Green Papaya in Hamburg

We ate at Green Papaya in the evening during the week and it was very busy. The service seemed very overwhelmed and had major problems with the bill, regardless of whether it was cash or card. The food was ok, but I've eaten much better in the branch on Stephansplatz. There were also optical savings. We probably won't come back.

Food/drinks are delicious, although unfortunately my tuna was overcooked today. Service extremely nice and attentive. Ambiance when the restaurant is full is far too loud because there are probably just too many tables.

There were six of us and all of us were really completely satisfied! Large portions, juicy meat, good tofu & crunchy vegetables - simply delicious! My friend said this was the best beef he's ever ordered at an Asian restaurant. The atmosphere was also great, you could have a good chat. And the service was friendly and attentive :).

So far I've only ever been there at lunchtime. The portions are large, the main courses cost from €10 (including lunch). I can recommend the red curry, the Vietnam bowl and the summer rolls. Everyone is very friendly, really loves children and you can order quickly and get your food quickly. I always find it delicious and fresh. For children who don't eat everything, you can also order a bowl of rice. The ambience of the store is ok. It's clean, but a bit too dark and cramped for me. But that's also a matter of taste. The toilet can only be reached via a long staircase downstairs. You can't get there with a stroller or wheelchair.

That horrifies me! INDIVIDUALS NOT WANTED!!! Last Saturday, coming from a trip, I wanted between 6 and 7 p.m go for something to eat at GREEN PAPAYA. Together with a couple I didn't know, we waited for the person who would assign the tables. When I asked for a table for one person, the employee told me brusquely and coldly: NO, NOT FOR 1 PERSON!! The couple was then led to a table!! This behavior is not only particularly rude, it is also discriminatory!! It clearly indicates that this place is not interested in customers at all, but rather in quick sales. Hospitality is different. U.H

I think most of the food was Vietnamese (which is fine) and not Thai. The tapas menu is really lecker 🤤 und billig. There's a wide variety of Asian food choices and really nice service with a great location, makes it an awesome location for a weekend gateway dinner

At Green Papaya you can prepare for a relaxing evening with good food. The menu is varied and every favorite taste is sure to be catered for. The food is prepared quickly and tastes very good. Scharf traditionally delivers what it promises. The prices are very fair. Overall it is very clean. There is the option to sit inside and outside, but in both cases it is comfortable. The staff is consistently very friendly.

It's worth it!! ADDENDUM 2022 Now what I feared has happened. Sour tofu served twice in a row. The quality is down the drain. Too bad!! In 2024 I gave them another chance and lo and behold, the good quality is there again.

First thing when you walk in, is a warm greeting. The staff are so friendly and add to a lovely experience. The menu is indeed extensive and you have many options to choose from and different spice levels to enjoy. The food was good and portion size was generous. A good spot for a nice dinner.

It was tasty, service was quick. Unfortunately, chairs outside are quite uncomfortable if you have a butt (press on the side).

Very tough meat: so far I have always been very satisfied, especially the tender meat was perfect. But recently it has slowed down significantly. The rib eye steak was half fat and tendons. The duck (which was offered as crispy) was tough as leather, I couldn't cut it with a knife or chew it with my teeth. There was no sense of crunchiness. I returned the duck and ate my fill of the side dishes. The poularde (chicken curry) was also still red on the inside. If you like meat, this is the wrong place. It's a shame because they used to be good.

Ambience is quite nice, service is quick. But the tables are very close to each other. Entertainment is hard to imagine: very loud. Salad with octopus was inedible. There weren't even napkin stands, salt and pepper shakers on the table. I wanted to leave this place quickly.

Yesterday I had a spontaneous meal with a friend before an event at Green Papaya. When we arrived it was quite dark in the restaurant, but that changed after the employees gradually turned on the floor lamps on the tables. The menus were quite worn out and didn't make the best impression at first glance. The surprise was how lovingly our food was prepared and the quality was really great! At the next event on Osterstraße it is clear where we will eat beforehand.

The service was good and friendly. However, the prices are very high and the food wasn't good. I had the rice noodles with duck (€17.50) and the bowl consisted mainly of rice noodles and very fatty duck meat, with some chopped leaf salad on the side. The price was very high, and the restaurant isn't really nice or decorated with any effort. My sister and I felt sick after eating. I would recommend that the restaurant either increase the quality of the food in line with the prices (fresher, more imaginative and finer) or lower the prices.

Fair value and a nice sit in with friends or family. Especially nice in summer as you can sit outside. Can recommend the sushi plates or Asian tapas. Visited a couple of times now without reservation and they always had a table left.

Our visit was at the beginning of April 2024. We were seated immediately around lunchtime and the food came quickly. Everything was neatly prepared and delicious. Price-performance ratio is okay.

Yesterday we had dinner at Green Papaya again. We have always had good experiences so far. Unfortunately that was different yesterday. We reserved a table online, but that doesn't seem to work. You will receive a confirmation, but that is probably just automatic. Luckily we got a table after all, after all we always had good experiences. My wife really wanted to have another meal with steam; it feels like every other meal now has steam like that. So the special feature disappears a little. But okay, that's fine. Unfortunately, the starter came at the same time as the main course. When we brought this up, all we said was that it didn't say anywhere, that it should come separately. Huh? The tables are really small and we really didn't have much space to eat. Everything that wasn't necessary went onto the floor. The food, the most important thing, was okay, but unfortunately nothing more. It felt better before. Like everywhere else, the prices have skyrocketed, which may also be due to the show effects. Unfortunately, the waitresses were completely listless and we can perhaps count ourselves lucky that we were served the right thing.

Very tasty food, lots of crowds and very popular, so a reservation is essential. Both meat eaters and vegans get their money's worth. The salmon with dry ice is a show because the dry ice "smokes" and the fried silken tofu in sesame is not to be sniffed at either. The prices are not cheap, but still very reasonable.

The restaurant is very stylish and modern. You immediately feel like you have been transported to Asia. The dark colors calm the mood and make you feel comfortable. The outdoor area is also very inviting. The staff is friendly and courteous. As in the main house, the dishes were simply delicious. Both the homemade lemonade and the main courses were a culinary delight. We will definitely come back again.

Come here with the emphasis on pan-Asian in mind. The menu is very extensive, has a lot of dishes, and can be overwhelming. I don't generally trust restaurants with long menus because they tend to be meh trying to do/be too much at once. The most obvious cuisines span from Thai food to Vietnamese food to Japanese food, though it seems to lean more towards Vietnamese. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the food, and it wasn't bad. I had the duck curry dish, and it was actually pretty good. The duck was fried to a nice, crispy texture. The curry part was too mild (not spicy and could use more spices), but the portion was generous and good enough. Would come back.

Die asiatischen Tapas sind zum Wiederkommen gut! Weinkarte ist nicht üppig, aber die Weine sehr trinkbar.

Green Papaya hat mich überzeugt. Schönes Ambiente, gutes Essen. Der Service benötigt noch etwas mehr Pfiff, aber das kann ja trainiert werden. Wir haben Sushi gegessen. Sehr schön angerichtet, große Portionen mit Algensalat, Ingwer und Wasabi. Qualität war sehr gut. Das Preis - Leistungsverhältnis top. Wir hätten gerne noch ein Getränk genommen, aber es wurde kein zweites Mal nachgefragt. Da kann man noch ein wenig zulegen. Ansonsten gerne wieder.

Das Essen war wie immer frisch und lecker. Es kam schnell an. Leider hat der Kellner sehr stark nach Schweiß gestunken, so dass wir das Essen kaum genissen konnten. Wir saßen an dem Tisch hinten, neben die Geschirrűckgabe und somit lief er mehrmals an uns vorbei. Sehr schade, das Restaurant ist eigentlich ganz toll

Das war ein angenehmer Erstbesuch zu zweit, im Prinzip ein Genuss ohne Reue. Eine erfrischende Küche, mit überraschenden Bowls auf der Karte, so vielseitig, dass eigentlich niemand ohne ein WunschEssen bleibt, erfreut sich eines ausgewogenen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnisses. Der Service ist aufmerksam, aber teilweise je nachdem, wer Dienst hat, auch unerfahren… So sollte man nicht bei zwei Personen am Tisch über die noch essende Personen hinweg reichen, um das Gedeck der bereits fertigen Person abzuräumen. Aber wir alle lernen ja noch. Dies sind sehr wohlwollende vier Sterne… Und ein fünfter kann bestimmt noch dazukommen.

Vom Grundprinzip sehr nettes Personal, auch wenn es kurz eine kleine Verwirrung bei der Bestellung gab. Sowohl die Getränke als auch das Essen waren sehr lecker und auch jeweils schnell bei uns und es wurde sich auch mehrfach erkundigt ob alles ok ist. Für meinen persönlichen Geschmack sind die recht modern gestalteten asiatischen Restaurants nicht unbedingt etwas, aber das ist größtenteils persönliche Präferenz. Der einzige Nachteil an sich war am Ende einen Kellner zu finden der abkassiert, da mehrfach von verschiedenen Angestellten gesagt wurde das der Kollege gleich kommt. Allgemein eine sehr angenehme Bewirtung, kommen gerne wieder 🙂👍

Preis Leistungsverhältnis top. Nur waren wir mit 4 Erwachsenen und einem Baby dort, die Platzverhältnisse waren sehr beengt.

Im Nachhinein kann ich leider nur einen Stern vergeben und werde in Zukunft auch nicht mehr wiederkommen. Waren am 03.01.24 mit mehreren Personen zum Abendessen, Tische etwas eng und es riecht extrem nach Toilette, habe in der Vergangenheit immer draußen gesessen, daher war mir dies nicht bewusst. Nachdem man uns mehrfach das falsche Essen servieren wollte, kamen die bestellten Vor- und Hauptspeisen, welche auch lecker aussahen und schmeckten. Leider haben wir alle unabhängig von einander in der Nacht extreme Magen Darm Beschwerden bekommen, welche noch 2 Tage anhielten. Wir haben unterschiedliche Vorspeisen und Hauptgerichte gegessen, leben in unterschiedlichen Haushalten und haben tagsüber nicht die selben Lebensmittel gegessen, durch Zufall am nächsten Tag darüber gesprochen, daher kann es nur vom Abendessen kommen.

Ein schönes Restaurant mit nettem Ambiente. Das Speisenangebot ist breit gefächert und es ist für jeden was dabei. Das Essen kam recht schnell trotz größerer Gruppe (wir waren jedoch auch recht früh da). Auch für Vegetarier bestens geeignet. Der Service war hervorragend, sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Allgemein kann ich Das Restaurant nur empfehlen!

Lecker, lecker, lecker! 😋 Das Essen ist wirklich köstlich und die Auswahl groß. Beim Service ist noch minimal Luft nach oben. Leider wird man von einem leichten Toilettengeruch empfangen, wenn man das Restaurant betritt. Insbesondere mittags, wenn noch nicht so viele Gäste dort sind. Daran lässt sich sicher noch arbeiten.

Essen Top, Service Flop. Tischumsetzungen nach Platzierung teilw. trotz Reservierung, reservierte Tische die der Personenanzahl nicht entsprechen und Essen und Getränke die einem teilweise mit einem sehr unfreundlichen Ausdruck auf den Tisch geknallt werden. Und das ganze nicht nur bei einem Besuch. Ja, gutes Essen, aber so muss es nicht sein, ich gehe woanders hin.

Mit Vorfreude betraten wir das Restaurant und verließen es mit gemischten Gefühlen – drei (freundliche) Sterne sind das Resultat unseres Besuchs, und hier ist der Grund: Zunächst fiel uns an der Eingangstür auf, dass die Preise auf der Speisekarte durchgestrichen waren. Mit dem Hinweis, dass die aktuellen Preise im Lokal zu erfahren seien, betraten wir neugierig das Restaurant. Überraschung! Die Preise hatten seit unserem letzten Besuch deutlich zugelegt. Vielleicht eine inflationäre Entwicklung der kulinarischen Art? Das Servicepersonal schien leider nicht in Bestform zu sein. Die Freundlichkeit, die wir von früheren Besuchen kannten, war diesmal nicht präsent. Vielleicht war das Team satt von all den lobenden Worten der Gäste? Eine gewisse Sättigung kann ja auch bei Servicekräften eintreten. Das entspannte Ambiente, das wir so schätzten, wurde abrupt durch das plötzliche Aufdrehen der Musikanlage gestört. Die Lautstärke zwang alle Gäste in unserer Umgebung dazu, lauter zu sprechen. Auf unsere höfliche Nachfrage beim "DJ" erhielten wir die wenig aufschlussreiche Antwort: "Ist wie vorher" – gefolgt von einer Drehung und einem Rücken, der uns zuwandte. Leider erreichten wir nicht einmal das Stadium des Essens, da das musikalische Drama all unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zog. Fazit: Zwei Sterne, vielleicht gibt es beim nächsten Besuch eine angenehmere Melodie für unser kulinarisches Erlebnis.

Das ist mit abstand das beste asiatische Restaurant. Die Kellner sind so nett zu einem. Mann Bekommt so vill essen. Die Säfte sind so lecker 😋.Der Laden sieht so schön aus .🤩

Quando um ex-proprietário de um restaurante asiático indica onde comer, deve-se acatar e respeitar a indicação, e por isso a escolha pelo Green Papaya. São três filiais em Hamburgo e me faltava conhecer esta, muito bem localizada a três quadras do metrô U2 Osterstrasse. O cardápio de almoço é bastante rico, com opções de sopas e entradas, rolinhos primavera com recheios diferentes, saladas e pratos principais com frango, pato, carne de boi ou tofu para os vegetarianos/veganos. As bebidas são bem criativas e variadas, tudo a um preço bastante justo; não é à toa o restaurante estar sempre cheio entre o meio-dia e as 2 da tarde.

Excellenter Mittagstisch. Habe mich für dem Thunfisch in rotem Curry entschieden und nicht bereut. Tolle Anrichtung, frisches Gemüse, leckerer Fisch und eine excellente Curry Sauce dazu. Komme gerne wieder. Preis-Leistung TOP, sehr zu empfehlen
