace. We often left without drinks, and when one of us came back later and didn't want anything else to eat, he was rather rudely told that this wasn't possible. Had they known he was only going for a drink, he would have immediately said that it wasn't possible. There were eight of us in total, some of whom ate three courses, and that's not how you treat guests, even if they only had three drinks. Some of the orders were also awful. An impossible evening...

One of our favorite restaurants in the area - always a pleasure. Gluten-free is no problem either, the operators know everything. Never had a problem so far.

Was there for dinner with my mother on March 20, 2025. Since my mother only ordered tomato soup, the service staff told her that that wasn't possible and that she had to order a main course. After 10 minutes the boss came and said that my mother had blocked a €30 spot for him. But now he's making another exception. How pathetic and discriminatory is that? It couldn't be more disgusting or worse. Absolute “no go”

We ate at the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the staff was courteous. Excellent value for money. We recommend reserving a table in advance.

The online photos make the rooms look very high-quality, but when you get there, everything is very cramped and cluttered with unnecessary furniture (a stool in front of the bed). The doorknob is so loose that you're afraid of holding it in your hand when you pull the door harder. The glued carpets in the hotel hallway are all loose and therefore pose tripping hazards. At dinner in the attached restaurant, service is a foreign concept to the very young staff (not attentive, preferring to be preoccupied with their phones). The dishes are neither particularly cleverly presented nor do they taste very good. A pumpkin soup listed on the menu was apparently made only with potatoes and was practically inedible. At least we weren't charged for it.

Il David in Königsfeld is a true gem among Italian restaurants. The service is warm and very personal. The food and wine list are excellent! I'd be happy to return anytime!

A very nice hotel that we can only recommend! The room was very nicely furnished, the bed was extremely comfortable (with electric height adjustment). There was also a balcony, but we didn't use it at this time of year. Only the TV was a bit small, but it didn't bother us. The bathroom was very modern and probably recently renovated with many amenities such as a large shower with rain shower, two sinks, and an illuminated mirror. The room and the whole house were very clean. The breakfast left nothing to be desired - a large selection of coffee specialties and juices, delicious rolls and pastries, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit salad, lovingly arranged platters. We also ate in the restaurant - very nice service staff and very tasty pizza. If we come to the area again, we will be happy to be guests here again!😀

Unreliable: after I received my reservation confirmation via a portal, my overnight stay was canceled. Cancellations seem to be standard here: after I asked the receptionist about my incident, she told me that cancellations due to overbooking were a common occurrence for her and that this was completely normal. Well, thank you very much too…

Cozy Italian with a good range of dishes. Unfortunately, the pizza oven was broken at the time of the visit, but this was pointed out immediately. The service is attentive and the food was quickly there and tasted. It's certainly not for higher demands, but it's certainly not a bad option for Königsfeld every now and then

Bedienung unfreundlich, schon zu Beginn ein unfreundlicher Hinweis, dass eine Pizza nicht mit einer zweiten Person geteilt werden kann...nach dem (guten) Essen eine Bestellung v. Kaffe und Weizen vergessen, nach Hinweis geliefert und um 19:45 wurden wir rausgeworfen indem man das Licht ausschaltet. Auf der Karte und Homepage steht Sonntag bis 20 Uhr geöffnet!!! So konnte das zu spät gelieferte Bier nicht ausgetrieben werden. Entsprechend war die Stimmung hin. Ach ja: Pizza Calzone (13€) und 2 grosse Cola = 27,90€. Leider zu spät gemerkt bei dem Ärger Fazit: Nicht zu empfehlen, es nützt nichts wenn die Pizza gut ist aber der Rest nicht stimmt!!!! Nie wieder!!!

Nice, clean room. Offer and quality in the restaurant are above average. The service there was actually extremely friendly. A small downer: Check-in is only possible from 5:30 p.m. After a journey of around 4 hours, which was a little quicker than planned, I waited with other travelers on the terrace in front of the entrance door for it to open. At around 5:30 p.m. the lady in charge finally arrived, but her first reaction - instead of a greeting - was simply that she didn't think it was okay that we just sat down at a table like that... After all, she wouldn't either Entering strangers’ “living rooms” without being asked. I found this way of welcoming paying guests very strange. Even after the lady finally realized that we were all guests of her house who just had to wait a little while, there was no friendly gesture or apology for the inappropriate appearance. More unnecessary and misplaced “wisdom” followed. Due to the lack of alternatives locally, I stayed anyway. But I kindly ask for your understanding: despite all the empathy required for perhaps explainable animosities or personal negative experiences, “snubbing guests” is still an absolute “no-go”. Actually a “golden rule” for every service provider. Unless you are not dependent on new customers. But a little kindness would actually have been enough.

12 years ago I often went to eat at Il David Königsfeld (even in larger groups of 6-10 people). Now repeated again, and I'm still always impressed by the quality of the food :-) Very creatively designed inside, and the outside terrace is also a very inviting place :-) I can't say anything about the hotel, but if you're in the mood for good food If you have one, be sure to stop by ❣

Here you are thoroughly pampered by everyone. ..the food and drinks are in perfect balance with the place. Here you can truly recharge in the silence of the black forest and in all its entertainment from golf to horse riding to walks and spas... simply exciting

I stayed there way back in 2001 and this hotel and place remained in my heart. And the beautiful forest with the squirrels that came eating out of your hand. A paradise. And the kitchen is the owners all ok.

Went to the restaurant for dinner. The food was really delicious 😋. My son, 5 years old, loved the Pesto Walnut pasta. Reservation is needed, and this place is always full. The location is really nice and you can play chess at nearby park 😉

The kitchen supposedly closes at 8 p.m., but by 7:45 p.m. you can't get anything to eat, not even a pizza to go. Directly in front of us, another guest came out of the restaurant with a pizza box. Won't go here again.

Wij aten er tweemaal in één week. De Pizza Marinara was van een heerlijke, nog niet eerder genoten zachte smaak. De gegrilde lamskoteletten mals en bereid met rozemarijn, zoals thuis. Op de salade bij de koteletten zat helaas een plens saladesaus. Puntje van verbetering misschien. Il David schenkt het bittere aperitief Cynar en dat kan, samen met een karafje water, bijzonder goed dienen ter vervanging van het obligate glas bier. Vrouw en zoon waren goed spreken over hun Carpaccio, spaghetti Bolognese en uitzonderlijk lekker pizzabrood met groene knoflook. De voorkomende, vriendelijke bediening en schone toiletten dragen bij tot een volmaakte restaurantervaring. Il David is beslist een omweg waard.

Very well-kept hotel, recently renovated modern rooms, particular attention to furnishings and details such as author's paintings in almost the entire hotel. The cuisine meets the most varied needs (vegetarians and vegans). I highly recommend it.

Nice location, friendly staff! Had lunch there today with two couples we were friends with. We had three very tasty pizzas, a very tasty asparagus dish, rocket salad, carpaccio and an Il David salad. We enjoyed everything very much (5 stars 🌟). Very clever: The espresso came with a “lid” so that it stays nice and hot ;-)

Nice rooms, very clean and newly renovated...even though the single rooms are very small and only have a 1.20 m bed.

Vorsicht bei der Buchung im Hotel. Genau die sehr teuren Stornokosten des Hotels beachten. Wer vielleicht leise Protest gegen diese unhaltbaren Kosten einlegt, wird vom Hotelier am Telefon übel beschimpft. Völlig unprofessionell. Bei telefonischer Buchung fragen Sie nach den Stornokosten. Bei online Buchung achten Sie darauf, dass Sie eine Bestätigung bekommen. Nur buchen, wenn Sie absolut sicher sind, dass Sie fahren können. Würde gerne mit Freunden dort öfter hinfahren, aber nach den Erfahrungen lasse ich das.

Be careful when booking. Read carefully the very expensive cancellation costs of the hotel. Anyone who might quietly protest against these untenable conditions will be insulted badly by the hotelier on the phone. Completely unprofessional. If you book by telephone, ask about the cancellation costs. When booking online, make sure you receive a confirmation. Only book if you are absolutely sure you can drive.

We were there to eat, there was a daily menu, the Friday menu was tomato soup, followed by zander fillet with baked potatoes for the price of 12.50 euros. It tasted very good, the lady served us in a really friendly way and we would love to come back

We have been coming to Königsfeld regularly for several years to spend our holidays here. We love the restaurant and the hotel and are now regular guests! A few years ago all rooms were completely renovated. They are cozy and lovingly furnished, the bed is very comfortable and it is always very quiet there. The bathroom has a great shower and some rooms also have a bidet in the bathroom. Every room has a balcony. Everything is very clean. The breakfast is also very good and filling, and there is something for every taste. I especially love the fresh fruit salad. If something is missing, it will be delivered quickly or freshly prepared, such as scrambled eggs. There's even salmon and champagne on Sundays! When we are there, we also regularly eat at Il David. The food is excellent, always freshly prepared and the price-performance ratio is absolutely right. The whole team is very fast and friendly and everything is well organized! Even when everything is full, the service is always very fast and the food comes very quickly. I always notice that other restaurants can't keep up with Il David and we haven't found anything comparable in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. You can tell the owner and his team like to look after their guests and they all do it in such a wonderfully warm manner. We always feel wonderfully welcome and cared for! But you should always reserve a table because Il David is often fully booked. Rating only for restaurant (we were not hotel guests) Friendly, fast service! Lunch so-so. But also quickly! I found the scent sticks positioned everywhere and at the maximum to be unpleasant, as they dominated the (artificial) room scent even while I was eating :-( A pity.

Very very simple breakfast and simple room

So far the food has been mostly ok. This time I chose the vegan rice menu, never again. Rice with vegetables, most likely frozen, no taste, no seasoning, nothing. Only edible with parmesan, salt, pepper and olive oil. There is 100 percent room for improvement. The boss was very unfriendly, we actually wanted a few starters and no main menu. However, this was rejected on the grounds that it had already been taken into account. With the planned starters they would have made more sales with us. Then the smell in the entrance area and downstairs including the plumbing is a real disgrace. What should be covered up here? The mixture of arrogance, bad service, strong smells and bad food didn't really make the evening a success.

As always, a quiet and pleasant overnight stay and the breakfast is lavish and has everything you would like

We were there after a funeral. As soon as we entered we were greeted unfriendly. My husband, who wasn't very hungry, was only reluctant to order a starter as a main course. Our children also had to order a pizza each; a robber's plate was not possible. As expected, more than half of both children remained. The seats were super close together. Food was ok, but the service definitely needs improvement.

Also der Service war wirklich super…Aber das Essen ziemlich mager für den Preis…Der Koch war definitiv nicht verliebt… Es waren zu wenig Beilage und in der Championsosse fast keine Championos. Aber der Salatdressing war Spitze. Also für die Preise leider ungenügend.

Schöne Pizzeria mit sehr freundlichem Ober Grazie

Wir waren zum ersten Mal hier, da wir in der Vergangenheit sehr unterschiedliche Meinungen zum Il David bekommen haben. Mal sollte sich aber immer seine eigene Meinung bilden. Alle Gerichte die wir bekommen haben, Vorspeise, Pasta und Pizza waren ausgezeichnet. Ich würde sagen, dass es in unserer Gegend einer der besten italienischen Restaurants ist. Die Paste könnte selbstgemacht sein. Wir hatten unter anderen eine Pizza mit Kürbis und Burrata welche von der Ssison Karte war. Bitte macht weiter so, wir kommen gern wieder.

War jetzt zweimal im Restaurant. Das erste Mal eine Pizza und einen Beilagensalat bestellt. Beides sehr lecker, die Pizza ist riesig und war wirklich gut belegt. Beim zweiten Mal Dreierlei Nudeln überbacken bestellt. War absolut nicht mein Geschmack und habe die Hälfte des Gericht zurückgehen lassen.

Owner was very polite to me when I checked in. Would be nice if there was a washing machine in the building for guests to use. There are no options in town to clean your clothes outside of nornal work hours. There is a laundromat 45 minutes away that is open on Saturday

Ein sehr gemütliches kleines Hotel mit Restaurant essen ist sehr gut nur das mit dem Fernseher auf dem Zimmer ist etwas kompliziert. Das Frühstück ist üppig und lecker. Also alles in allem empfehlenswert.

Nach einem ereignisreichen Tag im Schwarzwald ist ein schönes Abendessen ein wunderbarer Abschluss. Es scheint nicht nur Teil der Deko zu sein, die Kunst zu leben und zu essen (ars vivendi) zu zelebrieren, sondern es ist die Philosophie des Hauses. Das Ambiente ist sehr stilvoll, die Bedienung sehr freundlich und angenehm unaufdringlich, und der Chef des Hauses aufmerksam, sympathisch und zuvorkommend. Die Speisen schmecken hervorragend, und der Knaller des Abendessen für mich zumindest war eine große, leere Flasche Grappa (3 Liter Inhalt), die ich für meine Terrasse in Thüringen mit Solar-Licht und anderen hübschen Dingen upcyclen werde. Vielen Dank nochmals dafür. Beim nächsten Besuch in Königsfeld bei unserer Tochter werden wir wieder hier einkehren,weil wir gern Wiederholungstäter sind, wenn's so toll war.
