Super cozy atmosphere. Totally friendly staff and, most importantly: incredibly delicious food. We had the beef roulades with Thuringian dumplings and the salmon tagliatelle. We're so glad we stumbled upon this place. We'll definitely be back! 😊

We passed by on January 2nd and stopped briefly for a bratwurst in the snow. We'd gladly come back again on our next visit to Thuringia.

It's just gone downhill. A greasy little bratwurst. It used to be our first stop when we drove to Oberhof. Now we don't even bother stopping.

We visited the restaurant on a whim and managed to get a table for the three of us on Friday evening. Everything else was reserved. We were looking forward to the "Rostbrätl" (grilled pork) and weren't disappointed.

A true gem! This forest inn impresses with its delicious, expertly prepared food at truly reasonable prices. The staff is exceptionally warm and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The atmosphere is cozy, lovingly decorated, and full of charm – you can immediately tell that the place is run with a lot of heart. In summer, you can sit outside. Highly recommended; we'll definitely be back!

The interaction was extremely rude. After a polite request for a table, I was treated rudely.

I can only review the restaurant. There were eight of us. The service was okay. The restaurant was almost empty, yet we still waited over an hour for our food. It arrived gradually, so it took 25 minutes until everything was there. One steak was supposed to be medium, but it was only rare. The chef refused to redo it and then, after the person refused to pay, threatened to call the police and asked them to leave.

Located on the site of the old customs house, right at the crossroads to Luisenthal, Crawinkel, and Oberhof. I was a guest at the restaurant and can only speak positively about the food. Thuringian bratwurst and grilled pork steaks are cooked outside. Inside, there are two dining rooms. The food is freshly prepared, and what I ordered actually came with homemade red cabbage and homemade Thuringian dumplings 👍👍👍 This isn't common everywhere anymore. I will certainly visit again. The staff was very attentive.

It's a long-standing tradition to eat a genuine Thuringian bratwurst at the crossroads on the way to Oberhof. It's the best Thuringian bratwurst I know!

Conveniently located on the L3247, with a huge parking lot opposite. We loved the charming, rustic atmosphere; the service was friendly but down-to-earth. Delicious Thuringian sausages in a roll, straight from the grill, for €4, plus mulled wine, also for €4. It was a perfect fit. It was busy, but we were lucky and got served right away. Highly recommended.

The snack bar is best for its Thuringian bratwurst. And we tried a lot. You can also buy it fresh to take home, although at €2.20 it's more expensive than at the original butcher shop in Suhl (€1.50).

We can only review the restaurant, and I can absolutely recommend it. The service was calm, friendly, very attentive, and quick. The food was delicious. They certainly didn't skimp on the sauce. The meat was tender, and the dumplings were homemade. Next time we're in the area, we'll definitely be back.

We spontaneously decided to visit this afternoon and were very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and a good menu. The owners themselves cook everything fresh. We were very satisfied with the dishes and highly recommend it. Reservations are probably recommended for lunch. Open until 7 pm.

A charming old-fashioned restaurant with two dining rooms. The food was absolutely delicious. We waited an hour for our meal, but it was well worth it. We received a warm welcome. If you're looking for a taste of tradition, this is the place for you.

Very, very tasty bratwursts. Unfortunately, the prices have increased significantly; one bratwurst now costs €3. But if you want to buy raw bratwurst, you now have to pay €2.00, which is completely over the top, and you feel like you've been ripped off. Update Autumn 2025: A bratwurst now costs €4. And they used to taste a bit better... what a pity.

Highly recommended as a day trip destination. There are no longer any overnight accommodations.

There's nothing to complain about, either the food or the staff. I don't understand some of the comments. The food was incredibly delicious, and the service was super friendly and personable. The prices were good, but honestly, everything has gotten more expensive. I think the portion size was reasonable, and the food was prepared with lots of love. We'll be back :-)

A small, fine restaurant in the Thuringian Forest. You can either get a "quick" Thuringian sausage from the takeaway service or sit comfortably in the restaurant and enjoy the dishes from the small but fine menu. The price is reasonable for a restaurant. The portions are generous and delicious. This time we had roulade with apple red cabbage and Thuringian dumplings, and roast venison with apple red cabbage and Thuringian dumplings. This restaurant certainly won't see the last of us.

We'd been mountain biking the day before and treated ourselves to a bratwurst at the outdoor grill. Everything was excellent. Good quality, and at €4, I don't think it was any more expensive than anywhere else. The next day, we went to the restaurant and were warmly welcomed and served in a quaint dining room. The food was excellent. This is true craftsmanship. I have to say, I ate the best pork knuckle ever there—and I come from Bavaria—the land of knuckles. I absolutely can't understand some of the negative reviews.

Very good as a stopover for food if you have time

Not again. Unfriendly staff. They loudly warned us not to consume any food or drinks we brought with us. This wasn't necessary, as we had bought something there. The way they handled it was a disaster!

We only had bratwurst and currywurst. They were good. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio wasn't right. Currywurst with a roll was €6, bratwurst with a roll was €4, and shandy was €4.50, which is way too expensive for takeaway food.

We had the pork knuckle and the hut-style platter and were absolutely thrilled. The food was truly delicious and plentiful, and the service was very friendly and efficient. The price was also completely reasonable.

Very unfriendly!!! We lost our appetite, even though the sausages must have tasted good. One of the unfriendly innkeepers I've ever encountered nearly lost it and yelled at me as I sat down at one of the two forest taverns outside the beer garden and got my thermos while the rest of the family bought the sausages. You can also address the problem in a reasonable manner, right? By the way, we weren't sitting in the way, as it was already close to closing time.

Definitely not going back. Extremely unfriendly. They just ruined our day with their unfriendly attitude. We bought two sausages for €4 each and water for €3.20. When we said, "Oh, better not the water," the lady at the cash register said in a very condescending tone that it was too late and that the tax office would come. She continued to mutter about what people think they're doing, as another customer approvingly agreed with me from afar about her water. When we then wanted to get ketchup, the man at the grill just mumbled to himself about how anyone could have ketchup without paying for a sausage. I pointed out to him that my boyfriend was packing it up and we were welcome to show it to him again. He reacted ignorantly and cynically. It makes me sad how tourists are treated here and I advise everyone to find out about prices and everything else before being treated unfriendly. I was really looking forward to showing my friend from Mexico my hometown, and I find it absolutely appalling how our customer service is towards tourists. A great example of Thuringian hospitality!

Today on the way back from Oberhof we stopped at the “Gasthaus Zur Wegscheide”. Unfortunately only the snack bar was open and not the restaurant. No matter, a currywurst for me, a Rostbrätel for my wife and a bratwurst in a roll for our 3-year-old daughter are enough. In terms of quality, however, it was a real letdown. The sausage in my currywurst was lukewarm and the curry sauce was completely cold. The worst currywurst I've ever had. The Rostbrätel was probably quite chewy and the bratwurst wasn't great either (our little one only wanted the roll after tasting it, which is why I had the sausage). The worst thing about the visit, however, was that not even a 3-year-old girl was allowed to go to the toilet there. Instead, you have to take off your child's ski suit on a forest path in sub-zero temperatures in the snow and hold him back. Really the last thing like that.

Best food. I always make a stop before I drive to Suhl.👌

We stop here very often on our trip. It's one of the few stalls that are always open and offer fresh Thuringian bratwursts from the charcoal grill.

Discovered by chance. Solid, cozy, good food. The tarte flambée with meat black pudding was unusual but extremely tasty.

Reasonably priced, rustic selection that tastes good

One of the unfriendly innkeepers I have ever experienced. We weren't allowed to use the toilet despite being offered to pay €1 each for flushing the toilet. The innkeeper was half-freaked out because we had the audacity to politely ask for a toilet. I think that everyone has been in the situation of having to relieve themselves and I find that absolutely impossible! The roster used to be much better, but I will never stop there again anyway because of how unfriendly it is.

So we have been there many times before the Autobahn 71 existed from 2001 to ???. You had to take the Gotha exit on Autobahn 4 to get to Oberhof or Suhl and the path inevitably led past the large parking lot at the crossroads, where you can get delicious Thuringian grilled sausages from the charcoal grill every lunchtime. This year we were traveling to Suhl again and we deliberately didn't turn onto Autobahn 71, but took the old route because of the bratwurst. We discovered that after 23 years the same grill master was still there and sold us the delicious bratwursts. 😋😋😋😋👍👍👍👍
