Die Eselei in Frankfurt am Main

We were absolutely thrilled! It was super friendly, super attentive, and super delicious! We'd love to come back!

We were taken to "Die Eselei" by our daughter because of the positive reviews and we weren't averse to it because the service was friendly too! I sat with my back to the wall, directly across from the food counter. We ordered and received our drinks quite quickly. However, while I was waiting, my eyes kept wandering to the exit and what I saw turned my stomach!!! At MD and BK people scream about how “uncleanly” the staff handles the food. This man who “filled” the plates didn’t do it with ladles, spoons or tongs! Every food item was “pasted” with a greasy hand. The cell phone kept coming back, after which people didn't clean their hands but wiped them on their stomachs so they could then touch the next sausages etc. The fries were spooned from the bowl onto the plate with the whole hand and every now and then one was put into the mouth. When it was quiet, he would lie down with his bare upper arms over the service counter and type on his cell phone again (without even cleaning his hands). Your health will be happy! The staff should urgently be trained!! 😵‍💫 Answer to managing director: I'm not the kind of person who makes a scene in front of customers and that's why I've expressed my opinion here! Thank you for the detailed answer and I am always open to a second chance. We would be happy to stop by again because we enjoyed the food! But I also hope that this employee has actually learned his part. 🙋‍♀️

I didn't think it was bad. The coffee and pancakes were really tasty and the staff is very friendly. However, I imagine “with fresh fruit, served in a pan” to be a little different than just a handful of berries for decoration. And the pan could also be a little more stylish or subtle instead of such a huge thing for two small pancakes. I wasn't at all impressed with the sanitary facilities, especially in a restaurant of this type.

Spontaneous visit for lunch. Two tables were pushed together very easily (there were 7 of us). Very friendly staff. The food was very nicely prepared and tasted very good. Sausage salad, baked potato, minced steak, sausages with fries, everyone was very satisfied. Experience has shown that the cider is always top with the “Lahmen Donkey” and the “Eselei”. We'd love to come back!

Donkey is a real heartfelt recommendation. In an otherwise hectic and chaotic shopping center, you can relax and enjoy delicious German cuisine. I've been to Eselei twice now and am thrilled with the food. The schnitzels there are very tasty, and I would particularly like to highlight the “Schüttelsalat”. The salad is served in a mason jar and you can shake it to mix the dressing well with the salad. Really a good idea! The service staff is very friendly. We look forward to the next time 👍🏼

It could be so nice…..in itself a nice facility and a really nice selection of food. Unfortunately, service staff are often unfriendly and not very customer-oriented. We had liver - it was visible and badly burned - we complained to an unenthusiastic waitress and it was then prepared 'freshly'. Well, it's just stupid because the 'new liver' was visibly burned again. This makes you wonder if there is no temperature control on the stove. It was definitely the last time we threw money there.

Food, as expected, very tasty, portions just right, everything very lovingly prepared. Tastes very good.

We had breakfast in a group and were super happy with the service and the quality of the deluxe breakfast for two. We didn't expect it 😁

Very well eaten heaven and earth

We were visiting Frankfurt today and were looking for a tasty refreshment before the return journey. The restaurant caught the eye because of its funny name and was chosen straight away after looking at the menu. The food was super delicious! The meat was very tender and juicy. The fried egg was perfect, crispy on the bottom and still slightly runny on top when you cut it. Everything was very seasoned, the chicken curry was beautifully fruity thanks to the mango. Really perfect and very good portion sizes! The service was very friendly and really quick. Drinking came immediately. The side dish, the salad in a glass, was also brought directly to the table. After about 10 minutes the food was on the table. Ambiance was nice too. Everything is chic and furnished to a high standard. The chairs are super comfortable. Overall, a really nice local place that we can recommend with a clear conscience!

Very tasty food in the middle of the northwest center. I had a very good tarte flambée and a passion fruit lemonade here. The price was super fair and the service was also very quick and friendly. The ambience is very nicely decorated and the toilets are clean.

The food itself was delicious, but the tarte flambée was burnt on the side. I told customer service about this, but the response was nothing more than a tired smile. But the potato peels are highly recommended. The furnishings were very comfortable and seemed inviting.

We often have breakfast at the Eselei, but unfortunately breakfast gets boring at some point and you want a bit of variety. We have often communicated this and were also told that something is being prepared. Unfortunately, six months later nothing has happened. Otherwise, the service at the Eselei is outstanding!

A nice restaurant, with very nice staff and a great menu.

Had breakfast there yesterday and it was delicious again. Although my boiled egg was not soft, it was medium hard. I complained about it and a new one was brought to me. It was soft but unfortunately too soft. But I didn't want to complain again. You could just about eat it.

Very tasty food and friendly service

A restaurant that has now made a good name for itself throughout the area. This is where you go if you like to eat in the Nordweststadt shopping center. The main building is far away and is also very well attended. Here it is simply good and delicious to eat very well at normal prices.

We've actually been regulars since it opened (about twice a week) and wanted to stay that way because the food was (almost) always good and the seating was nice. Yesterday we finally got it. After a hard day's work of 9 hours, we just wanted to have something for lunch around 3 p.m. A sign at the entrance telling you to wait until your seat was allocated was new and didn't bother us. So we waited briefly until one of three waitresses came to us. Since the restaurant was 90% empty inside and out at the time, we were happy that all the tables by the window were still free and asked if we could sit down there. The waitresses looked at each other and one of them said, "No! Only at a table for two!" There were two of us at the time, but we weren't asked if anyone else was coming or anything like that. The tables by the window are tables for four and we have often sat there as a couple. With an almost empty store, we didn't see any problem with it. But the service apparently does. We then said that it was out of the question for us. To which the only answer was “not then!” In an indifferent tone. Which is a shame because we are actually always friendly and leave good money there. For two, around €60. The food is actually good too. But every time - and this wasn't the first time - you are exposed to the arbitrariness of one or another operator. And we won't do that anymore. After this snippy dismissal from above, we are no longer willing to accept it. Unfortunately the owner wasn't there at the time, otherwise we would have told him directly. Using this portal is the last resort. But you don't have to let the waitresses treat you like that. P. S. An hour later there were exactly two people sitting at these two tables. I call that arbitrariness!

Wanted to eat here but were ignored by the waiters at the entrance. Walked past us like we were invisible. When you greeted them to ask for a table inside, they simply greeted you back without further ado. It wasn't very crowded at the time...

Good food and drink at reasonable prices. Friendly and attentive service. Large outdoor terrace for sitting outside when the temperature is right.

I had goulash soup and a salad (from a jar), both of which were very good. Goulash soup the way I like it with lots of meat! Salad dressing is great. Service was also very friendly and accommodating. In my opinion you can't eat better in a shopping center :)

A nice "oasis" in the hustle and bustle of the northwest center. Also great with children. Delicious regional cuisine, priced a bit higher, but still ok. Service very nice and quick. Definitely recommended for a (shopping) break.

Eselei is really a great shop! The food is delicious and the people are really nice. Really well seasoned and perfectly prepared. The location is also cool and you immediately feel at home. The service is friendly and attentive, so everything is great! I can only recommend it!

Dung beetles in salad... I don't normally write reviews, good or bad. But now all restaurants are getting worse and worse when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen. The service staff probably can't do anything about it, but they should work really cleanly in the kitchen and, above all, wash the salad properly or watch out for what's crawling around in the kitchen during preparation. My husband had a side salad that was beautifully served in a disposable glass, but when he had almost finished eating it, he almost ate a bug. It wasn't a small one, which one might have been able to cope with, no, it was similar in size to a dung beetle... After that, even I lost my appetite and we couldn't eat any more. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she started laughing and was a bit unprofessional… Normally you would have to give a discount for something like this. As I said, I really don't like writing a review, even a bad one, but that's just not possible. No matter whether it is a high-quality restaurant or just a small one in a shopping center.

Staff unfriendly Was there with family, left after 10 minutes because we were neither served nor noticed... Only when we got up and wanted to leave were we told that the condition would come soon... But since we were hungry and the children were starting to get restless, we left, but then we were called after that we had better go to McDonald's... The best restaurant in the northwest center. Yesterday I ate a potato bacon pan with fresh chanterelles, herb sour cream and a side salad. It was a delicious combination that I haven't had in a long time.

Ich bestellte eine Salatbowl für 16,90€, die insgesamt nett angerichtet war, aber kaum Dressing enthielt. Also bat ich die Bedienung mir noch etwas Dressing zu bringen. Nach ca. 15 Minuten war leider immer noch kein weiteres Dressing bei mir angekommen. Deshalb sprach ich die Bedienung noch mal an und erhielte ein leicht genervtes: "Ich habe Sie nicht vergessen." Ich antwortete, dass ich irgendwann ja auch gerne mal weiter essen würde, zumal der Ziegenkäse natürlich langsam kalt wurde. Sie ging dann zur Küche, holte eine Schale mit Dressing und knallte sie mir zunächst kommentarlos auf den Tisch, wobei das Dressing überschwappte. Im Weggehen sagte sie dann noch irgendwas Ironisches, was ich nicht richtig verstanden habe. Es war viel los, aber ganz ehrlich - Muss man sich als Gast so behandeln lassen?

The salads are great, both in terms of the mixture (not just leaves) and the homemade dressing! The meat is excellent, both in terms of quality and degree of browning. The sauces are homemade and have the perfect seasoning! The waitresses are friendly and pay attention to cleanliness. The only thing that bothers me is that you never let a guest sit with an empty glass and that you weren't greeted when you came in. Therefore 4 stars. The ambience is clean, rustic style, the toilets are also very clean! Thank you, we'll definitely be back! 👍

Actually, we just wanted to grab something spontaneously and were looking for a restaurant with seating... we didn't expect much... BUT I can recommend this restaurant to everyone. I have rarely had such good quality food in my life. The schnitzel was juicy like none I've ever eaten before. The chanterelle sauce is simply amazing. We also ordered potato peelings... was skeptical at first. But they were so incredibly delicious and the dip was the perfect complement. The salads and jarred dressing were also good. I wish this restaurant would also exist here in BW. Service was very quick and friendly.

I dined on site on April 25, 2024. I found the atmosphere inviting. The service at my table was very friendly. The Frankfurter Schnitzel we ordered was served quickly. The food was okay, but I had to add more salt. In terms of price, I think the portion size is too small. I give the food 3 out of 5 stars. Due to the particularly friendly service, I give it a total of 4 out of 5 stars.

The food is delicious, from schnitzel to steak. The fried potatoes were slightly burnt in one place or another - otherwise delicious. But the service...it's just not right the way it went today. Very specifically: From the first time you sit down to receiving the card, it takes about 15 minutes; from placing the order to receiving the food approx. 40min; It takes about 20 minutes from the request to receive the invoice to the payment. The prices are not cheap, but considering the rising costs they are still relatively fair (restaurateurs also have to live on something). Overall, the bad mood or the feeling of being overlooked remains. You don't have to go through that in Frankfurt given the large selection on offer.

I've eaten here several times. The side dish portions were sometimes really meager. I made myself known every time and was told that I was welcome to have some more. I don't want to have to tell you every time and ask for an appropriate portion. The plates should simply be portioned normally. I pay appropriately and don't want to beg. I had the minced steak with fried potatoes and had a total of about one medium-sized potato on my plate. I regret not taking a photo of it, then there wouldn't be two opinions here. Since I've had this experience 3-4 times now, that's it for me.

Bad service. They don't really listen when you don't want something on your plate. --Lestern behind guests-- Not recommended anymore... The chef also changes the plate as he likes, sometimes more, sometimes less of the meat for the same dish... Apparently the weather caused no desire to work. And the bong isn't on the table. I'm very dissatisfied... Apparently the older guests don't care about receipts or not.

The Eselei is a small “highlight” in the northwest city. We regularly have breakfast (deluxe for two) there with the whole family. Good selection and still reasonable price. The quality and presentation are above average. The delicious and unusual daily specials also stand out from the usual variety. The friendly service shouldn't go unmentioned. However, you should reserve a table during peak times (e.g. Saturday morning).

Excellent, mostly apparently home-made food. You don't expect something like that in a mall. We are all the happier that we ended up here by chance. The ambience is also very above average for mail standards. At the next opportunity, I'd be happy to come back here, or in the "parents' house" To the lame donkey!

I really like being in the donkey shop. The breakfast is wonderful and plentiful. The service is always friendly, even when the workload is high. The daily specials are also good. Everything is freshly prepared and, above all, beautifully arranged. At peak times, you should bring your time and perhaps reserve in advance if there are several people.

Guter Apfelwein nette Bedienung

Eine Freundin hatte von der Kartoffelsuppe geschwärmt, und ich kann es hundertprozentig bestätigen, diese Suppe ist einfach super lecker. Die Präsentation ist sehr ansprechend, der Service freundlich und die Ambiente sehr entspannt. Meine 2 Begleiterinnen waren von der Quiche mit Salat und grüner Soße ebenfalls begeistert.

Es ist ein Restaurant, in dem regionale Gerichte serviert werden. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist gut. Das einzige Manko ist, dass es wenige Sitzplätze gibt.

Das Essen ist in Ordnung. Es sind wie fast überall etwas wenig Servicekräfte eingestellt oder es waren welche krank an den besuchten Tagen. Alles gut.

Hatte Fleischkäse mit Bratkartoffeln und Spiegeleier sehr lecker.

Wir waren nach paar Besorgungen am morgen im NWZ hungrig und sind spontan in die Eselei. Bestellt haben wir Pancakes und Kaiserschmarrn, die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Essen war schnell da und lecker.

Ich war positiv überrascht, aber das Café ist ruhiger als man denkt (immerhin mitten im Nordwestzentrum) und die Einrichtung ist modern und freundlich. Der Service ist aufmerksam, das Essen (wir waren zum Frühstück) war sehr ansprechend angerichtet und lecker. Ich würde definitiv wieder kommen, auch mit Preis-Leistung war ich zufrieden.

Wer im Nordwestzentrum wie ein Mensch essen möchte, also auch mit seinem alkoholischen oder alkoholfreiem Getränk, ist dieses Lokal genau richtig

Situato all'interno del centro commerciale Northwest Zentrum (a pochi km da Francoforte) è un locale molto carino e ben curato, i prezzi sono medio-alti tuttavia la qualità del cibo è tutto sommato ottima. Cordiali le cameriere. Porzioni nella media.

Sehr leckeres und ausgiebiges Frühstück gehabt (Luxus für 2). Empfehlenswert! Und auch das heutige Mittagessen war spitze !!

Ok, meine Erwartungshaltung war bei einem Restaurant in einem Einkaufszentrum niedrig. Und sie wurde SEHR übertroffen! Ambiente, Speisen, Preise, Service: wirklich alles war top! Gerne wieder!

Hier lohnt es sich essen zu gehen. Top Hausmannskost. Toller Service und frische Speisen. Das Lokal befindet sich in einem Einkaufszentrum.

Sehr leckeres Essen, sehr freundliches Personal (als Stammgast bekommst Du Dein Getränk ohne Bestellung gebracht) Danke Konstantin. Im Sommer ist es leider etwas warm im Zentrum, aber ab Herbst wieder regelmäßig da.

Nach Oktober 2021 wieder ein Genuss 👍 und absolutes Must-do für meine „belgischen“ Kolleginnen, die alle 6 Monate nach Frankfurt kommen und hier „heimische Spezialitäten“ - alles mit Grüne Soße - speisen möchten. Super erreichbar - drin wie draußen gute Plätze -, aufmerksamer wie flotter Service und einfach LECKER! Mein Favorit ist die Vesperplatte mit Landbrot und wir wollen kurzfristig unseren Shopping-Samstag mit einem Eselei-Frühstück einleiten 🤩 Ich werde berichten 😃

Was für eine tolle Idee für die gesunde Mittagspause! Der frische Salat im Glas - selbstverständlich geschüttelt und nicht gerührt🤣Sehr zu empfehlen das Bio Rührei zum Frühstück. Und das alles mitten im Einkaufszentrum… ich freu mich schon auf meinen ersten Abendbesuch. Ach ja, toller Service- schnell, freundlich und mein Extrawunsch Cappuccino mit weniger Milch hat auf Anhieb geklappt. 👏👏
