Die Sattlerei - beef & more in Darmstadt

Hello everyone, After much back and forth, we went to the Alte Sattlerei in Darmstadt yesterday, wanting to break with our steakhouse in Frankfurt, but the food served there was nothing like what we're used to, especially since the Alte Sattlerei is even more expensive. My wife had the Calamaretti Baby Cuttlefish for starters, and they even give the alioli a 5* rating, but for that price, mixing squid rings with the 3-4 baby cuttlefish is beyond outrageous. I had Triple Truffle Carpaccio for starters, and there was no taste of the carpaccio except for the cheese, and there was no trace of truffles! For my wife's main course, she had 250g Australian Grain-Fed Sirloin Butt with a baked potato. The best part was the baked potato. Calling this meat Australian Grain-Fed Sirloin Butt might have passed for a shoe sole. For my main course, I had a 350g Argentinian Grain Fed Strip Loin. The best part was the fries. The Argentinian Grain Fed Strip Loin came in three small pieces, about 1.5cm thick, and not as a steak, as I'm used to. We skipped dessert because being disappointed twice in an evening is enough.

Die Qualität des Essens war sehr gut, das Personal sehr freundlich aber schlecht ausgebildet. Für ein Abendessen ist dieses Lokal zu empfehlen für Feierlichkeiten offensichtlich nicht geeignet. Wir mussten bereits zum zweiten mal diese Erfahrung machen.

Wir hatten Carpaccio und Filet, diverse Beilagen und Soßen, dazu Rotwein und Wasser - absolut alles war excellent. Ein echter Genuss. Auch das Ambiente ist nett.

We now go there several times a year for special occasions. Whether with friends or as a couple. One of the few restaurants that has never disappointed. The meat has always been of great quality and the cooking level has always been brought to the table at just the right level. The starters are super good as are the side dishes. Of course the food comes at a price, but the excellent quality makes it worth it. The selection of drinks is also very good, and there are also delicious alternatives for people who don't drink alcohol. I can only recommend it.

Unfortunately our visit to your restaurant was a great disappointment. I went there with my husband to celebrate his birthday, but we were neither warmly welcomed nor made to feel welcome. I wanted to surprise my husband with his favorite dessert, a creme brulee. When I wanted to order these, however, I was met with a confused “Already?” replied. This reaction was not only inappropriate, but it also took away from my surprise and the special moment. But that wasn't the only thing that made our evening unpleasant. Even before the waiter went into the kitchen, people were gossiping about us - clearly audible! A little later an older waiter came to our table to take our order even though I had already ordered. When I told him this, he reacted strangely and unprofessionally. The behavior of the employees behind the counter was also extremely unpleasant. They stared at us the whole time, making us feel very uncomfortable. Ultimately we decided to quickly leave the restaurant. We even found the bill to be outrageous, and the crème brûlée was an absolute no-go in terms of taste. Also, the older waiter knew it was my husband's birthday - I had told him - but instead of showing a friendly gesture, he just ran away. Friendliness and hospitality seem to be a foreign word in this restaurant. None of the staff were personable or tried to make our stay pleasant. Such a disappointing experience doesn't even deserve one star.

From start to finish our visit to Die Sattlerei was simply perfect. The atmosphere is stylish and cozy, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. But the absolute highlight is of course the food! The meat was of outstanding quality – perfectly grilled, tender and full of flavour. Every side dish and every sauce was prepared with great attention to detail. The prices are absolutely justified for what you get. If you're looking for a first-class steak experience, you definitely shouldn't miss Die Sattlerei. We'll definitely be back!

Top meat quality! Best Steakhouse!

I have to say, the premium steak was too tough for me. Mashed potatoes. Yummy. Cauliflower was normal. Sauce was good too. What annoys me is. I had informed in advance that the bill would be split. In retrospect, that was no longer possible and I don't know anything like that from the catering industry. This meant I couldn't submit the invoice as a service invoice. Overall, it was definitely expensive and not enough. But I would give the store another chance.

We had dinner there on February 9, 2025 and had a wonderful evening. We both ordered the Argentine fillet, with a salad and sweet potatoes. The fillet was incredibly tender and delicious… I have rarely eaten such good meat. The ambience was very nice. The guest room is relatively small, rustically furnished with a touch of chic. It was our first time there but not the last time.

We visited the restaurant because of the positive reviews. We had reserved and were still only assigned the « cat table « . We didn't like the atmosphere in the restaurant, slightly cold and the music was too loud. The order was taken quickly and the drinks were brought straight away, but we waited a long time for the main course. The meat, Argentine grass fed fillet, was very good and tasty. But mistakes were made with both the drinks and the French fries and the bill incorrectly listed truffle parmesan fries instead of the sweet potato fries that were ordered and complained about. We were annoyed, no apology and won't be coming back.

The starters and steaks we tried are worth 5 stars. The fillet steaks are particularly recommended. The side dishes, however, were disappointing. The potato chips were fried to death, the fries were too salty for my taste and the cauliflower looked and tasted at canteen level. Therefore only 4 out of 5 stars. Fantastic food in a stylish location. Big compliments to the kitchen for their outstanding knowledge of steak preparation. I know a few good steakhouses and some of them can learn a lot from you. The service was also very good, and I would like to particularly emphasize the very young service employees. All in all, a great shop to spend hours relaxing.

I find it difficult to eat with timeslots, but it was already known when we made the reservation. But I wouldn't do it again. Highly priced, but also dishes in the mid-price segment.

After 2 visits (December 2024 and December 2025), I can say that the steaks are definitely some of the best I've ever tasted, paired with great side dishes, wines and rums (for the latter, ask about them too). are not on the menu), and the service is also first class (friendly and attentive, but never intrusive). The other two people who were there regularly go to the saddlery and are just as enthusiastic. Our Favorites: Rock Octopus, USDA Prime Filet, Truffle Mashed Potatoes, Green Asparagus I found the red wine Gnarly Head “Old Vine Zin” to be particularly suitable for the USDA PRIME fillet without a coat. A reservation is strongly recommended. The length of stay for reservations made after 6 p.m. is limited to 1 hour 45 minutes (1 hour longer from 5 p.m.).

The steaks, all side dishes and desserts are prepared first-class and correspondingly delicious. All employees are friendly and accommodating.

The Argentinian ribeye steak was cooked absolutely perfectly – right on point! The meat was of outstanding quality and a real treat. The staff was extremely attentive and listened to our every wish. We felt completely comfortable and would love to come back. Clear 5 stars!

It was our first time in the saddlery, but definitely not the last time 😀 Pleasantly discreet and friendly service, an excellent wine selection and the food is almost perfectly prepared. I had the beef tartare as a starter, which corresponds to a real classic tartare in all its ingredients, but had a little too much salt when fully seasoned. But still tasty and high quality. For my main course I chose the USDA Prime Filet, which is cooked sous-vide and perfectly finished on the grill. A brutally delicious piece of meat, also in the “small 200g version”, more than sufficient with our generous selection of side dishes. It was accompanied by a Cabernet Sauvignon called Montes Aplha, which I had already appreciated from other similar restaurants. I could have continued eating like this for hours if the plate hadn't revealed its empty surface at some point. For dessert, an incredibly creamy homemade raspberry sorbet to top off an exceptionally good evening. Thank you and full phnkts!

Ein wunderbares Ambiente und eine verlockende Speisekarte haben uns erwartet. Gut, die Preise sind nicht ohne aber das war uns ja vorab schon klar. Wir haben alle Steak gegessen (6 Personen) und leider war das Fleisch bei fast allen nicht wirklich heiß (eher mäßig warm). Reklamiert haben wir es nicht, dafür war der Hunger mittlerweile zu groß....

We had a very nice evening in the saddlery in Darmstadt. As a starter we tried the beef tartare and the octopus - both absolutely excellent, both in terms of taste and preparation. For the main course we chose the 400g rib eye steak and the truffle spaghetti. The rib eye was cooked to perfection and the spinach that was served with it was also excellently prepared. The truffle spaghetti was delicious, although we have experienced it elsewhere in a more intense and sophisticated way. At the end there was cheesecake, which we also enjoyed. Particularly noteworthy is the great ambience, which creates a very pleasant atmosphere. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fair. A small suggestion for improvement would be to tweak a few things in the service to really round off the evening perfectly. Overall, a great experience that we would happily recommend.

Dieses Restaurant war das erste was mir angezeigt wurde als ich nach den besten Restaurants in Darmstadt suchte und es hat mich sofort überzeugt! Wir bestellten das USDE Steak und T-Bone, es war wirklich ein himmlischer Genuss! Und die Bedienung war ebenfalls sehr freundlich zu allen, insgesamt war die Laune im Restaurant total angenehm und wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder hingehen. Vielen Dank für die leckere Erfahrung!

Das Essen war von vorne bis hinten Spitzenklasse. Sowohl das Steak (USDA PRIME Rib) als auch die Beilagen (die Weltbeste Sauce Hollondaise!!) waren einfach perfekt. Natürlich ist ein Besuch in der Sattlerei hochpreisig, aber auch ein wirklicher Genuss!

Vorspeisen, danach Steaks, Tuna Steak, Beilagen, Caesars Salad, waren sehr gut, geschmacklich, Gargrat, Konsistenz. Die Weine Montes „Alpha“ Cabernet Sauvignon, Rewen „Estate“ Malbec sind perfekte Begleiter zum Fleisch. Sonderwünsche wurden erfüllt! Der Service war perfekt. Wir kommen wieder!

I have been eating at the saddlery for many years. The food, fillet steak, and the side dishes are simply delicious. The service is world class! I actually go there 2-3 times every year and it's always a pleasure!

Everything was simply great, came across it by chance and became regular customers straight away. The only suggestion: for women, a card without prizes.

The food was very tasty, but overall the price level was just too high for us. Apart from that, we would have liked to stay a while longer, but since the restaurant works with table times, we had to leave the restaurant at a quarter to eight. There was no possibility to sit down somewhere else and have a comfortable drink.

If you're in the mood for steak, you should come here. The best steak in Darmstadt and the surrounding area. The steak is very tasty and as someone who is very picky with his steak, I was very satisfied.

Good food at very high prices. At a price of just under 40 euros for a (small) steak, I personally think that the side dishes and sauces have to be added on top of that is excessively expensive. 6 euros for a portion of fries and 5 euros for a piece of herb butter. Unfortunately, the high prices don't match the overall ambience of the restaurant.

It was our first time in the saddlery and we will go again! It was a really successful visit to the restaurant. Parking right in front of the door. The location is very attractive, discreet and stylish. The service staff was attentive and friendly. I found the time management in the service impressive - the slots are designed for 1 hour 45 minutes and were perfectly managed, no fast food but also no long waiting times between courses. There are professionals at work here. The quality of the meat was sensational. I deducted a very small point because of the doneness of the fillet. My husband and I both ordered medium-rare, one steak was perfect, the other was a little “done” and the same size. Am I being petty? No, just connoisseurs with precise ideas. Otherwise everything was perfect. The selection of drinks, especially the wines, should be praised, a good selection with a wide range, something for everyone. We are already looking forward to the next time.

Went there spontaneously today, without a reservation. We were lucky and got a place (for 2) after consultation. So it's better to reserve in advance, especially for larger groups. When making your reservation you just have to decide on a very early (from 5.30 p.m.) or a rather late time slot. This is understandable, but not ideal. I had pre-ordered flowers for my wife when I made the reservation. That also worked perfectly. The bouquet was very beautiful.
