I have no complaints about the food or the ambience. However, some of the staff are very unfriendly and not exactly accommodating.

The food is very good, but the service is terrible. One might think that the innkeeper has little interest in guests. First we waited at the entrance, we hadn't made a reservation, then nothing, then the clerk came, no. We We didn't make a reservation, we were given a table but no menu and we weren't asked if we wanted drinks. Conclusion: Patience is required. This time we went to the competition, even though we had already eaten very well at caruso twice.

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal hier. Wir waren sehr zufrieden. Als Vorspeise haben wir gemischte italienische Vorspeisen gegessen, leckeres Gemüse und gut gewürzt. Das anschließende Steak war zart und auf den Punkt gegrillt. Trotz des brechend vollen Biergartens war der Service gut. Im Biergarten mit Blick auf die Agger sitzt man wirklich sehr schön.

A real carbonara. Unfortunately sometimes rare to find. It tasted twice as good with the friendly staff and the very nice ambience. I recommend the restaurant.

We were ignored by two waiters at the entrance for 10 minutes. No “Wait a minute, we’ll be there for you” or anything like that. We were also ignored at the bar, so we weren't given a table and left. Very unfriendly staff.

Das Bestellen und Abrechnen erfolgt voll elektronisch, ein Verrechnen ist somit nicht möglich. Dennoch wird zu viel berechnet! Das verdirbt den Spaß am Essen und der Location.

Cold coffee with milk, bread forgotten, pasta swimming in oil, pasta with prawns in white wine... nothing special but particularly expensive. Service friendly but overwhelmed. That was our first and last visit. A pity!

We've been here several times. Very nice outdoor dining. From the starter to the two pizzas to the delicious ice cream for dessert, everything was again super delicious! Today we bought the delicious olive oil again. We'll definitely be back!

Unsympathetic!!! Not recommendable! First we waited 20 minutes until someone came to get drinks. Our two pizzas arrived after another 30 minutes. The staff isn't exactly friendly and doesn't have any regard for their guests at all. In between, no one asked if everything was okay. Only the guests who had a reservation in advance were served quickly and friendly. A lady next to us ordered coffee - after a short while and after looking into the glass it was clear that it was instant coffee that had not yet dissolved properly. It's a shame to sell something like that as "coffee" on the menu. We were there during the week and sat outside. It wasn't full and yet people kept just leaving because some of them hadn't been served after 30 minutes. No thanks are given for tips either. I won't go there again. By far the worst restaurant in the surrounding area.

We were at Caruso Essen on Friday, July 19th, 2024 with 5 people. We went there with mixed feelings because the reviews weren't that good, but we thought it was good from previous years. And that's how it was this time too. We ate very well with live saxophone music, everything was very tasty, and there was nothing to complain about the service either. So next time when the weather is nice, we'll be happy to do it again! Alexander Heuschen

Ambience is top. Apparently no card payment was possible, which I think is not up to date in 2024 when you can pay with card in almost every kiosk.

I ordered family/party pizza trays for my birthday. Ordering was uncomplicated, the staff was friendly and listened to my wishes. The pizzas were delivered on time and my guests loved the pizzas because they were so delicious! Don Caruso was the theme of the party. Thank you very much and kudos to the chef!

In Italy we didn't eat better than at Don Caruso on the Agger. And in recent years there have been over a hundred restaurants all over Italy, from campsites to fine dining. Cooked by nonna to star chef. Even though it was our first time there, we were warmly welcomed as if we were regular guests. The host Devid was very likeable to us from the first moment with his communicative and humorous manner. And they then impressively proved to us that they can cook there. As a starter we shared the grilled octopus tentacles on salad. Plus rustic Italian country bread with the house's own olive oil from Sicily and pickled green olives and dried tomatoes... sensationally delicious. For the secondi there was pasta with fennel salsiccia in a fantastic tomato sauce as well as the Alfa rabbit (killed from the host's Alfa Romeo😄) and grilled ratatoille vegetables in the house style... both spectacular! Because authentic and and real! For dessert it was Italian lemon tart alla Nonna and a pannacotta with pistachio coating... both of which were also amazing! Conclusion: With the bottle of Lugana, Espressi and the two Ramazotti, we had the impression that we were on our way home from Italy... a really successful late afternoon in a beautiful restaurant that we will definitely visit very often. We can definitely recommend it with a clear conscience! 07/07/2024 - Today we were at Don Caruso for the second time and were once again thrilled by the authentic Italian cuisine. This time my wife and I made ourselves comfortable in the beer garden and were given a very friendly welcome by boss Devid. We had a bottle of excellent Lugana, shared a fantastic Vitello Tonnato as a starter and were greeted from the kitchen with a plate of olive oil and fresh country bread. For the main course it was grilled polpo tentacles on salad for my wife and this time the pasta with fennel salami for me. The Polpo tentacle was very chili-spicy and the innkeeper immediately offered, without any discussion, to make it new and less spicy. Hats off - that's what I call reacting professionally. It's almost embarrassing to write again that not only did we not have anything to complain about, but this time we also really celebrated everything that was given to us. And all this with a jam-packed beer garden and guests in the restaurant. A strong performance from the entire team and special praise to the employees in the kitchen. Thank you for the great food! We'd love to come back! Addendum to both dates: We also had the “CO2 surcharge” on the bill - but the two espressos were left out. Monetary compensation, emotionally disturbing! Therefore an urgent appeal to the operators - stop this dubious surcharge. Regardless of whether it is regulated by law or not, this only leads to irritation and dissatisfaction and ultimately to negative reviews and dissatisfied guests staying away, with the result that potential guests never come in the first place!

The restaurant is beautifully located, when you come over the bridge you first see the empty drinks warehouse... then the random signs from "please wait here" to "self-service" and all the tables are reserved are confusing... In short it was the worst spaghetti carbonara of my life. The service didn't say anything about it, forgot the beer we ordered and we had to wait in line for 15 minutes to pay. Never again

2€ surcharge “because of the CO2 tax”… During our recent visit it took 30 minutes until we were asked for drinks. Afterwards we were pretty much ignored, apparently we were sitting too far to the edge. What really surprised us was the billing, which was €2 higher than expected. When we politely asked, we were told that it was due to the increased CO2 tax and that we had Mr. Scholz to thank for that. We could also google that. We have, no other restaurant in the world does that. It wasn't pointed out anywhere, apparently it's just opened in the hope that it won't be noticed. A bit naive given our bill of €17. Therefore, it is better to check the invoice! We won't be coming back. Which is a shame, because the food is good and the atmosphere is great, especially in summer.

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the Don Caruso restaurant either. The food is mediocre, nothing special, the portions are small and the service is rather poor and slow. We know Italian hospitality completely differently. But the icing on the cake is that you feel ripped off after paying. The prices on the invoice do not all match the prices on the menu, and then a CO2 surcharge of €2 per person is charged without even mentioning this anywhere beforehand. When asked, reference is made to a federal government law... that doesn't work at all. In our case the Co2 surcharge made up almost 10% of the invoice amount!!

More appearance than reality! Despite winning the popular TV show “My Local, Your Local”, I was really disappointed. The service was unfriendly and the food was not to my liking. Unfortunately, not only I but also my friends didn't like it. A pity....

We had noticed that the restaurant was the winner of My Local, Your Local. So we had a certain expectation. Unfortunately it was rather disappointing. The service person was probably quite new. If this had been briefly mentioned at the beginning, it would definitely have been beneficial for both sides. The food came quickly, the pizzas were good. The pasta dishes were ok. But nothing special. It lacked finesse and the sauces were quite dry. Afterwards, no one came for a long time to clear up or even ask if we wanted something more to drink, coffee or dessert. When we paid there was one drink too many on the bill. Overall, we didn't really feel well cared for or welcome. Maybe we would stop by again for a drink in the beer garden, unfortunately there isn't enough for more...it's a shame.

A bit disappointed after the report in the Stadtanzeiger. Would describe it as nothing but Italian cuisine. Antipathy for 4 people very puny, but tasty.

We live in Wahlscheid and have so far only ordered via Lieferando. But are completely satisfied! We will be returning shortly and are very confident but also excited! Then contact us again!

Very nice place in summer right on the Agger river. It smells delicious like the typical pizza smell. But a unique advance payment method. Since I couldn't find any more table space on my own, there was a nice place to sit in the lounge. So far so good, before I was allowed to sit down I had to pay for the drink and the pizza. (I had the feeling that they didn't trust their guests to pay afterwards). When I was paying, I heard and felt that the staff were making things easy were irritated by the flippant comments towards the guests. The guests noticed it too. I eat Pizza Tonno and it wasn't more than ok. In my opinion it could have stayed in there for 5 minutes longer. The edge was tasty but none of it was Onion was browned, almost raw and the middle was very soft. If you like it almost raw, ok...everyone likes it differently. Nobody asked how the food tasted, it was just cleared away without a word. Personal feelings, communication 6. My uneasy impression continued from start to finish. What attracted me to the main street was the place by the water and for that a grade 2. I don't have to go there again.

We always like to go to the Don around the corner and have us cook for us. We always had a wonderful evening and ate really well. The simple, sophisticated and really delicious cuisine always offers great, changing daily specials, making it difficult to decide what ends up on the plate. There has never been an evening when there wasn't time for a quick chat between boss and customer. The prices are more than fair. Especially in summer, the location is particularly impressive with its terrace directly on the Agger. Nice little break from everyday life. Enjoys it.

There were four people. Starters bruschetta was ok. The main course pizza was far too small and not particularly tasty. I have eaten better pizzas in other restaurants. 3x pasta tasted ok, but not enough for me. The owner asked us if we wanted parmesan on the dish, yes of course. Then came the bill: The Parmesan was charged extra 3 times at €1.50 each. And there were two €2.0 charges on the bill for a Co 2 tax. For what ?? A Nogo. The conclusion is not recommended.

Personally, I thought the restaurant was very good! We arrived late after the actual reservation date, but this wasn't a problem, we were able to sit down and order without any problems. In my opinion, the waiting time was a bit above average, but this was drowned out by the very tasty food, the pizza dough was wide and crispy, the pasta was appetizing and the service was nice. In addition, the place was pleasant with a view of the Ager.

Wir waren sehr gespannt, da Don Caruso ja in einer Fernsehkochsendung den ersten Preis gemacht hatte. Das Ambiente ist sehr angenehm und bei schönem Wetter kann man auch direkt am Fluss sitzen. Das war dann aber auch schon alles, was positiv war. Na ja, die Kellnerin war auch noch sehr nett. Das Essen war mehr als unterdurchschnittlich. Der Oktopussalat viel zu sauer, die Kaninchenleber furztrocken ebenso wie der Kabeljau und das Kaninchen aus dem Ofen. Die Kaninchenleber haben wir dann an den Hund verfüttert. Die Kellnerin haben wir darauf aufmerksam gemacht, es erfolgte jedoch keinerlei Reaktion. Der Gipfel war dann aber die Abrechnung. Ich habe mit Karte bezahlt und 18 € Trinkgeld gegeben (von dem die Kellnerin bestimmt nichts zu sehen bekommen hat).. Ich bekam aber nur einen Beleg, keinerlei Rechnung. Die musste ich mir erst holen. Und das war dann der Gipfel! Bei jedem Gericht wurden 1-3 Euro drauf gerechnet, die so nicht in der Karte standen. Der Wein kostete schlappe 23 € für zwei Gläser und es gab sogar noch einen CO2 Zuschlag von vier Euro. Auf die Differenzen aufmerksam gemacht, ist der sehr unwirsche, Chef dann widerwillig mit mir noch einmal die Rechnung durchgegangen und musste mir dann Geld zurückzahlen. Ich kann nur jedem raten, sich in dem Lokal auf jeden Fall die Rechnung geben zu lassen und zu vergleichen. Was sind denn das dafür Methoden? Hab ich ja noch nie so erlebt! Die halten die Gäste doch für doof. Nie wieder Don Caruso!

We were very excited because Don Caruso had won first prize on a television cooking show. The atmosphere is very pleasant and when the weather is nice you can sit right by the river. But that was all that was positive. Well, the waitress was also very nice. The food was more than below average. The octopus salad was way too sour, the rabbit liver was far dry, as was the cod and the rabbit from the oven. We then fed the rabbit liver to the dog. We pointed this out to the waitress, but there was no response. But the peak was the reckoning. I paid by card and gave a tip of €18 (which the waitress certainly didn't get anything from). But I only received a receipt, no invoice. I had to get it first. And that was the peak! For each dish, 1-3 euros were added, which was not on the menu. The wine cost a mere €23 for two glasses and there was even a CO2 surcharge! of four euros. When I was made aware of the differences, the very grumpy boss then reluctantly went through the bill with me again and then had to pay me back money. I can only advise everyone to definitely get the bill in the restaurant and compare. What kind of methods are these? I've never experienced anything like that! They think the guests are stupid. Never again Don Caruso!

Great Italian restaurant just around the corner. Here you are served personally by the boss and get the most delicious specialties. I can especially recommend the homemade carbonara! The playground in the garden is perfect for our little rascal, so we can eat undisturbed in the summer.

Very friendly welcome and service. Advice regarding the wine and food selection was perfect. The food tastes like Italy, plus the beautiful location, you get a bit of a holiday feeling. We took a pizza with us for our son, which was baked at our own time so that it was still hot and fresh when we got home. We always enjoy being guests there.

Super essen , super Service und klasse Ambiente. Es war ein total schöner Abend und die Herzliche Bedienung hat den Abend perfekt abgerundet. Die Pizza mit scampi 🍤 war einfach nur klasse. Falls wir nochmal in der Kölner Nähe sein sollten kommen wir nochmal

Ordered there for the first time today because we read that he won at my restaurant. We won't order there again.. delicious is different.. I'm disappointed. Pizza Parlermo was way too dark.. Pizza Margarita with Knobloch didn't taste good at all . Noodles with beef strips have no taste at all. Pizza spinach also has no taste. Pizzas 🍕 weren't hot either. Ordered for over 50 euros and that. Stay loyal to our delivery service in Rösrath. Conclusion simply disappointed 😞

We have been there several times now and have waited extra to write our review. It was always a really great evening with delicious food, friendly hosts and a beautiful ambience. Today we had dinner with four adults and two children. Here too, consideration was given so that the little ones got their food first. Thank you very much for this Don Caruso!

We ordered pizzas there for the first time today on the recommendation of a friend. They were with us (Overath City) in 40 minutes, very hot, well topped and super tasty! Perfect price! Gladly again!

It's a nice restaurant to eat (or drink). There is parking space. The waiter was friendly.

I have rarely eaten a better pizza. Special requests were no problem, the service was super friendly and there was even a tip for an upset stomach. I am really excited.

Lebt wohl eher von zufälligen Gästen und Passanten. Die Lage im Bereich Aggerknick mit Biergarten direkt am Fluss, die gemütliche Einrichtung der gediegenen Einrichtung und die sizilianische Mentalität des Teams passen zusammen. Das Preisniveau ist der Region im Dunstkreis Köln/Bonn angepasst.

We went there for Christmas dinner with a large group (around 60 people)! We received a very friendly welcome and everything went wonderfully. Although we had different main courses to choose from, everyone received their food at almost the same time. The food tasted very tasty, the service was very attentive and friendly. The prices were super fair. In short: a successful and beautiful evening that will definitely be repeated!

Heute wiedermal versucht dort essen zu gehen. Wir hatten vor Monaten einen "schlechten Tag" erwischt. Heute haben wir es erneut versucht. Leider sind die "schlechten Tage" ständig! Kein Service, unfreundliche Bedienung, schlechter Umgang. Es ist schon erstaunlich, wie man sich behandeln lassen muss von Leuten, die scheinbar genug verdient haben. Könnte man Minussterne geben, würde ich das gerne tun. Ganz schlechter Service und kein gutes Benehmen vom Chef bis zu den Angestellten. Ausdrücklich KEINE EMPFEHLUNG!!!!

Ich hab es leider noch nicht geschafft persönlich zu kommen,jedoch hab ich nur gutes vom Essen gehört und da ich die Familie Caruso seit meiner Kindheit kenne kriegt Ihr 5 Sterne und ganz liebe Grüße von mir.

Die Pizza hatte Kinderportions Grösse. Lieblos gemacht gemacht, noch nicht mal Oregano drüber. Ambiente an der Agger ist top, Bedienung war sehr langsam

Wir waren mit 6 Personen und alle sehr zufrieden, von Vorspeise zum Hauptgericht und Dessert war alles bestens. Wer echte italienische Salciccia essen möchte, sollte hier hin. Der Service war freundlich, locker und bei Wünschen zur Stelle. Die Lage und Ambiente sind super, direkt an der Agger, schöner Biergarten und der Innenbereich ist angenehm. Wir kommen gerne wieder. 👍

Er freundlich, sie genervt erscheinend. Wunderschöner Ausblick mit einer Lounge, die gemütlich sein könnte, wenn sie sauberer und gepflegter wäre.

Eigentlich eine sehr schöne Lokation, wenn man einen Platz bekommt, wo man nicht die Aussicht auf Leergutflaschen genießen muss. Die Speisekarte ist sehr minimalistisch und zumindestens der Salat ziemlich überteuert. Wir hatten telefonisch einen Tisch reserviert. Nach knapp 1,5 Stunden -mitten im Gespräch- kam der Kellner und sagte er müsse abkassieren, da die nächsten Gäste bereits warten würden. Uns wurde im Vorfeld nichts davon gesagt, dass wir nur eine begrenzte Zeit dort verbringen dürfen. Auf diesen Hinweis meinte der Kellner nur ziemlich unfreundlich er müsse schließlich Geld verdienen... Da wir aber auch keine Gelegenheit mehr hatten während der 1,5 Stunden ein zweites Getränk zu bestellen, war unser Durst auch schon wieder recht groß, sodass wir eine andere Lokation aufsuchten, wo wir sehr freundlich bedient wurden und stets Getränke nachordern konnten. Wir werden hier jedenfalls nicht mehr hingehen. Schade, dass man aus so einem idyllischen Ladenlokal nicht mehr macht.

Familiär, wie in Italien. Super Pizza, gute Getränke, schöne Atmosphäre. Wir werden wiederkommen.

Meine Frau und ich waren vorgestern zu zweit im Don Caruso essen, nachdem wir reserviert hatten. Wir haben im schönen Außenbereich gesessen, mit direktem Blick auf die Agger. An einem lauen Sommerabend wirklich sehr gemütlich. Da wir das Schild, welches sich am Eingang zum Außenbereich befindet, gelesen haben, welches einen zum einen bittet, dort kurz zu warten, bis man zum Tisch gebracht wird, und zum anderen informiert, dass es aufgrund von personellen Engpässen (aktuell ja üblich leider) zu Wartezeiten am Tisch kommen kann, waren wir recht entspannt und konnten gut damit umgehen. Aus unserer Sicht ist das ein geben und nehmen. Und genau so wurden wir dann auch vom Inhaber Devid Caruso und seinem Team behandelt - mit Charme, Witz und Authentizität. Wir haben uns wohl gefühlt. Essen war auch lecker (Vorspeise war Bruschetta Brot, und als Hauptgang einmal Pizza, einmal Pasta). Für uns war alles gut und in Ordnung. Wir haben uns wohl gefühlt und werden sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal im Don Caruso gewesen sein.

Schade, dass man es an diesem traumhaften Platz es nicht schafft eine nette Atmosphäre zu schaffen. Der Rotwein (das Glas für 6,50€) wird im Sommer gekühlt serviert, weil er sonst zu warm wird. Ob dadurch oder generell, das war ne ziemliche Plörre. Anstatt vorab schon mal Brot und meinetwegen auch die Fertig-Paprika-Sauce auf den Tisch zu stellen, um Wartezeiten zu verkürzen, wird es zusammen mit der Vorspeise serviert. Wartezeiten entstehen hier leider schon, wenn auch nur die Hälfte der Tische draußen belegt ist. Ich persönlich mag die Pizza dort, weil sie dünn, knusprig und gut belegt ist. Die Reste von den Tellern der Gäste werden gerne mal in die Agger geworfen. Ob die Enten, die hier mit Weißbrot gefüttert werden, auch die Pizza mögen, bzw. vertragen, wage ich zu bezweifeln.

Tolle Atmosphäre für Kinder und Erwachsene. Die Pizza ist auch toll. Alcohol frei Weizen vom Fass. Wunderbar!

Sehr unfreundlich. Der Service ist ein Witz. Stammgäste werden unverzüglich bedient. Wir haben 40 min gewartet, bis wir Getränke bestellen konnten. Dabei hatten wir alle das Gefühl eher zu stören. Unfassbar. Das Essen geht und das Ambiente draußen ist schön. Zählt aber nicht in meiner Bewertung, da der Service alles kaputt macht.

Da wir neu zugezogen sind waren dort heute spontan das 1. Mal essen und sind sehr begeistert! Die Eigentümer und das Personal waren super freundlich und sehr kinderlieb! Obwohl jeder Tisch belegt war, haben wir nicht lange auf unser Essen gewartet. Es hat allen sehr gut geschmeckt und wir werden definitiv öfter kommen! Wir würden noch mehr Sterne geben!

Wir waren heute im schön gelegenen Don Caruso mit fünf Personen essen. Super freundlich, sehr leckere Pizzen aus dem Steinofen. Drei von uns haben das Spargellduett bestellt.
