Great steaks in a pleasant atmosphere

I've been to El Gaucho many times, but it was never as bad as on Saturday. We were there at 5:00 p.m., and there were no baked potatoes, no Gorgonzola sauce, and the meat was of poor quality, cooked almost well rather than medium. The fillet now costs €50 without any side dish. There's no soap or towels in the men's restroom, and the faucet is loose.

Sorry, I'm from that area myself. The price-performance ratio isn't right. 52 euros for a meal without a side dish? (+ dry side dish = 58.90 euros, without a drink). No, thanks, and I'm happy to eat expensive meals, but then the price-performance ratio has to be right!

You go there for the steak! The most important part. It was too grilled and not at the point where I asked it. I asked medium minus and I received well done. They had no corn and anything we tried was medium for the price. The service was excellent and we had a Brazilian waiter that was very helpful and did his best. I will no go again. Very negative , the intense smell at the restaurant.

Nice atmosphere, grim boss, friendly staff, exorbitant prices (if it's premium meat, that's fine). Still, having to pay extra for everything else is really outrageous for me at that price point! My meat was also overcooked, but still tasty. The side dishes are very poor quality. You can get a good piece of meat elsewhere, even better prepared and at a more reasonable price. I'll avoid this place!

An amazing Argentinian restaurant, it’s the best and oldest one in Europe, it’s running by Argentinian family. Very testy steak and perfect house wine with very reasonable price. Our plates recommended by the waiter Christiano and even the sauce and wine! He just knows what you want and he is professional! The owner was there too. All staff like a family. Don’t miss it if you are in Cologne!

I recently visited this fantastic steakhouse, and it was an experience I won't soon forget! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with a modern yet warm atmosphere. Perfect for a relaxed dinner or a special event. The highlight of the evening was definitely the steak—perfectly prepared, juicy, and incredibly tender. I tried the rib-eye steak, and it was simply divine. The flavor was intense, and the seasonings harmonized perfectly with the meat. The sides were also excellent and complemented the meal wonderfully. The homemade fries and spicy dip were especially delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations without being intrusive. The wine selection was also impressive, and we found a perfect companion to our meal. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for an exceptional steak experience. Definitely not my last visit!

We went to El Gaucho yesterday and were not disappointed. The restaurant has a typically Argentinian flair with subtle Latin American music in the background. As a small appetizer we were given some bread with a delicious spread. For the main course we ordered Argentinian fillet steak "Classic" in medium and medium rare. The cooking was perfect. As a side dish we had fries and a baked potato respectively. We shared a mixed side salad as we were told it would be quite large and enough for two people. This was exactly the case. The dessert rounded the whole thing off perfectly. In short... we were absolutely satisfied with both the food and the service. The service was attentive, always on the ball and highly professional. Many thanks to the entire "El Gaucho team" for this wonderful evening and 5 stars throughout from us.

The food was very good. But the value for money wasn't quite right. The appetizers were very small in quantity, and some of them were very poorly presented. Considering the price of the steaks, the side dishes should have been included and not charged extra. The chairs were very uncomfortable when sitting for extended periods. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

In itself a nice place on a busy street in Cologne. There were more people, which is often a good sign. The reception was warm. The menu is extensive. What stands out are the prices. These are on the high side. Starters were ok. With the main courses, an average fillet steak, ribeye etc. costs about 45 euros. For a few euros more you get a slice of paprika or half a jar of peppercorns over your tournedos. Do you want vegetables or a baked potato? Just pay a generous extra. Fries are included by the way. Single glass of wine eur 10? Average bottle of wine 50 euros. We had the recommended Malbec Zagal. Delicious with this meat. After: Coffee with cognac? I think it was just a local brandy but fine 😉 We spent 650 euros with 6 people and sat for 2 hours. You can't sit on those chairs any longer. The front edge of the chair paralyzes your legs after about an hour. Point of criticism. Do yourself a big favor and go to the toilet beforehand. If you go to the toilet here you will feel like you are in the suburbs of Colombia. All in all, a solid 8 for the meat and the wine. The rest is for the taking.

El Gaucho looks quite nice inside, with a fitting style for an Argentinian steakhouse. The outdoor seating, however, is narrow and rather uncomfortable, and the roller shutter door hanging over our heads could use a cleaning. One can only hope that no dirt gets loose and falls into our plates while eating 🙈. The service was friendly but seemed a bit passive. The food was a mixed bag. The albondigas were nicely salty, while the empanadas were very tasty. The accompanying sauce had a pleasant spiciness. The beef fillet, which was ordered medium, was grilled a bit too long, but tasted wonderful. The jacket potato was really tasty, but the spinach was inedible. It's difficult to give an overall rating. The Malbec we ordered was out of stock, so we opted for the more expensive one. It was served a bit too warm. Cologne has a huge selection of restaurants; I'll prefer others in the future.

Almost €12 for half a head of lettuce, a few pieces of onion, not even two tomatoes, and an olive. The second steak was almost €3 more expensive because it was covered in white pepper. €5.50 for 4 tablespoons of spinach. It's pretty harsh to charge such prices for something like that. The price-performance ratio isn't right.

Our visit to El Gaucho was a complete success! As soon as we entered, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at home in the rustic, cozy atmosphere. The atmosphere, accompanied by soft tango music, transported us straight to Argentina. The food was simply excellent: the Argentinian Angus steaks from the open grill were cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. There were also delicious side dishes such as the fresh El Gaucho salad and crispy cassava fries. Particularly noteworthy is the quality of the meat, which comes from species-appropriate pasture farming and is perfectly prepared in Cologne. The service was equally impressive: attentive, friendly and always available without being intrusive. Our questions were answered competently, and the wine and dessert recommendations were exactly to our taste. Overall, our evening at El Gaucho was an unforgettable experience. For all steak lovers and fans of Argentine cuisine, this restaurant is an absolute must in Cologne. We'll definitely be back!

The atmosphere is very pleasant, everyone is on their own and they probably have regular visitors because the guests seem to meet the employees :) We ordered meat and finished it in a very short time, it was very delicious.

We had a great start to Saturday evening! The service was top and we felt like we were in good hands. The fillet steaks were perfect and tasty, as they should be for the price. There are 2 points of criticism: the price of over 12 euros for the 4 small Albondigas gratinated with a little cheese is too expensive, it is a tapas portion and nothing more. Then a waiter (I think it was the same waiter who served us) was yelled at unnecessarily loudly by the grim seater/boss at the entrance through the guest area because of a small mistake at the other table. It was unnecessary and unpleasant, you don't do that! The waiter was great and did a great job, thank you very much for that!

The best steak I've ever had outside of Argentina (my husband said the same) 😍 Service was super quick, the selection of dishes and drinks was perfect, the design of the place felt just like Argentina. I was expecting a little bit more music, although it was nice to be able to easily chat without too much noise around.

They only have three cuts of meat presented in different ways Therefore, the menu seemed brief to me. Decorated like an Argentine country house. The uniform of the waiter that we had, a Brazilian who changed his mood when we spoke to him in Portuguese...well, they have to check the uniform because he looked like a very poorly dressed gaucho. What we ordered was good except for dessert where we ordered dulce de leche pancakes with cream and they brought anything...check that out too. The food arrived super fast and the reservation system is very good. Thank you 🖖

A bit loud but food is perfect!

A restaurant that doesn't live up to the reviews, the main course is acceptable, the side dish is a real joke for the price. The side dish could be confused or compared with a bite, which is really crazy for the price. We expected a lot more from our visit than we saw in the reviews, but we were very disappointed. This is our first time here. The restaurant has character, the staff is courteous, polite, respectful, charismatic and in a very good mood. The food was more than delicious, the atmosphere was simply great and very relaxed and for the price with food and drinks you definitely can't say anything. We'll definitely come here to eat again. Hi Everyone. Please stay away from this place as far as possible. Unless you want to wait two hours for your food and get something you didn't order (for example, a rare steak instead of medium plus, fries instead of a baked potato). Communication with the kitchen via the waiter is a misunderstanding - you explain that you want a well-done shashlik and you get it raw. In a word, a disaster - I definitely do not recommend it, especially since the owner doesn't care.

Nuestra noche en El Gaucho fue absolutamente terrible. Desde el principio, el servicio estaba alarmantemente desorganizado: 30 minutos de espera solo para conseguir nuestras bebidas, y eso fue después de tres recordatorios! Cuando finalmente llegaron los entrantes, solo nos dieron cuchillos, lo que nos obligó a comer con los dedos porque el restaurante claramente carece de personal. Por si fuera poco, habíamos pedido un melón con jamón italiano, pero el melón estaba completamente inmaduro y no era comestible. Luego vinieron los platos fuertes, y las cosas empeoraron. Para un restaurante especializado en carne, esto fue una desgracia: ni un solo plato se cocinó a la temperatura correcta. Los ingredientes pueden ser decentes, pero si no sabes cocinar la carne correctamente, no deberías estar en este negocio. En cuanto a las salsas, nos dijeron: “No elijas ninguna, te la ofreceremos”. A disastrous experience at El Gaucho Our evening at El Gaucho was absolutely dreadful. From the very beginning, the service was alarmingly disorganized: 30 minutes of waiting just to get our drinks, and that was after three reminders! When the starters finally arrived, we were only given knives, forcing us to eat with our fingers because the restaurant clearly lacks staff. To make matters worse, we had ordered a melon with Italian ham, but the melon was completely unripe and inedible. Then came the main courses, and things only got worse. For a restaurant that specializes in meat, this was a disgrace: not a single dish was cooked to the correct temperature. The ingredients may be decent, but if you don’t know how to cook meat properly, you shouldn’t be in this business. As for the sauces, we were told, “Don’t choose any, we’ll offer them to you.” In the end, we had to eat without any sauces at all. On top of that, the dishes were served in a completely chaotic order: first two, then another, and finally the last one—meaning one of us had to eat alone. The lack of staff is painfully obvious, and the owner only bothers to intervene when you raise your voice. Totally unacceptable. This restaurant does not deserve its current rating. Avoid at all costs!

The price-performance ratio is not right here. Very expensive! Because of the prices, I wanted to take the cheap vegetable pan and asked if it was gluten-free. At first it said yes, then suddenly "no" and the waiter talked me into a small piece of meat for €33, which had no side dishes, sauce, onions or butter. A potato with herb butter also had to be bought for €5.50. And then of course you would like to have something to drink. Too expensive! The something you get isn't presented pretty on the plate either. The waiter comes to the table very often, is very friendly and the store is focused on sales. The ambience is rustic and outdated, but still cozy. The toilet is not appropriate for the expensive store and needs to be more modern and comfortable. I was there with a large group and we all thought it was too expensive.

The atmosphere is cozy with chairs that are quite out of place that don't invite you to linger! Food that had already been served to the guest and was served incorrectly was passed to the next guest after a short stop at the counter! The restaurant lives up to its reputation: the best meat in Cologne! Tender and delicious grilled. I can definitely recommend the Bernaise sauce with the steak, it is homemade and absolutely delicious. The food is incredibly good, you can tell the quality, so eating out is really fun. The service is also wonderful. Our waiter Kris was incredibly nice, accommodating and does his job with passion. Perfect host. 👌

My wife in the clinic on the ring - so I had to get fed alone. Because of the proximity, I ended up in "El Gaucho". Since everything was full, I was allowed to sit at the counter. Apart from the very nice conversation with the "boss" (because he welcomes the guests here), the meat and salad were very good. This is what a steak should taste like! It was worth every penny. Because it was so good, I went back the next day to see if the quality was a flash in the pan the first time... No, everything was great again this time. The only drawback was that Monday is a day of rest and the spoiled guest has to have a blessing before he gets his fill.

Everything used to be better. Visited you again after years. But somehow it's not like it used to be. Pablo's service was attentive as always. But the starter looked absolutely loveless. In jedweder Hinsicht top: Die Mitarbeiter, die ein gut eingespieltes festes Team bilden, sind aufmerksam, herzlich und serviceorientiert. Das hausgemachte Chimichurri, das vorm Essen zum Brot gereicht wird, ist so lecker, dass man sich allein davon gerne schon sattessen möchte und sich zwingen muss, aufzuhören, damit man das Hauptgericht noch schafft. Was sich mehr als lohnt: Qualitativ hochwertiges Fleisch, meisterhaft zubereitet. Alles perfekt, ich gehe dort regelmäßig mit Freunden essen, und alle sind begeistert und kommen gerne wieder.

El Gaucho is not just another steakhouse. El Gaucho is THE steakhouse in Cologne. The quality of the meat is incredible and the atmosphere invites you to linger. Definitely a culinary highlight of this city.

Als Neubürger von Köln musste ich als Steakliebhaber nicht lange suchen, um mein neues Lieblingsrestaurant für Fleisch in Köln zu finden. Tatsächlich gab es am Wochenende einen richtigen Fleischkick mit Aha-Erlebnis. Argentinien kann Steaks wirklich gut. Schnelle und nette Kellner in gemütlicher Atmosphäre bei abgemessenen Preisen. Beim Rausgehen habe ich schon für das nächste Date mit dem Parrillero El Gaucho reserviert. Mein Tipp: Rumpsteak mit grünem Pfeffer, Folienkartoffel + Quilmes-Bier. Das macht mich glücklich. Kleiner Wermutstropfen gab es aber schon, den ich wohne in Flittard und leider nicht in der Kölner City.

Visited with my brother during an overnight stay in cologne, fancied a steak and was very happy with the choice. Rustic Argentinian steakhouse with a very good selection of steaks. Had a magnificent fillet steak and a 'few' very nice beers. Really good friendly service and excellent food and drink. Can't go wrong if you want a steak in Cologne.

Die Steaks sind wirklich toll, das ist außer Diskussion. Die Pommes waren dagegen sehr trocken und der Spinat den wir bestellten, wenig angemacht. Aber was wir wirklich sehr schlecht fanden, war die Enge. Eine sehr dichte Bestuhlung. Wir waren zu zweit und saßen an einem winzigen Tisch. Wie alle die zu zweit waren. Das Ambiente lässt zu wünschen übrig. 130.- € für 2 kleine Steaks mit Pommes und Spinat und jeder 3 Softgetränke ist für so ein Ambiente sehr teuer. Es war mal schön ein anderes Steakhaus kennenzulernen, aber das war es auch.

Wie immer ein herausragendes Steak und auch die Vorspeise war lecker! Preis/Leistung ist aber leider am oberen Limit.

Stale. Dusting would be strongly recommended. Wardrobe messy. Chaotic. The waiter was very attentive. The boss clearly gave the impression that he doesn't really care what "extra requests" guests have. Zero accommodating. Sirloin steak sold out when the store opens. Overall, I'm appalled at how, as a host, you have such a lack of interest in your guests and communicate this clearly. I won't come back. It only gets two stars thanks to the friendliness of the waiter.
