Dahlhauser Landhaus in Fröndenberg/Ruhr

Good food, friendly service – but unfortunately not very flexible We visited the Dahlhauser Landhaus for my husband's 30th birthday with five adults and two small children. The staff were consistently friendly, and the food tasted good – however, there were a few aspects that noticeably spoiled the evening. We ordered a Fanta to share for our children (2 and 5 years old) – the menu only serves 0.5 liters. We asked for two glasses to divide the amount in a child-friendly way. Instead, each child was served their own 0.3 liters of Fanta – which is completely inappropriate for a two-year-old. The communication was friendly, but not very well thought out. The children received a small dessert (we ordered a main course for both of us, even for the two-year-old). The waitress specifically asked whether the children should have the Kinder Joy now or whether it would be better to have it secretly, which I highly commend. That was a friendly and very thoughtful gesture. I personally wanted to order only one children's meal, as I had two appetizers planned, so I could have dessert later. Unfortunately, this was strictly rejected – children's meals were reserved exclusively for children. A smaller portion or a so-called "pensioner's plate" was also not offered. A concession (e.g., a regular-sized children's meal at a higher price) would have been appreciated – especially from a sustainability perspective: I'd rather have a smaller portion than an unfinished main course. Wasting food is unacceptable to me, and if I know I won't be able to finish a large portion, I can't order it. When guests communicate this kind of thing, a restaurant should greatly appreciate it in these times of (sustainability debates/meat consumption)! I emphasized several times that it was too much for me and that I couldn't finish the entire main course. Despite talking to the server and calling another person over, no solution was offered, so in the end, I didn't eat anything and canceled my meals. I find this kind of treatment of food unacceptable. The salad was served, but there was no cutlery. The children had already started eating with their hands. When we asked, we were told that the waitress wasn't responsible. Only later, upon second request, did we receive cutlery – after the main courses had already been served. Conclusion: Good food, friendly service – but there's still a lot of room for improvement in terms of flexibility. Next time, I'd rather go to a restaurant that's more accommodating to guests' requests. Offering a smaller portion can't be such a feat. Edit in response to the reaction: I already wrote in my review that one option would have been to offer the children's meal for an adult price – I don't think that would have been difficult to implement. Especially considering that my neighbor and friend regularly visits her restaurant and can no longer eat large amounts after her gastric surgery, and confirmed to me yesterday that she had already been able to get a small plate. This makes the argument of unequal treatment indeed valid, as it clearly already exists. We'd be happy to make a second visit and hope that perhaps a solution can be found for a smaller main course that's still economically acceptable for you, but doesn't require you to take a large quantity with you or have to dispose of it. We would be very pleased to hear your feedback.

Super delicious schnitzel. Highly recommended

On our culinary tour we visited the Dahlhauser Landhaus for the first time. We reserved a table for four people in advance, which went smoothly. We found the ambience pleasant. The noise level in the dining room was a bit loud but not disturbing. The drinks and food were served promptly. We all agreed that we haven't had such good schnitzel dishes in a long time. The staff were attentive and friendly. We will definitely come back and try other dishes. A small note about the menu: It would be nice if the schnitzels were also available in 200g or 400g instead of small or medium. For us, 200g with a starter and side dishes was more than enough. And yes, the parking lot gets very full at peak times. All in all it was a lovely evening.

Very good food. The prices are absolutely reasonable, and the service is also very good, especially the waitress with the pink hair! I highly recommend it. We'll be back.

Pictured here is the duo of medium schnitzels. Medium isn't exactly a big deal, it's closer to huge. And freshly made, with homemade sauces. So far, everything was great. The weak point was, unfortunately, the very soggy fried potatoes. My wife had a pasta dish and was very happy with it. Update: On a recent visit, I opted for fries. And now I can say, everything was perfect. Such delicious schnitzel sauces and the amount of mushrooms on the schnitzels are hard to find at many other restaurants. My wife had the loin in pepper sauce this time, and they were also excellent!

Had to wait over an hour for food

The food is great, very tasty, respect!!! The waiters are a bit irritable, though; they literally reprimand you if you arrive too early/late, when a friendly reminder would have been enough. Appetizers could only be ordered with the main course, which meant that the food arrived before we'd even finished the starter. If you want really good food but can live without a great atmosphere, you absolutely have to go and see for yourself.

I can recommend it without reservation. There were six of us there, so we tried a variety of dishes, and everyone was full of praise for the quality and taste!

Incredibly, although it is already extinct in many cities in Germany, it is still on the menu here in the wild. "Finally a restaurant that hasn't yet been overrun by political correctness! Here you can still get the good old gypsy schnitzel - for everyone who doesn't want to sit on the couch and mope around. Cheers to culinary freedom!" And everything is well prepared and delicious. I would rate all dishes from pasta, vegetarian to my gypsy schnitzel with a grade of 2. I would like to highlight the staff, the young people have everything under control. We'll be back.

It tastes great. Very tasty and great price. You can always find something and it always tastes good. The only thing that is unfortunately not so great is the premises or the space. Unfortunately it is very loud because everyone is sitting in one room. This means you can't really enjoy the food and entertainment. But I would still come back because of the good food.

The food was very tasty. We had different "medium" schnitzels that were huge. However, we were able to have them packed up. Unfortunately we waited a relatively long time for the food. 50min. The beautiful outdoor terrace behind the house is currently being renovated and was not accessible. But it was possible to sit outside in front of the house.

I have been a regular guest at this restaurant for several years. Was always very satisfied with the food and the staff. Table reservations were always made in advance by telephone because the total distance was around 80 km. I have reserved a table for 6 p.m. for 2 people for Easter Sunday 2025. As always, I made the reservation by phone in January 2025. When we arrived on Easter Sunday, we were told that there was no table reserved for me and my companions. Furthermore, people questioned whether we had the “Easter card” with us! According to an employee, this “Easter card” should have been purchased in advance. To do this you would have had to go to Menden again. For me an additional 80 KM! The waiter who arrived repeated the information already discussed by his colleague. However, the gentleman “head waiter” assumed that there would be around 10-12 guests a week and claimed that reservations had been made. An impudence. Here you are put to the lie and it is assumed that you are trying to get a table. The waiter actually always came across as friendly, which was definitely not noticeable on Easter Sunday. Given the route, I asked for a solution. The waiter was in no way interested in a friendly solution. He behaved quite negatively. He didn't do anything to placate an angry guest. A real professional when it comes to dealing with customer complaints. Even the outside terrace, which was completely unoccupied, was out of the question for him to offer to us. Despite a clear comment on my part that I had been a regular guest for several years and traveled a corresponding distance, he wasn't interested in the slightest. Extremely disappointed, I made my way back. The restaurant will be deleted from my contact list.

Service and food are very good. The atmosphere in the large hall is not that nice. Very loud. It is more comfortable to sit in the smaller room next door. Prices on the bill do not match the menu. And I think a 0.4l drink for €5.40 is a bit too much of a good thing.

We can absolutely recommend the Dahlhauser Landhaus. It was our first time there and I was really pleasantly surprised! There was a huge selection of schnitzels (over 50 creations) and many other dishes. Great value for money, because both quantity and quality were absolutely right. The schnitzel (a small one is enough here, the medium selection is an XXL schnitzel) was perfect, the salad was fresh, the side dish (fries) was super crispy! Regarding the ambience, from the outside it seems a bit old, but in my opinion the dining room looks very appealing. All the tables were occupied and you could still have a really good conversation, which speaks for the good acoustics. The only point of improvement is in the service, here you can often ask for drinks, but the restaurant was completely full, the service had their hands full, so you can ignore that! We will definitely come back!!!!

Despite a previous negative experience, we gave the Dahlhauser Landhaus a second chance and were there with friends. Bread with various dips and tomato soup were chosen as starters. The bread was fresh and the dips were tasty and spicy. The tomato soup was really good. Since the restaurant is known for its various schnitzel varieties, three different schnitzels were ordered. A classic Jägerschnitzel with fresh mushrooms and a very fine brown sauce, a mushroom cream schnitzel, and a schnitzel with a Bernaisse sauce. Crispy French fries and a bowl of salad were also served. The schnitzels were "medium" size, which was more than sufficient (previously giant schnitzels, which could be ordered, were rightly omitted). All schnitzel variants tasted very tasty. Whatever is left can easily be packed up and taken with you. A risotto with fried salmon was also ordered. The risotto was nice and "schlitzy", the white wine came out pleasantly and was not dominant. TOP!!! For dessert we ordered two pancakes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries. This is also very tasty. Conclusion: We were very satisfied and can recommend this with a clear conscience. The one star we deducted is due to the ambience. The room in which we ate had something of a dining room. We lacked a bit of coziness and we also sat very close to the entrance. It was rather sub-optimal, but the food was great, the staff was friendly, and next time you can request a different table.

Very tasty food! Very friendly service, asking for drinks every now and then would have been nice. I would have expected the ambience to be a little more rustic inside. A small schnitzel with the side dishes was enough for me, the medium schnitzel is really big, but you can take the rest home with you, the staff even specifically asks for it. What was astonishing to me was the difficult parking situation, even though it is not centrally located. But this food is worth the effort to go there!

On Tuesday I reserved a table for 5 people by phone for Saturday. Unfortunately they apparently didn't enter my reservation. Which isn't so bad at first because everyone can make a mistake. But it's stupid when you get sent away because everything is fully booked. Really a shame!

A "medium" schnitzel or cordon bleu is more like an XL or XXL version - so most guests take the leftovers home with them :) Quality and taste also great. You have to go! ... and will definitely come back.

The gluten-free schnitzels are really tasty, I have celiac disease and there are traces of them pointed out, but so far I've never had any problems because the fries and schnitzels are specially prepared. Portions are definitely sufficient and justified for the price. Absolute recommendation.

Very good food but the service can't keep up For the first order we waited half an hour for drinks, for the second and third orders we had to ask after waiting time to find out where the order was. Meanwhile, three service employees stood at the counter and chatted.

Waren heute mit ner großen Gruppe (17 Personen) hier und es war wirklich sehr gut. Essen war super und auch der Service war sehr zuvorkommend. Insgesamt ein wirklich toller Abend.

A cozy restaurant with super delicious food

We had a really lovely evening. Everything was completely satisfactory on 12/21/24. What was particularly pleasant to me was that even though all the tables were occupied, there was no rush at all, the food was ready at a suitable time and the service staff were very nice and not at all rushed. Great team, great restaurant. Any time !!!

Unfortunately disappointing I wanted to buy a voucher, but unfortunately that wasn't possible because only one employee was authorized to do so - and it wasn't available again until 4 p.m. For me that meant an unnecessary journey of 60 km. I had also asked in advance whether it was possible to pay for the voucher by bank transfer and receive it by email, but that was also rejected. It leaves the impression that the voucher either has to be made of gold or that there is simply no interest in sales. Such organization and lack of flexibility is really disappointing.

Leider enttäuschend Ich wollte mir einen Gutschein kaufen, doch das war leider nicht möglich, da nur ein Mitarbeiter dazu befugt war – und dieser war erst ab 16 Uhr wieder verfügbar. Das bedeutete für mich eine unnötige Fahrt von 60 km. Zudem hatte ich im Vorfeld bereits angefragt, ob es möglich sei, den Gutschein per Überweisung zu zahlen und per E-Mail zu erhalten, aber auch das wurde abgelehnt. Es hinterlässt den Eindruck, dass der Gutschein entweder aus Gold sein muss oder schlicht kein Interesse an Umsatz besteht. Eine solche Organisation und mangelnde Flexibilität sind wirklich enttäuschend. Falls du Änderungen wünschst, lass es mich wissen!

Arrived this evening with one more person than booked. The service management assured us that it was not possible to put another chair at the table. I then quickly decided to leave the location so that the others could have a nice Christmas dinner. I completed my apprenticeship in the catering industry 40 years ago. I would never put my guests in such a situation. Sorry, there would have been enough space at this table, the remaining friends told me. And there were plenty of chairs around the edge.

There's actually nothing you can complain about at this place, apart from the fact that the service sometimes took a long time for the drinks, but I attribute that to the fact that it was really full and the boys and girls were under a lot of stress. Otherwise the ambience is very good, modern but cozy. Food...absolutely awesome! First of all, the selection was terrific and what we ordered was simply delicious and I can only recommend everyone to spend an evening here!!! What else should be mentioned are the prices, for the amount you get...UNBEATABLE!!!! But you should definitely reserve a table early because it's not easy to drive there. It's too popular for that! Wir hatten uns sehr kurzfristig entschlossen und noch für den selben Tag reserviert. Der Besucherandrang an diesem Abend war extrem stark. Auf dem Parkplatz, obwohl mehr als groß genug, war kein einziger Platz mehr frei. So beliebt ist dieses Restaurant offensichtlich in der weiteren Umgebung. Trotz dieser Überlast war der Service schnell und extrem freundlich. Die bestellten Schnitzel waren wie gewohnt von hervorragender Qualität und die Portionen extrem groß. Man kann dort auch die Reste mitnehmen und ich weiß daher schon sehr genau, was ich morgen zum Mittag haben werde. :-)

Nothing to complain about. Turned 6 places into 7 in no time. Food and service sensational. A very nice evening. The floor outside definitely needs to be done. The OSB panels are already pretty “through” on the outside. Before someone falls. But that didn't stop things from happening. Jägerschnitzel The HAMMA. And not that it should have a damaging effect on business: "SMALL" is completely enough.... 😀😃. In the end my card was charged twice, which had already been transferred back on Monday. Very tasty, very friendly and food came very quickly

The service is really great because as a vegan I was given good advice and therefore had a vegan schnitzel duo. There are also vegetarian dishes. I thought it was very good except the lemonade was way too sweet for me. It would be even nicer if there were more vegan dishes on the menu soon. I would like to come back again. A little tip: It's better to reserve in advance.

Was really tasty. Schnitzel thick but super tender and the portion is NICE. Don't take the big schnitzel. The “small” makes even the tallest man fed up. The service was also good and we felt comfortable in the restaurant. The parking spaces are a bit rare. It's probably better to come a little bit earlier.

Schnitzels are okay, but nothing special. Portion sizes are super large. The ambience is not that comfortable because you sit relatively close together in a large room and it is rather loud. The service is nice, the management was rather unpleasant. But you always have to stick to the exact number of people, even if only one person eats less, a “fee” of €15 or so is due.

As always, everything is great, there is hardly anything to complain about, we are regular guests there. If you like trying schnitzel variations, this is the right place for you!

There is nothing to complain about the food, the price/performance is right. The food came quite quickly and the taste was good. Unfortunately the prices for the drinks are utopian. However, the service is not necessarily the best. The waitress writes down the orders, but unfortunately they were forgotten several times in one evening. Unfortunately, this seems very disorganized/unprofessional. Unfortunately, the bill could not be divided (between 3 people) on the grounds that that would be difficult and that this would not work with the tax office 😂😂. I've never experienced that you can't split a normal bill between 3 people. (I think this is more of a personal problem, due to fear of arithmetic?, which wouldn't have been a problem with a calculator; if necessary, we would have helped too!) It's a shame, that's why we can only give 3 stars.
