Hokkaido Running Sushi Restaurant in Kassel

We used to go there before wheb n it was called, Tokyo Running Sushi. Now. It's way better in all the ways imaginable. The buffet was incredibly tasty and spiced perfectly. The warm and cold running dishes were very tasty. Will go there again and again and again.

The sushi tasted like it was 3 days old then went to Rewe to get sushi and it was better...

Reserved a table today, we drive for an hour and then find ourselves in front of a locked door. You could have at least canceled it. I think it's the very last thing.

This restaurant is no longer worth visiting. The buffet wasn't refilled for over an hour (it was completely empty), and there were only things on the sushi conveyor that were already dried out and had probably been doing the rounds for a while. No fresh sushi, no kimchi, no desserts. Mostly just fries and nuggets. You then pay 60 euros per couple with just one drink. Never again.

In short, friendly staff. If you're feeling hungry quickly and easily, you can eat out here. Anyone expecting excellent sushi here will be disappointed.

Unfortunately one of the worst sushi restaurants in Kassel. Three different types of sushi only add variation through different toppings. Unfortunately the hot food was cold. Also the buffet, dried sauces, cold noodles - you could stir and take from the bottom as you wanted - it wasn't warm. Unfortunately, every euro here is clearly far too much. Once and clearly never again.

The restaurant really should be ashamed of themselves. We and 20-30 other people reserved a table and everything was occupied. They have accepted twice as many reservations as they have spaces. Simply outrageous.

The food is okay, no new food is put on the conveyor belt after 8 p.m.

It was a great restaurant when it was last owned, but today it's just an imposition. Hardly any sushi rolls on the production line for a whole 2 hours and they probably don't even know sweet and sour. The food on tape was a joke despite the store being full. No cutlery available, hardly any mussels and the ones that were there weren't scrubbed clean properly before cooking. No ice cream, no cake, just food on tape, which hardly anyone wanted, poor selection. Zero comparison to the previous owner!!!

Never again! A catastrophic experience. Despite a reservation, no table will be assigned to you. Staff totally incompetent and rude. Communication underground. Service outrageous. Stay away from this shed! I can only advise everyone to give it a wide berth! ;)

Warning! I've never experienced anything so bad. I don't normally write reviews, but what I experienced here today is bottomless. It's a shame there aren't 0 stars. Cooking is available from Friday to Sunday until 5 p.m. I was there around 2:30 p.m. At first I was ignored. When I ordered my drink 15 minutes later I was told "it will be refilled soon" and pointed to the tape. 40 minutes later, wasabi and edamame continued to make their rounds. In between, a (pardon) really disgusting sushi with tuna that tasted pungently like canned tuna. Out of desperation, I reached for the “frying floor”. Bah. Here only 80% finished products that were cold. One step further in desperation, I went to the buffet. There weren't even any plates left here. The rice was dried out, the dishes were empty, the sauces were disgustingly dried out. Then, out of desperation (level 5), I had a few baked bananas and 3 chocolate kisses. Ice cream came later. 4 balls. There were about 20 guests there. 🤣 Hungry and with a twisted stomach, I paid 24 euros for two drinks. This operator will never see me again and I will warn everyone I know! Never again!

We reserved a table online 4 days ago. When we stood in front of the restaurant at 6 p.m. yesterday evening and had previously received several confirmation messages via email and SMS, a few other guests were already there waiting. A note on the door said that the restaurant had to remain closed the day before due to technical reasons. We waited about 15 minutes and then called the restaurant's phone number. However, only the mailbox was answered. We drove over 40 km to test the restaurant and were bitterly disappointed. A rejection by phone or email would have been nice, or at least no confirmation messages. Luckily, Kassel has plenty of other sushi restaurants that are more reliable.

We were there at lunchtime. There was runnigsushi and an additional buffet. Everything was really tasty, even there was dessert. The service was also very nice, thank you very much.

Drove here for 45 minutes only to find the sign in front of the door saying “closed for technical reasons”, while the restaurant was shown as open on Google and you could even reserve a table. Great class

Food was super delicious. Because delicious food and small portions are constantly passing by, the potential for overeating is very high. At least I was terribly, terribly full. 😅 The service was also good. Very nice and friendly. Ambiance was okay. I somehow imagined it would be more spectacular. But that's more my fault than the restaurant's fault. 🤷‍♀️😅 We'll definitely go back.👍

Delicious sushi with Asian buffet.

NOT recommended!! a) the food was bad (at lunchtime). We're certainly not picky. But the soup was inedible, the sushi was dried out and the selection at the buffet was: duck, rice, noodles and a few pre-cooked foods. b) we had a voucher from the gourmet block. Statement from business: “Only valid at the more expensive evening rate!” But it doesn't say so in the voucher and according to the store, the problem has existed for years. Apparently intended to attract people. I was there last time! Then it's better to go to the competition.

Overall tasty, but with the running sushi the warm food (above) was only lukewarm and the cold food (below) was unfortunately also lukewarm. It shouldn't and shouldn't be like that. The overall selection of treadmills was rather mediocre and you had to wait a long time until the same category came along again. We couldn't really understand some of the creations (sushi with salmon on top and a mustard sauce on top?! —> WHY?) Staff is nice and friendly. Price wise also okay. The chairs like in the photo (red) are no longer available. There are now very uncomfortable wooden or bamboo chairs there.

The operator's children scream and howl in the restaurant until your ears fall off. It was even too loud for my children. The food is of the standard that you can probably eat in 15 places in Kassel. The last time for me.

After three years now: I was there with my children. Unfortunately the food is more than cheaply produced. If you want spring rolls with vegetables from the bag. Sweet bananas with chocolate as sushi, chicken rolled up with dough or on a skewer and ready-made cake roll, on a sushi band... you've come to the right place. It's a shame compared to three years ago.

The new wooden chairs are very uncomfortable because they are not upholstered and are also very loud when you stand up and are also a bit too low for the tables. The food was a disaster on Friday evening (November 30th)! Dried seaweed salad, dried maki sushi so I have no idea how long it's been going around, a lot of fried stuff on top, these lobster crabs with heads completely overcooked so inedible, baked banana with honey, but unfortunately without honey... and then 25€ for that! That was very annoying. The last visit was better but I think things have only gotten worse since the operator changed. I even didn't use my stamp card because I can't fill it up because we rarely eat there anymore. I think I'll give it another chance because once it's bad, that can happen.

The restaurant offers very good value for money. The dishes and the ambience are very clean and for this price I think the restaurant is really excellent. The food is replenished quickly and is always fresh. Plus, it's right in the city center, which is very convenient. Therefore I can definitely recommend it.

I was at this sushi restaurant on Friday. The food was fresh and tasted great. It would be better if the atmosphere was a bit expensive.

We went to the lunch buffet this afternoon. Since we haven't heard much good lately, we went there without any expectations. All I can say is the food was great. The selection of sushi was diverse. Everything was super fresh. The tape was constantly being replenished. The warm buffet was also fresh and appealing and tasted very good. The waitress was very friendly and the service was good. Overall, the tables were clean and already set before we arrived. I can only recommend it.

I've been in Hokkaido off and on for many years. I would really like to give more stars, but unfortunately I've been a bit disappointed since my last meal there :(. The dishes are OK, but definitely nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, especially lately, the food seems pretty sad. You rarely find fresh fish in sushi, almost everything only contains surimi + veggies (apart from the nigiri). But I would definitely like something with fresh tuna. The California Rolls also contain tomatoes and a fat layer of rice - that's not for me, but everyone has their own taste. But the service is nice. But the highlight was that another insect (maybe even several) ran over the sushi conveyor belt and then disappeared underneath it again. For a spontaneous meal, it's okay if you don't have high expectations of the sushi and don't mind a little insect protein.

We were there recently with friends and family, there was something for everyone - children, people who don't like fish and also vegetarians. The food was varied, fresh and tasty. The prices are completely fair, especially at lunchtime and if you're hungry. 
The service was top - and when the team found out why we were there, they quickly got a bouquet of flowers and a gift, which was a really great, touching surprise. 
I've been there many times myself and haven't found any reason not to continue doing so. I would probably eat “real sushi” somewhere else, but for the Running Sushi event it’s just very, very nice here.

After a few years, we had dinner at Running Sushi with five people. First of all, at least no one got sick. But there is no relationship between price and performance. 24.90 p.p. The food is not worth it for the dinner buffet/running sushi. Sure, an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet always has a bit of a trashy character, but sometimes we feel like it, even the treadmill thing, and we didn't remember it being that bad (it was actually a few years ago). Back then it was also a little cheaper). - The buffet was typical buffet Chinese restaurant selection and quality. Nothing special. - Running Sushi, the upper "warm" floor contained various fried things such as spring rolls, wontons, baked bananas, shrimp, croquettes and even French fries (I've never understood why Asian restaurants have to have fries), mostly lukewarm at most the same thing over and over again. The lower floor had cold things like sushi, fruit, ice cream etc. The selection of sushi in particular was really disappointing, basically always the same thing garnished with different, brightly colored balls. For example, in the 1.5 hours I only saw two/three different types of simple maki and nigiri, and some of them didn't even look particularly fresh. Plates of the same stuff like seaweed salad, then meters of nothing. No more sesame balls, no fried ice cream, no more chocolate fountain, always the same plates with the same things, some of which have been doing the rounds for a long time. The drinks are of course quite expensive, as with all all-you-can eat restaurants. But here too the quality was rather mediocre. I've never had such a bad friend in my life. Just nothing. The service tried hard, but after a while we had to draw his attention to us as we walked past to order more drinks. Whether everything is OK Nobody asked what was/is. We had much better memories of the restaurant from 5 years ago and earlier. If the meal had been 12.50 or 15.50 euros per person I wouldn't have said anything about the cost, but for an average of around 32 euros per person. including drinks, it should at least taste good and with a running sushi there should actually be a lot of sushi on the treadmill. For the money, it's better to go to a real sushi restaurant or to a Vietnamese place around the corner, there is much better food for the money. I like to spend a lot of money on good food, but the price/performance ratio just doesn't match here, we certainly won't go there again.

Absolutely disappointing! The Running Sushi Restaurant is far too expensive for what is on offer. The selection was extremely limited and the few foods that were available didn't seem fresh and even the foods that were supposed to be hot were cold. In addition, the restaurant as a whole was very unkempt - dirty tables and an unhygienic atmosphere made the visit even more unpleasant. One table was so cluttered with bills or other paperwork. For this price you definitely expect more quality and cleanliness. Unfortunately, absolutely not recommended!

Unfortunately I'm very disappointed with this one Restaurant. A few years ago (until 2017) we were there several times and we always liked it. I had lunch there yesterday and unfortunately the quality of the food was very poor. The vegetable rice in the buffet was dry and hard, as if it had simply been kept warm for days. The food on the conveyor belt was mainly fried bites (fries, chicken nuggets, squid rings). The sushi selection was more than modest. Unfortunately there was no vegetarian sushi (avocado and cucumber) like before and I didn't even dare to try the fish sushi anymore after the disappointment in the taste. The price (16.99 euros) was absolutely not justified and I will no longer visit the restaurant. Clearly NOT a recommendation.

We were in Hokkaido on September 14th, 2024. The staff are very friendly. The food is worth every penny, it's delicious. The ambience of Hokkaido is very beautiful. When we are back in Kassel, we will definitely go to Hokkaido to eat again. If I could, I would give more than 5 🌟.

The many bad reviews since the change of ownership have surprised us quite a bit. Since then we have been there both at lunchtime and in the evening and have always been very satisfied. It has always been like this that the buffet cools down over time. The last time we went was today for lunch and we were very impressed. New furniture, the chairs are bigger and you no longer sit like a monkey on the grindstone if you are a little fatter, new dishes on the production line, spicy chicken parts, etc. The dishes that would hardly be eaten are like red crabs and mussels no longer on the tape. Unfortunately, the sushi is no longer as varied as it used to be, but it's better to put less than throw away so much.

Went there for dinner in the evening. The restaurant wasn't very busy. The sushi looked like it had been going in circles all day. Only sometimes something fresh. Exactly the same picture at the buffet. For almost €60 for 2 adults & 1 child I expected a little more

We went there again after 2 years and found it okay, but would choose another restaurant soon. The food on the line could be much more varied, especially the sushi.

We were there at the beginning of opening hours and the food was okay. Since we were there for a very long time, we were able to observe wonderfully how the food never ran out. The salmon became drier with each round, the salad sadder with each round. In general you could just see the food becoming inedible. I then ordered a cocktail and got an orange juice with a dash of syrup that hadn't even been stirred. A few tables behind us, an employee picked at some meat and threw it into a warming container. At first I thought this was private for her since she also used her teeth to help. However, it would then be put on the buffet (luckily it wasn't our turn)

This doesn't taste like sushi. It's not sushi either. More of a “sushi illusion”. Tastes like plastic, feels like plastic – maybe it used to be plastic? An experience of a lifetime that I would not wish on any enemy. It's better to spend a few euros more on real sushi or become a sushi samurai yourself. Too bad, I wasn't expecting Michelin sushi, but this was beyond good and bad (and edible). The "sushi" rice is actually just sad, unseasoned, regular rice, and the fish... well, the fish has about as much flavor and texture as an old pencil eraser. Conclusion: Stay away and save your taste buds!

This restaurant was recommended to me and my children ate there in March 2024 and it was probably good. Yesterday, June 24th, 2024, I was there with my colleagues and it was a disaster. 😡 It wasn't a buffet, it was more like leftover food, everything cold, hard and dry. Based on the selection, we understand something different by buffet. Treadmill everything was the same, ice cream was liquid like soup, fries cold, everything dry...few parts you could eat. The top of the drinking glass was torn. A cocktail with 5 different exotic juices was offered, but you were given perfectly normal orange juice without fruit. When asked, it was said that it couldn't be possible, all varieties were included, served with a syrup. And that should be declared on the menu if it was served with syrup instead of fruit juice. Even that can't be the case, you just have it only tasted orange juice. Food wasn't refilled either, upon request, yes it was done straight away. After half an hour and still nothing happened, we went to ask again. The staff then became rude and seemed annoyed. There were 10 guests on site at lunchtime, and we basically had to share the rest of what was edible. So something so outrageous doesn't deserve more than negative reviews. That's a disgrace 😡😡😡😡😡😡

A few days ago, we sat down at a table in a group of two. With no expectations, we were surprised to find ourself locked in the restaurant since the owner keeps the doors shut. We had to ask for a restroom key like in a gas station, sadly the sushi wasn't much better than gas station sushi either. The runway which it get's distributed to the guests on was only rarely filled with ice cream, chicken nuggets, french fries and algae. The salmon smelled and tasted like it was from yesterday, there were no mochi which I was hoping for the most. Also I recommend an unfriendlier customer service. The whole experience was bad but it wasn't horrible enough to be funny, this needs improvement! Maybe start serving currywurst with the fries. +4 Stars because the weather was very nice and the chicken nuggets were tasty.

Once and never again, pure disappointment. We assumed that a restaurant that has been around for a long time should actually be okay, but that wasn't the case here. Some of the sushi is very unsightly and doesn't taste good, and the service and friendliness of the staff are also second-rate. On evenings that I spent alone in front of the TV, I had sushi from Lidl or the gas station that was much better quality than what I got here when we visited. The sad thing is, we went to a sushi restaurant and at the end of the evening we ate chicken nuggets and fortune cookies from the buffet for a lot of money. For the same money I can get sushi of the highest quality a few hundred meters away, with sufficient portions and first-class taste. Hokkaido doesn't get any recommendations from me and the store won't see us again.

I can only agree with the preliminary criticism. I have been to the restaurant several times and have now noticed that the quality of the food has deteriorated significantly. On the upper band there are small spring rolls in all geometric shapes on what feels like half of the plates. The rest tends between chips and indefinable fried foods. There are some good Maki offers on the lower band, but, as already mentioned in the previous recession, they are hardly refilled after around 8:30 p.m. Unfortunately, many Uramaki are decorated with artificial-looking neon decorations - I have no idea what it is. And the “icing on the cake”: there is mayonnaise on many of the offerings! I wonder what she's doing there. During an hour's stay, you actually come across several plates again and again, and you have the feeling of wanting to make friends with some of the scampi that are offered and sadly drive by. Regarding the service itself: when an employee comes to the table, they are actually very courteous and friendly. The belt has only rotated once until this happens. It just takes too long. And yes: the rolling computer control is a nice gimmick. Oh well. At least with the drinks it's quicker. All in all, the quality was better. The service is okay and the ambience is good. I wish for the good old days again. There used to be more tinsel.

The operator would rather sit at the table with his colleagues with a bottle of schnapps or wine than take care of his customers. The robot that brings you drinks is a nice gimmick but unfortunately nothing more. Unfortunately the food is not justified for the price, even though this restaurant is not expensive.

CAUTION!!! We had dinner there yesterday (April 5th, 2024) around 12 p.m. and both got extreme nausea and chills towards the evening. This continues to this day and is something I have never experienced before. I can only advise everyone not to eat there and hope that the health department will check this.

We haven't been here for a very long time. We were initially concerned because of one or two bad reviews here. But we are very pleasantly surprised. Food looks fresh and tastes good too. Maybe that's because yesterday was a rest day and today the food was freshly prepared. Or we were just lucky. As I said, we can only report positively from here.

Middle class sushi. Some things on the treadmill are visually unsightly and dried out. Differences in fish quality. Large selection to try, especially for sushi beginners. Wide range, also for children.

Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Three adults had dinner there. It seemed to us as if the leftovers from the lunch special were being put on tape again. There used to be a lot more choice. For example, the duck meat from the buffet was dried out. In the past there were salty shrimps on skewers, sesame balls or fried squid. The offer has been greatly reduced and the prices have risen steeply. We're never going there again. There are better restaurants. How it works with the drinks. The answer: Yes, brother! You can just take it and then you have to order drinks. Well, good and nice. Ordered drinks and they came relatively quickly. Let's get to the food: On the cold line: Sushi that has certainly already made more than one round on the production line. Sometimes you were afraid to take some because you were afraid that you would come across the sushi a second time that night. When the shushi once looked presentable, it was dry and any slight touch would cause it to fall apart. On the warm line: Everything is just fried. Everything tasted old and as if the fat hadn't been changed in a while. At the same time, some of it was no longer identifiable. What wasn't fried definitely had better days.
