Hotel Deutsche Eiche in München

The best Regenbogen Hotel if you want to stay in Munich's city center! The location is fantastic, the staff super friendly, and the food is amazing; everything is delicious and fresh. Rooms are well-maintained and the bathrooms are always clean. Parking (discounted underground parking or parking garage) is available for booking, which I highly recommend. I'd definitely stay at the Deutsche Eiche again!

I went to the hotel for breakfast, and the food was delicious made even better by the outstanding service. A special thanks to Stefano for his warm hospitality. He speaks both Spanish and English perfectly, which made our experience much smoother and more enjoyable as we were and international group.

I only visited the bathhouse and highly recommend it. The staff was great and friendly, and everything was clean and in order.

The breakfast was incredible and Stefano service was optimal and well explained. I love the cozy environment inside the place and the light around the tables. The options for the breakfast buffet was very good and with variety. I’ll come back for sure

I visited the Sauna Deutsche Eiche, located on the first floor with a entrance that you must first buzz to enter. The sauna is located on four floors, with the cashier at the front desk who gives you a locker key and towel, with the option of renting slippers -- if you'd like them. The basement is large and labrythian with an enclosed dark area for more clandestine activities. There are showers, a sauna, and large steam room on the third floor. The fourth floor holds a small TV room and rest area with lounge deck chairs. At the bar-restaurant you can purchase complete meals, snacks, and a wide assortment of drinks and German beers. I find the sauna at Hotel Deutsche Eichi to be a friendly, well maintained and generally a good deal for the relative low price ((20-22 euros).it’s my home away from home while visiting Munich. It’s conveniently two about 3 short block from the vast open lair market, Vitxxxxx

Cute, very well located hotel. Lovable staff and plenty of cute dogs. They cater in particular to gay men, so be warned ladies - the bathrooms don’t have a lot of storage and there is “one soap for all things” in the showers. Rooftop terrace bar is a big plus, especially in nice weather. Free beer and prosecco with the room, and the pillows are the best hotel pillows of my life. (NOT the overstuffed neck killers you usually get). Our biggest complaint was that the a/c didn’t get our room as icy as we’d like (and the lack of bathroom/shower storage/surfaces). The gelato place nextdoor is another bonus!

As always, a solid, high-quality overnight stay not far from Gärtnerplatz. Room rates have been significantly increased. Having a morning coffee around the corner at Viktualienmarkt before the daytime visitors arrive is simply special.

This hotel must have been comfortable in the past, but it's falling into disrepair due to a lack of modern standards: 1) air conditioning that works but is so sluggish that it doesn't cool the room; 2) no blackout curtains, no USB port at the bedside, and no kettle/coffee maker; 3) very, very slow and sluggish elevator; 4) no parking or advice on the need to buy a green sticker if you're driving; 5) expensive and mediocre brasserie (disappointing breakfast). In short, a rainbow flag doesn't exempt you from providing quality service. Poor value for money.

Top restaurant - top roof terrace and super nice and friendly staff in all areas - I like being there

Great place, great location walkable to almost everywhere and easy access to public transportation. Staff is very friendly. Rooms are large with comfortable beds. Mini bar includes complimentary water, beers and Coca Cola.

Great Service & Rooftop Experience, Even Without a Stay Although we had a last-minute cancellation and weren’t able to stay at Hotel Deutsche Eiche, the staff was incredibly kind and offered us a drink voucher for their beautiful rooftop terrace — a generous gesture that didn’t go unnoticed. The rooftop has a relaxed atmosphere with great views of the city. You can order food from the restaurant on the first floor and bring it up to enjoy. It’s a great option whether or not you're staying at the hotel. The location is about a 17-minute walk to most major attractions, which is very manageable. The area may feel a little rough on first impression, but it’s quite central and convenient once you settle in. Note: The elevator is small, which might be something to consider if you have a lot of luggage. Overall, very impressed with the friendly service and flexibility, even though our plans changed!

Beautiful Hotel Restaurant and also beautiful Gay sauna known for decades and we even have access to the restaurant menu served at the sauna bar until 11 p.m. and top staff

This was a really comfortable place to stay. I had a single room for three nights. Check in was quick and friendly. The receptionist spoke perfect English (all that time on Duolingo wasted!!) and explained about the mini bar free refill and cafes to check out near by. The room was on the fourth floor, very quiet, clean with strong aircon. The place is not new but it’s solidly built and perfectly maintained. Would happily stay again.

I have never stayed at the hotel, but I did an excellent tour of the ‘famous’ sauna and had cocktails in the roof and the food is also very good at the restaurant.

I highly recommend a visit, as well as a guided tour with Dietmar Holzapfel. You not only see the sauna, but you also hear a lot of stories and history. Very informative, I'm thrilled and would definitely come back.

We had a great stay at Hotel Deutsche Eiche! The check-in process was quick, and although we had to wait a few minutes for our room to be ready, it wasn’t long at all—maybe 5 minutes max. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Our room was extremely clean, modern, and came with a lovely balcony that gave us a nice little view. The only downside was the parking situation—it was quite tough to find a spot nearby. We ended up parking just under a kilometer away, which was manageable but not ideal, especially after a long day of travel. Overall though, the experience was really positive and we’d definitely consider staying here again!

I can't comment on the hotel, as I didn't use it, but the rooftop terrace is quite possibly the most relaxing in all of Munich. The restaurant's exquisite and impeccably prepared food can also be enjoyed up here. While enjoying a cool drink, you can gaze out over the rooftops of Munich or the Alps, creating a little oasis of your own, surrounded by friendly people and great, attentive service.

Not happy with a room on the other side of the street. But apart from that, the hotel still is my happy place in München.

The best sauna I've been to so far, clean, big, and crowded after Pride

I absolutely loved my stay at the Deutsche Eiche. This was my first visit to Munich, and I learned about the hotel and it's history while doing my pre-trip research. I knew I had to stay there after reading and watching several YouTube videos. Everything was great from check-in to check-out. The physical facility of the hotel is excellent; very clean and well-maintained. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and they were happy to hold my luggage for me while I waited for my room to be ready (I arrived on a very early flight). My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bed was nice and firm, and the shower had excellent water pressure. I needed all of this as a jet-lagged traveler! (I also really appreciated the light-blocking shutters that, combined with the curtains, left the room completely dark!) The complimentary mini-bar was also a nice touch, one you frankly don't see anywhere. The hotel's other facilities were just as nice. The restaurant is cozy and has great food. The rooftop terrace serves great drinks with a view of the city that can't be beat. And the sauna...well, I'll leave that to your imagination! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the price also could hardly have been better. Four nights for under 1,000€, including breakfast, in the busy summer season for a hotel located within easy walking distance of major sightseeing spots and bars & restaurants? Yes, please! All in all, I can't recommend the Deutsche Eiche enough. It was a fabulous "welcome to Munich," and I'll definitely be back the next time I visit the city. Thank you to the owners and staff for such a great experience!

The most beautiful views over the city on the wonderful roof terrace

My party of six has three rooms in this hotel. It has colorful hotel lighting (with light-up glass sinks, an HDMI port for my TV Firestick) and gets good daytime sunlight in rooms. Located in Munich Downtown ten-minute walk to Glockenspiel (Marienplatz) or the famous Höfbrauhaus. Nice bar and tables for congregating on the hotel top floor. Free bottled drinks in the room refrigerators: Cokes, waters, and beers--one is non-alcoholic. Desk workers, waiters, and cooks are all gender-sexuality accepting, friendly, and quite personable: a great casual and professional experience. Floors 1 and 2 (above the ground floor in Europe) share one elevator, as does Floor 3 with 4.

A good inn with friendly, attentive service. Very tasty food. The highlight, however, is the view from the roof terrace, and if you're lucky, the owner will explain everything. A large men's sauna. A wide range of services.

We received a warm welcome at the reception, and there follows free cheese sausage plate as well as complimentary mini bar at room. Great location, the room is a bit old but clean. Highly recommend!

Very central, the restaurant is typically Bavarian with a little bit of modernity. The food is on average better quality than a famous beer house and costs a little less. The waiters are very kind. The beer is normal for Munich.

Lovely, small hotel with a great restaurant and bar. Lively, but not a party hotel. It was a bit hard to control the temperature in the room. Location was just perfect. Happy pride!

We only went to the restaurant. We've never experienced that in any other Munich restaurant. Instead of fries, we ordered potato salad (same price) and paid a €1.20 change to the side order. We won't be eating here again. There are plenty of Bavarian restaurants in the city center.

Rooftop terrace: We've been coming to the rooftop terrace regularly for years, and unfortunately, the service is getting worse. For example, despite being assigned a table, we waited 20 minutes for the waiter to come back for our order. Depending on where you sit, you generally have to make an effort to make sure the waiter sees your signal if you want to order something else. Two people for service should be more than sufficient, even if everything is full. Paying is a disaster 50% of the time, because there are no table numbers, so you often end up with drinks from the next table on the bill, or sometimes you simply end up with too few. However, this is always rectified without much fuss. Despite everything, we will, of course, continue to be regular guests ;-)

The hotel has a great location and is cutely designed. The staff at reception, kitchen and bar are all helpful and friendly. Additional aspect: In my opinion, the hotel's cuisine is very tasty. The rooftop bar is the cherry on the cake to completely cover the positive image. If you would like to criticize something, it would be the elevator, as it is often overcrowded due to the roof terrace, but there is also the sporty option of using the stairs 😊. LG, Dennis

I was in this hotel for the first time with my wife - and I was really impressed: super nice, friendly service, attentive service, sparkling clean room and a perfect location for us. Always again on your next trip to Munich.

Cult restaurant with a spectacular past in the Gärtnerviertel. You can still feel the charm of the wild days. We just had a quick drink. The service staff was extremely nice.

Sauna. I'm referring specifically to the sauna. This is my third time here (I bought a 10 ticket straight away). The first impression is very good. Very clean for a gay sauna. Some small weak points here and there, but it's ok. The sauna is spread over 3 floors, which is a bit confusing, but still good. The outside area could be a little more open so that you have enough fresh air. The cupboard key sits badly on the arm. Too loose, too much strumming. A sensible attachment would be desirable. The food isn't exactly cheap and you won't find any little things to eat. Unfortunately, the currywurst with fries is not very good. Unfortunately it depends on the fat used. The sauna entrance fee was increased in 2024. I think the pain threshold has been reached. In terms of furnishings, everything seems quite modern and solid. Well attended and partly interesting audience. For me, overall worth recommending, but with a bit of room for improvement. EDIT. Some time has passed since then and a lot has been renewed and renovated. But the garden chairs in the smoking area, although new, are very uncomfortable. People no longer enjoy sitting in an armchair as much as they used to. This then also has a negative impact on the sauna's sales, as I e.g. Even then I buy fewer drinks!

Good service, clean and fully furnished room, walking distance to the city center. However, the area gets busy in the evening and is not very quiet.

We have been to the rooftop bar several times now. It offers a great view over Munich. On weekends you may have to wait a bit until there is a place upstairs. We passed the time with a coffee in the restaurant downstairs. I think it's great that the drinks are also available non-alcoholic, even though that's not on the menu.

I often go to the gay sauna in Deutsche Eiche. It's all friendly staff and relax in the sauna. But the sauna is supposed to be converted into a Finnish sauna, I'm curious to see what the Finnish sauna will look like (finished after the conversion). Price is satisfied.

We went to the roof terrace for drinks and generally had a very good time there. The prices are fair, the view is great and the heaters make it easy to stay there even in cool temperatures. Only the reception on the ground floor, Nic to name the problem, is really something to get used to. How one can be so nasty towards incoming guests is a mystery to me and therefore not a good figurehead.

Very unfriendly staff at the reception, we were waiting for a place on the terrace and he got upset because I wanted to wait in front of the reception and he said that there is no better regular guest than the others, something that I didn't imply at all. It's a shame, I really loved the terrace but I will never come back.

This hotel blew me away with its charm. I had booked a hotel in another part of the city, which upon arrival was not what I was hoping for. I searched for a new hotel, and found Deutsche Eiche, made a same day booking and boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. My room was a single room, which was surprisingly spacious and comfortable. The boutique style curtains and lighting finishes really gave a plush and comfortable feel. Room mini bar is free, breakfast included in the price and a complimentary drink on the rooftop bar sweetened the deal. The room has cute touches, like a sewing kit and enclosed shoe sponge, vanity kit and wash cloth. The restaurant is lovely with a great breakfast and good atmosphere.

We were on the tour. And it was absolutely wonderful. Thank you again for that. Really great location.

It was my first time ever going to mens only sauna. I Would say it really Was great and relaxing. Since, munich(München) is full of tourist the langauge was no problem everyone spoke english. I tired the food in restaurant and more. Everything was awesome from dark room , steam, jacuzzi, even smoking room but for someone who prefer water over beer for drinking i suggest u to at least take a bottle of water with u and keep in locker for emergencies coz heading all the way down and buying water is tiring sometime.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms and location were great. Unfortunately, the person handling breakfast was rude and unprofessional. I provided my room number, but he insisted breakfast wasn’t included, despite having paid for it. After asking him to confirm with reception, he returned with the same response. I then went to reception myself and found out that, due to an upgrade, he didn’t have my breakfast listed. This wasted 15 minutes, which was crucial as i had to leave for work, I only had 1 croissant and a coffee. Errors can happen, but courtesy is essential—I don’t want to start my day dealing with a rude, unhelpful person!

Brilliant, flamboyant vibe at the breakfast . Very clean room. Only criticism, for 20 the breakfast is not worth it I'd say. But they give a free coffee and Brezel, which I opted for instead of paying the breakfast. Also three free drinks in Minibar per day!

We stayed there this month. It was a wonderful hotel in every way. The cleanliness was excellent, the location was great, and the staff were excellent and friendly. I recommend it to everyone.

The German Oak roof terrace is a beautiful spot to linger and enjoy the breathtaking views. The staff was mostly very nice and accommodating, but unfortunately there was one exception: a small Italian who seemed to have little interest in taking care of the guests and simply ignored us. That was a bit disappointing. However, the furniture is very cheap and uncomfortable - it feels more like a café where you're not supposed to stay for long. It's a shame because the terrace otherwise offers a great ambience. Unfortunately, a big negative point was the amount of smoke. There was a lot of smoking and since the awning was closed due to the weather, the smoke didn't come out, which made the stay quite unpleasant. In my opinion, a ban on smoking in closed rooms should be introduced here. Still, we could come back in the summer when the roof is open and it doesn't smell like smoke. The view and ambience are just too beautiful to write off entirely!

Honest Bavarian cuisine. Excellent value for money for Munich city center. Staff and owner very nice and friendly. We always feel like we are in very good hands there. Likewise my elderly parents.

I stayed in a suite with my parents and it was comfortable. I liked how thorough the security was! First of all I would like to praise the reception staff. When we were unable to open the door due to a mistake in the middle of the night, they kindly walked out and solved the problem :) Parking is available in a separate building and I think it was about 20 euros. I'll come again~

I was recently with my family at the restaurant, and the food was excellent, very grateful to the Venezuelan who very happily gave us very good recommendations, including key points of the city.

Simply WOW. I wouldn't know where to start. At the reception, a kindness beyond all expectations, an impeccable welcome. They kept our backpacks for hours before check-in without asking for a penny. Perfect hotel location a stone's throw from the Viktualienmarkt, without the noise of the city but still super central, with the tram stop 30 seconds away. Large room, new, exceptionally clean, warm, quiet and equipped with EVERY comfort. Rooftop bar a real gem! I would say unbeatable value for money. We will return to Munich which is our heart city and now also to our heart hotel: Deutsche Eiche. We will make a regular stop here when we are in town. Thanks for everything and see you next time!

Our family of 3 stayed for one night at the Hotel Deutsche Eiche during a stopover in Munich. The location was fabulous, easily walkable to public transit, old town attractions, and tons of shops and restaurants. The room was comfortable and cozy. We ate at the restaurant and appreciated the complementary glass of prosecco provided with our reservation. Best of all, the staff were fantastic - when I got to the airport, I realized I had left my passport in the room, and they quickly arranged for a taxi to bring it to me so I was able to catch my flight and make it home!

Extremly cozy hotel in the lovely heart of Munich. Typical bavarian food, super clean and enjoyable rooms, friendly and heartfelt service and people. Freddy Mercury used to keep company there for breakfast and lunch during his famous time in Munich during the eighties. You have to step by at least for breakfast, a coffee or delicious meal, even if you do not look for an accommodation. A rooftop terrace with a extraordinarily wonderful view over Munich rounds up this fantastic experience. The owners are extremely friendly and courteous people, open for a tald and some friendly words. One of my favorite locations in Munich!

The service today on the roof terrace was unbelievable. 30 minutes of empty glasses, we asked him three times that we would like to drink something else, but he didn't come and didn't become unfriendly. There were only a handful of tables occupied! If you don't feel like it, it's better to look for another job. Great location, wonderful room and service.

A house full of contradictions. Praise is certainly appropriate, because the employees go out of their way to look after every guest. Let's get to the criticism. Supposedly every consumption of illegal substances is reported - but of COURSE this is not possible and so the warning signs hang on every door as decoration. The cleaning regulations are certainly not implemented in the way they are prescribed for bathhouses in Germany; there are many slimy, mossy corners that are probably even home to the odd mold. Sure, it's not easy with such a diverse, complex audience - but certain regulations have to be adhered to everywhere... especially when it comes to sensitive topics like hygiene and cleanliness. Personally, I am absolutely certain that the wet rooms are not being cleaned properly, which is extremely difficult given the age of the house and the basement. A simple rule that employees don't like to adhere to is the legal requirement to ban the consumption of alcohol during working hours. Overall, the company's performance gives a somewhat crazy impression. I very much hope that the conditions of the sauna operation will improve, because I know how quickly carelessness can turn into major problems. I personally experienced the closure of a swimming pool, simply because the regulations of the public order office were not adhered to. Good luck, you “tea” drinkers.

Very good location, walking distance to many tourist spots. Friendly and helpful staff (danke Lucas), provide discounted public carpark (€15 for 24hrs) 2 minutes drive from hotel. Bedroom is clean, spacious and modern, plenty of free beers in minibar. It would be perfect IF there's a kettle.

If you are looking for a great location and economical price, this is a great place. But I STRONGLY recommend that you do your research thoroughly before coming and do not keep your expectations high.

I was back at Deutsche Eiche at the beginning of November and as always everything was perfect. Yes, it has its price but I'm happy to pay for the location. A stone's throw from Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz and yet very quiet. The rooms are great and, when the weather is good, the roof terrace is a highlight. My special thanks go to Philipp at the reception. He was my savior in dire need.

We were there in person three days before a dinner and ordered a table for two people in the restaurant. It was also stated and entered in front of our eyes with the reservation in the tablet that we would like to eat St. Martin's goose. Arrived on time for the appointment, suddenly there was no reservation for us. After a lot of discussion, we still got a small table. The announcement when we ordered the first drinks was: but Martinsgans is out. We opened the restaurant on November 11th. so leave without having accomplished anything. We were suddenly informed that they had found out that we had canceled our reservation ourselves by telephone at lunchtime. What nonsense! I don't cancel at lunchtime, I go there on time in the evening and ask myself where my reservation is. Unfortunately, there was no regret, understanding or attempt at apology from the restaurant staff. Very disappointing and poor service. I note again: We have NOT canceled the appointment. The caller's name was probably missed or misunderstood by the restaurant when canceling. In this respect, the fault lies with the restaurant and not with us. There was no sign of any further concessions that evening. Statements like: "We are very sorry. There must be a misunderstanding. How can we solve this together..." were never heard.

Munich can be proud of its German acorn. You have to keep it well. But chefs should receive egg training. Some people probably don't know what hard eggs are.
