Everything was great! Highly recommended!

I'd love to review the food, but I never got around to it. Someone quickly showed us to our table, but from then on, no one showed up. The waitresses kept walking past us without serving us, let alone asking what we wanted to drink. After 20 minutes, we got up and left.

Unfortunately, service in the restaurant was very slow. Although it was only moderately busy, we weren't served for 15 minutes. During this time, we observed that other guests also had to wait a long time for their food – even a larger group only received their salads every 10 minutes.

Good taste and quality (4*) Portion size for an adult man was rather small in relation to the price (3*) The wait time was rather above average with a table occupancy of about 40% (about 50 minutes for three main courses, without an appetizer). Our order didn't include a spit roast, as we were informed when ordering that it would take about 40 minutes to prepare. The majority of the staff is friendly, but some are very matter-of-fact and direct. I pay attention to the tone of voice, recommendations, and acting in the best interests of the guest. So, for example, if a guest orders a pizza for a little girl, I assume it will be served sliced ​​and I don't have to mention it. We had an outdoor table, which was clean. The Spießbratenhaus is located right on a small, cozy square in the pedestrian zone. Overall, I recommend it, but I advise guests to plan for a bit of a wait. I advise restaurant management to pay a little more attention to how the staff interacts with guests and to increase the portion sizes of the side dishes slightly.

The schnitzel was super delicious 🤤 The price was absolutely justified. The atmosphere was rustic, pub-style.

I highly recommend it. The "Grandma Inge" toilet and the freshly prepared spit roast on the fire 🔥 are a delight.

We had a spit-roasted salad with fire-roasted potatoes and a spit-roasted entrecote. Both were truly delicious! Highly recommended!

A very nice, rustic restaurant. 3 stars are well-intentioned. Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for our food. Two guests who arrived after us finished their meals before our food even arrived at the table. The steak, or rather the spit roast, was supposed to be medium, but was more raw and fatty than well-cooked. It must have been prepared quickly because we were forgotten, and it also got cold too quickly. Therefore, I gave 1/3 of the cold, greasy 3/4 raw spit roast to my dog instead. The food, or rather the taste of the spit roast, is not worth the €90-100. However, the waiter and waitress were excellent and very friendly and attentive.

The staff was very friendly, but they were under the boss's control. We also had the same experience with the boss, who was very rude to us... The food was excellent!

The food was delicious, but the service was unfortunately very poor. After 45 minutes, we were able to order our food (we had to ask several times). Then, after asking several times, we struggled to pay. Our patience was tested, and we nearly walked out. The staff seemed to have no overview.

Friendliness seems to be a low priority here. We understand if a restaurant is fully booked on a Friday night (even though it wasn't apparent from the tables!), but we can't understand why, when you ask a really friendly question, you're treated so rudely, as if you'd just attacked the person!

The place has a lot of charm, everything was to our liking, they have an excellent product that smelled the same as its flavor, the owner of the grill came over to say hello and to tell us where his products come from and the quality he likes to offer his diners, when we return we will give ourselves that pleasure of eating German meat again, thank you

Delicious, we were satisfied. I later learned during a tour of the Stollen that I should have complained about the 0.5 cm of spit roast on my XL burger. But otherwise, I was actually satisfied at the time of my visit.

The meat was completely dry, and we waited an hour for our food. Considering the restaurant's name is Spiebratenhaus, this one was a disaster. Very dry!

We stopped by this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat. We immediately loved the rustic atmosphere. Our hostess took our requests into account and let us taste the wine we had chosen in advance, after recommending it. The food we ordered was served relatively quickly and absolutely exceeded our expectations – we both chose the spit roast with different types of meat, of course. Simply divine, and highly recommended! The price-performance ratio is absolutely fine, considering the fresh, authentic cooking and grilling using the best ingredients. Highly recommended for the region!

The value for money leaves much to be desired. Just any breaded piece of meat isn't a schnitzel. I definitely don't want to go back.

€20 is pretty steep for a Schwenkbraten (they call it a Spießbraten there, even though it's not a rolled roast on a spit). Fries cost another €5 extra. The quality, however, was very good.

Here, spit roast isn't just on the menu; it's a real treat. The best in the region. Service and ambiance take care of the rest. A must-try when visiting Idar-Oberstein.

Very friendly service, quick service, and excellent quality. We didn't need a side dish; the portions are designed for hungry guests 😀 The restaurant is beautifully located below the Felsenkirche church in a very quiet pedestrian zone. We'd love to come back again.

Disappointing Experience – Not Recommended Our visit to the Spießbratenhaus was unfortunately very disappointing. The service left a lot to be desired – we were ignored for a long time, had to ask several times, and ultimately almost begged to be allowed to pay at all. The service seemed uncoordinated and overwhelmed. Particularly annoying: Although the noticeboard said card payments should be accepted, we were suddenly refused this when paying. No comprehensible explanation was given. After waiting over half an hour for the bill, we spoke directly to one of the staff members. Unfortunately, the situation was not handled professionally – instead, we received rude responses. What was particularly irritating was that blanket, inappropriate statements were made about the restaurant's own staff, which we found very inappropriate. It's a shame – we were looking forward to our visit, but we will definitely choose a different restaurant in the future. A restaurant thrives on hospitality – which we unfortunately missed here.

A very unpleasant waitress works here. She's only friendly with older people. She pretends not to notice us so she doesn't serve us. With service like that, it's better to go to another good restaurant.

This is one of the few spit roast restaurants that still serves the original spit roast. I highly recommend it. The service is friendly and attentive. We had the spit roast roast beef and the spit roast roast beef special. The portions are quite manageable without side dishes. Keep in mind that the wait can easily be 30-40 minutes. We found the spit roast with radish salad very good. We would definitely eat here again.

Totally overwhelmed. Several tables free inside, some reserved outside. Unfortunately, a normal answer to our question about whether a table for four people was available wasn't available. None of the three employees we spoke to could provide one. What a shame.

We've been there several times with friends. The food is highly recommended. The service is always very friendly.

Looking for dinner after arriving around 8pm we found this restaurant. It was very busy but they got us in and served us. The food was very good, we all ordered typical German plates. I saw that they had steaks but did not realize they had an open grill out back until after we ordered. The steaks looked delicious and if I were to go back I would order one! My group all had good meals and were very happy. A little difficult to get our ticket and get out because they were so busy. Definitely give this place a shot, worth the time spent.

I rated highly because each staff were very friendly and smiling! We went there as 5 people with reservation. We dine in. They check on our table often. I ordered chicken breast with lemon and herb butter, rice and salad. It was absolutely delicious. We sat outside, spent time almost three hours. Atmosphere was amazing. The location of the restaurant is so easy!

We were here on Mother's Day and know the restaurant from before. As usual, the food was very tasty, freshly prepared, very nice, friendly and attentive service, nice atmosphere, the prices correspond to the high quality of the dishes. Highly recommended.

We often come by here with our cycling group. Basically, the meat in particular is of very good quality, which you can't necessarily find everywhere these days. The ingredients such as potatoes, salads, etc. are also fresh and prepared according to good old traditions. You can tell that a lot of effort goes into ensuring that the guest is satisfied. Above all, the prices are absolutely acceptable, which is something you can't say anywhere else. I can therefore absolutely recommend the restaurant.

The service was very attentive and friendly. I also really liked the atmosphere. And of course the most important thing: the food. I had the spit roast pork neck with fire potatoes and radish salad. I found it incredibly delicious. It was definitely worth the wait. I will definitely come back when I'm in Idar-Oberstein again.

It was the third time I had been here. Never had anything to complain about so far and despite an hour's drive I would come here again and again.

Were there with 8 people, schnitzel, spit roast, lamb. Food very good and satisfyingly large; Price/performance ok. Service alone, a bit scarce for the whole store, so always tried hard. Old half-timbered house, questionable in terms of escape routes. Sanitary facilities very cramped. Despite the good food, my visit was probably rather unique; especially due to the not particularly inviting location in Alt-Oberstein and the P-situation on site. Not suitable for handicapped people.

A very nice place, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We managed to get a table without a reservation and were very satisfied with our meal. It's a great place to stop after visiting the Gemstone Museum... and anytime, too 😉

I ordered entrecote medium today and when ordering I specifically said that I did NOT want it bloody. Of course it came out bloody...was put on the grill a second time and it came back just as bloody. Service unfriendly "I should have said I wanted to go through with it". The radish salad was good.

Extremely long waiting time for an almost empty restaurant. Maybe that's the intention so that guests order more beer. The specialty of spit roast is not worth mentioning at all and not what you would imagine. Not tender and brown, rather dry and chewy. A complete disaster in terms of price-performance ratio.

During our trip to Idar-Oberstein, we noticed this restaurant while climbing to the rock church - especially because of the seductive scent of beech smoke that was in the air. Open fires awaken the senses, and so we quickly decided: we had to eat here after our tour. We were warmly welcomed and given a nice seat with a view of the small market square. The expectations that the rustic smell of beech smoke had aroused were completely fulfilled. The fire potatoes impressed with their unmistakable aroma, the spit roast pork neck was tender as butter, and the radish salad brought a fresh, spicy note into play. A particularly positive surprise was the spit roast burger: thinly sliced, perfectly cooked slices of spit roast, lovingly topped and combined in a great burger - an original and extremely tasty variant. An all-round successful culinary experience – we would love to come back!

The pizza is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, making it clear that quality is a top priority here. It’s a place we keep coming back to, and it never disappoints!

Nice place, affordable prices. Inconvenient ordering system - first only drinks, then only food. While waiting for dessert, the coffee got cold. The pizza was brought, not cut, carelessly thrown on the table on the menu. Empty dishes are not removed until you leave the restaurant. Unfortunately, the visit left an unpleasant impression.

Great restaurant, great staff and delicious food!

We recently visited this restaurant and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Since the coffee machine was broken, we wanted to order a bottle of water and an apple strudel instead. However, the waitress informed us that normally it is not allowed to only order drinks and a dessert, but that you also have to order a main course. She said she only made an exception as an exception because the boss wasn't there - otherwise we would have had to leave the restaurant. What particularly surprised us was that there were several people sitting in the entrance area who were only drinking beer, and only 3 out of 10 tables in the restaurant were occupied. So we didn't feel like the restaurant was crowded or that we were taking up space. The waiter's tone was very uncomfortable and made us feel unwelcome. Such rules should either be clearly posted or communicated in a more friendly manner. Guests should feel welcome, even if they just order a little something. Positive: The apple strudel was fresh and delicious.

I was in this great restaurant for the second time a while ago and the food was simply fantastic! The chefs really did a great job – every dish was a delight. In addition, the staff was super friendly and attentive. I can only recommend it!

We were really looking forward to this visit. Also because of the positive reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed like we haven't been for a long time. The service in particular was a disaster. First they wanted to seat us at a large table of two close to a large group of 12 people. When we wanted to sit at a table for four a little further away, we were told that it was actually for four guests. We still asked to sit at the table for four. There were two more tables of 4 and 6 available. The whole thing was tolerated with appropriate facial expressions. But sorry... that doesn't work. We stayed for a little over an hour, but no other groups of 4 showed up. We didn't get our food at the same time. They also forgot to bring the salad to the schnitzel. This was only delivered upon request. And in the end we had to get the service ourselves to pay. At least the drinks came quickly. To eat: if the fresh mushrooms were with the schnitzel... well. The fries weren't good. The wild boar sausages were ok, but the potato salad listed on the menu was no longer available. The fire potatoes, as a replacement, were ok. But only 4 pieces and now not a blast. Price-performance and service simply don't fit.

Ended up in this restaurant by chance today. The original Idar-Obersteiner skewer or. We didn't enjoy the pan roast, but we saw it on the neighboring table and found it to be very good (because it was obviously prepared in the traditional way. As a native of Idar-Oberstein, I think I can judge that). Our food was ok. But what particularly impressed us was that there was both goulash and roulades on the daily menu, which you rarely find in restaurants these days. An insider tip in Idar-Oberstein is the restaurant “Zum Goldenen Hirsch” or also called “The Spießbratenhaus”. We are repeat visitors and always enjoy the juicy, delicious spit roast pork fillet with the delicious radish salad. The portions are large and lovingly prepared.
