Chang Puak in Hilden

Let me start by saying that I like the location and the atmosphere of this restaurant; it all fits together nicely. Inside, there's a lovely little fountain, everything's just right. I arrive and, being the friendly person I am, order a portion of chicken fried noodles to go. The gentleman was very friendly and offered me the option of sitting down, but I stayed standing and wanted to pay right away. He quoted me the price: €17.50 for a regular portion of fried noodles. I was a bit taken aback and politely asked again how much he had quoted, and he repeated €17.50! I smiled at him and honestly told him that those were indeed quite steep prices. He immediately became a bit cheekier and said, "If you don't want it, you can cancel it, no problem, you can leave." He added that it wasn't a fast-food place and that these were normal prices, but he didn't address my point at all, simply repeating that I could cancel. I was a bit taken aback and asked again how much he had quoted, and he repeated that I could cancel it. Honestly: 1. From a customer's perspective, I find this behavior really inappropriate because I was simply surprised and responded in a very relaxed and friendly manner. In this situation, I'd rather go to a snack bar, have a nice chat with the employee or owner, and then take my noodles home with a positive experience. 2. €17.50 for fried noodles with chicken is outrageous. (Unless they're from Dolce & Gabbana or Gucci 😊) 3. Out of respect and courtesy, I bought the noodles anyway, but he kept arguing, and let's just say it was obvious I wasn't his friend. :0) 4. Now for the kicker: I ate the fried noodles with chicken, and they tasted like fried noodles with chicken. The noodles were very thin; I'm only familiar with the slightly thicker ones, but they tasted okay, no better than anywhere else. 2. €17.50 for fried noodles with chicken is outrageous. Why I'm writing this review: Not because of the €17.50, but because his manner really bothered me. Nevertheless, I wish the team continued success and satisfied customers, and above all, enjoyment in their work! …and I'm sure that under different circumstances, I would have had a delicious and pleasant evening there. Therefore, everyone should make their own experience.

Finally, a restaurant without a buffet. Attentive staff/owners. Excellent value for money. Restrooms are only accessible via stairs. Parking nearby.

Chang Puak Restaurant Hilden The dishes were very tasty, especially the Thai soups and noodles, which were fresh and perfectly seasoned. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the restaurant's interior was modern and cozy, and the location was very central and easily accessible. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food.

A real stroke of luck! I walked in quite by chance – I was hungry and short on time because I had to attend an event later. I immediately asked the waitress for a recommendation, and she very kindly recommended something. The food came quickly, and the portion was huge! 😅 I then asked for the leftovers to be wrapped – the packaging was perfect, I could easily fit it in my bag, and there was no smell of food at all. The atmosphere is very pleasant; it's beautiful and cozy inside. Another great restaurant on my personal list of favorites! 💛

Yesterday, I went to Chang Puak with a friend (and on her recommendation). Half of Hilden probably walks past it every time, unaware that this is where you can find truly authentic Thai food outside of Thailand. Absolutely fantastic! The ambiance is a bit conservative (which is why our table neighbors were about 200 years old together, but they obviously knew a thing or two about food). You can go here without hesitation!

For well over 20 years, we've enjoyed coming here with our children and guests. Now, our children also come here with their families to eat. The food is above average. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is pleasant. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Since I'm a fan of Chinese and Thai cuisine, I was very excited to try the food. I even asked if anyone actually cooked Thai food. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the taste and the preparation/portions. It tasted of nothing. It definitely had nothing to do with Thai food. For example, the papaya salad or the red curry...😞

We've been going here for years now, and it's always been delicious! They also offer vegan dishes, for example, with tofu. Highly recommended!

Very good authentic Thai restaurant

A mixed selection of Asian dishes and some Vietnamese. The atmosphere is good; you can sit quietly inside or outside on the street and look around. It's still somewhat secluded by plants. Service is really good. The food is averagely good. You can't go wrong, but it's still nothing memorable. The prices are absolutely reasonable.

The two of us went for lunch. And we were very satisfied. It was delicious, the portions were generous, freshly prepared, and everything served piping hot. The service was friendly and prompt. I would definitely recommend it. Great. Thank you.

It was our first time at Chang Puak in Hilden and we were very positively surprised. As soon as you enter, you almost feel like you are in Thailand - the furnishings are traditional, lovingly designed and radiate a warm, authentic atmosphere. The food absolutely convinced us. We particularly liked the concept that you first choose a basic dish (e.g. curry, fried noodles or rice dishes) and then select the type of meat you want - whether chicken, beef, duck or shrimp - separately. If you want, you can of course also order the dishes vegetarian or vegan. We really liked this flexibility because everyone can find something that suits them. We had a red curry with chicken and a Pad Thai - both freshly prepared, tasty and very nicely presented. The sharpness can also be adjusted individually, which we found to be very pleasant. The service was friendly, attentive and took a lot of time to answer our questions. We felt completely comfortable. Overall it was a very successful evening. Authentic cuisine, warm atmosphere and fair prices – we will definitely come back and can only recommend Chang Puak!

When I visited, the staff wasn't very good, the menu was available after 15 minutes, the drinks after 30 minutes and the food after 60 minutes. The same thing happened to three other tables, but it was also well attended. The food was very good and made up for the waiting time.

We used to enjoy coming here. Unfortunately, the food has deteriorated in our opinion. We had two spring rolls with meat (29g), and you had to hunt for the 3-4 finely chopped pieces of chicken; overall, they had no flavor. The main courses from the daily specials were also disappointing: a) the beef was inedible b) the ratio of vegetables to meat was off. The sauces and spiciness were okay. The service was friendly and attentive.

Disappointing The numerous good reviews prompted us to visit Chang Puak at the moment. As old Hilden residents, we know that there has been a Chinese restaurant at this location for around 50 years. For more than 10 years under the name Chang Puak. Almost nothing has changed about the facility. The babbling fish pond and the goldfish swimming in it, which have apparently been in the pool since it reopened, are reminiscent of old times on Schulstrasse. Unfortunately, the nostalgic impressions of the ambience were not confirmed by the culinary offerings. I'll start with the positive impressions of the restaurant visit: The crab bread, open Chardonnay wine and Schlösser-Alt were good. My favorite soup (Tom-Kha-Gai) was disappointing: coconut milk with red curry paste, lots of fresh mushrooms, almost raw onions and vegetables and very little (hard) chicken were not enjoyable. The crispy pork belly, a specialty, was served flabby in fine strips with a large amount of completely unprocessed herbs and vegetables. The only "bite" of this meat dish came from the toasted panko in the sauce. The decoration on the plate was just as crude - how am I supposed to eat 3cm thick cucumber slices in a restaurant where only forks and spoons are presented? My wife's crispy duck turned out to be dry meat with a doughy-soft breading. Based on this culinary experience, I cannot confirm or even understand the positive reviews. I would like to recommend the Best Friends restaurant in Berlin as a reference for perfect Chinese pork belly - anyone who has tried it knows what excellent Chinese cuisine tastes like. Conclusion: Nostalgia aside, old memories gone: For us, no recommendation for good Asian cuisine.

The restaurant is located near Mittelstraße and therefore close to the city center. If you come by car, the best option is to use the 2 parking garages. Walk about 50m. There are charging stations for electric cars right in front of the restaurant. In the restaurant you can sit both inside and outside. Only a la carte is available here. No buffet. Which is good because it cooks with good quality ingredients. The food here is authentic. There are many dishes in different levels of spiciness. The sauces here are a bit thicker, which I personally think is very good. The food is served beautifully presented and is delicious. I also think it's good that there are also cocktails here that taste good too. The furnishings are cozy. I come here to eat every now and then and have always received friendly service. All experiences so far have been positive Therefore a clear recommendation

If it were possible I would give 0 stars. All the noodles are far dry and you have to order extra sauce and the service is terrible so I don't recommend it

Very good food, you can't complain about it. However, I don't see the prices at all. If you spend €20 for a main course (including meat or fish), there simply has to be more. I see the main courses (including meat or fish) at 12-14€ max compared to other Thai restaurants.

I can't understand the people who didn't give the restaurant 5 stars... We went on Wednesday evening and the restaurant was full. We sat down and were offered the menu, which offered a wide variety of sizes, prices and endless dishes. We chose a Thai coconut soup number 4, the crispy flambéed duck and the rice noodles with dark garlic sauce. The truth is spectacular, you can see that they don't use any additives and that everything is fresh and homemade, it tastes spectacular. Quick and tasty, 100% recommended!

I had a large spring roll and a dish with plum sauce. It was all a bit bland. The plum sauce didn't taste like plum sauce at all, just very sweet.

Die zahlreichen guten Bewertungen haben uns veranlaßt, das Chang Puak aktuell zu besuchen. Als alte Hildener wissen wir, daß sich seit ca. 50 Jahren an diesem Standort ein China-Restaurant befindet. Seit mehr als 10Jahren unter dem Namen Chang Puak. An der Einrichtung hat sich so gut wie nichts geändert. Der plätschernde Fischteich und die darin schwimmenden Goldfische, sie sind offenbar seit der Neueröffnung im Becken, erinnern an alte Zeiten an der Schulstraße. Leider wurden die nostalgischen Eindrücke des Ambientes durch die kulinarischen Angebote nicht bestätigt. Ich beginne mit den positiven Eindrücken des Restaurant-Besuches: Das Krabbenbrot, der offene Chardonnay Wein und das Schlösser-Alt waren gut. Meine Lieblings-Suppe (Tom-Kha-Gai) war enttäuschend: Kokosmilch mit roter Curry-Paste, viele frische Champignons, nahezu rohe Zwiebeln und Gemüse sowie sehr wenig (hartes) Hühnerfleisch waren kein Genuß. Der knusprige Schweinebauch, eine Spezialität, wurde labberig in feinen Streifen mit einer großen Menge an völlig unbearbeiteten Kräutern und Gemüsen serviert. Der einzige "Biß" dieses Fleischgerichtes kam vom gerösteten Panko in der Soße. Genauso grobschlächtig präsentierte sich die Dekoration auf dem Teller-wie soll ich ca. 3cm dicke Gurkenscheiben in einem Restaurant, in dem nur Gabel und Löffel vorgelegt werden, essen? Die knusprige Ente meiner Frau erwies sich als trockenes Fleisch mit einer teigig-weichen Panade. Ich kann aufgrund dieser kulinarischen Erfahrung die positiven Bewertungen nicht bestätigen oder gar nachvollziehen. Ich möchte Ihnen gerne als Referenz für perfekten chinesischen Schweinebauch das Restaurant Best Friends in Berlin empfehlen - wer den probiert hat, weiß wie ausgezeichnete chinesische Küche schmeckt. Fazit: Nostalgie hin, alte Erinnerungen her: Für uns keine Empfehlung für gute Asiatische Küche.

Very friendly staff, pleasant environment and great variety on the menu. The food was excellent made by an amazing cook. As for the prices, very affordable. I recommend it to everyone.

Wir waren heute Mittag hier essen und fanden beide das Essen wirklich nicht lecker. Ich hatte Fisch mit Curry und Gemüse und fand die Sauce echt komisch und nicht lecker. Der Fisch bestand vor allem aus frittierter Panade. Mein Mann hatte Rind mit Gemüse und fand es auch nicht lecker. Wir essen wirklich mehrmals die Woche thailändisch und lieben es, aber hierhin würden wir nicht noch mal zum essen kommen.

Presa la zuppa ai gamberi, latte di cocco e lemongras: ottima. Presa l’anatra e i gamberi in crosta: ottimi. Di livello un po’ inferiore degli straccetti manzo impanati con della frutta secca. Personale molto gentile

Der schön scharfe Salat von grüner Papaya schmeckt wie in Thailand, und der in kleine Stücke geschnittene Schweinebauch ist auch sehr lecker, insbesondere mit den vielen frischen Kräutern. Ebenso das Lab Gai, gehacktes Hühnerfleisch mit geröstetem Reis. Die Gerichte sind in großzügiger Portion und preiswert. Wir waren hier hier zum dritten Mal, und beim nächsten Aufenthalt in Hilden werde ich bestimmt auch wieder hingehen.

Incredibly good! I have often been to Asian, China, Vietnam, Thailand…. I didn't think there was something so special in Hilden! Far from any standard Germanized Thai food, which tastes the same everywhere and has nothing to do with Asian dishes. That was a poem! In a big city the store would probably be constantly fully booked. Huge recommendation!!!!

If you want to enjoy great authentic Asian food in a comfortable and quiet restaurant, this is the right place for you. All dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and spices and served beautifully presented. If you order mint tea or ginger tea, you really get tea with fresh ingredients! There are enough nice seating areas in the restaurant with an Asian atmosphere. The staff is super nice and fulfills all customer requests. There is a lunch menu and also something for the “small” hunger. We were there again today and were thrilled as always!

That’s not the original Thai taste. For Thai people I don’t recommend, no spicy, the taste was okay but not the original one. My bf(German) like the food but for me(Thai) I don’t, I think it’s like Chinese dishes in Thai name. Atmosphere was good, also service. Wait not so long.

War nett und lecker aber der Service war weder interessiert oder freundlich. An sich ein schönes Restaurant nur leider war das Essen trocken. Wir waren netter zum Personal als das Personal zu uns.

Leckeres aber trockenes Essen ABER sehr unaufmerksame, unhöfliche Bedienung. Freundlicher Umgang wäre zu wünschen. Das Ambiente wurde dadurch leider zerstört.

Loempia met eend gegeten en die was wel aardig, maar saus die standaard erbij was, was niet onze smaak. Chilisaus gevraagd en die paste beter. Daarna hoofdgerecht. 1 met vis en die was goed, 1 met ananas was flauw, weinig vlees in alle gerechten en groenten uit blik. We eten veel Thais in Duitsland maar dit was een tegenvaller. We snappen de hoge score niet. Normaal gesproken schrijf ik geen negatieve reviews, maar ik probeer altijd met de medewerkers een dialoog aan te gaan. Nadat ik mijn punten had aangedragen, liep de serveerster weg het handen in de lucht. Dat vond ik niet netjes.

Vermutlich der beste "Asiate" in Hilden. Vegan freundlich, Service ist schnell und gut. Das Ambiente ist halt so, wir man es aus den 90ern und 00ern von "Chinesen" kennt - kann man mögen, muss man aber nicht.

Das Ambiente war sehr schön und der Service war nett aber das essen hätte besser sein können. Dazu gab es zu meinem Gericht keinen Reis (Ente Süß Sauer mit Gemüse) nur extra Reis dazu. Persönliche fand ich das essen ganz gut aber meine Mutter fand es nicht so gut. Also haben wir uns da auf 3/5 sterne gereinigt. Aber man kann definitiv hier Asiatisch essen gehen. :)

Absolut leckere Gerichte. Manchmal braucht die Bedienung etwas länger aber alles in allem sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir waren zu Viert dort essen, aber keines der Gerichte war überzeugend. Zwei der vier Hauptgänge waren nur lauwarm. Die Vorspeisensuppen war geschmacklos und mit kaum Einlage (diese sah wir TK Ware aus). Die Hauptgerichte waren ebenfalls ziemlich eintönig, geschmacklos und trotz Angabe nicht scharf. Der Tofu war der schlechteste den ich je in einem Restaurant gegessen habe. Alles in allen war das kein gutes oder auch nur annähernd authentisch schmeckendes Essen. In Köln und Umgebung gibt es Restaurants wo man für den halben Preis viel besseres Essen bekommt. Der Service war freundlich aber recht langsam, wir mussten mehrfach nachfragen bis jemand zum Bezahlen kam. Die Teller der Nachspiesen standen beim verlassen des Lokals immernoch auf dem Tisch. Wie kommen leider nicht wieder.

Nach meinem Thailand Urlaub habe ich schon länger nach einem Restaurant gesucht, dass der Thai Küche am nähsten kommt. Ich weiß das in Thailand ganz anders gekocht wird und auch mit ganz anderen Gewürzen. Jedoch habe ich endlich ein Restaurant gefunden, dass meine Erwartungen erfüllt hat. Das Personal ist sehr nett und das Essen ist sehr lecker. Außerdem gibt es verschiedene Schärfegrade für die man sich entscheiden kann und das Essen ist am Ende wirklich scharf! In den meisten Restaurants spürt man die Schärfe nicht wenn man ,,scharf,, bestellt! Außerdem finde ich es top, dass man nach dem Restaursnt besuch noch etwas anderes unternehmen kann, da man nicht nach Öl oder verbrannten fette stinkt! Immer wieder gern!
