Gasthaus "Zum Ochsen" in Wertheim

Zonder reservering is het vinden van een goed restaurant aan de romantische Strasse een hele uitdaging. Gelukkig mochten we hier, in het enige restaurant waar ook nog een bar aanwezig is, aan de bar eten. Te midden van een aantal lokale bewoners, die genoten van de diverse bieren op de tap, hebben wij genoten van een heerlijke biefstuk.

Good home cooking, exactly what you would expect in a house like this! Service is also good. Liquor with flies in it can happen, without a response from the service, but that's just stupid, at least we didn't have to pay for it.

Went there to eat and had Schäufele, which really disappointed us. The meat was rather dry and didn't come off the bone particularly well. Unfortunately the crust wasn't particularly crispy. According to the menu, the side dish would have been dumplings. Fried bread dumplings were served. There was a little too little sauce, but we were given additional sauce. The service was very nice.

Ambience in the beer garden is very appealing. Beer very tasty and nicely chilled. The service and the food were ok. A bit sloppy when assigning tables. We didn't like the food that much. The fried cauliflower and broccoli was over fried. The CordonBleu for €20 is almost an impudence given its size. But the taste is ok. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

The Gasthaus zum Ochsen is a cozy and authentic old parlor. We received a friendly welcome there and were given a comfortable place in the guest room. Our food (Schäufle & Käsespätzle) was really tasty and well prepared! Worth a real recommendation ;)

Really delicious schnitzel! The fries were super fresh and hot! They came w a delicious spice on them as well. Unfortunately no tap water, only bottled water available. Service was good, nothing amazing, pretty simple. Super cute and aesthetic eating area tho! All in shade and private, off the walking road.

As a cycling tourist passing through, we went here for dinner today. Heard a lot of good things about the restaurant and the food... we had to try it. Let's put it this way... the beer was cold and tasty but at over €5 for a 0.5er it wasn't exactly a bargain. The time between ordering and delivery of the drinks was not exactly a masterpiece at 20 minutes. The "house specialty" the "Schäufele" was very tasty on the inside but completely dry on the side and was left on the plate. The resulting note to the operator was acknowledged with the comment “I know”. What should we conclude from this? The waitress knows that the food that is being served is not perfect? The cordon bleu was very tasty but not very big... well, apparently you can't be very hungry. It took another half an hour before we could grab someone to pay. All in all, unfortunately not more than 3 stars. It wasn't a total failure, but it could definitely be improved.

We went to the Ochs to eat Schäufele, unfortunately the crust wasn't chewable. The rind is actually the most important thing; it has to be crispy but also cuttable and chewable. Neither was given. It's a shame, I was so happy. The schnitzel was also not what we expected. The breading was rather soft, fries and meat were good.

I was really impressed by the delicacies served in this establishment, and I was particularly impressed by the various variations of the rump steak. The choice of beer in favor of the Distelhäuser brewery is debatable, but you can make ends meet with yeast and naturally cloudy pilsner. By the time you start drinking the clear drinks, all doubts should disappear; the Prinz schnapps are truly worth enjoying. The food and drinks are served by extremely friendly, cooperative and capable staff, who can be highly praised here. All in all, highly recommended.

If necessary, call ahead and reserve a table, otherwise you may not get a table. Zum Oschen is known and popular among locals and tourists.

Unmöglich! Reservierter Tisch. Nach 20 Minuten gegangen, weil bis dahin bei einem nur zu 2/3 gefüllten Lokal, noch nicht einmal eine Getränkebestellung entgegengenommen wurde. Nie wieder!

I always ask myself why no restaurant can fry the salad with turkey or chicken strips until they are crispy and still soft on the inside. Next time I'll give this one back.

Absolutely recommendable restaurant on the market square in Wertheim. Even though we arrived shortly before the kitchen closed, we were still well looked after and served excellent food by the restaurant team. If you're looking for delicious, authentic food at really reasonable prices, this is the place for you. The interior of the restaurant is quaint, and the small courtyard behind the underpass is also very cozy. Thank you for the good hospitality!

Service and ambience were really great but unfortunately the food wasn't good. I always call it assembly line food. The potatoes taste like they were from the day before :-(

Unlike many, our Schäufele was boiled rather than fried, and the rind was crispy. A disappointment in terms of appearance and taste. Here, too, no questions were asked. Dumplings and the sauce were good. Staff top. Beer garden better than the nice atrium.

As a group you are not in good hands there! The service staff was simply overwhelmed that evening, drinks that were not ordered were brought (and taken away again) - and were therefore billed incorrectly. The salmon was old and tasted “transky” - really inedible. Took a week to heal the after effects. I'm sorry, but I won't be coming here again.

Friendly service but understaffed. Maybe you should occupy fewer tables and make the guests happy. Waiting 20 minutes for drinks doesn't make you happy. The food was good. The Schäufele are great.

Heute war es wieder soweit. Gastronomie vs. Single. Reserviert war Tags zuvor persönlich ,für den folgenden Tag, ein bestimmter Tisch. Wurde auch von der Bedienung vor meinen Augen gebucht. Angekommen am reservierten Tag und passende Stunde war der Tisch vergeben und ich sollte mich zu anderen Personen an einen Tisch setzen. Es wurde KEINE Alternative von der Bedienung angeboten. Auch wenn die Restaurantleiterin dies abgestritten hat. Fazit: Singles nicht erwünscht! Bin sehr enttäuscht über diese Ausgrenzung!

New attempt after years, disappointed several times. Ordered food, at the table after 3 minutes??? But you're happy to wait a little longer for quality... Conclusion: lukewarm, tasteless goulash, watery sauce without any seasoning, 4 cubes of meat, 3 slices of napkin dumplings (rubbery, also tasteless - finished product), advertised as a large portion... haha ​​- rather a children's portion for €17.90. Dry cheese spaetzle with no kick...disappointed child! The friendly waitress also said this...asked for another chance...but she was - never again!

Unfortunately, the Franconian Schäufele was neither tender nor juicy - a disappointment! In view of what was left, the friendly waitress refrained from asking the usual question about how it tasted... We had reserved two places "outdoors when the weather is nice" - these were located in the drafty atrium of the spacious building. If you would like to sit in the beer garden: It is located at the back, unfortunately all the seats there were occupied.

The food was very tasty, but we had to wait over an hour for the food despite it being very busy. The service also leaves something to be desired. Ambience very rustic which has a certain charm, but not well maintained. Tables are sticky and the wood is worn... The smoke comes in so that you feel like you're in the middle of a smoking room.

Here you can find homemade (honest) food at reasonable prices. It's just a shame that I live over 200km away. Otherwise I would be a regular.

It's certainly not all bad Oxen at the market square. Outstanding Salad cellars, tasty dishes. A nimble but friendly one Service. The boss makes the guest wait in an annoying way, even though she doesn't have anything important to do. Very annoying.

We have been coming here for years, but today the smell you smell upon entering (sour cleaning smell) hit you, but we got a nice spot in the cozy part and drank a delicious beer. Ordered asparagus with a rump steak, but it hasn't been that bad in a long time. Soggy sour asparagus, gratin (normal potatoes were already a problem) and streaky steak (certainly not rump steak) after asking, it was tasty (asparagus is still there as well as the gratin) no. So I paid and the lady indicates that a tip is normal in Germany 😂 I eat more of the time in Germany than in the Netherlands, but I did not expect this after the tasteless food as a discussion, hence this review. We ate here more than 25 times (also often for work with colleagues), but unfortunately this was the last time.

Were there for the first time, rustic restaurant with a long history, ideal for beer drinkers as there are many different types, hearty food, I chose vegetarian food, very expensive and not particularly good, goulash and other dishes were very well received, beautiful location, with a covered courtyard.

We had a delicious meal here this evening. We'd love to come back.

We found this place and thought we’d give it a go. The staff were pleasant and spoke to us in English once they knew we didn’t speak much German. We ordered some dishes but one of them that arrived was no as advertised in the menu. So was disappointing. Other than that. It was a good place to eat.

Essen sieht gut aus - schmeckt aber großteils nicht. Beilagen passen nicht immer zum Thema. Pommes und Salat sind gut . Schäufele geht auch.

If you were in Wertheim Village, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to drive into the village and stop at the rustic Gasthaus zum Ochsen. Traditional cuisine, fresh and tasty. It's worth it.

An institution in Wertheim. Now what strikes me negatively: the beer prices are at big city levels. 0.33l Distelhäuser non-alcoholic €4.10, half €5.10. This is more expensive than in Aschaffenburg etc. Accepting that is a matter of principle. Too bad.

Direkt in der Fußgängerzone des schönen Wertheimer Marktplatzes liegt der "Ochse", Parkplätze gibt es unweit von hier am Tauber-Parkplatz oder am Main. Uriger, rustikaler Gastraum - insbesondere, wenn man weiß, dass hier früher ein Kino war (im Eingangsbereich sieht man noch die Vitrinen, in den früher die Plakate von "Winnetou" oder "Casablanca" hingen). Wenn man es etwas heller haben will, gibt es im hinteren Bereich noch einen weiteren kleinen Gastraum Freundlicher und effektiver Service, wir waren schon öfter hier und haben in netter Atmosphäre die wirklich gute Badisch-Fränkische Küche und ein frisch gezapftes Pils oder einen Fränkischen Wein genossen - es wird nicht das letzte Mal gewesen sein!

Leider wird es von Mal zu Mal schlechter…immer mehr Speisen werden von der Karte gestrichen und bis das Personal mal zum Tisch kommt dauert es sehr lange. Ebenso hat die Küche nur noch bis 20 Uhr geöffnet. Schade dass man die letzten guten Restaurants in der Stadt selbst kaputt macht als Eigentümer.

Ambience ok, service courteous and friendly. Quality of food and price/performance one of the worst experiences in a long time. Prices are a matter of opinion and it's Wertheim am Main and not Am A-de-W... but you can still make an effort or leave it alone. Cordon Bleu raw pork inside. It ruined my appetite so much that I didn't want another one afterwards. It was removed from the bill (which was the minimum) but no offer of a digestive (I could have really used it) or a dessert or anything like that. Just a friendly reminder to come back again. The remaining dishes were small, expensive and tasted on a canteen level (although I've had better food in many canteens - so it's more of a saying). Definitely not a recommendation. There are much better alternatives locally for the same or less money. Too bad.

Der Ochsen liegt direkt am Marktplatz in der Wertheimer Altstadt. Uriger Gasthof, viel Holz, ein historisches Gebäude eben. Die Speisekarte ist bürgerlich fränkisch, es gibt auch ein Tagesangebot. Es gibt eine große Anzahl an sehr guten Fassbieren, aber auch die Weinkarte ist ordentlich. Wir wurden rasch und freundlich bedient, obwohl das Lokal sehr voll war. Unser Essen war frisch zubereitet und sehr schmackhaft. Die Preise sind für Lage und Qualität okay. Eine Reservierung ist besonders zu Stoßzeiten empfehlenswert. Das Lokal verfügt auch über einen teilweise überdachten ruhigen Biergarten.

At the beginning we were welcomed and served by a very friendly service person. Unfortunately, this was then replaced by a colleague who was very rude and unfriendly towards us. We ordered, among other things, the vegetarian Maultaschen and fried potatoes. The fried potatoes came with bacon, although this was not noted on the menu (online). The service staff “blamed” us for this because we hadn’t explicitly said that we were eating vegetarian. The “blame assignment” was done very stubbornly and repeatedly on her part. The service staff also behaved very unprofessionally and condescendingly at all of the tables next to us. In addition, the main components of our food seemed very familiar (from the refrigerated section of the supermarket). The price-performance ratio is outrageous. Really a shame.

We wanted to eat there and we were immediately told that the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. We were there at 7:15 p.m. We were placed in a side room that had a bowling alley bar feel, although there were still seats available in the very nice dining room at the front. Then they left. We were very disappointed.

Even though we were only in Wertheim Village for shopping, we were looking for a restaurant with home-style food because we didn't just want to eat fast food. So we followed the route to the Ochsen and found it well. Luckily there was a place available even without a reservation and we were able to pass the time with a well-functioning free WiFi. The ambience and menu are home-style and cozy. The goulash was like mother's, delicate and carefully prepared and served. The only point deducted for me is the ambience because a regular customer couldn't stop giving my wife clear looks 7th because the beer now costs 4.50. But I know the VAT...

Ich hatte das Rumpsteak und es war wirklich sehr lecker, allerdings war ich von der Größe mehr als enttäuscht, würde schätzen das waren höchstens 120 Gramm und das für knapp 28 Euro

Im Rahmen eines Kurzurlaubs besuchten wir das "Gasthaus und Theke zum Ochsen" am Marktplatz in Wertheim. Als wir am frühen Abend zeitig zum Abendessen einkehrten, waren nahezu alle Tische reserviert. Allerdings bleiben einige wenige größere Tische ausgespart, an denen dann verschiedene Gäste Platz nehmen können. Eine gute Idee, für das Haus wegen des höheren Umsatzes und für die fremden Gäste, weil sich daraus anregende Gespräche ergeben können. Das nach angemessener Zeit servierte Essen war richtig lecker und reichlich. Auch das Serviceteam war aufmerksam, fix und freundlich und blieb keine Antwort schuldig. Wer also lokale Küche in guter Qualität genießen möchte, kann getrost im "Ochsen" Halt machen.

Ich will keinem was schlechtes, aber das Essen (5x) sein Geld nicht wert. Wir hatten einen Familienausflug geplant und uns den Ochsen wg. der Nähe und Bewertungen ausgesucht. Tja, lernen durch Schmerz. Das Bier kann man trinken. Das Essen muss ich einfach schlecht bewerten.

Hier kann man nichts falsch machen. Eine urige Kneipe, mit kaltem Bier und gut bürgerlicher Küche. Empfehlung!

Small hidden pub with a lot of character. We were on a town tour and our guide suggested this bar and we are glad she did. The waitress was very polite and friendly. Quoting another this is a hidden gem.

Nach einer negativen Erfahrung und Bewertung (ein grosser Fehler der Kellner), hat der Chef des Restaurant sich die Mùhe gemacht mich zu kontaktieren um die Situation zu verstehen und sich persoenlich zu entschuldigen. Dies ist leider nicht mehr ueblich, weswegen ich das Gespráech sehr schaetze. Gerne nahm ich die Entuschuldigung an und freue mich auf ein zukuenftiges Essen dort in meinem náchsten Urlaub!

Wir waren vor Ort essen. Die Bestellaufnahme ging flott das Essen und die Getränke waren schnell da. Was hat uns nicht gefallen. Zum einen, dass unser Essen erst vertauscht wurde und zum zweiten, dass auf dem einen Gericht Schnitzel mit Champingnonsoße ( wir hatten 2x gleich bestellt) nur ¼ Champignon war. Nach dem Hinweis an die Bedienung erwarte ich nicht den Spruch...."Na da ist doch einer", obwohl offensichtlich war, dass auf dem Nachbarteller eine ausreichende Menge Champignons waren und ich darauf hingewiesen habe. Dann noch zu fragen, ob ich gern mehr hätte, erübrigt sich dann. Natürlich! Es wurde dann nochmal mehr draufgemacht. Weiterhin war auch 1 Haar im Essen, was definitiv nicht von unseren Häuptern war. Ich hatte die Bedienung nach dem Essen darauf hingewiesen, aber sie war wohl im Stress und sagte nur "Achso" und räumte dann ab. Eine unbefriedigende Antwort. Ansonsten war das Essen in Ordnung. Desweiteren ist unser Kleinkind im Restaurant gestürzt und es musste dann der Arzt geholt werden. Das ist nicht das Thema des Restaurants. Was aber das Thema ist und dafür gibt es zu den obigen Punkten ein Mangelhaft, ist dass sich niemand von der Belegschaft verantwortlich fühlte uns zu helfen. Wahrscheinlich aus Unsicherheit o.ä. .Wir mussten dann nach Eiswürfeln zur Kühlung fragen. Die erste Kellnerin hatte keine oder wusste es nicht und gab uns ein nasses Küchentuch. Erst nach nochmaligen Nachfragen bei einer anderen Kellnerin wurden Eiswürfel gefunden und uns gereicht. Nach einiger Zeit kam dann doch eine Kellnerin und erkundigte sich und gab ein paar Hinweise, während der Betrieb weiterlief. Ich kann nicht beurteilen, inwiefern das Personal in Erste-Hilfe geschult ist, aber bei mir kam an, dass business as usual wichtiger ist als tatkräftig die Eltern in einem Notfall zu unterstützen und sei es nur dabei zu sein. Auch ein Angebot in der Ausnahmesituation den Notarzt zu rufen wurde nicht gemacht. Wir mussten dann selbst anrufen.

Nettes traditionelles Wirtshaus mit rustikalem Ambiente und gutbürgerlicher Küche. Sehr leckerer Federweisser, leckere Bratwürste mit Kraut oder Gulasch. Der Service war bei unserem Besuch etwas gemischt. Zunächst wurden wir von einer anscheinend sehr gestressten Dame empfangen, die uns recht robust darauf hinwies dass man viel zu tun habe und es daher lange dauern würde. Umso netter dann die Bedienung am Tisch, bei der wir uns willkommen gefühlt haben. Das Ambiente ist typisch, einfach und gemütlich.

Sehr nettes Lokal direkt im Ortszentrum. Leckeres Bier und eine regionale Speisekarte. Besser reservieren.
