The steaks are of very good quality, with no tendons or anything like that. The homemade sauces have a rich flavor. The value for money is better than at the usual steakhouses in the region. Our service was very friendly and enjoyed interacting with the guests. Overall, highly recommended!

On a Monday evening, we were looking for a restaurant in Heidelberg and the surrounding area with quality and reasonably good parking. We found both here. A great historic building, both inside and out. Authentic decor. But the most important thing for a restaurant is the food. And it's top-notch here. We had rump steak and turkey breast cooked on a hot stone. A delicious, crisp salad to start. The baked potato that accompanies all dishes is also well-made. Especially the one with Roquefort butter. That alone would have been enough. But with it, we also had meat cooked on a stone, where you can perfectly control the doneness yourself. And there are three delicious sauces. The service is impeccable, and you get a glimpse into the kitchen. Everything costs a little more, but quality has its price.

A rustic restaurant, a bit worn in places. Some of the seating was uncomfortable. The restaurant's name is a bit misleading—there weren't many potato varieties, such as rösti. Guests have to prepare the meat dishes themselves—a clever concept, as a chef is no longer required. At least the beef fillet was good. The potato salad was also good, but the little meatballs were less impressive.

I haven't been there since 1996 and was really looking forward to the meal. One employee was completely alone with the kitchen, service, etc. The salad was prepared, fresh from the fridge, and ice cold. The microwave kept ringing, presumably for the baked potatoes, which I find completely unacceptable. Admittedly, the meat for the hot stone was of good quality. If I can't deliver quality at lunch, I should leave it alone. Service: top-notch 👍

We came to remember our days in Germany 25 years ago. The restaurant looks exactly the same, food amazing, y the service was perfect. Is you want to try a pure German restaurant, this is the best choice. Bus gleish!

Why you have to wait an hour for ready-made meals is beyond me. For example, a baked potato disappears under a gigantic pile of crème fraîche. Or a piece of raw meat on a hot stone at an outrageously high price – nothing needs to be cooked, and yet everything takes forever! The service is very friendly and nice, but they can't keep up. What surprised me most was that a restaurant called Kartoffel doesn't offer any potato dishes (except for the baked potato that's overcooked in the oven). No fries or mashed potatoes, no hash browns or potato gratin, no potato salad, or anything else made from the tuber. Instead, there were plenty of meat dishes served on a hot stone that were completely overpriced (not organic). Not again!

We had steak on a hot stone in the garden. It was excellent quality, and the side dishes were delicious. Vegetarian/vegan options are available, and we're very flexible with changes. Very friendly service that catered to guests' wishes. Highly recommended!

Food was good. We got the potatoes with cream cheese and roquefort and the stuffed mushrooms. The atmosphere was nice as well, not many people were there as we went early. However, even though we had ordered 4 potatoes and mushrooms, we were served much later than other clients that came after us and we were with a 3 year-old child.

The ambiance is very rustic; I personally prefer it to the modern setting. The beer garden is a matter of taste, as it's located in the courtyard and features a few long beer benches. The meat was of good quality, as were the baked potatoes and the dips. Service was very attentive and friendly. Overall, it was very good, and if you like a hot stone, this is the place for you.

Wonderful stay with extremely delicious food. We had fillet grilled on the hot stone. The meat was of the highest quality and extremely tasty. Also the baked potato and sour cream were also excellent and the portions were perfect. It was my first visit and certainly not the last! Price-performance is excellent here. There were 6 of us there and everyone was impressed by the meat. We'd love to come back!

The atmosphere here is really good and we were served very friendly. We actually really like the idea of ​​cooking yourself on your own little hot stones This is rare to find. Actually, potatoes with cream or something similar would also go quite well. But then unfortunately my praise ends. There is hardly any cooking required here. That's why I would expect a little more for the high prices.... For example, the "seasonal salad" that is served with the meat should be designed that way given the promise. A few lettuce leaves, cucumber slices and coarsely grated carrots with corn and a few kidney beans... On top of that a dollop of insignificant yogurt sauce... It has nothing to do with the season!!!! I would strongly advise a little more “love and flair”. For example, a few sprouts on top, some cress, rocket, purslane, etc. Our meat: mixed from the stone. There were supposed to be 5 types... So turkey was completely missing, the rest looked the same, small chunks of meat placed next to each other, no idea what and nothing special... For 38.20. The 3 dipping sauces couldn't improve that either. I hope they were at least homemade. The second meal, the shrimp, was okay in terms of quantity, but the baked potato was "filled" with sour cream and a so-called cocktail sauce that tasted extremely of vinegar and capers. I didn't really like it. I know a sauce like this as Garibaldi sauce. We would also like to mention that it can be difficult, at least for tall visitors, to get their legs underneath the table with extremely deep frames. In our case, the table always wobbled and shifted and the legs felt like they were jammed.

We invited our son's in-laws over for dinner. At the waiter's recommendation, we had various dishes on the hot stone. My wife had 200 grams of shrimp, I had 5 different meats ("mixed meat from the stone"). Unfortunately, it was not clear on the plate which type it was - but unfortunately everything looked the same. The amount of meat was very "manageable" and I was disappointed. Was that actually 250 grams?? Our main courses were not cheap at €38.20. The small starter salad was also good "very simple", seemed "loveless" and unfortunately not like the promised "salad of the season". There are many good restaurants in the surrounding area where the price-performance ratio is significantly better. The young man from the service did everything very well, was very attentive and extremely friendly. The ambience of the potato is rustic and cozy.

We received a very friendly welcome. The restaurant is furnished in a rustic, cozy manner. We immediately felt very comfortable. In the basement there is a vault which is open in summer... to “cool off” The beer garden is also open in summer. The specialty is food from the hot stone. You roast your meat yourself on site to suit your taste. We found the food very good and would love to come back! Just something different... You can park outside the old town, but it's not far away.

A mega (taste) experience. A mixed salad with yogurt dressing started the meal, and the highlight was a beautiful, juicy steak fresh from the hot stone with delicious homemade sauces. The steak is served whole, more or less raw but seasoned. This allows you to simply cut bite-sized pieces and fry them as desired. The homemade sauces were delicious (garlic, mustard, and a cocktail sauce with a very fitting cinnamon note). As a side dish, there were two—unfortunately a bit dry, but still delicious—baked potatoes with herb quark.

Rustic, cozy atmosphere. A little cramped, but not uncomfortable yet. In winter you don't need to dress warmly in there, otherwise you'll sweat, which is also due to the hot lava stones on which the steaks are served. The potatoes and steak were excellent! Even our two children (6 and 8) ate all of the meat, which is saying something. The service was also great, friendly and accommodating. The prices are already high, but they match the quality. What's very bad is that there were no direct parking spaces nearby as it is located in the middle of the one-way street in the historic city center. You have to take this into account when traveling from further away.

The oven/grill potato arrived very carelessly prepared. My partner's steak was ok. But the price just wasn't there justified at €39 I think €8.10 for 2 stuffed mushrooms is just too much. All in all it was ok but I wouldn't recommend it. Price-performance doesn't fit here for me.

Incomprehensible in terms of price! Food was okay but not really much. The ambience is actually very nice, but the background noise is almost unbearable (vaulted cellar). Conclusion you can make. But I wouldn't recommend it!

The cellar vault is breathtakingly beautiful! 1. stuffed mushroom, very tasty! 1. Potato soup, very spicy and delicious 2. baked potatoes with sour cream and herbs, well! 2. baked potato with red cocktail cream and. green peppercorns, tastes like intense spicy ketchup, not very tasty! Both dishes described are exceptional, initially delicious, then overpowering and finally disgusting! Both sauces are too intense and we could only eat half of them! Staff is quite monotonous. After eating and returning half the potato, there was no question as to whether it was tasty. All in all, for total € 51, - not a successful evening! It's a shame, we had good feelings - for the first and now probably the last time.

Exceptional quality! Probably the best sirloin steak I've ever eaten. Everything is homemade here, we were very impressed.

The restaurant is spacious and has terrace seating. Meat grilled on a bedrock is tender and juicy. Sour cream with roasted potatoes is definitely delicious. The customer service from the staff is also great.

I get the concept of hot stone and meat but still don't understand why I should pay so much to prepare meat myself and get the heat of 400° stone in my face, there is no option to just order a medium rare steak.

Six of us had reserved a table before a concert. Worked wonderfully. First of all: there is nothing to complain about the quality of the food, but it is incomprehensible that you have to wait 80 minutes for a raw piece of meat (grilled yourself on a hot stone) with baked potatoes (which are definitely pre-cooked). Well the shop was full, I think all the tables were reserved, maybe the processes should be optimized. There were two ladies in service taking orders, one very friendly and one - well let's say less friendly. When we asked if we could have some more water, the answer was: not now, I'm busy right now. An absolute no-go for a restaurant!!! This and the long waiting time annoyed us.

Rustic restaurant in a 17th century building. Rather simple menu, but all dishes (there were seven of us) are very good. The steaks from the hot stone, which you prepare yourself at the table, are special. But even something as simple as baked potato with sour cream tasted exceptionally good.

A very stylish restaurant. Being able to make your own steak is nice. Beer is what it is, but you can definitely drink it. Unfortunately, it ends at 10 p.m., although one could stay longer now in the summer.

Great place to get a steak. You won't get one served like this in the US! Great food and fun friendly staff. You must eat here!! Old style restaraunt with very awesome staff and great service and the food is great! Your stomach will thank you! One of my all time favorite restaraunts anywhere in the world.

Well, it's been many years since I was last there. I ordered a chevre chaud salad. I was disappointed. A small bowl with just a green salad and on a very small plate two slices of white bread with two slices of goat cheese each. The goat cheese was good, but I found it bland and uncreative. €14.90 for this is not justified. My partner had a mini sirloin steak on the hot stone with a baked potato. That was okay. For dessert he ordered apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and cream. I didn't expect homemade ice cream anyway, but it wasn't good ice cream either. The strudel wasn't homemade and the cream came from a can. Too bad!
