Gasthaus Wanderheim in Mainz

We stopped by the Wanderheim Inn for dinner for the first time today, after a long hike through the Lenneberg Forest. Initially, we were pleasantly surprised that they serve hot meals throughout the day. We had veal liver and baked redfish, both deliciously prepared, and the liver was extra tender. Even the side salad was excellent. The food is freshly prepared and solid, home-style cooking. Unfortunately, it was already too cold for the pleasant beer garden, so we sat inside with plenty of space and enjoyed the very attentive and friendly service. The decor is rather plain, hence only 4 stars.

The food was good, home-style cooking. Delicious, with generous portions and a good selection. The service was attentive, very friendly, and quick. The ambiance isn't exactly spectacular, but it's clean, and there's usually plenty of parking. Another plus point is the 24-hour opening hours.

We had to wait a very long time for our food and finally decided to stop eating and ask for the bill straight away. When we confronted the owner about the long wait, he reacted aggressively and disrespectfully—and even banned us from the restaurant. Because of this experience, I will not be visiting the restaurant again.

Warning!!! If you just want a drink you are gently turned away and told that you have to sit with others even though there are at least 50 free seats. On top of that there were no chairs or only one free at the occupied tables, which means we were not welcome as we just wanted a drink. We have been there many times and we have had this scenario three times now; it always depends on the mood of the owner. The food is not always bad but it is nothing special, just okay. This was the last time for us and I personally hope for the sake of this boss that people stay away at the weekend. Unfriendly type, this boss who prefers to sit with a barrier at the entrance. PS this is the pure truth, no exaggeration.

The conditions were very friendly, but unfortunately the boss wasn't. That's how you scare away guests.

Good, homely fare, the service is very friendly, and you feel at home. The vegetarian options are unfortunately very limited, but the spaghetti with chanterelle mushrooms is highly recommended!

Unfortunately, the food we ordered wasn't particularly tasty. ° All the meat on the plate was lukewarm to cold ° The skewers were tough and lukewarm ° The fries were greasy, lukewarm, and dry ° The side salad had a sweet, instant dressing ° The schnitzel had few chanterelle mushrooms and very little sauce It's a shame, but for the price, we expect much more...

The food was anything but good. Vegetable casserole with watery sauce. Apparently, water from the vegetables was seeping into the béchamel sauce. The cheese wasn't baked for long enough, and the vegetables were still cold in the middle. Carrots weren't peeled properly, and broccoli had brown spots. Four croquettes came out of the fryer crispy. Staff were friendly, and drinks and food came quickly.

Solid, home-style cooking, beautifully shady in the forest.

Good, rustic food (German/Croatian), fairly priced, and with a large outdoor seating area. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is located right on the edge of the forest with ample parking.

We were there again for the first time in a while, it was always very nice in the summer.

We own a restaurant ourselves, so we're amazed that someone like her still exists...hats off to what she did, and she was still friendly and laughing with funny sayings...rare these days. The food, drinks, and terrace are beautiful, but the service is amazing. She rocks the place, with a good mood even when guests are annoying and stressful. The food was delicious. The girls were great. Nice and fast...but the old man doesn't fit in and unfortunately puts a damper on the whole atmosphere...sorry, nothing against older people, but he's a no-go.

The salad is super good, the rest is very good; we'd go back anytime. The staff is very friendly, and we always bring our dog. Which isn't a problem in the beer garden. If we want to eat inside, we let you know in advance because of the cat. One of the nicest restaurants in Gonsenheim with good parking. We also celebrated our son's confirmation here—it was fantastic.

Hadn't been there for a long time. My food was okay but my wife had croquettes that were of poor quality. The ice cream for dessert had a lot of crystals in it which wasn't so pleasant. It used to be better there.

Very tasty every time (although I don't want to try too many because many dishes have mushrooms in them) The waitresses are always very friendly, the price-performance ratio is great and it's quick too!

We wanted to have a drink, enjoy some coffee. But since today is Easter Sunday, we were only allowed to do so if we also eat something. That's absurd. Immediately after opening the place was completely empty. As far as I'm concerned, it can stay that way.

Hello. We celebrated our wedding 4 years ago and it was an unforgettable day for us, we and our guests really enjoyed it. Wishes were taken into account by the boss and fulfilled to the fullest! Wir fühlen uns wohl und kommen sehr gerne. Immer werden wir zuvorkommend bedient und auf meine Extrawünsche stellt sich die Küche stets wohlwollend ein. Auch wenn ich Hilfe benötige (Rollstuhl) legt der Chef selbst Hand an und schiebt ihn die Rampe hoch. Persönliches Interesse wird groß geschrieben und es ist zu spüren, das " man seine Gäste kennt und Wert auf sie legt".

We wanted to spend a cozy evening there today, but since our furry friend wasn't allowed in there, I can't recommend this place in any way, especially since this restaurant is almost entirely surrounded by forest. The dog is allowed almost everywhere. I have no understanding for that.

The food was plentiful and delicious. We will try more food. It's a little out of the way and it was busy, but there was no hectic service.

Das Essen ist ja ganz ok. Was das Ambiente und die Sauberkeit betrifft, so besteht hier aber extremer Nachholbedarf. Hier ist die Zeit stehen geblieben genauso wie die vielen Spinnweben in den Ecken und das schmutzige Mobiliar. Hier bedarf es dringend einer Renovierung was auch auf die Toiletten zutrifft.

The beer garden looks great and the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately my husband's portion was very sad. He ordered a steak with fried potatoes. We were asked what the steak should be, we said medium please. Unfortunately it was done and the fried potatoes weren't enough. It was an amount of 2 tablespoons full. Unfortunately, it's far too expensive.

If you come by around 3 p.m. in the afternoon and “just” want to have a drink, you will be rudely turned away, even though 3/4 of the tables are free. In general, there is no value placed on friendliness and seriousness. Just look at the owner's reactions to other negative reviews here...

There were two of us there today and we just wanted to have a drink and we were turned away with the words that it wasn't possible unless you also eat something because you had to employ four people in the kitchen. Absolutely not recommended. Unfortunately I have to give one star because otherwise you can't post anything.

Nice restaurant in the middle of the countryside. Lots of choice of food and drinks, the food was very fresh, tasty and lovingly prepared, you could taste it. The service was great and friendly. Really a very cozy place and can only be recommended. Gladly again

Getting a vegetarian main course is almost too much to ask for in this restaurant - a vegan one would probably be completely impossible.

Very tasty food and good portions. Today we ate asparagus with schnitzel and potatoes. Very good, especially the asparagus still had a nice bite and wasn't so limp, it's for everyone but I like it that way. I'm very full and very satisfied. Gladly again!!!

Wanted to order a table. The boss was on the phone and rudely said just come over. Then we drove there and the waitress asked kindly if we had reserved. We told them that the boss said they should come that way. She wanted to assign us a place. Then her boss came and rounded out the conditions and told us there was no space on the outside, only on the inside. There were enough places available. They will never see us again and we were there many times. I'm sorry about the friendly condition.

Gasthaus am Sportplatz gelegen. Pizza und Pasta selbstgemacht und sehr lecker. Es gibt einen Raum mit Trennwand, wo man geschlossene Gesellschaft betreiben kann und seine Ruhe hat. Personal sehr freundlich, manchmal bei viel Betrieb etwas überfordert.

Das Schnitzel war in Ordnung. Die Pommes nicht gerade die hochwertigsten. Der Beilagensalat kam in 0815 Marnier daher, ertränkt in Majo-Dressing. Daher auch nur 3 Sterne.

Essen ist super. Der Service und der Besitzer super nett. Extrawünsche werden berücksichtigt.

War soweit alles gut, ist halt sehr groß und deshalb auch relativ laut.

Mittlerweile haben wir das Wanderheim in den Sommermonaten für uns entdeckt. Faire Preise, gutbürgerliche Küche, die auch individuelle Wünsche erfüllt. Der Servicemitarbeiter ist sehr emphatisch und zuvorkommend. Der Chef wacht in gehobener Position über das Geschehen und hat die Organisation im Griff! Wir kommen gerne wieder!!!!👍🏻👍🏻

Man sitzt gemütlich, sehr nette Bedienung gut bürgerliche Küche. Ein Stern ziehe ich für die frühe Schließung der Küche ab. Wurde gegen 20.15 Uhr weggeschickt ,da die Küche bereits geschlossen war.

Super Geschmack, für mich war die Portion etwas klein. Empfehlung!

Gut bürgerliche Küche in schönen Ambiente. Leider standen wir beim 1. Besuch nach langer Zeit vor verschlossener Tür weil es eine Schließung außerhalb der Reihe war. Nun wollten wir einen 2. Versuch starten, leider wieder ohne Erfolg, da die warme Küche nur bis 20:30 Uhr geöffnet ist. Sehr schade das nicht länger geöffnet ist, gerade im Sommer… :-/

Haben die Mädels in ihrer Freizeit getroffen und waren von der Truppe begeistert. Wurden so auf das Lokal aufmerksam. Leider von uns zu weit entfernt würden aber alleine wegen diesem Personal zu euch kommen.👍👍

Sehr schöne Lage, gemütlicher Biergarten, gut bürgerliche, schmackhafte Küche. Bestens geeignet für größere Veranstaltungen, Vereine etc. Gerne bei Gelegenheit wieder.

Salat immer knackig und lecker. Baguette leider zu trocken. Nur der Preis ist etwas zu hoch

Die Lage ist natürlich top, leider kann das Essen bei weitem nicht mithalten. Der Besitzer/ Türsteher ließ uns selbst den Kinderstuhl tragen, als er uns widerwillig den Tisch wechseln ließ. Sein Abschied war mehr als abweisend. Die Bedienung war nett und recht aufmerksam. Das Essen dauerte -trotz 3 kleiner hungriger Kinder und einem halb leeren Restaurant- sehr lange. Vor zwei Jahren waren die Spätzle (so sagte es damals die Kellnerin) selbstgemacht, jetzt waren sie einfache Metro-Spätzle. Der Salat war welk, das Hähnchen sehnig und nur mit Öl gewürzt. Nach der Bitte um mehr Essig, kam erneut Dressing - also Öl. Für mich ungenießbar. Die Pommes waren ungesalzen und die Schnitzel hart. Der Pfannkuchen mit Eis ist mit Marmelade gefüllt, was nirgends steht und eben nicht jedem schmeckt. Auf der Karte fehlen die Angaben zu Allergenen und mit nur zwei vegetarischen Gerichten ist nicht wirklich für jeden etwas dabei. Für die Lage direkt am Wildpark überraschend kinderunfreundlich! Alles in allem weder lecker, noch schön, noch günstig.

Der perfekte, rustikale Ort für eine einfache, fettige Speise. Das Essen einfach und sehr lecker, mit großen Portionen zu sehr fairen Preisen. Personal meistens sehr schnell und recht freundlich. Dieses Restaurant ist nicht vergleichbar mit einem schicken Restaurant mit kleinen hochqualitativen Speisen zu hohen Preisen. Es ist ideal, im Sommer Abends nach einem Spaziergang draußen zu sitzen und sich ein Jägerschnitzel zu gönnen. Jedes Jahr mehrfach wieder!

Es ist eine sehr einfache Gaststätte, wie ja der Name schon nahelegt. Wir hatten dort Zagreber und Champion Schnitzel, die sehr lecker waren. Das Allgäuer Büble Bier ist ebenfalls gut, und der trockene Dornfelder ist zwar nicht sensationell, aber gut. Wir wurden sehr nett und prompt bedient und haben uns dort wohl gefühlt.

Nettes Personal, gutes Essen.... Nur leider eine Enttäuschung erlebt, wir waren mit der ganzen Familie dort Essen (zum Wildessen) telefonisch alles auch abgeklärt, vor Ort war dann nicht von dem da was abgeklärt war. Nur noch 3x Entenbrust und rehwildgulasch. Waren 25 Personen. Seine Erklärung war, daß es Preislich teurer geworden wäre als anfangs angenommen. Finde das der Wirt hätten anrufen können und bescheid geben können.

War okay, nicht mehr, nicht weniger. Gut bürgerlich. Wenn man mich fragen würde, was war die USP? Ich wüsste es nicht, warum ich nochmal kommen sollte. Sportheim-Flair, Preise eher $$$, Auswahl breit, aber nicht tief. Bedienung okay. Essen geschmacklich in Ordnung, aber P-L passte irgendwie nicht. Alles in allem 3/5 Sterne.
