Down Under - Australian Steakhouse Restaurant & Bar in Bad Vilbel

I was there with a friend and we wanted to redeem a Neo Taste voucher. Unfortunately, it's quite complicated compared to other Neo Taste locations, as you have to show the voucher before ordering (after which I couldn't redeem the voucher later, as it seems you can't modify an order at the till). Then the server has to click "redeem" themselves, which I didn't realize when I showed the voucher before ordering this time, and it was then exceptionally accepted. Personally, I find the food far too expensive for the quality and taste, as are the drinks, and I wouldn't eat there if I couldn't redeem a voucher. The service is okay.

I had a large burger, which was delicious. Unfortunately, it only came with a handful of fries and a dollop of coleslaw. It was far too expensive for that.

The ambiance is slightly upscale, and the prices reflect that. However, they're not justified. The burgers tasted good, but the buns felt store-bought, not homemade. That's what I expect at that price. The accompanying coleslaw was more of a garnish than anything else, and the amount of sweet potato fries was also disappointing. While they were tasty, the €3 surcharge wasn't justified. The service was a bit overzealous. They asked about my empty glass almost as soon as I put it down. Give your customers a moment to process their meal.

It's been a few weeks, but I still wanted to mention how lovely it was here :)) The food was absolutely delicious...and the service was super friendly and competent 🙂 I'd love to come back again ✌🏼

Why not 5 stars? We (two people) were there Saturday evening and had made a reservation in advance. Note: Make sure to make a reservation on weekends; by 7 p.m., the restaurant was practically full. The staff are friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. 5 stars. The ambiance is certainly a matter of taste. I would describe the Down Under as more of a cross between an Irish pub and a sports bar. I don't mind the big TV, but it should be turned down. I don't think any of the guests would want to actively watch the Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund game (with sound). The general noise level, however, didn't bother me; you can still have a conversation at a normal volume. Therefore, only 3 stars for the ambiance overall. The food (we had two different burgers) is good, but not very good! The portions are sufficient, although the burger, fries, and coleslaw might be a bit meager for some. I was particularly bothered by the fact that the meat was only lukewarm. For €25, I expect a bit more quality and care, but the food is still very tasty. 4 stars for the food. Overall, Down Under is a positive experience and therefore always worth a visit. However, you should expect to pay €30 to €40 per person. This raises the expectations for quality/quantity, which must be met.

Yes, it was good. Except for one dirty plate, which was very greasy on the bottom, I swapped it for another one. Of course, it didn't make a good impression, especially regarding cleanliness. We sat outside, and for me, it was a bit noisy and there was a lot of traffic.

The atmosphere is very cozy, and the menu is quite extensive. The service is mediocre, and the food is good. We ordered burgers, schnitzel, and nuggets. It's expensive, though.

We ate there for Hessentag. Unfortunately, the staff was hopelessly overwhelmed. Some of our group first received fries as a side dish, and 20 minutes later, the main course still hadn't arrived. We asked twice and received rude replies. Instead of the already overwhelmed staff tending to the existing customers, they ushered more and more people into the restaurant. The food was nothing special, probably due to the crowds. I hope things are different outside of Hessentag.

The kangaroo burger is top-notch. The fries are like fries with jam (actually, they're great), and the salad is also top-notch. I highly recommend it.

We went there via the Schlemmerblock (snack bar)... we wouldn't have been there without it. The food was okay... but nothing more. For the price and the ambiance, I expected more. If I order a brisket burger and just get a patty that looks and tastes practically the same as the "regular" one, I'm disappointed. I was expecting real brisket... Attention, please be careful!!! The well-sounding promise "20% off all dishes" which is valid at certain times during the week, unfortunately does not apply to the "Specials of the Month" menu. Unfortunately, you are not informed about this, and when you inquired about it, the matter was not resolved to my complete satisfaction. For that, I deduct points. Four of us went there because we wanted to try something different. We had: 1 crispy burger, 1 double cheeseburger, and 2 half-rack ribs. The burgers were delicious and tasted great. The spare ribs were both delicious with fries and coleslaw. The spare ribs were very good in delicious BBQ sauce, and the coleslaw was also delicious, as were the fries. We then each had dessert. 1 pancake with maple syrup, which my wife really enjoyed. I also had pancakes, but with ice cream and no sauce. I have to say they were a bit dry without the sauce; I only ate 2.5 pieces. Nevertheless, it was incredibly delicious. The apple strudel, however, was unfortunately too small for the price. But it was also delicious. And last but not least, the brownie was also delicious. All in all, it was delicious and nice.

Overall ok food and service. The prices are in my opinion way too high for what is offered, 20 Euros for a basic salad is not reasonable and 5 Euros for a 0.3l beer bottle is extortion. The restaurant is nothing special, both food and drink can be found better and cheaper elsewhere.

We went to Down Under for burgers. They were delicious, and the service was attentive and very friendly. They serve delicious cocktails during happy hour until 7 p.m. All in all, the evening was a delight. Unfortunately, the restaurant isn't quite as conveniently located on a shopping street, but that's the only downside.

On recommendation, I tried the place down under. The vegetarian burger wasn't entirely to my taste, the salad was poorly presented, and the fries were just plain old fries. But at least I was full for around €16. Generally speaking, it's a bit more expensive than average. However, the atmosphere is very pleasant.

We visited to try the crocodile, kangaroo, and emu platter, which turned out to be more of a novelty than a standout in terms of flavor. However, the burger and wine were absolutely delicious and made up for it. The venue is spacious with plenty of seating, making it a comfortable spot to dine.

The drinks and prices are okay. Service is very fast and very friendly. Unfortunately, the air conditioning isn't really good inside. The food, however, has nothing to do with Down Under. Fried mozzarella sticks, burgers, nachos, or Jägerschnitzel from a carton aren't really eaten in Australia. The menu is a typical system food card, where no cooks are needed.

Had high expectations on the restaurant based on previous reviews but got disappointed! We had lunch here during Hessentag. Steak is not cooked to standard - not medium cooked at all. Also ordered rib which was too salty to eat. Plus had to wait for more than 1 hour to get food with such quality. Service is also very slow.

I can only recommend it. Sure, there are a few things that aren't quite perfect (I found the meat a bit underseasoned), but there are salt and pepper shakers on the table for that. We'd love to come back :D

How empty and arrogant can a person be when the server came to our table as soon as we were seated and started yelling at the people behind us that they weren't being served because she couldn't reach them because we were blocking the way to them with our baby in the stroller, while there was a way to the other table, but she had to walk 5 meters further. What a crazy world we live in.

Very tasty steaks, I have never tried such before. I love medium roasting, and here it was just right. A large selection of wines to go with the meat. The staff is just gold. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant has an incredible interior, there is something to look at while you wait for your order. I recommend visiting this place. I will definitely come to you again))

Never been down under?! Maybe I picked the wrong thing. I had a starter platter. It was ALL fried food, something like that should have been announced. Everything was covered in thick, greasy breading. The fries were okay, that was all. I didn't like the wine either. The service was nice and attentive... Nope.

If you like exotic food, it's good, normal burgers were too expensive for the price and the taste was a 2/5 (generally exaggerated prices). It was very tight in the outer seating area.

We went down under for dinner with our 3 year olds today. The service was great and child-friendly as was the ambience and food. Unfortunately, when it came to the starter, we immediately noticed or were aware that it was frozen food... and the salad dressing wasn't homemade. A choice of dressing would be great 😊 The meat was good and the fries were sensational too!

Unfortunately it's not what you expect... Above all, the reviews here are very good, which I can't quite understand. Spare ribs very spicy, too much sauce, no BBQ sauce but rather peppers and all in all very expensive for not being very tasty. So paying an extra €3 for sweet potato fries is crazy, I have to say… The service itself was friendly, but unfortunately it didn't look you in the eye and wasn't even asked if everything was okay and there was no farewell.

The ambience is beautiful in Australian style. We had a salad with emu meat. The meat is very tender and recommended. We also ordered the ribs and chicken wings. In my opinion, a dip was missing here, otherwise it was very tasty, as was the coleslaw as a side dish. The homemade iced tea is particularly recommended. It's very comfortable inside. There are also televisions that show football.

Nice service, 300 gr. Steak was on point, my wife had spare ribs and chicken nuggets (sauce very spicy) our son also had a steak and our daughter-in-law had the chicken steak (?). Service was quick, attentive and friendly. I found the side dishes overpriced and that the coleslaw was just a blob but tasted very good

The restaurant is perfect. The food is very delicious we had the cheese burger and chicken burger with ananas it was amazing really delicious the service is very good and the waiter is very friendly. The chicken burger was more delicious than beef cheeseburger but both were very tasty. I like the atmosphere very comfy and cozy. There is an area for smokers which i find really good although i don’t smoke but i find this very interesting for the people who does.

Bad service, when the last ones had their food, the others had already finished eating. The main course was delivered extremely later than the side dishes.

Special requests (without tomato and cheese) are accepted but not honored. (Every McDonald's does this better. It's happened several times. Cheese is sometimes omitted, but never tomato.) Drinks are served over the counter to the table. (Even at McDonald's, orders are now delivered to the table.) Reservation (via Groupon) first confirmed, then canceled at short notice, and the voucher is then marked as redeemed even though you weren't there.

The recommendations for suitable wine or beer accompaniments in particular rounded off the meal. If you want to try something new, you should definitely visit this restaurant - I'll definitely be back!

Something between a sports bar and a themed restaurant. Burger and steak were okay, the skewers for 41€(!) were unfortunately far from worth the money. Staff tried hard, but we didn't feel really welcome. At some tables (in the middle of the room) you feel like you're in a fast food restaurant. Recommendation: Make a reservation and then sit in a niche or at a table with a corner seat at the edge or by the window.

The fries were delicious, the burgers were unfortunately very average and a little carelessly prepared - nowadays you have to offer more sophistication and more love for the food. Unfortunately the prices for food and drinks increased significantly.

Food was okay, four people ate schnitzel. Price performance wasn't that good though. Little sauce and mushrooms with the Jägerschnitzel and the same with the Frankfurter Schnitzel, hardly any green sauce, unfortunately. The waiter wasn't particularly friendly, which is a shame. We had heard some good things beforehand, but we can't confirm that. Another visit is out of the question for us.

The ambience and service are quite good, but the vegetarian/vegan burger is an outrage. It's only about 1/3 the size of a normal burger, has less toppings and costs a hefty 20 euros. Unfortunately, that's the only juicy thing about the burger. I was literally laughed at by my table companions after this “thing” was served to me. Please rethink the concept of this dish :)

Very nice atmosphere, you can even watch football. Separate smoking area, but there is 0% smell. I would park in the parking garage as there is hardly any parking space. I recommend it to everyone for a delicious Aussi burger.

The quality of the food was average at best. The restaurant is currently not a recommendation.

Unfortunately the first and last visit for me. The burger pattie tastes like poor quality frozen goods, the burger bun is dry. A homemade hamburger with products from the discounter tastes better and doesn't cost €19. Homemade Ice Tea has more ice cubes in it than the drink itself.

So far we have actually never been disappointed down under. Ambience good, food good. This time my steak was slightly overcooked, but still edible. We'll still be happy to come back. This was just one of many visits. The burgers at our table were great. The Pina Colada is incredibly delicious.
