Green Papaya in Hamburg

Das Green Papaya ist ein echtes Highlight für Liebhaber der panasiatischen Küche. Die Speisen sind nicht nur geschmacklich sehr gut, sondern auch optisch ein echter Hingucker – perfekt für ein Instagram-Foto! Die Auswahl ist groß, sowohl auf der regulären Karte als auch beim Mittagstisch, der mit einer eigenen Auswahl überrascht. Wir waren schon mehrfach dort – meist begeistert, ein paar Mal hatten wir allerdings auch Pech mit einzelnen Gerichten. Trotzdem kommen wir immer wieder gerne zurück. Die Qualität stimmt, das Ambiente ist lebendig, und die Kellner/innen sind stets freundlich und aufmerksam. Einziger Nachteil: Es ist oft sehr laut, da das Restaurant fast immer voll ist. Deshalb unser Tipp – unbedingt vorher reservieren!

Friendly and quick service, particularly useful at lunchtime. Very large selection of dishes in different versions vegetarian/vegan/fish/meat. Terrace seating in good weather. Nice atmosphere, maybe a little louder.

We came up with something very special for the culinary finale after our last staff meeting this year, namely ordering sushi and other delicacies. The meals delivered were all freshly prepared and, without exception, were enjoyed by all the employees in the children's intensive care unit in the UKE. Thank you!

This renowned Asian restaurant offers exceptional dining experiences. The outdoor seating area creates a pleasant ambiance, especially during the summer months. The staff consistently displays courtesy and hospitality. The culinary offerings are of exceptional quality, featuring a diverse array of delectable dishes. The portions are generously sized, and the pricing is surprisingly reasonable. I highly recommend making reservations in advance, especially during peak dining hours. To our surprise, we were able to secure the last available table without prior booking.

Great service - the staff is very accommodating. The food is excellent and very creatively prepared. I recommend Mixed Sushi 1! We come regularly and are always very satisfied.

2 years ago this place was incredibly tasty, neat, with fast and nice service. Yesterday on March 17th at 4:30 p.m. I was there and said I might have to write/say something about it. The menu is really a spit in the face: the first pages were torn not only by me, but by 3 other people with me (see photo), the menu no longer holds up, and you don't want to touch the tapas menu either. Yes, sometimes there are little quirks, yes it can happen, but if it looks like that, then the management of the branch doesn't care about anything and especially about the guests! Not the first time there was a problem with understanding when ordering... 2 dishes were completely missing, I wanted my dish without an ingredient (which isn't difficult, since Thai basil pesto is only on the edge anyway). Of course the waiters were asked about it but there was no response. We sat directly across from where the dishes were returned, so the waiters were next to us the whole time and yet we still had to pay on the way out because after waiting 20 minutes for a bill nothing came. It's time for me to look for another Vietnamese place again because Green Papaya isn't what it used to be.

Super tasty, I would love to come back. We made reservations in advance on a Saturday afternoon. We had 2 hours at our place, which was enough for us.

A mediocre, noisy restaurant with overwhelmed service. The food was okay, but way too expensive for the price. I ordered fried flat rice noodles with vegetables and the dish came without sauce. The sushi, however, was very tasty and fresh. I'm unlikely to come back.

We ate at Green Papaya in the evening during the week and it was very busy. The service seemed very overwhelmed and had major problems with the bill, regardless of whether it was cash or card. The food was ok, but I've eaten much better in the branch on Stephansplatz. There were also optical savings. We probably won't come back.

Food/drinks are delicious, although unfortunately my tuna was overcooked today. Service extremely nice and attentive. Ambiance when the restaurant is full is far too loud because there are probably just too many tables.

There were six of us and all of us were really completely satisfied! Large portions, juicy meat, good tofu & crunchy vegetables - simply delicious! My friend said this was the best beef he's ever ordered at an Asian restaurant. The atmosphere was also great, you could have a good chat. And the service was friendly and attentive :).

So far I've only ever been there at lunchtime. The portions are large, the main courses cost from €10 (including lunch). I can recommend the red curry, the Vietnam bowl and the summer rolls. Everyone is very friendly, really loves children and you can order quickly and get your food quickly. I always find it delicious and fresh. For children who don't eat everything, you can also order a bowl of rice. The ambience of the store is ok. It's clean, but a bit too dark and cramped for me. But that's also a matter of taste. The toilet can only be reached via a long staircase downstairs. You can't get there with a stroller or wheelchair.

That horrifies me! INDIVIDUALS NOT WANTED!!! Last Saturday, coming from a trip, I wanted between 6 and 7 p.m go for something to eat at GREEN PAPAYA. Together with a couple I didn't know, we waited for the person who would assign the tables. When I asked for a table for one person, the employee told me brusquely and coldly: NO, NOT FOR 1 PERSON!! The couple was then led to a table!! This behavior is not only particularly rude, it is also discriminatory!! It clearly indicates that this place is not interested in customers at all, but rather in quick sales. Hospitality is different. U.H

I think most of the food was Vietnamese (which is fine) and not Thai. The tapas menu is really lecker 🤤 und billig. There's a wide variety of Asian food choices and really nice service with a great location, makes it an awesome location for a weekend gateway dinner

At Green Papaya you can prepare for a relaxing evening with good food. The menu is varied and every favorite taste is sure to be catered for. The food is prepared quickly and tastes very good. Scharf traditionally delivers what it promises. The prices are very fair. Overall it is very clean. There is the option to sit inside and outside, but in both cases it is comfortable. The staff is consistently very friendly.

It's worth it!! ADDENDUM 2022 Now what I feared has happened. Sour tofu served twice in a row. The quality is down the drain. Too bad!! In 2024 I gave them another chance and lo and behold, the good quality is there again.

First thing when you walk in, is a warm greeting. The staff are so friendly and add to a lovely experience. The menu is indeed extensive and you have many options to choose from and different spice levels to enjoy. The food was good and portion size was generous. A good spot for a nice dinner.

It was tasty, service was quick. Unfortunately, chairs outside are quite uncomfortable if you have a butt (press on the side).

Very tough meat: so far I have always been very satisfied, especially the tender meat was perfect. But recently it has slowed down significantly. The rib eye steak was half fat and tendons. The duck (which was offered as crispy) was tough as leather, I couldn't cut it with a knife or chew it with my teeth. There was no sense of crunchiness. I returned the duck and ate my fill of the side dishes. The poularde (chicken curry) was also still red on the inside. If you like meat, this is the wrong place. It's a shame because they used to be good.

Ambience is quite nice, service is quick. But the tables are very close to each other. Entertainment is hard to imagine: very loud. Salad with octopus was inedible. There weren't even napkin stands, salt and pepper shakers on the table. I wanted to leave this place quickly.

Yesterday I had a spontaneous meal with a friend before an event at Green Papaya. When we arrived it was quite dark in the restaurant, but that changed after the employees gradually turned on the floor lamps on the tables. The menus were quite worn out and didn't make the best impression at first glance. The surprise was how lovingly our food was prepared and the quality was really great! At the next event on Osterstraße it is clear where we will eat beforehand.

The service was good and friendly. However, the prices are very high and the food wasn't good. I had the rice noodles with duck (€17.50) and the bowl consisted mainly of rice noodles and very fatty duck meat, with some chopped leaf salad on the side. The price was very high, and the restaurant isn't really nice or decorated with any effort. My sister and I felt sick after eating. I would recommend that the restaurant either increase the quality of the food in line with the prices (fresher, more imaginative and finer) or lower the prices.

Fair value and a nice sit in with friends or family. Especially nice in summer as you can sit outside. Can recommend the sushi plates or Asian tapas. Visited a couple of times now without reservation and they always had a table left.

Our visit was at the beginning of April 2024. We were seated immediately around lunchtime and the food came quickly. Everything was neatly prepared and delicious. Price-performance ratio is okay.

Yesterday we had dinner at Green Papaya again. We have always had good experiences so far. Unfortunately that was different yesterday. We reserved a table online, but that doesn't seem to work. You will receive a confirmation, but that is probably just automatic. Luckily we got a table after all, after all we always had good experiences. My wife really wanted to have another meal with steam; it feels like every other meal now has steam like that. So the special feature disappears a little. But okay, that's fine. Unfortunately, the starter came at the same time as the main course. When we brought this up, all we said was that it didn't say anywhere, that it should come separately. Huh? The tables are really small and we really didn't have much space to eat. Everything that wasn't necessary went onto the floor. The food, the most important thing, was okay, but unfortunately nothing more. It felt better before. Like everywhere else, the prices have skyrocketed, which may also be due to the show effects. Unfortunately, the waitresses were completely listless and we can perhaps count ourselves lucky that we were served the right thing.

Very tasty food, lots of crowds and very popular, so a reservation is essential. Both meat eaters and vegans get their money's worth. The salmon with dry ice is a show because the dry ice "smokes" and the fried silken tofu in sesame is not to be sniffed at either. The prices are not cheap, but still very reasonable.

The restaurant is very stylish and modern. You immediately feel like you have been transported to Asia. The dark colors calm the mood and make you feel comfortable. The outdoor area is also very inviting. The staff is friendly and courteous. As in the main house, the dishes were simply delicious. Both the homemade lemonade and the main courses were a culinary delight. We will definitely come back again.

Come here with the emphasis on pan-Asian in mind. The menu is very extensive, has a lot of dishes, and can be overwhelming. I don't generally trust restaurants with long menus because they tend to be meh trying to do/be too much at once. The most obvious cuisines span from Thai food to Vietnamese food to Japanese food, though it seems to lean more towards Vietnamese. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the food, and it wasn't bad. I had the duck curry dish, and it was actually pretty good. The duck was fried to a nice, crispy texture. The curry part was too mild (not spicy and could use more spices), but the portion was generous and good enough. Would come back.

Были с большой группой, все остались довольны едой. К сожалению мне принесли бокал вина с давно открытой бутылки, чувствалась не свежесть. Персонал слегка ленив и закатывал глаза, когда указывали на ошибку. Но в общем и целом там понравилось.

Green Papaya hat mich überzeugt. Schönes Ambiente, gutes Essen. Der Service benötigt noch etwas mehr Pfiff, aber das kann ja trainiert werden. Wir haben Sushi gegessen. Sehr schön angerichtet, große Portionen mit Algensalat, Ingwer und Wasabi. Qualität war sehr gut. Das Preis - Leistungsverhältnis top. Wir hätten gerne noch ein Getränk genommen, aber es wurde kein zweites Mal nachgefragt. Da kann man noch ein wenig zulegen. Ansonsten gerne wieder.
