Gourmet Tempel in Porta Westfalica

My family and I recently dined at the Gourmet Temple Chinese Buffet in Porta Westfalica with some friends. While the price of €30 per person for an all-you-can-eat buffet, including beverages (even hot and alcoholic), seems like great value, there were some serious deal breakers that made the experience far from enjoyable. The most alarming issue was the presence of shark meat at the live cooking station. Offering this endangered species, which is critical to ocean ecosystems, is not only irresponsible but ethically horrifying. To make matters worse, there was no clear signage warning about this or other exotic meats like kangaroo and alligator. There was no way to avoid this once seated, as drinks had already been opened (from the self-serve fridges), and who examines the entire buffet before sitting down, removing coats, and taking a sip? By that point, you’re committed to the meal and the payment, even if you choose to leave. It felt deceitful and awful to be trapped into supporting such unethical practices. Confusingly, while the buffet offered these exotic meats, most of which do not have the slightest thing to do with Chinese cuisine, the buffet didn’t actually offer properly traditional items like chicken feet, egg drop or wonton soup, or many of the fabulous Chinese vegetable based dishes. Several other issues compounded the disappointment: • A nearly empty, cold rice cooker at peak dinner time. • Duck served without traditional accompaniments like pancakes, green onions, or hoisin sauce. The latter wasn’t available at all, despite being listed on the menu. • Rude and unhelpful staff. One staff member brusquely told us he didn’t speak German and walked off without offering any further assistance (such as maybe asking a colleague to help us instead). • Tongs for the sushi station were seized shut and unusable. • No traditional Chinese soups, minimal noodle options, and an overall rushed atmosphere that felt unsafe—especially for me being pregnant, as I had to move aside to protect my abdomen from RUNNING servers several times. While I would have normally overlooked some service and authenticity gaps given the reasonable price, the inclusion of shark and exotic meats without proper warning, coupled with subpar service and dangerous behavior, made this an overall horrible experience. I won’t be returning, and I’ll be advising others to avoid this place as well. Even my friends, who recommended the restaurant, were shocked by the shark meat and have vowed never to return. A real shame, because it had potential to be so much better. - - - - - - - In German, the restaurant’s local language: Meine Familie und ich haben kürzlich mit Freunden im Gourmet Tempel China Buffet in Porta Westfalica gegessen. Obwohl der Preis von 30 € pro Person für ein All-you-can-eat-Buffet inklusive Getränke (auch heiße und alkoholische) zunächst nach einem guten Angebot klingt, gab es einige schwerwiegende Punkte, die das Erlebnis leider ruiniert haben. Das erschreckendste Problem war das Angebot von Haifleisch an der Live-Cooking-Station. Diese gefährdete Tierart, die für das Ökosystem der Ozeane entscheidend ist, anzubieten, ist nicht nur unverantwortlich, sondern moralisch verwerflich. Noch schlimmer war, dass es keinerlei Hinweise darauf gab, ebenso wenig auf andere exotische Fleischsorten wie Känguru und Alligator. Es gab keine Möglichkeit, dies zu vermeiden, sobald man am Tisch saß, da die Getränke (aus den Selbstbedienungskühlschränken) schon geöffnet waren. Wer untersucht schon das gesamte Buffet, bevor man sich hinsetzt, den Mantel auszieht und einen Schluck trinkt? Zu diesem Zeitpunkt ist man quasi an das Essen und die Bezahlung gebunden, selbst wenn man das Lokal sofort verlassen möchte. Das fühlte sich unehrlich und hinterlistig an, so in die Unterstützung solcher Praktiken hineingezwungen zu werden. Verwirrenderweise bot das Buffet zwar diese exotischen Fleischsorten an, die nichts mit der chinesischen Küche zu tun haben, aber wirklich traditionelle Gerichte wie Hühnerfüße, Ei-Tropfen-Suppe, Wan-Tan-Suppe oder viele der großartigen Gemüsegerichte aus der chinesischen Küche fehlten komplett. Weitere Enttäuschungen kamen hinzu: • Ein fast leerer, kalter Reiskocher zur Hauptdinnerzeit. • Ente wurde ohne die traditionellen Beilagen wie Pfannkuchen, Frühlingszwiebeln oder Hoisinsauce serviert. Letztere war überhaupt nicht verfügbar, obwohl sie auf der Karte stand. • Unhöfliches und wenig hilfsbereites Personal. Ein Mitarbeiter sagte uns barsch, dass er kein Deutsch spricht, und verschwand, ohne weitere Hilfe (z.B. einen Kollegen zu bitten). • Die Zangen an der Sushi-Station waren fest zu und nicht benutzbar. • Keine traditionellen chinesischen Suppen, nur wenige Nudeloptionen und eine insgesamt hektische Atmosphäre, die sich unsicher anfühlte – besonders für mich, da ich schwanger bin und mich mehrmals zurückziehen musste, um meinen Bauch vor LAUFENDEM Personal zu schützen. Unter normalen Umständen hätte ich über einige Service- und Authentizitätslücken hinweggesehen, vor allem bei diesem fairen Preis. Aber das Angebot von Haifisch- und exotischem Fleisch ohne klare Warnung, gepaart mit suboptimalem Service und gefährlichem Verhalten, machte dieses Erlebnis insgesamt schrecklich. Ich werde definitiv nicht zurückkehren und werde anderen raten, dieses Restaurant ebenfalls zu meiden. Selbst meine Freunde, die das Restaurant empfohlen hatten, waren schockiert über das Haifleisch (welches soweit hinten versteckt war, dass es ihnen nie zuvor auffiel) und haben beschlossen, ebenfalls nicht mehr hinzugehen. Eine echte Schande, da es so viel besser hätte sein können.

A restaurant doesn't always get better as it gets older. The food doesn't always get better when it gets more expensive and sometimes you leave even if you don't keep up with the times. In short: a change of venue is coming up for me.

It is very spacious. Food was super tasty and the selection was very good. In terms of price it was also completely okay as the drinks were included in the price. All in all, it was a successful evening with good food and a great ambience. We will be back. 👍🏼

I recently had the pleasure of eating at Gourmet Tempel and unfortunately my visit was less than satisfactory. The cleanliness in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, which left a negative impression. In addition, the service was anything but friendly; Both the lady at reception and the service staff seemed to have little interest in a pleasant stay. It's unfortunate because the atmosphere could be so much more welcoming if the staff placed more emphasis on hospitality. I hope that the restaurant will work on these points in the future to improve the guest experience. -

Leider hatte ich auf meinem frisch zubereitetem Gemüse 2 Fühler von einer Riesengarnele drauf, ein paar kleine Garnelen und ein kleines Stück Fleisch. Ich habe mich so geekelt ( esse weder Fisch noch Fleisch), daß ich nichts weiteres mehr essen konnte. Da müsste ein bisschen besser aufgepasst werden.

As always, nice staff. Buffet is constantly replenished. Unfortunately at the weekend it was very, very loud in the dining area, which I find a bit annoying. Otherwise everything was great. Another thing worth mentioning is the wonderful coffee. I've never had such delicious coffee anywhere before

How can you call something like a gourmet temple?😖The store is completely run down, some very defective furniture and leftover food on the floor that is often ignored. Food was ok. We will never visit there again.

Was really good. I'm not a buffet fan and don't need this huge selection (I can choose between 20 dishes...) Food was warm, crunchy and always fresh. Good selection of drinks

Enjoy your meal! Points are deducted for the very high prices, the demands on the guest (€5 fine for plates not being eaten and drinks not being emptied, which would be okay if you were allowed to take the leftovers with you, but you are not allowed) and the unclean toilets.

I was there with a friend, €30.90 for the buffet is a mess, I think it's good that drinks are included. While we were eating we were watched and shown to our seat so we couldn't choose it. Small buffet for many people, that could be changed. Overall solid. You can do it, but it's better to eat normal Chinese food because it has better quality.

Highly recommended if you want to eat out with family or friends. You can eat a lot for little money. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. Mondays are best. It's not that crowded there.

The food from the buffet was very good. 5 🌟 Unfortunately I only give the Mongolian grill 1 🌟. The meat and fish were fried to death, black on both sides and far too dry. It was inedible. It's a shame about the food that was thrown away.

The plates are dirty and broken. The choice of fruits and desserts is very poor. I was amazed that you have to pay for a 2 year old child who hasn’t eaten anything((

The food is okay and so is the service, but the “nice” lady at the reception will be the reason why we won’t be coming back. Totally unfriendly and it's unheard of to unleash something like that on paying customers

We used to really enjoy eating here, mind you the prices weren't that high and the quality, cleanliness and service were very good. Now I just find it disgusting, I'm really sorry! Were here on Tuesday (June 2024), the dishes (plates, bowls, cutlery) were very dirty, the coffee machines were just disgusting... the toilet was dirty! The owner unfriendly as always. The employees are all very nice, the tables are cleared well. Nevertheless there are only 3 stars...... I think the price p.p. no longer justified. You give your plate of fresh things to grill and get grilled food back on your plate that you didn't take, but that's not the worst thing, it's the CLEANLINESS AND HYGIENE!

The food was delicious, as always. The selection of drinks is of course amazing. Price-performance is right in my opinion.

Not for us! Expensive (€62 for 2 people including drinks), loud and not sufficient buffet, as before. The sushi selection wasn't enough either. But the worst thing was the dirty plates and cutlery! No fortune cookies at the end… So we won't be coming back.

Great selection of food. I've only ever eaten from the buffet and it's always been good. Drinks are included in the total buffet price, as well as a good, large selection of chilled drinks. The service is very attentive and friendly. The evening buffet includes a Mongolian portion, so whatever you put on your plate is freshly grilled. Always enjoy coming here 👍🏼

We ate from the buffet. All dishes were tasty. Since there wasn't that much going on, there was no traffic jam at the buffet and it was pleasantly quiet.

Service very good, but the dishes are terrible and should be replaced urgently. Broken plates, some of them dirty, and the cutlery wasn't good either. The taste of the food is okay, which is perfectly fine for the price. But I won't eat here again.

Great place for a family reunion or meeting friends. The food was good but even better is the selection of drinks (+coffee) included in the all you can eat option. There is also a small playroom which is a plus if you have children.

Hello dear people, probably the food is excellent and the cleanliness is impeccable, but today's experience you have to know, the woman's cousin worked there, the owners of the restaurant are very doubtful. When hiring people from the HR department, these people keep, If I may say so, the employees' ID cards, today I drove over 400 km because I thought I had someone to talk to. We wanted to get the cousin's ID card back. But we were greeted by a hysterical restaurant owner who demanded that we pay a fee of 500 euros for his release and to give us back the cousin's ID card... So the food is consistently good. The selection is always the same, but that's not a bad thing. The staff is attentive, I get the impression that they're a bit annoyed at times, but that's understandable given the size of the store. I've heard rumors that it's dirty. I can not confirm. The dishes are getting old, chipped and discolored from spices, etc. That could really be changed. The logo can no longer be clearly recognized on the plates. Today I found the price/performance ratio to be quite ok. Will definitely go there again.

Service unfriendly. Especially the militant Asian woman at the reception. Service by untrained assistants. Buffet quite expensive. Taste so-so. There is far too little choice of sushi and the size of the makis is almost ridiculously small. I've eaten much better for my money, especially Asian. Everything is overcrowded and there is mass processing. In principle, there are no receipts here. Everything is simply collected into an open cash register.

Unfortunately the food was cold. The staff was very rude and didn't understand us at all. We have rarely felt so unwelcome ever again!!

The receptionist wasn't kind at all and very crude. She didn't answer my questions about the meals. And when I expressed my annoyance at her, she told me not to come back to this restaurant again😳, and that's what I'm really going to do.

At first I thought €19.50 for lunch would be a lot. However, it includes the rich buffet including drinks. Result: full and satisfied 😁

At the beginning we had to wait because everything was overcrowded even though we had called extra and then the food wasn't exactly convincing, it was really toe and cold like the day before and the coffee and cake offer wasn't really recommended given the selection little so for almost 33 € per person the price-performance ratio is not really convincing!!! In addition, it's really stressful and hectic there, which is really not tolerable. Overall, I don't recommend it!!!

Very tasty and really okay with the new concept (allucaneat and allucandrink) for €28.50/person. But: The receptionist at the front desk is really very unfriendly, I have rarely experienced that. There also seems to be at least one human resources manager, but someone so unfriendly definitely has no place at the customer reception!

Gladly again. What I would like to mention positively is the 5€ surcharge for the plates that were not eaten empty.

Also das ist ein Hohn und Sport für diesen Namen allein schon man ist wirklich angewidert bis sonst wohin es ist alles kalt und man wird beobachtet und dumm angemacht wenn man an die Getränke Kühlschränke geht und das alles für fast 33 € pro Person dass es mehr als gewissenlos und unverschämt zusätzlich ist die Hygiene und die Teller genauso wie die Gabel und Löffeln ziemlich versaut da ist es kein Wunder wenn man nicht mehr vom Klo runter kommt wir waren jetzt schon das dritte Mal da und uns ist hinterher richtig schlecht geworden also man wird auch dauernd beobachtet und komisch angeguckt nach eineinhalb Stunden sind wir wieder gegangen freiwillig ansonsten hätten wir uns bestimmt übergeben da sollte man mal die Kontrolleure hinschicken vom Amt und zwar ziemlich dringend genauso auch Anbraten von frischen Sachen entweder die sind nicht richtig durch die Garnelen oder die sind komplett verbrannt!!!! Also tut euch den Gefallen und gebt lieber 20 € mehr aus als hinterher rumzuheulen mit bauchschmerzen

Were there at lunchtime. Typical buffet without any special taste. I often find the taste to be too dominated by flavors and less original. In addition, the beef is very firm to the bite. Duck satisfactory. Recommendation curry chicken. Unfortunately, the tuna salad was missing from the salad buffet. Instead, green salad with no taste. But you can improve the taste a bit with olive oil and vinegar. We don't eat the fried stuff. Because it's just too unhealthy. Many people like it. More fresh fruit should be kept available. The place seems to be doing surprisingly well. I wanted high-quality plated buffet food on a natural basis. Scores for spices and quality. In the case of a buffet, only one plate would be allowed in the price.

I was once in a restaurant with a friend. The food was cold and apparently not fresh. And whoever takes the order on the phone is a very angry woman. She yelled something into the phone and then hung up, so I had to call back again.

If you want to eat a lot and quickly. Class. If you want to have a nice evening where eating is just a casual thing but you would like to have a chat, I prefer something else.

Food is great, lots of choice. Drinks included. The boss is unfriendly and she didn't expect it either, so we've been there 3 times now and each time she charged way too much, the last time it was almost €100 too much. Then the discussions start, don't want to listen or can't understand it, in the end we as guests have to calculate what we have to pay. Waiters are friendly Despite everything, I like to go there because it's really delicious

Food is quite good so far. However, you can't really sit comfortably, it's way too loud and hectic. The receptionist is very unsympathetic.

We visited the restaurant for the first time today and it stayed that way. The food in the buffet was lukewarm to ice cold. The freshly fried dishes were at least hot, but parts that had been put on the plates beforehand were missing. There are extreme signs of wear on the plates. Service staff with penetrating smells that you can no longer taste the food and are also heavily ringed. This limits hygiene. Tables, chairs and other things are cleaned with a cloth. Food for the Mongolian buffet is still partially frozen. Conclusion: It's not worth the 30 euros. The best part of the evening was the bottled beer.

Everything was as expected. Enough because unfortunately it's not particularly hot. 👍🏻

Food tastes very good, good selection of food.

Unsympathetic, unfriendly and rude, they loudly make fun of overweight people in front of the customer because they need space for “fat” people. The food seemed more like discounter goods, Mongolian buffet was fried “dead”, the salmon resembled a burnt piece of beef. Once and never again!!!

I don't recommend anyone to go there... You won't be served at all here, the buffet is half empty! The woman responsible for the waiter is very rude and unfriendly. She can't behave at all. Very bad service!!! You are forced to leave after just 1.5 hours.

Unfortunately the food was ice cold. When I mentioned this at the checkout, I was just shouted at and the lady seemed annoyed and rude. I was accused of lying. A pity. For the price we should pay, I expect the food to be at least warm.

When we got there, we were treated unkindly by a waiter, the food wasn't tasty either, when we left the store we weren't told "bye, have a nice evening" - everything was just pathetic! Not recommended.

Unfriendly staff, some food was left for a long time

On Saturday, February 17th, 2024, we visited your restaurant. We were a group of 12 grown men. We were offered a round table that was too small. Despite our request for a larger table, we were told that the decision rested with the manager at the checkout. However, there were other, sufficiently large tables available. The waiter, who was of Asian descent, didn't seem to be interested in serving a larger table and then cleaning it. Even after speaking to the lady at the checkout, we didn't get a satisfactory solution. She seemed completely indifferent. The food had an inferior taste and seemed more like cardboard. We were disappointed with the quality. We would also like to note that the tips are not divided among the employees, but are retained. We hope for an appropriate solution and an improvement in the points mentioned.

The food tastes good. The various dishes also taste different depending on the dish. I have often experienced things differently in such restaurants. The food is always freshly replenished. The freshly fried food is not grilled to death but rather well prepared. However...Unfortunately there is an atmosphere like in a train station lobby...the noise level is enormous and it echoes through the whole restaurant...if you can tolerate that for the time of eating you can eat well here...I think the price is good including drinks appropriate.

The shop doesn't work at all, just mass processing, the table we were assigned was wiped with a cloth, the shop was full of leftover food from the table in front of it and it was just dirty

I recommend for those who prefer sushi and who like to eat rice ;). It's great that children can also have fun and there is also a buffet with lots of desserts (perfect for those with a sweet tooth;). There are also fries and chicken nuggets for the kids :)

In short, the food (duck) didn't taste good. An additional portion of pasta costs €15.00, which we think is a bit too much:-(! We are used to better things from Minden.

The food is delicious. The usual "Chinese" dishes. Unfortunately the dessert is really not good. The drink selection is huge! The price is great! There is a star deduction for the volume. Unfortunately, the store is so big that it's hard to have a conversation when it's full. Then you'd almost rather cover your ears.

Were there on a Saturday evening. Totally overcrowded but okay, every store is designed to maximize profits. Nevertheless, you don't need to point out to a guest as soon as they sit down that you have to clear the table in a maximum of 2 hours. I don't think anyone stays there longer than necessary. It's really loud there and everything reminds you of mass processing on an assembly line. The food and drinks are good. However, the lady at reception is sometimes rude and offends you. When I leave and pay, she asks me why I only pay for myself and not for everyone. I was there with my siblings and everyone paid for themselves.

Today, despite having a reservation, we left after queuing for 40 minutes at the buffet. There was no way to get to the buffet, so many guests, pure chaos. The staff was totally overwhelmed, then became very rude and shouted at other guests, so we stopped the whole thing. The problem is, you were tied to time, you only had 2 hours to eat because the tables would then be passed on other guests... Definitely the last time... I had to give 1 star, which is definitely not justified, but otherwise you can't post 🙃

Lots of choice and always fresh. My family's ritual is to eat there every Friday.

Worst store. Just because you supposedly line up on the wrong side of the buffet, you are physically attacked and insulted. Never again...

The food and the selection of dishes is definitely worth the price. The service from the staff is also good. The acoustics of the restaurant and the ambience alone are still creepy. It's incredibly loud at the tables and the shop is hectic like an anthill has been torn open. You have to experience the boss at the checkout: I have never experienced such unfriendliness in the service sector. It borders on comedy, how disparaging and uncharming she rules there. Yesterday I was almost afraid that we wouldn't be allowed to pay for it anymore. Under no circumstances should you leave a tip there. This would be better left directly to the service staff.

Actually not worth a star today...!!! We were so looking forward to the food today and when we arrived, with a prior reservation, there was total chaos... overcrowded, screaming and flailing staff... no way to get to the buffet... after 30 minutes, still empty plates and the queue The buffet took longer and longer...very poorly organized...far too many guests at the buffet...left the buffet with an empty plate after 45 minutes after the staff shouted about getting in line and then pushed the guests around here...because you were only allowed to stay for 2 hours....the complaint was paid absolutely no attention to when you left....just sad and very frightening😡...definitely not anymore from my current impression recommended!!!

Unfortunately the duck was baked to death at the buffet. When serving, you would have the feeling that you were being paid based on the plates that were returned, so quickly the empty plate was off the table. The lunch was still delicious and recommended.

Quite good for a temple of this type. Large selection, drinks are included. Also beer and espresso. Rich buffet. Hardworking staff. Unfortunately, the fresh preparation takes a very long time and then comes back extremely fried. It's not a star restaurant, it's mass processing, I know. But a little more respect for animals would be nice here. Also for the end consumer. Everything else is OK to good. Adults 30.90, children up to 10 years 16.90, up to 4 years 5.00. Even at 13 years old, my daughter probably only eats 5 nuggets with 3 fries and a lychee for dessert. You really have to think about whether it's worth it. The waiter said children's price up to 11 years, the lady at the checkout said 10 years. We then only had to pay the children's price, but it would be good if we could agree. Some of the guests are out of line here, teenagers who sit together with their "brothers", talking loudly, with jackets and caps on, burping at the table, that would be an obstacle to coming back again.
