El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant & BBQ House in Bad Oeynhausen

I was absolutely thrilled! The staff is incredibly friendly, very attentive, and always accommodating. The atmosphere is lovely and inviting. The selection of dishes is fantastic, and the food itself was truly outstanding – absolutely delicious! There was absolutely nothing to complain about. Full marks and a definite recommendation!

Excellent service, food was good but not like in Mexico.

So, if you're looking for Mexican food, this is the wrong place, unfortunately! A beef soup advertised as spicy was so bland, my homemade chicken soup is more flavorful! There were six of us, and I was lucky enough to try several dishes. Not a single one had typical Mexican spices (so why go out for Mexican food?). My tomato sauce tasted like absolutely nothing; it was even missing salt and pepper, and there wasn't a single Mexican spice in it! And the worst part was, it was incredibly loud! Zero coziness! The concept seems to be like those typical Chinese buffet restaurants: quantity, quantity, quantity, but no quality! What a shame!

The food was very tasty (mixed grill for one person), unfortunately my turkey was a bit dry because it was served on rice. (Perhaps rice or fries would be a good option, so customers can choose.) Friendly staff. We had to wait quite a while for our food to arrive at the table, about 1.5 hours. Please ensure there is working light in the restrooms (Grisse's place). It's very dark.

Excellent service; the staff are friendly and try to make your visit perfect. The portion sizes are perfectly adequate for a "normally hungry adult" and not too small, as some other reviews have mentioned. The prices are average to slightly higher. However, it's worth emphasizing that the meat is high quality (which you can taste) and includes unusual cuts (e.g., bison). There are even a few vegetarian options. Personally, I would have liked a milder version of the chili con carne and some typical peanuts on the table for snacking. The atmosphere is cozy, and even when the restaurant was full, we were still able to have a good conversation across the table in the conservatory. Definitely worth a visit! 👍🏻 I recommend reserving a table in advance, as the restaurant fills up quite quickly after 6:00 PM.

We had two questions that were answered brilliantly, and they also offered us additional suggestions that helped us make our decision. Our server, Marquez, was super friendly and very helpful. I would come back anytime.

I've been there with my mother several times, but this time they've gone above and beyond! They know us and what we order. So far, so good. The food arrived on time, but this time the meat was raw inside instead of medium! I discreetly informed them, and they immediately offered us a new meal, which they then ordered. My meat was still raw, the fries cold but still over-fried! There was no new rice. There were no cutlery either. The sauce was cold and full of blood. Basically, the same meal, just reheated. We were so stunned that we didn't say anything else. As we left, the waiter gave us a threatening look! No thanks, never again.

Four of us went there. We received a very warm welcome and were escorted to our table in the open-air winter garden. Drinks were promptly ordered and delivered. The food was very, very good: steak, pork medallions, enchiladas, and what looked like churros with ice cream. A very nice atmosphere with an ethanol fire on the table. We would gladly come back.

Unfortunately, I don't understand the good reviews. The ambiance is rather average for the prices charged. The service is very slow and unattentive. Apart from the truly delicious bean soup, the food wasn't good at all. The meat was completely overcooked and dry, so you could barely chew it. The portions were very, very small for a grown man. There was hardly any sauce, and you had to order extra for a lot of money. My wife was served the wrong dish first. I spent an incredible amount of money there that evening, but neither of us were full. A real shame. We won't be back.

We went to eat with our eleven-month-old twins and were disappointed: The only high chair was in a corner, and we had to find it ourselves. The Maxi-Cosi was treated unprofessionally: first, they were ordered to put it under my bench seat, then under my legs, and finally precariously on the bench seat next to me. Sitting properly was impossible, let alone eating while holding a child. When I asked to place it where it would least disrupt service, I was met with insinuations, and we decided to leave the restaurant before ordering. After I announced I would write a review, I was threatened with a lawyer; when we refused to pay immediately for a small, opened apple spritzer, I was threatened with police. We considered this inappropriate behavior, especially for families with small children. Afterward, we found a Spanish restaurant in the center of Bad Oeynhausen that we can highly recommend: child-friendly, good food, and professional service.

We've been there several times and have usually been satisfied. But today the service was rather poor and unfriendly, the bill was wrong, the jalapenos on the nachos were very sparse (we ordered several nachos, which unfortunately didn't arrive at the same time), in our opinion the child's meal was not what was ordered (even though the waiter claimed otherwise, but we've also been told a change to a dish when we complained, only to be told the change was different the next time), and the child should have been served first, not last. Even though the other dishes were delicious, this time it was disappointing.

Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food. We know many very good steakhouses and Mexican restaurants in the area and wanted to try this place because of its 4.7 stars. The beef skewer didn't taste fresh, and the wings weren't "traditional" wings, but rather baked/fried and heavily seasoned chicken wings. The ribs didn't come with any sauce or dip either. All in all, a nice place, but the food unfortunately wasn't worth it for us, and we're used to something different from other Mexican restaurants in the same price range (e.g., Pepper's in Bielefeld).

On Good Friday we had the idea of ​​going out to eat before going to the cinema at short notice. From the table reservation over the phone (which was very friendly by the way) to the service and food, it's a solid 5 stars. I live in Germany, but I used to live in the province of Barcelona in Spain - in an area where many native Mexicans live. There you can find authentic Mexican restaurants on every corner with really good food and real taste. This restaurant, on the other hand, looks more like a German dressed up as a Mexican. We ordered nachos and were served a few scattered nachos around a few bowls of sauces in the middle of the plate. Price? 12€ for the simplest version. In Barcelona you get a large, full plate with cheese, jalapeños, ham... and the sauces come separately - as it should be. The burrito... honestly, I don't know what it was - but it had nothing to do with a real Mexican burrito. And to top it off, the first thing the waiter asked us was if we would like to drink wine. Wine? This is rather unusual in a Mexican restaurant. Honestly, I don't understand how this restaurant can have such good reviews. For me it's a clear case of a one star. Anyone who spends more here has probably never tried real Mexican food.

This was the 5th or 6th time we've eaten there. The first two times it was great, then it got worse and worse. Was there last time yesterday. The inside of the meat was completely raw and bloody, even though it was ordered medium. You could count the side dishes (fries) on both hands. 100 euros for 2 people and not being full afterwards. Unfortunately not recommended for the price. There are far better providers in the area.

Four of us ate at El Sombrero and had reserved in advance. As soon as we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant was very busy, which meant the volume was quite high. Unfortunately we had to wait a little longer for our food, but when it was served we were absolutely impressed. The dishes were attractively prepared, tasted excellent and the portions were generous. Overall a great dining experience with authentic Mexican cuisine. We'd love to come back!

Little going on on Sunday lunchtime

Spontaneously got a table on Saturday evening and wasn't disappointed. The staff was very quick and very friendly. No long wait. The place was full and yet it didn't seem hectic. The food also came very quickly. The two of us had the large grill plate for 2 people. Both were very hungry and we went home full! Plenty of it, super tasty. You can safely eat here, it was spontaneous and great!

After shopping we spontaneously decided to eat something. The restaurant was quite full and everything was reserved but we still got a table. The friendly waiters quickly provided us with menu cards and took our order. Drinks and food were served reasonably quickly. The food was beautifully prepared and looked very tasty. The food served was hot and we really enjoyed it. Cocktails, drinks and tequila were great. Overall, it was a great dinner and we felt very comfortable.

Family gathering on Christmas Day for dinner with 18 people. First of all, everything was well organized and the service was always attentive and friendly. The entire meal for all of us (18!) arrived perfectly at the same time. And all the dishes were beautifully prepared to perfection (e.g. steaks). The plates were also nicely decorated.
