Great for sitting outside in the summer, but I can't recommend the hot food at the self-service counter. The fries are old, the burgers are too salty, the ham hocks are tough,... The food isn't cheap either, but it should still be tasty.

If you love large beer gardens, this is the place for you. It's incredibly spacious, with endless seating. The food is delicious. There's a playground if you're traveling with children.

Compared to Waldheim, I found the food at Forsthaus Kasten to be substandard. The sauce, which is very important to me, tasted revolting, disgusting. The dumplings, small as dumplings, tasted chemically. But the prices are inflated accordingly. The next day, my skin was flushed. Honestly? Not again!

For us it is a very important place to relax and unwind from everyday stress with good food and very friendly staff....keep it up, especially the new boss has everything well under control

The location of the large beer garden, surrounded by forest and meadows, is very beautiful; there's plenty to see, especially for children, including animals and nature. The food on offer is rather average. The pork sausages with sauerkraut were very good, and the burger with shredded beef looked better than it tasted.

The beef burger was tasty, but unfortunately cold and the fries were soggy. The spare ribs were dry and barely meaty.

I haven't had such a disappointing meal in a long time. The "roast pork" consisted almost entirely of fat, hardly any meat, the dumplings were tiny, and the whole thing was served cold. The schnitzel was also unconvincing in terms of taste, and even the fries are of better quality at any swimming pool. The prices are disproportionate to the service. There's no waiter service, only self-service, and you get the impression that the only thing that matters here is profit, rather than investing in quality or service. For me, this was definitely a one-time visit – not recommended.

For some reason, Google wants me to review this place. I've never been there and can't comment on it, but I can't convince Google to stop showing it to me. So I'm giving a neutral review, just for peace of mind.

Huge beer garden with proud prices

This is a very nice Beer Garden with a large variety of food on the menu. Everything we ordered was very tasty and served very friendly. There is a nice big playground for the children and even though it was a beautiful day in summer there were plenty of open tables available. We will definitely be back. It was nice to be able to speak Afrikaans with some of the servers.

Beautifully situated beer garden, prices, like almost everywhere, are rather expensive: two liters of beer, a large pretzel, and an Obazda (traditional German sausage) for €35. You have to be wasp-proof at the clearing stations.

The Forsthaus Kasten beer garden is a real highlight! Located in the middle of the forest, it's very quiet and relaxed – perfectly accessible by car, bike, or even on a hike. The huge playground is particularly noteworthy: several sandboxes, a rotating pyramid, swings, and much more. It's an absolute paradise for children, and parents can relax while the little ones play. The atmosphere is also impressive: the tables are conveniently spaced, allowing for privacy and not crowded seating. In addition to the classic beer garden area with gravel flooring, there's also a spacious green area with beer tables, chairs, and parasols – very cozy! The culinary offerings are extensive and varied. Drinks are available at the tavern, and there are several food counters – from fresh salads to hearty, more meat-focused dishes to desserts. A visit is definitely worth it – a beer garden with a special atmosphere, ideal for families as well as those who simply want to relax and enjoy themselves. Highly recommended!

First of all, the ambiance is very nice. Spacious, with plenty of sun and shade, and clean restrooms. Unfortunately, the food is the exact opposite. Small portions, a vegetable pan dripping in oil, balsamic dressing served in a bag with the Greek salad, and flavorless Obazter (traditional cheese). The radish was OK, but unfortunately, despite asking, they ran out of salt – of course, you only get salt after you checkout… everyone can decide for themselves how it tastes. Pretzels were also OK. We drank the spritzers, which were all very tasty, but unfortunately, there were wasps swimming in them, which they scooped out with a spoon, etc. Honestly, people… I might not prepare so many drinks if I have such a wasp problem. The drinks were a real challenge – you shouldn't be allergic to them. The spritzer is OK at just under €5, but the food is massively overpriced. Better to use the beer garden like we used to, buy drinks, and bring your own food. This is certainly the better idea in terms of quality and definitely cheaper.

Surrounded by lush forest, this beer garden on the outskirts of Munich is a great place to spend time with family or friends. The food and drinks are plentiful and affordable, even for families. It's great that you can bring your own food. There's plenty of space for parking and quiet seating. We highly recommend it.

We were last at Forsthaus Kasten about nine years ago. Two weeks ago was the first time we were back, and we have to say, why didn't we do it much sooner? It's such a beautiful beer garden and the perfect place to celebrate a birthday, for example. We were invited there with a larger group, and it was simply wonderful. The playground is great for children, and the large lawn with a soccer field is also ideal. We'll definitely be back more often when the weather's nice.

Very dry, tasteless Obazda (traditional sausage). The edges of the sausage salad were "stained" despite being covered in foil. A half-pint of beer to get yourself costs €5.50, a disgrace.

A superb beer garden on a very large area. You're not sitting shoulder to shoulder, but rather outdoors in nature, surrounded by meadows and forests. There's a soccer field and a children's playground off to the side for families, while those without children can enjoy some peace and quiet on the other side. Plenty of free parking. The staff are very friendly. The Forsthaus also makes its own syrup from various fruits; it's delicious; I highly recommend it. Have fun!

Nie wieder !!! Seit einigen Wochen auf Biergarten / Wurstsalat Tour. Das hier haut dem Fass den Boden raus. Ein lieblos angerichteter in Frischhaltefolie vorgepackter Teller mit ein paar Scheiben „Wurst“ und ein bisschen Grün als „Dekoration“. Dazu ein unglaublich fader Dressing. Das ganze für heftige 9,80 € und nicht einmal Brot gibt’s dazu ! Nie wieder !!!!

Visually attractive with large chestnut trees. Pricey. There's really nothing worthwhile for vegetarians or vegans. There are several beer gardens nearby that already offer hot and cold drinks. I'm not vegan, but I think it's nice when they offer something for my companion. I really like the various fruit spritzers here. Syrup is available for 7.90. Coke is also served in glass bottles. Great. There used to be numerous events. The bands are always the same now, more for an older crowd. There used to be bouncy castles and mini golf. None of that exists anymore. It won't be worth going there soon.

I went there for the first time with a friend and was absolutely thrilled. They have a great vegetarian selection. The service was excellent, and the seating options were varied, offering something for everyone. The value for money was also good. High praise indeed. We'd love to come back.

I ordered the dish "Meatballs with Potato Salad" for €10.50. Unfortunately, the result was quite disappointing. The first thing I noticed: The portion size is disproportionate to the price. On the plate were two very small meatballs – more comparable in size and appearance to IKEA meatballs than to what you'd imagine a classic Bavarian meatball to be. The potato salad was plentiful, tasted good, and had a slightly mushy texture. Overall, it felt more like a fast-food cafeteria portion than a lovingly prepared meal. The taste was okay, neither particularly good nor particularly bad. The meatballs were thoroughly cooked and lightly seasoned, but lacked any particular flavor. The potato salad tasted homemade. What was truly disappointing, however, was the feeling of fullness – or rather, the lack of it. For €10.50, I expected a substantial lunch, but I was neither satisfied nor surprised by the taste. The dish would have been more suitable as a small snack for half the price.

Ein schön gelegner Biergarten mit gefühlten 10000 Plätzen. Alles gut organisiert und sauber. Ich verstehe nicht warum man das bayrische Nationalgericht Brezn nicht frisch serviert sondern aufgebackene Ware serviert. Schmeckt einfach nicht. Der Obatzn ist mit 9,80 € viel zu teuer für die Mini Portion und auch da habe ich schon bessere bekommen. Leider sehr enttäuschend. Einige wenige km weiter ist es besser.

The food was okay—fair enough, but nothing special. What bothered me a bit was that the trays of leftover food piled up and weren't cleared away regularly. Nevertheless, the beer garden is beautifully situated, well-maintained, and ideal for families or cyclists looking to take a break. The atmosphere is pleasant, but the service could be improved. What I liked was that you can pay by card.

Unfortunately, a 50-minute line makes a visit to the beer garden no fun. It would be best to have a second pub like before, and the problem would be solved.

We were there on May 1st and the beer garden was very well attended. You had to wait in line for a while, but then everything went very quickly. The price of €4.10 for half a liter of tap water in the beer garden is outrageously high.

Great, large and shady beer garden, often with live music. It's nice to sit and linger while the children are at the playground or watching the animals. However, when there is a lot of activity, it takes far too long at the bars and you have to wait in line to get to the entrance, sometimes thirty minutes. For the size of the beer garden, one bar is simply not enough. The prices are rather high, the Obatzda costs just under €10 without pretzels or bread.

Wonderfully quiet place in the middle of nature. There is live music on selected weekends in summer. From time to time you can also buy Steckerlfisch and bread baked on site. Another highlight is the Spitz with syrup from our own production (also as a spritzer). Friendly guests and friendly staff. Here, live and let live. Dogs are welcome.

Great for children, but if you look at the prices like they do here, the quality should also be good. Unfortunately, it is the opposite here. In recent years prices have been getting higher and the quality of the food has been getting worse. Dry food, sometimes lukewarm, better after a day at home than supposedly fresh here. Ideally, you always take your own food with you. There's little you can do wrong with the drinks. The coffee from the fully automatic machine is also unreasonable for the price.

The beer garden season is finally open again. Our first destination this weekend was Forst Kasten under new management. Prices are now rising everywhere, but I'm not sure whether it's justified in this case to charge €5.50 for 0.5 liters of non-alcoholic wheat beer (and all other beers). An Obazda without bread €9.80!!!!!! My husband ate pork sausages with sauerkraut (also for €9.80), which were ok in terms of quantity, but unfortunately completely tasteless. I don't fully understand the pricing, because if you offer self-service and save on operating staff, it should actually be a little cheaper. The new tenant said in a newspaper interview that he would like the prices to be cheaper than his predecessor - that still has room for improvement.

Biergarten und Parkplatz in XXL-Format. Mitten im Forstenrieder Park erwartet den Gast ein riesiger Biergarten mit schattigen Plätzchen unter Kastanienbäumen. Für Kinder steht ausgiebig Platz zur Verfügung. Die frisch gegrillten Hähnchen stehen ab Mittag zur Verfügung und schmecken mit einer Mass Bier und einer großen Breze am allerbesten. Am sonnigen Wochenenden kommt das Ausflugslokal trotz der enormen Ausmasse an seine Kapazitätsgrenzen.

Unfortunately everything is quite expensive, with self-service and the 0.5l drinks cost well over 5 euros, that's clearly too much in my opinion, Munich or not. At Oktoberfest I treated myself to half a chicken, which was well seasoned but totally dry and therefore difficult to eat. Service was rather unmotivated, no greeting and extremely taciturn, even though there was little going on. Paid 32 euros for chicken with fries and 2x 0.5 drinks despite self-service - not exactly family-friendly.

Wir waren heute nach langer Zeit mal wieder im Forsthaus Kasten. Die Sparerips waren gut und viel. Der Preis wohl nur heute mit 10 Euro super günstig. Die Sosse war auch gut, die Breze frisch und knackig. Der Preis fürs Bier/Radler mit 5,40 € auch im Rahmen. Und das Ambiente ist sowieso einzigartig mitten im Wald. Die Band hat den ganzen Nachmittag Oldies gespielt.... Jazz bis Rock, war echt ein toller Besuch im Forsthaus Kasten.

Just like I read today Forsthaus Kasten will close its doors at the end of the beer garden season and will not reopen in 2025. Which I personally think is a shame, as it is the most pleasant beer garden I know. Not overcrowded, very few tourists and more locals in the area.

We were in the beer garden on September 5th, 2024. The dishes on offer (Kässpatzen or Bratwurscht with fried potatoes) were sublime because they had definitely been warmed up several times. It was hardly surprising that neither of us could keep these meals with us for long.
