The ambiance is absolutely lovely. We had a burger. It was very good and plentiful. I wish they offered some healthier options, too. For example, wraps or fajitas with avocado dip.

A nice, cozy place to enjoy the sun... Beautiful location, right on the lake. Even with the sand on the ground, you get a bit of a holiday feeling. The Tiki Bar is beautifully designed, making it a great place to chill, especially in the summer...

Everything is self-service; you can order items, but you have to pick them up yourself at the counter. The atmosphere is really good, though. Prices: Personally, I find them expensive.

This would be such a great beach bar if it weren't so run down. A lot of things are neglected, like the furniture and decor. If you spruced everything up, hosted a DJ or disco on Friday night, people would swarm the place. But as it is, it's on the brink of collapse. What a pity.

It's an incredibly beautiful location in good weather. Even with children, you can easily have a great time here.

A qualified recommendation. The ambiance is scenic, but the seats are too low for older people. My western burger with good fries was nothing to complain about, but my wife's spaghetti dish was a disaster swimming in a sea of oil and grease. The staff seemed listless, but not unfriendly. We ordered around 7:15 p.m., the food seemed ready at 7:20 p.m., and at 7:30 p.m., a less-than-motivated waiter informed us that the restaurant was closing at 8 p.m. It's a shame; we would have liked to stay longer in the lovely ambiance, but they were apparently tired of it.

Well, great location, food and drinks were okay. When I order an iced coffee, I don't like the one from a 1-liter carton. Truly terrible.

Disappointment across the board – only the location is convincing We have visited the Essgut beach bar in Offenburg repeatedly over the past few years – if only because of its attractive location right on the water and its proximity to our walking route. Unfortunately, the quality has steadily deteriorated – to a degree we would not have expected. We haven't ordered food there for a while. The quality of the food was simply disappointing on previous visits, and the price-performance ratio, in our opinion, was completely inadequate. The operation is entirely self-service – you have to pick up the food yourself; they only take care of clearing it away. That would be fine if the quality was good, but it isn't. Therefore, in recent months, we have limited ourselves to the occasional drink. Unfortunately, we have now come to the conclusion that even that is no longer recommended. The cocktails – in our case, an Aperol Spritz and a Hugo – were disappointing in terms of taste. For €8 each (self-service!), we received products that not only resembled watered-down, cheap versions, but clearly didn't even contain the original ingredients. The drinks were prepared in the adjoining room—apparently for a reason. The taste was immediately clear: This isn't Aperol, but a cheap blend. The massive headache that evening unfortunately only confirmed this impression. Conclusion: The location is and remains beautiful—but that alone isn't enough. Those who value quality, transparency, and hospitality should currently seek alternatives. Our tip: Bringing your own drink at the nearby Gifizsee is more honest, cheaper—and much more relaxing.

Nice ambiance, but the tables and chairs were covered in sticky tape, and there were used tissues on and next to the chairs, even though we were the first guests. The burgers we ordered (€19!) were frozen and barely edible. For the money, I expect more, much more.

Nice food, good prices, really nice place with a great view over the lake. Very convenient if you are using the motorhome stopover next door too.

A truly beautifully situated location. Fantastic view over the small lake. Extremely spacious grounds. Variously equipped areas within the grounds. There's also a small sandy beach area. There's also a "roof"/shade. There are summer drinks – typical of a bar. We only ate cakes and snacks, and enjoyed various coffees and drinks, but they were all very, very tasty. We ordered them via self-service at the bar in the main building. Also very interesting are the many wooden "sculptures" = root ball "constructions" that look so "enchanted" that only "Mother Nature" could have designed them! An extremely pleasant stay. I would definitely go back. Highly recommended! Visit every summer! You can truly unwind and take a step back.

If it were up to me, I'd give it 0 stars, we were so disappointed. My husband and I were there a while ago and ordered two Limonencello Spritzes. They were absolutely undrinkable, so we sent the drink back and had it made again. It tasted just as awful, almost like wine with something else in it, which had absolutely nothing to do with the cocktail. Then we ordered an Aperol Spritz, and again we were disappointed. My conclusion: We definitely won't be coming back. If I'm paying enough for a cocktail like that, I want to get the right value for my money.

We had a delicious meal here, and it's free access to the lake. I'd love to come back again.

If you want warm drinks in the summer, this is the place for you. If you complain, you'll be handed a glass of ice cubes without comment.

A nice place with a beach bar feel, but the menu is quite limited and the prices a bit high for very simple dishes. The fries are a red flag, they're super salty... Go there for a drink, yes, but we won't be eating there again. Also a downside is the restrooms.

The ambiance was very nice, that's all. The food isn't recommended. I had a frozen burger with 'knock me to death' hard fries. Not recommended. If you're looking for a drink and a beach bar, this is the place for you. Although you'll often have to wait in line, as there's no table service.

Nice location. It is 33 degrees you order a large beer. You get a piss lukewarm beer. They take the glasses out of the dishwasher without rinsing them. The glasses are red hot. And they tap the beer in there. What stupid people 😡 and everywhere there is garbage on the floor and tables.

Very, very good. The menu may be small, but the quality is good. Since I have celiac disease and follow a gluten-free diet, the burgers were served without a bun on fries. I was still full. Thanks to the great team.

Unfortunately, I have to revise my impression from a few years ago. It's been renovated, and not for the better. The Ibizan and vacation vibe has given way to more practical seating. No more loungers, no more "wooden huts." The food is completely overpriced. I paid €16 for two tomatoes, a mozzarella from Aldi, and a tiny piece of baguette. The cocktails are made with the cheapest alcohol. The mojito was far too sour, the other cocktail was overly sweet. The man serving the food was completely overwhelmed, and food sat in the pass for ages without being handed out. In general, the service has unfortunately deteriorated, just like the rest of the place. You can charge such prices, but then you have to offer the service, ambiance, and quality of the food and drinks accordingly.

The prices are way too high for a self-service bar. And at the cocktail bar, you wait forever for someone to read the cocktail instructions. And the manager has a depressed expression on her face.

A nice bar with a good location on Lake Gifiz, with slightly overpriced food (tasty, but nothing exceptional), and the drinks didn't really blow us away. The service was friendly. A relaxed beach atmosphere with good music. The lake is a great place to cool off in the summer, and a walk around it is also worthwhile. There are animal enclosures nearby with alpacas, goats, etc.

Actually great location and beautifully laid out. Unfortunately a bit dingy. The chairs weren't that clean and the toilets also seemed unkempt. When it comes to eating, the burgers are recommended. The sausage salad wasn't to my taste at all. The Strasbourg we ordered came without cheese and was swimming in dressing.

Went to Essgut today because it said it was open online. When you get there, the door says “open from 5 p.m.” We waited an extra hour and when we came to the door again there was a new notice saying "closed today" This is really very annoying.

Beach equipped at lake level. It feels like we're on vacation. There are deckchairs, water, cocktails and a superbly appointed place. You can eat and drink there. Prices are correct. Gargantuan portions. To do if you are in the Offenburg region.

Self-service restaurant with a beautiful, tasteful South Sea flair on the swimming lake in Offenburg. The portion of salad with strips of turkey breast was large and tasty, and the drinks were very well chilled in the hot weather.

At first glance, the location offers the ambience of a beach bar, but it is marred by poor service and overpriced dishes that are closer in quality to a commercial kitchen. MC would be a better choice. And then there are the incompetent employees. Enjoy the ambience with a glass of tap water and stay away from the rest.

So I think it's cheeky! If I order a Fanta, I want the original Fanta or Bluna and not Europerl Fanta (4.50€ a glass) from Edeka G&G where the bottle costs 0.30 euros if you order a water (G&G 0.15€ a bottle) for 5.50€ exactly that Same Europerl that's 2 boxes of what they charge for a bottle. We won't be visiting the restaurant as a family anymore

16 euros for a frozen cheeseburger with no cheese and limp fries. There is no service, it is self-service. Hygiene in the toilets is terrible! Drinks are okay and the ambience is nice, but I would advise against the food due to the prices and quality.

It's a totally exotic place, close to Strasbourg. The setting makes us believe that we are close to the sea... it feels really good....

A great place for a cool drink in the summer months. Not too crowded, you can find space on deck chairs, in covered pavilions or outdoors. For me personally, the self-service is a little annoying, but otherwise it's good value for money and recommended.

Haven't been there in years, mostly because we had a bad experience once seven or eight years ago. Due to a visit to Lake Gifiz, we took the opportunity to test EssGut again after years. The quality of the food is decent, the portions are at least larger than what I remember. Overall, the price is already high for fast food, but that has always been part of the image at EssGut. The ambience is of course special and certainly the highlight, even if some areas have not been renewed for a long time. But still an eye-catcher. For children there is a small play area in the front area with a house and climbing frame. In the evening, of course, there are more party crowds and shishas, ​​but with children I would rather go during the day.

Very nice place, very well decorated looks like a man is by the sea in a luxury hotel on the beach... but the service is catastrophic!!! I was there yesterday and you have to serve yourself at the counter no one wants to work... That old man who was at the counter was so unfriendly, I ordered 3 espressos and asked for a tablet so I could carry it to my table, he didn't want to give it to me, he told me: "Your table is not far".. .I had to come and go several times carrying sugar, spoons and everything! I think he is a French pensioner. No one else is at the counter. I'll never go there again even though the ambience is exactly my thing!!

The last time we were here was around three years ago. Today we took another walk around the lake. Finally, we looked at the location and the price list. No comparison at all to before. Unclean and rather dingy to look at. Not inviting at all. We were particularly shocked by the prices. This is usury at the highest level. Absolutely disgraceful and unapologetic. Not even with supposedly higher costs. We're just gone and won't be coming back. A pity.

That's probably the biggest impudence of what there is to eat there - the bratwurst was on the grill for probably 5 hours hard and not edible and everything was too expensive for 2 baggets, 1 Fanta and a beer I paid 31 euros I will never go there again

Never had such a bad meal at such a price and it was self-service too. Burgers way too well cooked, fries too dry and very strangely seasoned. Dishes dirty. Tables, chairs, chair cushions dirty. Broken boards and tripping hazards everywhere. Staff more just present than motivated. Despite the fact that there was very little going on, the dishes were piling up at the dish return counter. In total, two people paid 50 euros for two burgers, a water in a plastic bottle, a 0.33l beer and a 0.4l cola - at Burger King or McDonald's it doesn't taste any worse and it's much cleaner.

Complete rip off €18 for a skinny burger with some fries. Tomato mozzarella for €16. Bartender has no idea about cocktails... €8 for pre-prepared cups of cheap alcohol. Waiters can't open their mouths. Not recommendable... Take something to eat and drink with you and sit outside. Never again

Am 1. Mai wollten wir das schöne Wetter ausnutzen und haben das Essgut besucht. Wir waren sehr enttäuscht über die sehr unfreundliche Bedienung hinter der Theke und den "neuen" Rosewein (die Marke hat gewechselt), das Glas war zudem noch halbvoll mit Crash-Eis). Es war viel los, aber die Freundlichkeit sollte gegeben sein, sonst ist es der falsche Job). Wenn man auf die Sonnentage im Jahr angewiesen ist, wäre etwas mehr Service angebracht.

Service is terrible! Why do you have to give an established restaurant such a French name now? Outside there is now “Plage de sable”, which means sandy beach. Inside, the employees walk around with shirts that say Plage 66, and some of the chairs still have food on them. The service is underground. This chaotic queuing at several counters is an imposition. It may well be that you get your drink, the buzzer buzzes, but you can't get to the food counter because people are already waiting there. Something like that is impossible. And I don't understand why you really let every customer ask "can I have ketchup?" instead of just putting the ketchup in front of the counter. You could even avoid waste with a large ketchup or mayo dispenser. But the best thing of all was the reason why you can't pay by card: “we don't have an EC cash machine!”. Therefore: never go there again! The food was ok but expensive. But that’s why there’s the second star. EDIT Summer 2021: The name has changed again. You can now also pay by card. Still, my opinion doesn't change. That was definitely my last visit there. At the entrance you have to register with a French app. Yes, you read that right. Luca doesn't exist. As a reminder: Offenburg is in Germany. There were no pieces of paper for analog customer data collection. The music is annoying. In some corners it is so loud that you can hardly hold a conversation while eating. When we implemented it, it was even worse. A speaker stopped working every minute, which constantly gave you the feeling that your ear was closing. Another drama at the counter: part of my order was ready. They had probably forgotten the wedges. So I was allowed to hold my burger in my hand for five minutes and watch it get cold. But the cola was warm. One star is actually too many for the whole annoyance. I completely ignored the uncomfortable seating options. Ratan furniture without padding on the backrest. Have fun!

Eigentlich schönes Ambiente aber wurde mittlerweile zum Spielplatz. Überall rennende schreiende Kinder. An das badeverbot wird sich nicht gehalten und auch dass Personal interessiert es nicht. Darum sind die meisten Stühle im strandbereich nass. Absolut keine Erholung und Empfehlung mehr.
