Bad service, owner made a ver unfortunate commentary to our table. Decadent and expensive.

The person who seemed to be the manager was extremely rude and made me and my friends feel very uncomfortable. There are different ways to say the same thing in a polite way. I plan not to come back

They only take PayPal or Cash (no credit cards) Very good especially the spring rolls and the dumplings.

Beautiful place, it is a shame that the staff is so unfriendly. The spring rolls were very good however the noodles & fried rice were stuffy and poor in taste. We could not pay by card. The music was so so. + Their door is too big and we struggle to get in…

Chen Che immediately won me over: fresh, direct flavors, quick and unhurried cuisine, a team that remains attentive without being intrusive. Everything feels harmonious – from the first spoonful to the last sip. A place you'll want to return to.

The traditional ambiance of this restaurant is unique in Berlin. In summer, the garden is a beautiful place to sit, relax, and enjoy a meal. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant.

It's certainly a creative and beautiful restaurant, but I'm confused that you have to pay the bill via PayPal Friends if you don't have cash. Otherwise, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is creative, but the prices are on the higher side.

The Bánh mì was not with freshly baked baguette as advertised, rather it was stale Metro or Lidl baguette, I know what freshly baked baguette tastes like. Furthermore half of the items we tried to order weren't available on a Saturday. Promising. Service was poor as the restaurant was empty and the waiter tried to seat the second visitors directly next to us. How about a little privacy?

This was my second visit. I didn't find the service good the first time either. Unfortunately, that was confirmed again today. And others have mentioned this as a point of criticism as well. It's strange that the restaurant apparently isn't addressing this. My order today was misunderstood. Instead of a main dish for €17.00, I received an appetizer. I was surprised by such a small portion for that price. I spoke to the waiter. He was neither friendly nor solution-oriented. He just said rather curtly, "Yes, there's your order!" The menu stated "with vegetable broth." But there was no vegetable broth. I asked the waiter. He said, "Yes, it's in the dumplings." Huh?? How can there be vegetable broth INSIDE little dumplings?? I was baffled by the whole thing but didn't feel like discussing it with him any further. When the bill arrived, I saw that my meal had only cost €7.00 instead of €17.00. I then realized that the waiter hadn't taken my order correctly. I won't be visiting this otherwise lovely restaurant again because of the poor service. It unfortunately ruined the otherwise enjoyable visit. What a shame.

We used to love going there, but now the staff at reception are very unfriendly; sitting comfortably isn't encouraged. The food arrived very quickly, and we were expected to leave our table just as quickly. We won't be back.

I am in utter shock about my traumatising experience at chen che. I used to come here a few times over the years and while the service was never exceptional it was Berlin-neutral and the atmosphere compensated for it. Hence I decided to invite my community to have dinner together and made a reservation for 11 people in advance, also confirmed via phone beforehand. Before I came in, one of the guests told me he was kicked out and not allowed to sit inside to wait 5 minutes before the reservation time. He seemed jarred. I thought "weird but ok lets go in and ask". We come in and are greeted by an extremely rude man. I said I have a reservation. After complaining that I called to confirm a day in advance, he asked when people are coming because they are busy. I said they should arrive within 5 minutes. The place was completely empty, mind you. Then he asked if we are all going to eat. If every single person will order a main dish. I said we are here for tea as its a tea house and also dessert. Some people may order food, but I can not force them, of course. But everyone will order something. He started telling me that on the website and everywhere they apparently note that you need to order food after 5pm. No one told me this in advance and what a rude way to commucate it to a customer. I said I can't force people to order main dishes and he made it clear we are not welcome at all and he wants us gone. I left with my first guest in shock, fighting back tears, scrambling to find a place on a friday night that would accept a group of 11 people. Thankfully an amazing italian wine bar / restaurant Dal Contadino (1 min away by food) went out of their way, welcomed us with open arms and turned this night around. Never ever ever going to go back to chen che again after hyping this place up and having good summer memories there. Never. This was my wake up call to take the bad reviews seriously. I never write negative reviews, this is my first one.

they kicked out a friend who was early for our reservation! then they force you to order a main dish even if you just want to enjoy a tea (the place was empty when we arrived mind you). When we told them that not everyone is there for food the staff became incredibly rude and condescending. honestly the most disappointing restaurant visit in a long time. I get that the industry is in a tough place but treating your guests so badly when the place is not even full is not the way to go.

The food is decent/good, but quite expensive for Berlin. There are better and more affordable places. The ambiance is very nice. It smells wonderful everywhere, and the dishes look good and are beautifully presented. Unfortunately, like many others here, I have to complain about the service. In hindsight, I'm annoyed that we didn't get up and leave immediately. The greeting was already unfriendly, but the worst part was when I had a question about the menu. The older gentleman (perhaps the owner?) didn't bother to come to us but shouted from a distance, "Look at the menu! It's all in there. Don't ask so many questions, just read!" He repeated this several times when we wanted to ask again and asked him to explain something briefly. He didn't come to us and then sent a colleague to take our order. Even when we paid, there was no thank you or inquiry about whether everything was enjoyable. Quite unfriendly staff.

A visually beautiful Vietnamese restaurant with a big BUT: Unfortunately, the service was really unfriendly. We wanted a table for three. Because the third person wasn't there right away, we were asked rather rudely when they would be there. Everything had to go pretty quickly. After our meal, the bill was simply slapped on the table without being asked. Lingering after eating is not encouraged. Eat quickly and then leave quickly, please. The food is solid, but nothing special. Starters starting at €7.50 are a bit too much for me. Main courses start at around €15.00. And, of course, cash only. We won't be back.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this teahouse because we weren't able to have tea there. We had a reservation for 6:00 PM, and when we tried to place our order, the manager (or owner, I'm not sure) rudely explained that from 5:00 PM onward, only dinner would be served. There's no mention of this policy or a separate menu on either social media or the website. So, we were served a menu of teas—without the option to actually order tea. No one apologized for the inconvenience. Rating: 0 stars.

The place has good food, great atmosphere and very nice service, i am not sure what the complaints are about but we had a nice time here for dinner and they even complimented us with a super delicious dessert.

The food wasn't good. For example, the spring rolls were hard. The mint tea tasted like water. The mango in the dessert was unripe. However, the butterfly tea was delicious. And the food came quickly.

I didn't get to have an experience. After reserving the day before, me and my friends got there at 18h30 for tea drinking at the TEA HOUSE and when we wanted to order they didn't allow us to only have tea and cookies and some small plates saying it was only for dinner after 17h! Why didn't they say anything during reservation? Why would they give us the same menu with tea options? We'll never know. Don't come here for tea if you are a 9 - 5 pm worker cause you won't get it

Charming charming restaurant. Tea plates aren’t served until 3pm. The varietals they had were unique which I loved. Ginger and butterfly tea, shio pepper and bitter melon. I had an appetizer made with glutinous rice and pork and morel steamed in banana leaf, it was very good but banana leaf infusion was lacking. I also had their duck curry special which was a melange of textures from soft coconut rice , and the crunchy bean sprouts and cucumbers, the chili paste was intoxicating and the flavors true to the cuisine. I didn’t know it was cash only, luckily I had just pulled some cash from the ATM earlier. Noted they had a menu of alcoholic drinks and real flowers for their place settings. Service was less than. Some said they hovered in my case they didn’t and also didn’t ask me if I needed a box for my leftovers (I did) the food was whisked away when I went to use the restroom.

The staff didn’t need to show the restroom in such an unfriendly way, which was quite disappointing. The food was too greasy and not tasty, so I don’t think I would order the same thing again. However, the place looks beautiful in photos, so I might come back just for pictures.

A small green oasis in the heart of Berlin near Alexanderplatz. The ambiance in the garden is beautiful. Plenty of greenery, cozy, and a real relaxation spot. The cocktail was refreshing, creatively decorated, and a visual and gustatory highlight. I was particularly impressed by the super-thin, crispy spring rolls with noodles, perfectly seasoned and not greasy. And to finish: the sticky rice with mango 🥭. Simply heavenly, creamy and fruity, and an absolute must. Unfortunately, they only accept cash, which I didn't know until the end :/

The service is pleasant, even with a few nuances. At first, they said they were short on water, but then the waiter came over and refilled it. That's a rare kindness in Berlin. In summer, it's a fairytale: bamboo by the window, goldfish in a barrel, lanterns swaying in the wind—and you feel like you're in another reality. What a shame. We stopped by the restaurant one afternoon and were well received. But tonight, a cold and hasty welcome, with us being placed at the same table as other people without asking our opinion. Then all the dishes were sent out at the same time by waiters who were as expressive as robots. The dishes were good but nothing exceptional (celery everywhere without warning). And finally, the bill had to be paid in cash even though it was only mentioned in tiny print on the 20-page menu...

Very bad experience. Huge disappointment. They only take cash, no warning (in small print on the 20-page menu). They seat you in a military manner, and the food is all sent out at once. No kindness.

I've lived in Berlin for four years and have never been to this restaurant. However, it's very conveniently located in the city center and well hidden, so it has a quiet, pleasantly uncrowded atmosphere. I particularly like the design and the high ceilings. I can recommend the teas and the attentive service, but I think pictures speak louder than words, or videos speak even louder than 1000 pictures.

The food at Chén Ché was incredible and authentic! From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you feel a beautiful and peaceful energy, very homey too! The starters were varied and full of flavor. The presentation of the dishes gave the feeling of being in Vietnam. For the main course, we had the rice bar of the day with different meats and vegetables prepared with super fresh ingredients and different techniques. Very homemade! The drinks: the teas are freshly prepared, they have a lot of variety, and the flavors/combinations are very good! Nothing sweet. Finally, we had a Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, which was equally delicious and intensely flavorful. The service was very good and friendly! The restaurant manager is very cordial and friendly! You can talk to him openly :) Thank you so much for everything!

Very tasty food, great ambience

We received a truly rude welcome this time. Because we hadn't reserved seats, we were only able to sit in the front courtyard. I was forbidden from showing my girlfriend the back garden because there were guests sitting there who shouldn't be observed. What a drama. It's a shame, we had a great time last time. The service was also visibly annoyed when we didn't leave much of a tip. What did you expect? We won't be back. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in Mitte.

I went there for lunch with a friend on a Wednesday. We sat in the back garden, and it really felt like Vietnam :) A really lovely restaurant! The food was delicious too. The waiter gave us a bottle of water and mango sticky rice on the house, which was really nice. We'll be back!

An experience of light and shadow – and lime tea I'd heard about Chen Chè before – a friend wanted to take me there, but it didn't work out on my last visit to Berlin. Now it was very close, and because of the special ambiance, the tea ceremonies, and the many positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. The entrance through the courtyard is beautifully lit, large lanterns hang inside, silk cushions adorn the benches – the atmosphere was like a Far Eastern play in the middle of Berlin. I was looking forward to something light – soul food with freshness. I ordered two dishes: Bún Chá Glò, a warm rice noodle salad with vegetarian spring rolls, fresh coriander, ginger, and lime dressing. And for an appetizer: wonton wrappers – crispy, filled, and full of flavor. This was accompanied by lime tea – wonderfully fresh, very aromatic, not a tea bag, but real leaves and lime zest, which were allowed to unfold in the hot water. What struck me: The main course was significantly heavier than I would have expected from a rice noodle salad. It tasted good, had plenty of texture, lots of umami – but also a lot. Too much for what I actually wanted – and the feeling afterwards was accordingly. What I didn't like: the service. I waited outside for a long time, and when I went inside, I was rather rudely seated at a kids' table, even though almost everything was empty. I waited a long time there, too. And then, in the end: Cash only. No notice, no information, just like that. Luckily, I still had cash with me, but that's outdated – especially not given the prices. What I found interesting: On the way to the restroom, you pass the counter, where there's a small sales area with teas, Asian snacks, and colorful little things – like a hidden concept store in the middle of the restaurant. Conclusion: Beautiful ambiance, solid food, but not what I expected—neither in terms of cuisine nor in terms of atmosphere. I'm glad I tried it, but for me, this will remain a one-time visit.
