Very nice city, stopped at the restaurant, very friendly staff (despite the stress/almost all the tables were occupied) I liked the employee (Christina) the most, super nice, took care of everything, everything was great🤗 So now to eat: my husband had lamb fillet and I had the Burger de Luxembourg... a dream of meat and delicious👍👍👍 I can recommend it 100%!!! The tastiest spit roast in years, simply great. Always a pleasure when we are in Idar-Oberstein.

We had dinner here this evening with two adults and two children. The food tasted really good, but the service was catastrophic: First, our 11-year-old son was scolded by the waitress because, in her opinion, he ordered too quietly. Then, after quite a long wait, only part of the drink order was brought, the rest had apparently been forgotten. But now our absolute low point: The menu says that most of the dishes for children can also be ordered in smaller sizes. What is not there, however, is the information that this does not change the price. We paid exactly the same for the half portion (1 bratwurst) as we did for the adult portion (2 bratwursts). Only three euros were deducted for the side dish we ordered (potato salad). When asked about this, the waitress became downright aggressive and kept repeating that only the boss was allowed to decide on a price reduction, and that wasn't there today. Incidentally, we were not the only guests that evening who felt badly treated and who had disputes over billing. It's a real shame because we really enjoyed the food itself. Nevertheless, it will remain a one-off visit. Update: There is a reaction from the restaurant. See picture attached.

We ended up at the Old Chancellery through detours, but detours increase our local knowledge. We were happy with everything. The food was brought quickly and we chose Schinderhannesbraten and Spiesbraten with fire potatoes. A pleasure. We will come back in any case. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and made you feel comfortable.

The town is nice and there was some sort of running event for children going on when my friends and I stopped by the restaurant. I'd recommend going for the steak stuffed with grilled onions. A buddy had it and it was great! I also ordered the goat cheese drizzled with honey and that was a favorite.

This restaurant is great! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is good and the service is very friendly. It is also not necessarily expensive for the amount of food you get and the grill master knows what he is doing!

We were initially attracted by the wonderful smell that came from the swivel grill in the backyard. And the Black Angus steaks were wonderful, really medium and perfectly seasoned to our taste. And even though we ordered a side dish late (our mistake!) it was organized in a flash. Respect and thank you very much!

I've eaten there many times and have always been satisfied.

We ate here after visiting the rock church. The ambience is convincing and very inviting is the upper terrace. The food was also really good and I can recommend it without hesitation.

After 4 years we came back to Idar-Oberstein specifically for the spit roast...never had anything better than this spit roast, really cozy atmosphere and the staff from the boss to the waitress were extremely friendly. Frank at the grill answered a lot of questions and explained to us a lot about his passion for grilling. Thanks for that..we would come back at any time If we could give more stars, we would 👍👍👍

Awesome late lunch here with my family (parents and two sisters) and it was everything we wanted. Between the 5 of us we ordered the pork loin (x2) and the beef loin(x2), fries, and potato salad, the main dishes came with shredded radish salad. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. We were hard pressed to think of a better preparation. Sabine took excellent care of us. We all left full and happy.

Had a pork fillet spit roast and my son had the spaghetti with tomato sauce. Everything was very tasty. Nice service

Mit einem lächeln , viel Freundlichkeit wurden wir in der Alten Kanzlei am Markt Platz Idar Oberstein empfangen . Schneller Service und ein hervorragendes Essen , ein Gaumenschmaus - Spießbraten vom Angus Rind ,herrlich Medium auf einem offen Feuer gebraten verwöhnte uns alle Sinne . Auch die Beilage wie Rettich Salat klasse Marinade , die Pommes und ebenso das Fleisch wurden heiß serviert . Obwohl dieses Restaurant sehr gut besucht war , funktionierte der Service schnell und freundlich. Begleitet von toller Musik im Außenbereich durften wir einen Wunderschönen Abend in diesem Herrlichen Ambiente verbringen . Vielen lieben Dank an den Inhaber Stefan M. & Personal. After a hike, we just wanted to have a drink on the three-quarters empty sun terrace, so we just flew out! Eating seems to be mandatory here.

Very good food, romantic atmosphere. We were regular customers for over 8 years. Unfortunately the service was very unfriendly. That's why we don't visit this restaurant anymore.

Although only a moderate number of people weren't there until later, we still didn't get our food after 1 hour and 40 minutes and guests who ordered much later got their food before us after 10-20 minutes. When the food came, the steak and salad dressing were way too salty. The motto: "I can be nice too, but it doesn't help" (it's really written there 😂) because they didn't even apologize for the really long waiting time, they just said "it's not something you can do about it". An absolute disgrace and I STRONGLY ADVISE NOT EATING THERE!

Very tasty, great location and perfect service in a great atmosphere. The service in the spit roast house is really perfect. Please make a reservation so that nothing stands in the way of enjoyment. The selection of dishes is diverse and regional. The ambience is very rustic and just invites you to feel good. The food is available from the kitchen or from the grill on the upper floor. Great, we look forward to another visit.

Absolutely great, rustic location that is highly recommended. Very nice and uncomplicated staff. The staff responds to special requests without any problems. Unfortunately we weren't able to eat spit roast as it takes at least 40 minutes. This is understandable because every spit roast is freshly prepared. That's why we treated ourselves to a spit roast salad, which was really, really tasty. Thank you for the lovely stay and keep it up!!!

There was a very generous portion of delicious rolled roast with fresh salads. Friendly and very professional service. Restaurant tastefully and comfortably furnished. We would like to come again.

Fast service and pleasant setting. Meat dish was good. Not scampi salad; way too salty and mostly overcooked vegetables. It's best to take a meat dish, which they specialize in. The dessert, apple strudel, was also good.

Unfortunately 1 star deducted because I find the prices steep. Side dishes could have been included (portion of fries e.g. 4 Eu, even if it was a large portion)... that's a shame. Otherwise there was nothing to complain about!!!!!!!

If you are in Idar-Oberstein, you should eat there. Regional and very tasty food. Unfortunately, the restaurant management is a bit too relaxed. If you don't have enough staff - which is unfortunately often the case at the moment - it might be better to accept fewer reservations. Then the guests won't be left to dry 🍷🍺 and won't wait so long for food 😉

Eine Perle an der mittleren Nahe. NUR HIER gibts den Original Spießbraten auf Buchenholz Feuer mit Rettich Salat und Ofenkartoffeln. Da lohnt sich die Anfahrt von 80 km jederzeit! Einfach GEIL!

Wir waren im obersten Stockwerk, Schweinefilet mit Rettich war sehr gut,doch die Pommes kamen 15min später. Geht garnicht

Das Beste Restaurant in Idar. Hervorragende lokale Küche mit sehr gutem Schwenk-Braten und anderen Optionen. Freundliche Bedienung und angenehme Atmosphäre.

Eine super Küche! Hier schmeckt es !!! Waren gestern dort eingekehrt und haben den besten Schwenksteak, den ich je gegessen hab,dort gefunden. Sehr lecker !!!Außerdem muss man löblich den Kuchen, der dort selbst gebacken wird erwähnen. Wir wohnen zwar 70 km von Idar-Oberstein entfernt, aber diese Küche ist auf jeden Fall wieder eine Reise wert.

Gezien het mooie weer zat het terras vol, maar ik kreeg een plaatsje binnen, wat ik dan weer niet erg vond, gezien het met deze tijd van het jaar toch snel afkoelt. Ik werd vlot en vriendelijk bediend. Eten was van voortreffelijke kwaliteit en de porties voldoende ruim.

Sehr schöne traditionelle Gaststätte mit Außenbereich in bester Lage. Essen hervorragend, top Qualität, Wein lecker. Wir haben dort einen wunderschönen Abend verbracht. Besonders erwähnen möchte ich Servicefachkraft Christina. Trotz Stress super freundlich und lustig. Das gehört zu einem schönen Abend dazu. Danke sehr!

Die Alte Kanzlei ist ein Muss wenn man vor Ort ist. Wir sind jedes Mal hier zum Essen wenn wir in Idar-Oberstein sind. Das Fleisch perfekt 😋, wir haben noch nie besser gegessen als dort. Der Service 1a und die Leute dort, vom Chef bis zur Kellnerin alle top und sehr sehr nett. Wie gesagt immer wenn wir vor Ort sind findet man uns im Spießbratenhaus Alte Kanzlei und so wird es auch immer bleiben. 👍👍👍

Nie wieder! Beim nächsten Mal suche ich besser ein anderes Lokal auf .Tourist trap, freundlich aber schlecht.

Prima restaurant. 3 nachten in Idar verbleven en hier 6 keer gegeten. Alles was goed behalve die ene hoogblonde iets oudere dame in de bediening. Weet niet wat haar probleem was. Als ik ihaar aandacht trok om lets te vragen keek ze mij niet aan en stuurde zij haar collega. Voor de rest was het personeel aardig mee werkend/denkend,snel, behulpzaam, en natuurlijk was het eten goed.

Leuke plek om te eten. Via Tripadvisor hier beland en genoten van een Spiessbraten van Roastbeef. Die was echt onwijs lekker! Perfect gebakken/gegrild. Wel raar dat je voor de 'beilage' (patat of iets anders) apart moet betalen. Zoiets moet er bij zitten. Mayonaise is niet lekker, beetje 'salademaya' (zurig) maar de kruidenboter is een absolute aanrader!

Sehr gute essen beste Grill auf offene feuer mit Feuer Kartoffeln, leider etwas länger warten Zeit weil viel Betrieb aber es lohnt sich.

Gutes Essen, aber die Soßen haben leider nicht nach frischen Zuraten geschmeckt, deshalb einen Punkt Abzug. Nettes Ambiente, zentral gelegen am Aufgang zur Felsenkirche.

The food was cooked to perfection. Tasty and well priced. We met the owner and he is super friendly and a master at the GRILL…. Please order any steak… you will not be disappointed!

Das Essen war geschmacklich gut, doch unter einem Rettichsalat verstehe ich etwas anders als eine Dekoration am Rande des Tellers. Das große Bier über 5€ ist zu teuer - gerade im Vergleich zu anderen Gaststätten in Idar-Oberstein. Nicht ganz verständlich war zudem, dass neben den „vegetarischen Gerichten“ auf der Speisekarte weiter standen, diese jedoch nicht gekennzeichnet waren.
