We visited this restaurant on Friday and sat at a lovely table for two outside in the courtyard. We reserved this table for the next day. When we arrived on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the table was occupied, and a reservation had been made for us inside the restaurant. However, we didn't want to leave because we had a reservation for outside. Since we didn't want to, we were advised to leave. We will not be returning to the restaurant in the future.

I ordered the Ox-style schnitzel, which arrived extremely quickly; I've never received my food in such a short time. The schnitzel tasted absolutely nothing, like frozen food. The sauce had little flavor. The fries were absolutely inedible; I've never had fries so bad. Service was good and attentive; they refunded €2 for the fries. The meal was a total disaster. I had a bit of an upset stomach afterward, probably because the sauce was way too greasy.

This inn was recommended to us, and after our visit, we're happy to pass on the recommendation: super delicious dishes, seasonally adapted (currently, for example, asparagus), delicious drinks, and a large selection of different beers. The service is friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

The location and the overall impression are great, the service staff are super friendly and cheerful, and the beer is impeccable. All in all, the dining experience was good but not overwhelming. (As we all know, tastes differ here.) Given all the good reviews, however, it's reasonable to assume that a different chef might have been in charge that day. Portion sizes, like the price, are adjusted to "market tourism"; of course, food costs are different in "rural" regions. The beef broth was good, and in my opinion, the portion size is even a bit larger than usual, which pleased me as a soup lover. The portion of the "Ox" schnitzel could have been larger; I find the price considerably too high. The fries and schnitzel were too bland for our taste, and adding seasoning at the table only helped to a limited extent. The chicken breast with feta filling was fine, and the hash browns were also delicious. For the side salad (great mustard dressing) the individual leaves could have been cut smaller, but that's not really a problem.

Great food in a rustic atmosphere and nice staff

Very courteous service. The "OX Art" schnitzel with the pretzel crust, the bacon-onion cream sauce with fried onions and bacon slices was a hit. I've never had such a great combo before. Highly recommended! We'll definitely come back.

Rustic inn with down-to-earth, varied cuisine. Large portions (including the senior plate and side salad) but still high quality. Fresh vegetables, tasty and dressed as a side dish, are also worth mentioning, as unfortunately you can't find them everywhere. Friendly, attentive hospitality. We felt very comfortable there with our seniors and can only warmly recommend it!

The brewer's goulash is super tasty. I like to cook a lot myself, but this goulash surpasses my own. Five stars to the chef “Steffen Simon” and the whole friendly team.

We were on a trip to Wertheim today and happened to discover the back terrace of this restaurant and settled down there. We were absolutely happy with the food, we hadn't eaten so well in a long time and it wasn't expensive at all!! So absolutely recommended! Thank you

If you want German home cooking, you have to go here! Very cozy atmosphere with super attentive service. Meat was very good, potato soufflé was unique! And then the sauce! And best of all...very child friendly. Simply recommended!!!!

A really very good restaurant with good food and a top team. And the step into modernity 😎 We were here with a group of 15 people and all the food and drinks came right, on time and were very tasty. The team was always attentive and came regularly to check on everything. A great bonus from me is the digital ordering option. All drinks can be ordered and paid for digitally using a barcode. The team then delivers all the drinks ordered to the table within 5 minutes. This is really good 👍

No recommendation. Dumplings completely dried out, as cooked the day before. Sauce without taste. Rolled venison roast very flaxy. The best thing was the side salad (for an additional charge). My colleague suffered from stomach cramps at night (schnitzel with bacon). Service and ambience okay.

Went there for dinner on March 29, 2025 because the reviews were good. 5:30 p.m. was already well attended. Good location on the market square from the Tauber car park, just a 10-minute walk. Nice rustic atmosphere. I ordered vegetable dumplings with a side salad. The best wife large salad with salmon, tomatoes, cucumbers, sour cream dip. Now I got 3 vegetable dumplings in a small cast iron pan with some mushrooms and vegetables. Tiny portion - no trace of garlic taste. Side salad was the best part. But then with my best one - the lettuce had probably already been cleaned and cut in the morning - every leaf was already damaged. There was neither a tomato nor a cucumber to be found and there was no sign of a sour cream dip. In 30 years with my bestie, this was the second time we complained about a meal. It was an absolute disgrace to serve something like that. I was about to give only one star, but the waitress was also embarrassed and we only had to pay for my dish. Prices are on the higher side for what is on offer and in my opinion are not justified. Therefore two stars.

The atmosphere in the Ochsen is super cozy. We are from Wertheim and were very disappointed with the ox for a long time. The food was bland and not tasty, even though as a guest I feel uninvited, which is a shame. BUT we have been there 3 times in a short space of time, we were greeted very nicely when we arrived, the food was unrecognizable. The portions were absolutely sufficient, fresh salad with delicious dressing. Prices are as they should be and a variety of beer selections. Please, please keep it up. Greetings from the neighborhood. Finally the boss is taking care of his guests again. The managers of the last era were a disaster.

Atmosphere is perfect, the wooden elements, farmers tools and decor generally really do add to the “German” vibe, giving it that unique look you are most likely searching for, just the way we did. The food, to me, is just perfect… for me this was a 30 minute drive, in a one hour driving range, this is by far the best restaurant I could go to if it comes to German Cousine. I’ve already been here once and sadly did not take a picture of the Käsespätzle Pfanne, which is more than pleasing to the eye. Today, as you can see below, I decided on a Jäger schnitzel. It comes with fries and a bread coating, which in this case is a bretzel coating. It might not look like much but do trust me, you will leave with a full belly. The price is just fine, not cheap but not too expensive… the only thing I wouldn’t be able to talk big about would be the service. They do not check very often, so it might occur that your empty plate does wait about 10 minutes until taken away, which is a bit questionable in a small establishment like this. I did see one of the waiters just standing there for a bit, to be fair she was younger, but why not just go around and ask if everything’s fine? Besides that, perfect establishment, recommend it with all of my heart.

After many people told me that I should definitely go to the Ochsen in Wertheim, I did so together with my family. We had my little 2 month old daughter with us. I've never been looked at like that by all the other guests in a restaurant. As if they had seen a bany for the first time. After my wife of course also had to breastfeed, which she did discreetly without disturbing people and which shouldn't be a problem at all in 2024, the conversations in the room above us became louder and she heard everything. Impossible and rude! The food didn't blow me away. My rind at the Dchäufele was tough and inedible, the beef broth was definitely mixed with ready-made powder. The menu in English tells me that mostly tourists eat here. I will no longer come and pass on my experiences. That's not possible for the prices.

On the recommendation of the staff, we decided to order smaller portions of the spaetzle. However, what we were served was a bitter disappointment. The portions were so tiny that they could hardly have been considered an appetizer - simply cheeky for the price charged. The dishes arrived at the table lukewarm, which significantly affected the enjoyment of some dishes. The taste of the food was just average. Our polite feedback about the food was received rather unfriendly by the staff. For such service and the quality of the food, the restaurant cannot be recommended. As an apology we got a soft drink on the house. Overall, unfortunately, a disappointing visit that we will certainly not repeat.

The schnitzel dish was nothing... no small garnish, no sauce... So it was food truck food ..The vegetarian dish was bitter because it was fried incorrectly and for too long. But I got a discount for that...The gratin was good...But this place isn't worth coming back to

We were on the way from vacation for an overnight stay in Wertheim. Looking for a Franconian restaurant, we stopped at “Zum Ochsen” for lunch. We found the food, the ambience and, last but not least, the staff so refreshingly warm and friendly that we went there again in the evening to eat. The food, wine and beers tasted wonderful. Even in the evening, despite the full restaurant, the service and friendliness of the new employees was unsurpassed, calm and perfect. Keep it up, thank you. Best regards

The ox breast with horseradish is highly recommended, but unfortunately the fried Maultaschen were not good. The vegetables are overcooked and greasy. Still a very cozy place and very friendly service.
